自分は野球にはあまり関心がなく
この主人公に当たる
横田慎太郎選手に関しても
映画の予告を見て知りました。
一人の野球少年が
高校野球を経て、
プロ野球選手になり、
何事もなければ、
現在でも活躍しているはずだった。
これほどまでに愛されて、
本になり映画になるなんて、
野球選手としてだけでなく、
人としても魅力的だったんだろうと。
ファンに見せられるはずだった
ポテンシャルが途方もなく大きいと
周りが感じていたのは、
映画からも伝わった。
家族の苦しみは十分に表現されていて
客席からは啜り泣きが多く聴かれた。
個人的に一番心が揺さぶられたのは
主人公の想い人、
伊原六花さんが演じる小笠原千沙が
横田慎太郎が亡くなった後、
海に向かって
「横田ー！カッコよかったぞー！」
と叫ぶシーンでした。
この部分は、おそらくこの映画の中で
唯一フィクションだと思われますが
逆に伊原六花さんが血を通わせたと
感じました。
実際に横田慎太郎さんが亡くなられた年
阪神は18年ぶりのリーグ優勝。
彼のユニフォームは胴上げされました。
ドラマのような真実がある事を
彼の人生が教えてくれました。
I’m not particularly interested in baseball,
and I only learned about the player at the center of this story, Shintaro Yokota, after seeing the film’s trailer.
A young boy who loved baseball
went through high school baseball,
became a professional player,
and—had nothing gone wrong—
should still be playing today.
That someone could be loved so deeply,
to the point that books are written and a film is made about him,
suggests that he was not only a remarkable baseball player
but also a genuinely admirable human being.
The film conveys how enormous his potential was—
potential that fans should have been able to witness—
and how strongly those around him believed in it.
The suffering of his family is portrayed with great care,
and throughout the theater, quiet sobbing could be heard.
What moved me the most personally was the scene in which
Chisa Ogasawara, played by Rikka Ihara,
after Shintaro Yokota’s death,
shouts out toward the sea:
“Yokota! You were amazing!”
This moment is likely the only fictional scene in the entire film,
but precisely because of that,
it felt as though Rikka Ihara infused it with real, living emotion.
In the year Shintaro Yokota actually passed away,
the Hanshin Tigers won the league title for the first time in 18 years.
His uniform was lifted into the air during the victory celebration.
That there are truths more dramatic than any drama—
his life itself taught us that.
