日本ハムは２日、ヤクルトを戦力外通告となっていた西川遥輝外野手との入団合意に達したと発表した。
２０１１年から２１年まで在籍した古巣への復帰に、西川は球団を通じ、「スワローズから戦力外と伝えられた時、最後に野球をやるとしたらファイターズしかない、と頭に浮かびました。ファイターズでプレーできなかったら、野球をやめる…ぐらいの気持ちでした。もう一度、ファイターズのユニホームを着て野球ができることをうれしく思います。若い選手が増え、ファンの皆さんは若い選手の名前を知っている方が多いのかなと思います。そういったファンの方には名前を覚えてもらい、僕が在籍したころからのファンの方には思い出してもらえるように頑張ります」とコメントした。
