teacher talking sports what it does with do how we living coming off a 2022 23 season where the New Jersey Devils scored 112 points in the regular season made it to the second round. They were expected to be an ascending young team that could be a cup contender in uh future years. Uh the ensuing two years haven’t necessarily gone as well as hoped. The following year they did not make the playoffs and the goalending was really a mess. Uh before last season they acquired Jacob Marstrom to try to alleviate that problem. Uh but unfortunately um Jack Hughes got hurt and missed the playoffs. They lost in the first round. Uh so expectations were you know maybe a playoff team uh this year but not much else. They lost the season opener to the Carolina Hurricanes. They haven’t lost since. So, yes, a 6-3 loss to the Hurricanes opening night. Uh, and since then, you see have reeled together eight straight wins. Will be going for a ninth in a row tonight at Colorado, a team they just beat on Sunday. Uh, a home game. This one will be on the road. Uh Avalanche have actually lost four in a row, although three of them have been in overtime. And uh that eighth win in a row for the Devils was actually their first in overtime. Uh so seven straight regulation wins in a row. Um you see really uh great goalending and that has been with Jacob Marstrom out with injury, a lower body injury. uh was the goalie in the first win and the second, but he only played a period uh before he was taken out. It’s really been the Jake Allen show since uh Jake Allen has been uh incredible uh this year for the Devils uh especially with Markstrom out. But as we see here, CBS Sports, uh Markstrom is scheduled to tend the road twine Tuesday against the Avalanche. Amanda Stein the Devils official site uh reports turns of the lineup Sunday uh as the backup to Jake Allen. Uh 35-year-old Markstrom will get the nod in Tuesday’s rematch. It’ll be his first appearance since he suffered a lower body injury October 13th in Columbus. And yeah, the ensuing little over two weeks. Devils still haven’t lost since he got injured. Jake Allen also 35 years old. So, a bit uh on the older side of a goalie tandem, but uh they’ve performed really well. Uh well, especially Jake Allen. Um see, eight straight wins. Uh only five times in franchise history has the team had a longer winning streak. Um so, if they win tonight, uh it’ll be tied for the fourth longest. Nine wins in a row. uh when we see uh there they are in 10th but really tied for sixth. Um and the longest winning streak came uh during that affforementioned 2022 23 season and back in 20201 when they won 13 in a row. I mean that’s going to be tough again. They’ve won eight in a row. They’d have to win five more in a row at Colorado at San Jose, at Los Angeles, at Anaheim. a four game uh West Coast trip and then verse Montreal would be the game to tie it verse Pittsburgh the game to surpass her. But of course, you know, it’s a long way off and uh easily can have a trip up within those in uh in that part of the schedule, especially on a road trip. But yes, the New Jersey Devils, a team that was expected to do some things the past two years and really hasn’t, are getting it together. uh you know, we’ll see if they’ll be able to keep it up. But yes, if Markstrom can stay healthy, him and Jake Allen uh could be one of the best goalie tandemss this year.
