Quality Start for Mets Prospect Brandon Sproat in MLB Debut #mlb #baseball

Brandon Sprro is the third of the Mets big three pitching prospects to make his debut in about the past month. First Nolan Mlan, then Jonah Tong, and now of course Brandon Sprro. Sprout was probably the biggest name of the three going into 2025, but a rough start at Triple A to start the year has dropped him down the pecking order a little bit, but don’t get me wrong, he’s still a very highly rated pitching prospect. He’s got a power fastball that can reach 100 mph and he loves to live around the strike zone. His fast ball, however, is pretty straight. doesn’t have a lot of movement and with it being around the strike zone so much, it can give up hard contact. This may have contributed to his struggles in the early part of this season at AAA, but he really seemed to have found success in the later part of the season. Being a ground ball pitcher, a power sinker, and a change up that scouts say is his best pitch results in more than 50% of his at bats ending with a ground ball, but he can still get that strike out when he needs it. Three distinct breaking ball shapes, a slider, sweeper, and curveball add some versatility and swing and miss stuff to his pitch mix that was on full display here as he strikes out the side in the third inning. Sprout was rolling right through his first major league start, but in the sixth inning, he did get a little bit roughed up, but Sprrot showed some resiliency getting back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning and stop the bleeding. That would be the end of his day. unfortunately was handed the loss, but a very solid six innings, three hits, three runs, and seven strikeouts.
