Tigers vs. Mariners ALDS Game 5 Highlights (10/10/25) | MLB Highlights

It is winner take all in game five between the American League West champion Seattle Mariners and the Detroit Tigers out of the American League Central as a wild card. How about this for a story who went to Seattle University one year ago against the Cleveland Guardians on the road in game five. Couldn’t get the job done. Not only is this a chance for redemption, but a chance to do it in a city that means a whole lot to him. It does. And he’s had a very tough year this year against the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners have had his number. They’ve scored some runs. They’ve won a few games, three games. Right now, they have He hasn’t won one game. But I’ll tell you right now, against the other teams in this great game of baseball, 14-4, this guy is an absolute wizard. He’s a one of one. He’s an absolute ace. And I’m telling you right now, he’s going to be fired up for this game today. And George Kirby, who started game one for the Seattle Mariner team, Furious George, as he’s known. We saw the uptick in velocity. He struck out eight, did give up the home run to Carrie Carpenter. Carpenter will be the first man to face Kirby. Carrie Carpenter, five career home runs in 12 at bats against George. Kirby leads off a stress point right away. Carpenter laces one to short. Knocked down by Crawford. He will have no play. And Carpenter is aboard with a hard hit leadoff single. Yeah, just slicing away from him. But that wasn’t just on the ground. That was about chest high. Just kind of clanked right off that uh that glove. But Gary Carpenter smoked a knuckle curveball. So one on for Detroit. That’ll bring up Glaver Torres two. Oh man, Alan Porter waited and waited and then stood up and rung up Torres. If Alan Porter is giving that to George Kirby, then he can ride that high fast off of it. Green rolls one over to second, picked up by Ponco for Crawford and he will have no relay throw with the slide from Carpenter. They get the lead runner for the second out of the inning for Green who had a big home run to put Detroit on top in game four at first on a fieldielder’s choice. And there’s two away for Spencer Tolson. One two pitch swing and a miss. Strike three. Got him. And Rick RZ is going off right now. That’s going to retire the side. A couple of strikeouts for George Kirby. Rosena Raleigh and Rodriguez to face the 28-year-old from Hayward, California. The Seattle University product. Yeah. And all he’s done this postseason is pitch 14 and two/3 innings allowing just eight hits, three runs while striking out 23. Little tapper school gloves, spins, throws, and it’s dug out by Torlson for out number one. Nice play by TKO as he retires a Rose Arena now will face Cal Raleigh, the 60 home run switch hitting star. They’ll pitch again. Raleigh loops in the left for base hit. AJ, his eighth hit of this series sets it up for Julio Rodriguez with a man on. Rodriguez, who signed with Seattle at age 16, waves and misses on that nasty change up. So Scooble busted out to get Rodriguez in the second out of the first inning. And that’ll bring up Jorge Palanco. Palco teed off twice against Scooble in that second game of the series. The one two swing and a miss. Got him. Change up down and away. Took Pelano down to a knee. Back-to-back strikeout swinging on the change up. We go to the second inning. scoreless in Seattle. Third baseman a Yuenio Suarez will lead things off and then it’s harder to catch up on the outside when it’s floating down and away. Three straight strikeouts for Scooball. All on the change up. Here’s Josh Naylor. Great addition to the ball club prior to the trade deadline. 20 home runs for the end. 30 steals. He loops one down the left field line towards the corner. It’s going to drop. Josh Naylor with an extra base hit protects the plate and he’s in scoring position for Seattle in the second. This is all he’s trying to do is put the ball in play. This ball is well off the plane away. This ball is probably 6 to8 in off the plate, but he just gets the bat on it. Emergency swing, takes what he gives him and he places on the left field line for a double. He lets school provide the power and here’s Mitch Garber likes to bounce around out there. There he goes. There he goes. Huge lead. He’s going to third. Pitch on the way in the dirt to throw to third. Not in time. He’s bouncing around like a yo-yo. Then he takes off. He was about halfway down the line when Scooble came to the plate with a pitch. Dingler had no chance. He’s amazing. He’s absolutely a magician on the bases. He’s out there bouncing around that disappears. He steals third. He’s safe at third base. How does he do it? Josh Naylor is on at third. That will change up the defense. Now the infield comes up close for play at the plate. Here we go. Two-2 pitch. Garber serves out right center field. Long run for Meadows. He’ll get there, but this will score. Naylor from Fer and the Mariners strike first in this game five. Josh Naylor, you are amazing. And what an at bat by Mitch Garver. There’s hardly anybody who would even think to steal third base right there. And for Naylor, you knew he was thinking about it the second he got onto second base. And what a huge plate appearance that was for Garver. Here’s Victor Robless. Scubble gets another strike out on the change up, but he’s sitting at 36 pitches right now. Naylor’s been involved these last two games. It’s one- nothing. Now, George Kirby, he’s got two strikeouts, the other five outs, all on pretty routine ground balls. There’s Bayz on and miss. Got him. A wicked slider out of the zone. Bayz cuts through strikeout number three for George Kirby. Sensational start the first time through the order for George. Just one hit, one base runner allowed. The base is empty with two outs facing the Nemesis Carpenter. Line drive into right field. A base hit. He takes a slider into right field and he’s two for two. Carpenter continues to hit well against Kirby and he extends the inning to Glaver Torres. Another win though for George Kirby. Kept him in the park. That’s right. Carpenter goes payoff pitch. He got it. 97 crackles over the edge. Torres swings through. George Kirby has gone three scoreless against the Tigers. We go to the bottom of the third. It’s going to be JP Crawford. Then the top of the order. Randy and Cal. Another two- two waved on and miss. Got him with the fast ball that time. First trip through the order. Five strikeouts. Four on change ups. One on that 100 mph fast ball to Crawford. All swinging. One- nothing Mariners. Top of the order. Here’s Arosena. One, two on Rosena. Out in front of a change up and a juggle the helmet as he goes down swinging. The two up and two down for Cal Raleigh. The type of matchup you hope you see at the ballpark. Swing and a miss. Got him with 101. Trick Scoo is dealing here in Seattle. Seven strikeouts through 11 batters. All swinging. Lefty hitter and Cole Keith. There are five of them in the Tigers lineup once again tonight. Mariners lead one- nothing. Top of the fourth. Two outs, nobody on. Oh, that went inside and got a piece of Cole Keith. Lost a curveball that time to Kirby. And he puts a base runner aboard with two outs in the fourth. The Tigers got to figure out a way to score some runs. I mean, you can talk about school ball. They haven’t scored a run in the first four innings the entire series. All 18 runs have come in the fifth or later in this set. Is there any way you put this guy in motion right here? AJ trying to get him the two outs to second base. No, Keith Keith can’t run. Keith can’t run like that. No, absolutely not. There he goes. He takes off. Raleigh’s throw down to second 10. Not there. He’s safe. He tried two stolen bases all season. He was one for two. And in the biggest game of the year, Cole Keith after getting smacked in the foot tries to steal second base. We have a review though. Seattle is challenging the state call at second base. I mean, that is about as perfect of a throw right to the glove of JP Crawford. And this is going to be an interesting call. This is why Cal Raleigh wins Platinum Gloves cuz he can make throws like this. That’s about as bang bang as you can get. He’s out, though. His foot hasn’t hit the base. And the throw, the tag, the throw leads the tag right into the runner. Alan Porter with the call. They were chanting MVP for Cal Raleigh, not only for his offense, but for his exceptional defense. Deal leads things off for the Mariners. They hold a slim one- nothing lead going to the bottom of the fourth inning. Scoo has struck out seven yet to walk a batter. Payoff pitch to Rodriguez who’s out in front of a change up. Eight strikeouts for Tercoal. My goodness. And this is what you mean by just pitching too. Here’s Palanco and he gets Palanco on the change up down and away. He’s punching out everybody. He’s punching everybody’s ticket. That’s 1 2 3 4 5 six in a row. But it’s just taking him a while. It’s not one two three. It’s six seven eight pitches. But he is punching out the world right now. Yeah. Six pitches for Julio. Seven for Palanco. Here’s Gino. He goes with a fast ball up and in and he strikes out the side for the second consecutive inning. 10 strikeouts through four for Scooble. McKinley is an easy out number one. Brings up Dylan Dingler grounded out to short his first time up. Now if Kirby can finish the job here, he would have given you everything you had hoped for. And more two outs, nobody aboard. Lefty bat Meadows on a onew and a miss. Kirby has given you every single thing you needed tonight. He has flat out shoved against the Tigers. TK Scubble on an incredible pace so far. He has struck out 10 including seven straight Mariners. Naylor out towards left center perfectly positioned as he often is as Parker Meadows. That ends the streak of seven straight strikeouts for TKO. That is a new Major League Baseball playoff record. Here is Garver. Garver goes down swinging on a change up. 11 strikeouts for Scooville today. Here is Victor Robles. Two outs, nobody on. Payoff pitch. Robless lifts one out towards Shallow right in and to his left is Carpenter towards the line. And another one, two, three inning. Tossed by TK Scooble who is keeping the Tigers in it. Six strikeouts for Kirby. One more batter to go. And here is Bayas. He struck out in the third inning. Big spot right here. Batting ninth in the order with the top the order. Carpenter on deck. Jav Bayz first pitch swinging and a base hit towards left center field. Over to cut it off is Rodriguez. Bayz is looking for two. Play at second. He set. Jav Bayz. What great base running. Julio Rodriguez had to run to the left center field gap and Jav Bayz never broke stride. The throw was offline. The lunge from Palano and Bayz got around the tag. And that’s going to bring Dan Wilson out to ask Gabe Spire to get the next out. That is it for George Kirby. He’ll get a thunderous ovation. So Bayz has put Detroit in position to tie the game. And Dan Wilson is not going to let Kirby face Carpenter. Instead, it’s going to be the lefty Spire. George Kirby still hasn’t allowed a run in an elimination game the last two times, but is responsible for Bayz at second. And this is why AJ Hinch put Carrie Carpenter at the top of the order for this moment to face Gabe Spire and still have an opportunity later. And Hinch loves to pitch it, but not here because now Spire is off the board. And later on in the game, these will be at bats against right-handed pitching. 10 fly ball right field deep. Is it playable? Rodriguez going back. He’s looking up and it’s gone. A home run. All about it. Carrie Carpenter delivers. Two home run. Tigers take the lead here in the sixth. Incredible. Have a night. Carrie Carpenter. You can only hit George Kirby, right? You got one lefty in the bullpen. They make the move. Gets that 104 seam fast and just hammers it. Wow. Scooble at 85 pitches. And it looks like the Tigers do have their bullpen going. Here’s JP. Drops the hands, brings them up, swings the leg. The O2 swinging a miss. 100 down and away. This is special. Two away. 13 in a row. Knocked down by Scooble. This is it. You’re Sai Young. You’re going up against MVP. Let’s go. Show them what you got. Raleigh goes down swinging on a fast ball down the middle and TKO. Pure nitro to take down Raleigh and finish off the sixth. One of the best hitters in the game against one of the best pitchers in the game. And Scooble on top on that one. Kyle Finnegan has come on for TK Scoo. And it’s Julio Rodriguez to lead things off for Seattle. Rodriguez out to center field. Meadows ranging back and he is there at the track in this pitcher friendly park for the out. Palanco batting. Payoff pitch to Palanco and he takes ball four. The time run is aboard for Seattle. And here comes Gino Suarez in the air. Right field pushing Carpenter back to the track and he’s got it. You saw the big sigh of relief from Finnegan. Two down. Here’s Josh Naylor. They’ll keep Finnegan through the right side. Base hit will stop at second base as Carpenter comes up throwing in. And a tying run is in scoring position as Naylor has his second hit of the night. And the Mariners have life against the Detroit Bullpen here in the seventh. And now the chess match begins. AJ Hench coming out for Finnegan. So the Mariners looking for a clutch pace hit. And now more chess match action. Tyler Holton comes in because the lefty Dominic Canzone was announced as the pinch hitter. But then Seattle counters with Leo Reevas, the switch hitter who made his playoff debut in game two. But this will be the first at bat of his playoff career. And he lands with an off base hit. Here comes Leo Rebos off the bench ties the game. This place has lost its mind. Two to the score. Leo Revas is a hero. Happy birthday Rivas. As a pitch shooter, you got to be aggressive in the count. Took a strike. Found one that he liked. ripped it down the left field line. Leo coming through and everybody on their feet. And now the go-ahehead run is Naylor at second base. How about this for postseason magic? Here’s Robless. First pitch swinging Robless bouncer to short, picked up by Bayz. He’ll get the out at second to finish the inning. Andre Munoz takes over right here against Carrie Carpenters. And right now it’s up to Munoz to get him here in the eighth. Hang a zero on the board and get the offense back up in a 22 ball game. He goes back to the slider and Carpenter takes it for ball four. So the go-ahehead run is on base and here is Glaver Torres. 3-1 pitch and he walks Torres to put the go-ahead run in scoring position and it will be Riley Green to come to the plate for Detroit with two outs in the eighth inning. Green pops it up back of third. Suarez out. He’s got it and the inning is over. Still 22 two as Munoz gets out of it. Will Vest pitched two innings in game one into the 11th. Got the win. Closed game four and he goes to work. Said the Mariners have one out here in the bottom of the eighth inning. Here’s Randy Rose Arena. And he got a piece of him. It would have been four anyway. The go-ahead run is on base and the moment that they have been waiting all year for. Cal Raleigh to the plate with a chance for the lead in the playoffs. Raleigh out in front again of that slider. Goes down swinging and Vest takes care of Raleigh. Two down and here’s Julio Rodriguez goes down swinging on a slider. Vest comes up huge for Detroit and sends game five to the ninth. Tied at two. Andre Munoz facing the middle of the Detroit order and Spencer Tolson who has been Detroit’s best late game hitter over the last two months. He got him with a set. One down here tonight. So, two up and two down and everybody on their feet again. And that will bring up Zack McKenry. He’s strong. That’s going to retire the side. One, two, three go the Tigers. We go to the bottom of the ninth looking for some magic. Two up and two down here in the ninth. That will bring up Josh Naylor. The two-1. Naylor ropes one in right field. The base hit. Josh Naylor with a winning run is on at first base. his third base hit tonight. The Mariners have only five hits. And Naylor has three of them. Holy smokes. And here comes Leo Rias who takes over as the DH after pitch hitting for Canon who was going to pitch for Garbert. Called strike three. Will Vest freezes Revas. And we’re going to extra innings in game five of the division series. So here is melted on a relief. Victor Robless will lead off the bottom of the 10th inning. All tied at 2-2. First pitch swinging assist down the left field Robas into the corner. Victor Robless has the winning running scoring position for Seattle. This place is going to go crazy with a base hit right here from JP Crawford. Mariners looking for a date with destiny to win game five and move on to the American League Championship Series. JP Crawford breaks his bat, flares it to second, and it’s going to be caught by Torres for the first out. Robles on the bag at second. And now back to the top of the Seattle order. Got him on the splitter that time. And there are two down. And what do you know? Cal Raleigh’s coming up. Are they going to intentionally walk him? You have to, right? No way. They will intentionally walk Cal Raleigh. And that will bring up Julio Rodriguez. Rodriguez chops one towards short charging. Bayz. He’s got it. Throw to first is in time. And the rookie Melton comes out and forces this game to the 11th inning in game five. We go to the 11th. Two to the score. Mariners and Tigers. Winner take all. Game five. Logan Gilbert still up on the hill for the Mariners. And now he’s got to deal with the top of the order. Carrie Carpenter going to lead things off. He’s been a problem. That’s off the mound and into right field. A base hit. Carpenter, the go-ahead runner, is on base. Claver Torres at the plate. Carpenter edges off. Claver Torres takes one and that gets away from Raleigh. Onto second base and into scoring position goes Carrie Carpenter. It is a pass ball for the first time all year against Cal Raleigh. Wow. And that was the split by Gilbert that he’s we’ve talked about how great he’s been on it. That’s like a knuckle ball. You never know where it’s going to go. And the fact you see crazy things in the playoffs. Torres lifts it out towards right. Rollless is over. He’s got it. Carpenter will not move from second. There’s the first out of the 11th inning. That brings up Riley Green. Riley Green will be intentionally walked so that Gilbert can face Spencer Torlson instead of the lefty Riley Green. Two on, one out. The two- two pitch to Torlson. He’s g in the air to left. Arena coming in. Two down. One more to get to keep Detroit off the board. Here’s Colt Ge. Let’s see what happens on a one-two pitch. Got him with a strike out on the split. Logan Gilbert lets out a yell. The Seattle crowd in full voice. They explode as Logan Gilbert hangs at zero in the 11th inning. Well, here we go to the bottom of inning number 11. And again, we’ll say it again and again. Any Okconor run will win it. Mariners and the Tigers all tied at 22. Kater Montero on in relief leading things off. Jorge Palanco. Palanco sends one out towards right center. Meadows is over. He calls off the right fielder Carpenter for out number one. And now the Mariners have two down here in the bottom of the 11th inning. And that’ll bring up Josh Naylor. He’s had a heck of a game tonight. He does. Grounds it to Bayas down to a knee. And Montero comes on and retires the side. How about a dozen in game five to the 12th we go. And Logan Gilbert is back out for his third inning of relief. He faces third baseman Zack McKinsky. Left-handed back tapper to the right side. Gilbert’s got a long run now. He’s going to go to the bag. Naylor tried to deflect the ball to the running pitcher. And it ends up being an infield single for Zack McKinstry. And the go-ahead run is on base in the 12 for Detroit. Naylor tried to pull the TKO and do the football snap between his leg. Long snapping behind him. This is a pitcher you can run on. Zack McKinstry, the Tigers best base stealer. Dingler at the plate on the ground left side and through. A base hit puts McKinstry in scoring position. Dingler comes up with a knock and still nobody out here in the 12th for Detroit. All right, that’s going to be it for Gilbert. He goes two plus innings on two days rest and Bazardo is coming on with the season on the line in the 12th inning. Inheriting two runners with nobody out. Meadow shows it, pushes it. It is grabbed by Bazardo. The second baseman is covering and Palano holds on for the first down, but it’s a successful sacrifice for Parker Meadows, putting McKinstry and Dingler both in scoring position. The Tigers have runners at second and third. One out for Jav Bayz. Bayz breaks his bat, hit to third, throw home by Suarez. T is gives it pride. Two down. Two outs and a run erased off the board. We’re still tied at two. Plenty of time for Gino. One hopper right at him. Plenty of time to get the ball to Cal at home plays. The old contact play doesn’t usually work as the runner at thirdry is out by a good 40 ft. How about the barrel to the bat all the way out toward the shortstop. JP Crawford at a huge second out. Terry Carpenter has had an at bat every inning in this game. Doesn’t it feel like it? He’s in the lineup twice, I think, tonight. They’ve got first and third, two outs, and that’s exactly what they’re going to do. Take the bat away from him. Baker Chances with Torres. Then you got the righty on righty situation. The way the carpet has been swinging the bat, don’t let him swing the bat. Intentional walk loads the bases. Glaver Torres steps to the plate. The one two swinging a fly ball right field. Ro has a beat on it. Comes in a few strides and he makes the catch for out number three. Edward Bazardo rises out of the flames in the 12th inning and he leaves them loaded. Leo Rivas with a leadoff walk here in the bottom of the 12th inning. Now it’s Robas toss the first. That ball gets away. Reboss is headed to second base. And the winning run is in scoring position for Seattle. And now here’s Robless. Turns the bunt and he gets hit by the pitch. Buts it out in front of the plate, but he’s hit by the pitch. Dingler, the catcher, gets to it, puts the tag on Leo, but that pitch got him on the hand as he was trying to lay down a bunt. It was called a hit by the challenge. And AJ Hinch is busting out the challenge here. Let’s see. That hits the bat first. It’s about as bang bang as it gets. When you zoom in, watch. He moves his hand. It clearly hits the bat and goes down. It looks like the angle changed. Is that what you’re seeing, AJ? It looks like it hit the bat and went down and hit his hand. I agree. Alan Porter, our crew chief and home plate umpire with the call. After review, the cornfield stands. It has been hit by P. So, the evidence apparently not conclusive to overturn the call on the field which was hit by pitch for Robas. The Mariners have runners on it first and second with nobody out and a chance to win this game five and send the Mariners to Toronto. Here’s JP Crawford. Let’s see if he lays down the bunt in the air. Left center over is Green a step. He’s got it. Back to second goes Revos and there’s one down. I would have kept the bun on. I’m sorry. I still would have kept the bun on. And here’s Randy A. Rosarena with a chance to win this ball game. The Mariners have had so many chances to take the lead and win this game. Rosarena back to Monttero. Throwing a second to Torres. Inning over. What a job by Kar Monttero. Pumps his chest. Looks at the dugout. Dugout erupts. We’re headed to the 13th. And here’s Riley Green against Bazardo. Green on a slider. balls down swinging. Two nasty fast balls on the inner half and then just dove down the shoe tops. Strike free. He got him there because he threw a couple of sliders way off the plate out there and you saw Torqulson tracking it, stepping towards the plate every time. He strikes out the side. So backto back walks given up by Jack Flity. And here comes Jorge Palco with a chance to win it with a base hit. Payoff pitch to Palanco. Waved on and missed on a curve. I love I love that pitch. And you see how far out front Palanco is. What a pitch. Who’s going to win this game? And here comes Gino. Now you’re looking for a double play. 3-2 pitch on the ground. Too short. Bayz to second for one. Wheeling a first is in time. Another double play. More clutch defense in the extra innings. Punch after punch. Blow after blow traded by Detroit and Seattle. There is out number one. There’s Dingler down the left field line. That is a fair ball. Dingler on his way around first. He’s going to have extra bases and the Tigers have the go-ahad run in scoring position in the 14th. So just like every other inning. Yes. Brings up Parker Meadows. One for 16 in the series. 0 for four today. Successful sacrifice. Tanks going strike three. And this kid has been brilliant. Here comes Danny out of the dugout. Bayz do up next. And we are about to see a third Mariner starting pitcher tonight. Luis Castillo. The Rock is coming on here with two outs in the top of the 14th inning with the go-ahad run at second base. This game has had it all. Luis Castillo will make his first relief appearance as a Major League Baseball pitcher and he’ll face Javier Bayz pops it up. Naylor over. He’s got it to the bottom of the 14th we go. Two down here in the 14th inning. Three 0 to Robas and it’s ball four. The two out walk to Robas will bring up JP Crawford with the winning run at first. Flity is one two. Robless goes pitches outside. Throw down to second. He’s out. Caught stealing for the second time in this series. Dingler cuts down Robless to send this game to the 15th. I mean, perfect throw. We saw Raleigh earlier. We see Dingler here. Two of the best defensive catchers with strikes at second. Luis Castillo, he finished off the 14th inning and he faces the top of the order in the 15th. Swing and a miss on the fast ball. Chopper to the left side. Third baseman Suarez has it. Softs the first for the second out of the 15. Here’s the pitch to Green. Swung on. Lifted left field. Foul territory. A Rosarena over. Will he have room? He does. And he makes the catch in foul territory. Luis Castile. A one, two, three. 15th inning. Tommy Canley will be the new pitcher for the Detroit Tigers. JP Crawford looking to lead things off here in the bottom of the 15th inning. into right field. The base hit and the go ahead run is a board to lead off the 15th for Seattle. Winning run out at first base. Here’s Randy Rosena and it’s inside and that hits Randy Canley hoping that maybe a change up can induce a ground ball here from Palano to try to send this to the 16th inning. Palano with one swing could end the series. complete and will send Seattle to the American League Championship Series for the first time in 24 years. [Applause] They will remember this night and this game and that swing in the Pacific Northwest forever. Somebody finally came through to be the hero. Jorge Palano. What a game. One of the greatest playoff games we may ever see ends in the 15th inning with the longest 10yd Mariner JP Crawford scoring the winning run. A 32 15 inning. Epic. It’s unbelievable to see. I feel so excited for these Mariner fans. It was amazing. What a night. What a game. What a series.
