Lotte manager Saburo’s inauguration press conference was held at Zozo Marine Stadium on the 8th.

Manager Saburo greeted the crowd by saying, “We are by far last this year, so I think it will be difficult to build a team, but we will eliminate any complacency and practice rigorously, and since we have many young players next season, I would like to make this a team that can soar. I look forward to working with you.”

Manager Saburo hinted at tough training, saying, “This year’s results were a bit disappointing, so I want the players to use that disappointment as motivation to endure tough training and become a mentally and physically strong team and players.”

When asked what is necessary to win the championship, he said, “Everything. I think we are inferior to the other five teams in all aspects, including battery issues, offensive issues, base running running, and defense, so I would like to start from scratch and train in those areas.”

He sent a message to The Marines fans saying, “I think I made a promise to all of you fans at my retirement game, but I would like to continue to grow and work hard towards my dream, so I would appreciate your continued support for us to become the best in Japan.”

Manager Saburo played for the Lotte Marines and The Giants before retiring in 2016. He served as farm director and scouting advisor for Rakuten in 2020, and returned to the Lotte Marines as manager of their second team in 2023. He was transferred to first team head coach midway through this season, and was appointed as the new manager following the retirement of Manager Masahito Yoshii at the end of the season.
