Rangers vs. Mariners Game Highlights (8/2/25) | MLB Highlights
Luis Castillo is on the mound. He starts game three for the Mariner. He’s been so steady all year long and he’s been doing it really good of late a lot with the, the, uh, the fastball has been really dominant, leaning on that pitch. A ton Josh smith, cody Seeger, Marcus Simeon, the first three do up here for Texas swing and a miss and a fastball elevated and he strikes out Josh Smith to begin the ball game. How dominant he was coming over in that trade and ever since he’s just been so steady and that pitch right there, that fastball the top of the strike scene. Well, this should finally end it. JP Crawford patrolling out and a Rosa arena right there. Hip to hip makes the catch a pitch to him. Swung on ground ball, softly hit charging Suarez has it throws on the move a little low dugout by Naylor and that’s it for the Rangers. They go 123 in the first and Castillo off and Roland Merryl Kelly though makes his debut for the Rangers but a six foot two riding 36 year old just traded from the Arizona Diamondbacks making his debut for the Texas Rangers this afternoon. Nine and six record. The Mariners go with randy Rose Arena Cal Raley, julio Rodriguez up top swing and a Miss and Kelly gets his first strikeout as he takes care of randy Arose. Arena 42 home runs for count. Number one in baseball. Kelly is 22 and a swing and a Miss, he got him on the fastball , but that’s back to back strikeouts for Merrill Kelly. Kelly in the month of July 5 starts a two and two record with a 235. a and that’s hit hard out to right field. Garcia is back, he’ll make the catch and it’s a 123 1st inning. Well, seems like another really good addition for the Texas Rangers. We go to the bottom of the second. No score. Mariners and Rangers, josh Naylor going to lead things off against his former teammate. Swinging Naylor Golfs one in the air to center field. Langford drifts back slows near the track stops shy of the track. He makes the catch as he backpedals onto the Cinders and Naylor is retired that brings up a Eugenio Suarez. He had a hit in each of his first two games back with Seattle and this one is lifted down the right side heading foul to Lez has room and he makes the catch and this one lined out to center Langford coming in, he’ll make the waist high grab and the inning is over Meryl Kelly with two scoreless innings to get us going here today. Three strikeouts, Castillo looking sharp Telez still trying to find his swing as a ranger. He’s five for 18 0 two pitch and Telez bounces it right side, smothered out there by Young. His throw is late and to is aboard and he hits his ball high in the air deep out to left Arozarena back. It’s gone and Higgy has done it again. Castillo trying to go up doesn’t get it up enough. And Higgy who’s seeing the ball great right now, catches it clean and puts the Rangers on the board and, and he takes low. That’s Paul Ford good at bat. So an infield hit a two run homer now, a walk bottom third of the order for the Rangers getting something done here to get Seeger to the plate. 32 pitch that’s lined out to right field. That’s a base hit Osuna got that head start and Beasley throws up the stop sign at third. Seeger’s single has put Rangers on the corners. Now, Marcus in the batter line yard two outs and Castillo in a position here where he can limit the damage, Garcia in a three for 23 funk on this road trip. He got him. He blows it past him and Luis Castillo limit the damage. He strands a pair and strikes out. Garcia been fun to watch today. Our first look at Kelly in a Rangers uniform challenge here. He’ll get Raley to start the inning 02 and a swing and a miss at the changeup start so far for Kelly julio, a little tapper out in front of the plate. Higashioka Pounces on it. It’s in fair territory and he throws him out and that’s a quick out number two. Now, Naylor, and he’ll roll this one down to first. How about that? To Les, to the bag. Kelly making it look easy so far this afternoon? Another swift fourth inning. All right, we go to the bottom of the sixth inning. The one baserunner for the Mariners so far came on a Cole young infield, single little dribbler down the right field line, this ball short hops and goes over the wall for a ground rule. Double, everybody get fired up about that one. The Mariners have an extra base hit. This is where this kind of new ordered lineup for the Mariners can really come through for you. You’ve got randy Cal julio at the top and right now the tying run is at the plate line drive and JP having a duck for cover. Mariners have him on the corners and here is Cal Raley Cal struck out twice. Second move and they’ve called a bark, they call a bark on Kelly. Wow, here comes Crawford and that’s how the Mariners get their first run. So there was a pick off attempt , Then he stepped off and Then he picked over there again, 2 to 2 and that looked good. Strike three called Raley goes down looking and down on strikes for the third time today up to Julio now in right field and it touches that base hit cleans up Garcia’s glove. This game is tied as julio stands up at second base. He has evened it up. Garcia has been so good defensively this year for the Rangers, but that was possible that puts Julio at second base. Here is Naylor, a chance to put the Mariners in front chopper back to the mound. Kelly is going to third, went to third base with it and he throws wide and julio all smiles, everybody’s safe. That’s frustrating. All he had to do is throw it to first base and the inning is over, I guess in this ballpark, crazy things happen. So he walks off the mound and his Rangers debut pitched well for sure. But you know, an odd bottom of the sixth, they have runners on the corners for sean Armstrong and Eugenio Suarez is the man at the plate. Two balls, two strikes to Suarez and a swing and a miss. He got him spun the sweeper right past him. The inning is done. Danny Coolum on the pitch for a second straight game. His Rangers debut yesterday was a strong one and a 2 to 2 tie here in the bottom of the seventh inning left on left facing canzone. Let’s see if this can find a soft patch and it does, it drops in can zone, go ahead run is aboard Mariners have them at 1st and 2nd. A four pitch walk to Garver up and in, he draws ball four. It has been one tremendous at bat after another for Cole Young in this series in particular. Now they’re sticking with the LAO who to be fair has been just dynamite this year. And really regardless lefty or righty to face Randy and that is strike three called a Rose arena down looking what a huge strikeout for ko and now with the bases loaded, he’s going to face right now. It seems to be the American League MVP of 2025 right in there. Strike three called and Danny cool, walk it off the field. Big boy, you just got out of a mess. Wow, there we go. Bottom of the ninth. The Mariners a chance to walk it off two to the score. The Mariners will call on Jorge Polanco to pitch it. Cole win is on for the Rangers having a good season for Texas. A 135 a in 16 games, 20 innings. This is not a safe situation, but for the Rangers in this ballpark, it really feels like it inside ball for a leadoff walk to Polanco and he swings and misses strike three. So win gets a very big strikeout here one away JP. Walked it off last night. The crowd wants it again. The 12 swing and a ball lifted into the air left center field, Osuna and Langford are there and it’s Langford who makes the catch and strike pitch and this one’s popped up. We should have extra innings. Smith coming down the line makes the catch and we will go to the 10 Mattrs will be the new pitcher in the 10th innings. Duran is the man at second base. Kyle Higashioka, you love the way he’s swinging the bat. There’s a Bloke center field that will drop base hit. Here comes Durant, the throw not in time. Higashioka does it again and he puts the Rangers in front 3 to 2 and a breaking ball lifted out into short right field. That could be trouble drops in and that’s another base hit. The Rangers have dropped two hand grenades this inning and they are going to walk Seager. So the bases are loaded. You got Marcus Simeon who’s been swinging the bat well and has hit a couple of balls hard today and a little roller slowly hit to short Crawford’s play to first just in time. It’s good enough to get another run to the plate just slow enough that the Rangers extend the lead to 4 to 2 going to need some 10th inning magic here tying run right away at the plate in a rose arena that have this game is tied. Unbelievable. Arozarena, no one in the big leagues has hit more home runs than randy Arosa Arena over the last five weeks, he blasted that one to left a no Doubter and it’s 44 to the 11th. We go. Mariners and Rangers all tied again four apiece. Peterson. The batter 11 pitch and that’s bounced sharply into left field. Garcia has to stop at third. Wyatt Langford. The batter Langford one for four and he hits this one sharply into right. That’s a base hit Garcia scores easily. Haggerty racing to third, he’ll get down. He’s in there, Langford with the RB. I hit the Rangers lead 5 to 4. So the Rangers back out in front here. This one is lined in the right. That’s a base hit haggerty scores and the Rangers beat continues its 6 to 4. Obviously , both bullpens are thin at this point. I still can’t get over this storyline of Louis Curve who made his major league debut just two nights ago was called on for injury replacement mid at bat in the 10th and struck out Geno and now is tasked to get the final three outs. Master Bony pops this one up short left field haggerty coming in but it is going out and Seeger makes the catch and Garver pops it up near first base. Durant squeezes it two gone and the Mariners are down to their final out and it is JP Crawford Crawford walked it off last night. Is there more magic dust here today 22 pitch and a swing and a fly ball short right field. Here comes Garcia, he makes the catch and this one is over. Rangers take one in extra innings, 64 1st win here since September of last year, Rangers score in the 10th, they score in the 11th and this is the first time I’ve ever been here where the Seattle fans are quiet and walking out of the stadium.
