Atlanta Smoke vs. Orlando Monarchs – Championship Series Game 2 – July 31st
University for game two of the championship series in the women’s professional soft pitch. Easy for me to say. Women’s professional softball fast pitch between the Orlando Monarchs and the Atlanta Smoke. Last night we had quite the game in favor of the Orlando Monarchs. They dominated with a 101 victory over the Atlanta Smoke. And here is the dominating reason why things progressed the way they did. Here’s M. Barbara up at the plate hitting her first of two home runs. You see Jasmine Hill trying to chase it down in center field, unable to do so. But that wasn’t all. Barbara comes back to the plate for her second appearance. Hits another home run. This time a threerun jack. And there you see it right there. And that was the beginning of the end. The nail in the coffin if you will. And that started the 10 to one route. Game ended in favor of the Orlando Monarchs. There you see Barbara round in the corner heading home. Well, only thing left to do before we get things started is we’re going to give a rundown of the batting order tonight. And we’ll start off with the Orlando Monarchs batting first. Atlanta Smoke, excuse me. I’m going to start off with the batting over the Atlanta Smoke batting first. Number three, Coco Woolly. Batting second, number 21, Silent Rain Espinosa. Batting third, number nine, Kiki Malloy. Batting fourth, number four, Charlotte Eckles. Batting fifth, number 47, Morgan How. Batting sixth, number 51, Mattie Grim. Batting seventh, number 77, Jasmine Hill. Batting eighth, number 13, Taylor Craft. And batting ninth, designated player number 44, Michaela Timmons. And on the mound, excuse me, inside the circle tonight for the Orlando Monarchs will be number eight, Caitlyn Felton, the University of Central Florida graduate. And behind her in the outfield playing center field, Dallas Goodnight, left field, Stormmy Kzelnik, Khloe Mala Alu playing right field. And you’ll see the first pitch of the game is a chopper over to third and an easy first out for the Orlando Marx. We’ll run down the defense here in just a moment. One up, one down to start the game for Caitlyn Felton. Number 21. Short stop tonight for the Monarchs. Kylie Sand playing catcher Julia Koyonopoulos. So as you see that first pitch to Espinosa is a strike. Second base tonight number nine Devin Flity and Alli Skaggs playing first base. And playing third base tonight Tessa Mala Aloo. And you see Espinosa taking the second pitch of her at bat. Ball one. Count is now even one ball one strike. Atlanta Smoke are in desperation mode. They need a win tonight to force a game three tomorrow. Strike two to Espinosa. She was moved to second base tonight. She was first base last night. Mattie Grim taking her spot at first. Kind of a a position shift tonight for the Smoke. We’ll see that when they arrive on the field in defense position. And there you see evening the count on that pitch. Felton. And it appears that the rain is starting back up. You’ll notice the late start time. I seen that this is becoming a trend here at Kennesaw. The rain, the lightning just isn’t our friend, but it’s subsided. We were able to get things going and it’s starting to pick up just a little bit as Espinosa hits that one foul. She’ll stay alive in the count. Thank you so much for joining me wherever you are this evening. My name is Drew Dickinson and we are broadcasting live right here inside Bailey Park from Kennesaw State University. Game two of the championship series between the Orlando Monarchs and the Atlanta Smoke looking to crown the 2025 women’s professional fast pitch champion. As I said yesterday, Atlanta Smoke looking to three repeat. And the Monarchs looking to knock the smoke off their perch. One more victory tonight and we’ve got new champions. Still in the top of the first. Espinosa. Two balls, two strikes. Here’s the pitch from Felton. Going to be low. Full count now here for Espinosa. Espinosa. Another California native. I feel like it’s just becoming repetitive. So many Californians here between both teams. Here’s the pitch from Will. This one’s going to be a blooper to third. Easy out for the Monarchs. Out number two and headed to the plate. Kiki Malloy number Kiki Malloy. Kiki coming to us from Woodenville, Washington. And she’s carrying a incredible 400 batting average on the season. and she takes the first pitch from Felton ball one. Caitlin Felton inside the circle tonight comes to us from Valerico, Florida. She attended the University of Central Florida, recent graduate and back in February pitched a no hitter looking to bring the championship home. Monarchs have who they want inside the circle. Last night, Morgan Smith pitched one heck of a game. Can’t say the same for the Atlanta Smoke. three pitchers used last night. They’re going to look for Autumn Peas to go the distance. That pitch will be called strike one to Kiki Malloy. Malloy part of that 2024 Tennessee SEC Championship squad. Here’s the pitch from Felton. One’s going to be low. Good eye from Mallaloy. Three balls, one strike, two outs here. Top of the first. Will we have a new fast pitch champion? We’ll find out in at least 6 and 1/2 more innings. Here’s the pitch from Felton to Mallaloy. And it’s going to be just a bit outside. And Felton with her first walk of the night. And here comes Charlotte Eckles up to the plate. Georgia native. She went to Northgate High School close to the Fateville Sharpsburg area. If you’re unfamiliar, she attended Michigan State and rounded off her college career at the University of Florida. And she was the offensive player of the year for the 2024 fast pitch champion Atlanta Smoke. Here’s the first pitch of the at bat from Felton. Good eye from Eckles. She takes first pitch ball and if needed the ever dangerous Morgan How on deck for the Atlanta Smoke. Kiki Malloy on first. Second pitch to Eckles. This one’s going to be driven down the first baseline, but it will stay foul. First strike of the atbat. One ball, one strike. Eckles carrying a 343 batting average on the season. Four home runs, 23 RBI. Here’s the pitch. And that one’s going to be outside. Another ball. Malloy giving Scaggs over at first base in Felton. There’s her little anxiety as she creeps off the bag looking to start that sprint. If Eckles gets the hit, here’s another pitch. And this time, another foul down the first baseline for Charlotte Eckles. You know, when the sun’s not blasting, it’s not 90° outside, it actually feels pretty good. We got a nice little breeze picking up here in Kennesaw. But on the diamond, we’ve got two balls, two strikes for Charlotte Eckles with two outs here. And she’ll call time. Re situate. Step back in the box. Remember Morgan How on deck for the Atlanta Smoke. Here’s the pitch. Another foul there from Eckles. Yeah, we saw the you saw the video package of Mac Barbara earlier in the show and I tell you what, she came up in the first inning and hit a bomb and then her second at bat like I said in the fourth. That one just going to be a tad outside. A little low there for Eckles. Full count. Charlotte’s only struck out four times this season, so that’s not going to be likely. As I say that, she takes ball four and we’ll head over to first. And Malloy will head to second. And as I stated, the ever dangerous Morgan How stepping up to the plate. And if the Atlanta Smoke want to keep their season alive, they’re going to really need Morgan to have some success at the plate here tonight. She’s got two outs, two on, facing Felton for the first time. She’ll take the first pitch, ball one. Mattie Grim stands on deck if she’s needed. Here’s the pitch from Felton. And that was going to get away from Koyonopoulos. The runners will advance. That seemed to be the tail of the tape last night for the Atlanta Smoke. I can’t tell you how many how many times the base runners will advance on, you know, a wild pitch or a pitch in the dirt that got behind the catcher. Elizabeth Mason was dealing with a lot last night. Pow seems to be finished. Koinopoulos heads back behind home plate and Caitlyn Felton steps back in the circle. We seem to be rare and ready to go. Still two outs. Top of the first. Here’s the pitch from Felton. How’s going to hit it right in that gap in between shortstop and third. Malloy will score. Eckles will stop at second. And a base hit for Morgan How. I said it while she was stepping up to the plate. She’s going to need to have some success. And sure enough, an RBI single at her first at bat. And here comes Maddie Grim real quick. Take a look at this from Howal. She goes opposite field. Here’s a great look. Seems to be her bread and butter. She’s very good at going opposite field. You can see the gap over there. Here’s the first pitch to Grim. High inside. Ball one. Runners on the corner for Mattie Grim. There’s a beautiful hit down the third baseline. If it stays there still, we’re going to have a big time score here. Echo scores. How rounds third. She’ll score. Three nothing Atlanta Smoke here with two outs in the first inning. Mattie Grim just delivered a two RBI double. And that’s more like it. A little bit more familiarity here for the Atlanta Smoke. Two hits, two runs. Take a look at this replay from Mattie Grim. She’ll go opposite field as well. If we can get a shot at the placement. Look where this ball lands. Chasing it down over in left field. But unsuccessful was Katzelnik. She’ll scoop it in the corner there. You see how round third step on home plate and the Kent State graduate Matty Graham two RBI double and that brings up Jasmine Hill. Go figure. Another California native. First pitch to Hill. Strike one. Jasmine has a 277 average on the season. Second pitch, she goes opposite field herself. This one goes way foul in the right field corner. This place would have came unglued if that one went over the fence. Jasmine started her college career out west at Arizona State. Finished it at Texas A&M. She’s got one ball, two strikes as she steers down Caitlyn Felton. Two outs here. Top of the first. Incredible way to start this game for the Atlanta Smoke. Here’s the pitch from Felton. This is going to be hit foul over the first baseline once again from Jasmine Hill. Dallas good night. Tessa Mala Alalu and Mac Barbara do up in the bottom of the first for the Monarchs if they can get out of this inning right here. Foul tip off Jasmine Hill. Grim will head back to second. Caitlyn Felton, pitcher for the Monarchs, two-time Big 12 pitcher of the week. Both of those coming earlier this year in 2025. There you see a bad pitch. Heading to third is Grim and she’ll stand up at third with ease. And there you see it. It’s just like it’s kind of like things are, you know, just a flipped 180°. That’s the second time already. Here you see, let’s see it from this angle. was going to hit the dirt right in front of home plate and give Kouty Nope a little trouble allowing Grim to advance. That was going to be inside. Full count here for Jasmine Hill. Coach Tarbin standing over at the third baseline. Has to be enjoying what she’s seeing from her smoke. And there you see ball four. Another walk here for Felton. Hill heads to first and Taylor Craft will head to the plate for the Atlanta Smoke. Still got two outs here. Taylor Craft from Otto, Florida. Played her college ball at Duke and Minnesota. She’s got a 200 batting average. Looking to increase that here while she faces Caitlyn Felton for the first time tonight. That one’s going to be a tad outside for the umpire’s liking. Ball one. Feels like deja vu. We’ve got runners at the corner. Two outs. Atlanta Smoke in prime positioning to extend this lead. Hill at first, Grim at third. And Craft takes ball two. She didn’t play too many games at Duke, just 26 games. and she mosied over to Minnesota where she played 160 games, 41 homers with a 328 average. Let’s see if she can bring in some more runs. That one’s going to be inside. Three balls, no strikes now for Taylor Craft. And another walk there for Felton. Here comes Michaela Timonss. Another player here from the Atlanta Smoke coming to us from the state of Florida. Lithia, Florida to be exact. Here’s the first pitch of the at bat. Base is loaded. Ball one here for Timmons. She attended Ball State University. 195 games at Ball State for Timmans. 57 home runs. Here’s the pitch from Felton swinging a miss right there. One ball, one strike. Here’s the pitch from Felton. And she delivers another strike after a swing and a miss from Timmons. There you see a good shot of Bailey Park. Base is loaded for the Atlanta Smoke. They have a three nothing lead here in the first and Timmons will swing at the third one. That’s strike three. Top of the first will come to an end, but not before the Atlanta Smoke were able to deliver three runs on two hits. We’ll head to the bottom of the first. Good night, Mala Aloo and Barbara do up for the Monarchs. Back in a moment. You don’t want it. You don’t want it. I don’t want to. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Welcome back to Kennesaw State University. Monarchs do up at the plate. Batting first for Orlando. Dallas Goodn Night number 10. Batting second number 24 Tessa Mala Alalu. Batting third number 31 Mac Barbara. Batting fourth, number nine, Devin Flareity. Batting fifth, number 99, Alli Skaggs. Batting sixth, number 27, Julia Koyonopoulos. Batting seventh, number 44, Stormmy Katznik. Batting eighth, number 14, Khloe Mala Alu. And batting ninth, number 23, Kylie Sand. And in the circle tonight for the Atlanta Smoke will be number 36, Autumn Peas. Autumn attending the University of Minnesota and Idaho State and her first pitch of the game will be a strike. That ball’s hit to Eckles at third. Tossed to Grim at first for the first out. Good night will mosey back to the dugout and up to the plate will be number 24 Tessa Mala Alua and playing behind Autumn Peas short stop Koko Woolly out in left field Kiki Mallaloy right field Morgan how playing in center field tonight. Jasmine Hill catching for the Atlanta Smoke. Taylor Craft Madig Grim will be at first base and Silent Rain Espinosa playing second tonight for the Atlanta Smoke. Malulu hits a blooper in the gap, chasing it down and making a beautiful diving catch in left field will be Kiki Mallaloy. What a play for Mallaloy out there in left field. Take a look at this one more time and you see hit into the gap and she turns on the motor full extension for the second out. But the smoke have to be careful because here comes Mac Barbara and she had a game for the ages last night. Here’s her first pitch from Peas. This one is hit center field. Say it ain’t so. No way. Wow. Unbelievable. Barbara unable to get that one over the center field wall. Beautiful catch there by Jasmine Hill to end the inning. and the Atlanta Smoke doo up here in the bottom, excuse me, in the top of the second. We’ll have more women’s professional fast pitch right here from Kennesaw State when we come back. Maybe we World. All right, welcome back to Bailey Park here. Kennal State University. Atlanta Smoke have a threerun lead as we head to the top of the second. If you’re just now joining us, you missed the last at bat here for the Monarchs. Mac Barbara hit a bomb right up the center field. Unsuccessful. I I mean, like I said, no way she would have hit three home runs in two days almost. But here comes Koko Woolly. Her second at bat tonight. Beautifully done there with the bunt. Gets to first, but not in time. Beautifully done there by Koyonopoulos. Over to Scaggs for the first out here in the inning. Here you see another look at it. Nicely done. It was just read even better by Mala Alu at third. and allowing Kutosoyopoulos some time to get up, put the ball to first for the out. You see the first pitch of the at bat to Espinosa from Felton. Ball one. Espinosa popped out in the first. Here’s Felton. Foul tip behind Espinosa. One ball, one strike. Weather seems to be calm for the moment. And you see Espinosa hit it to the second baseman for the second out of the inning. Good eye, good catch from Flity. Check this out one more time. I mean, this ball was absolutely laced. Flarity in great positioning though to make the great play at second for the second out. First pitch to Mallaloy is high. Ball one. Kiki was walked her first time up to the plate. There you see it right there. Two outs here, one ball, no strikes from Felton. She delivers a beautiful strike right down the middle. The pitch from Felton inside. Ball two. And the wind up and the pitch. It’s going to be Foul tip right behind home plate. Eckles on deck if needed for the Atlanta Smoke. Flity Scaggs Koyonopoulos do up in the bottom of the second for the Monarchs. The wind up the release here. This one’s hit. It’s going to be foul over the first baseline and Mallaloy will stay alive. Belton back in the circle ready to deliver what she hopes to be the third strike in the third out here of the inning. Here’s the delivering. This one’s going to be hit opposite field and it’s going to go foul over the first baseline. chasing it down out there in right field. Chloe Malauu just in case weren’t expecting many folks to come out tonight due to the inclement weather, but you’d be surprised how many showed up here at Bailey Park. And this one’s popped high. Could be an opportunity for the third out, but not enough space left on the field. for Flity to make the out. Malloy back in the batters box. Remember Eckles on deck if needed for the Atlanta Smoke. Two balls, two strikes. Here’s the pitch from Felton. This one’s going to be popped high. Should be routine. Easy out for the Monarchs. Chasing it down in right field. making the out. Chloe Mala Ulu. Three outs. And here come four, five, and six in the bottom of the second for the Orlando Monarchs who trail the Atlanta Smoke by three. Game two of the 2025 Championship Series. More to come right here from Kennesaw State. Heat up here. It’s a whole another minute. Welcome back to the women’s professional fast pitch softball YouTube channel. Game two, Atlanta Smoke, Orlando Monarchs. Best of threeame series. Monarchs defeated the Smoke 10-1 last night. They win tonight. We got new champs and a great way for the Orlando Monarchs to start their championship route here with Devin Flity, the Florida State graduate, up to the plate for the first time tonight. Flity facing Peas. There’s going to be a bunt. Eckles collects over to Espinosa at first for the first out of the inning. Now we’ve seen two bunts already tonight. Both extremely well. Good placement. Just read even better. Here you see a replay as Peas leaves it for Eckles. Espinosa covers for Grim for the first out. And here comes Ally Skags. Like I said yesterday, could sit here all day and talk about her incredible accolades. She had a wonderful career at Arizona and she takes the first pitch strike from Peas. Skags is all-American second baseman. Swings in a miss right there. 0 and2 is the count. Skags hit 57 home runs in her career at Arizona where she bursts onto the scene as a sophomore starting all 61 games at second base and leading the team with 24 homers. So, Coach Wiggins has an incredible talent up to the plate right now, but she’s going to get sat down. Steer right three from Autumn Peas. And we now have two outs here in the bottom of the second. Check out this replay. Third strike as Scaggs watches it. Well placed there from Peas and we have Julia Koyonopoulos up at the plate with two outs here in the bottom of the second. She takes first pitch. Ball one from Peas. The Mission Viejo, California native has one ball, no strikes here, looking to keep the Monarchs alive in the inning. That one’s going to be outside from Peas. Ball two. Like I mentioned in last night’s broadcast, he represented the Italian Elite National Team in the summer 2021 of the European Championships. Another incredible player here for the Monarchs as she stares down Peas with two balls, no strikes. Peas delivers a beauty for the first strike of the atbat. Thanks for joining us if it’s your first time tonight. Atlanta Smoke got on the board early. Three runs in the first inning. Here’s the pitch from Peas to Koyanopoulos. That’s going to be the second strike of the atbat. Two balls, two strikes, two outs. Bottom of the second. Autumn Peas in the circle ready to deliver to Koyonopoulos. Here’s the delivery. Swung, but she’s going to stay alive. Foul tip. Koyopoulos looks set to return into the batters box. Here we go. Peas back in the circle. Still two balls, two strikes here. Bottom of the second. Here’s the wind up and the delivery from Peas and swung in a miss right there. Koyonopoulos is sat down. Strike out again for Peas. Here you see the replay. She wanted it all. Here’s a better look of it. Well done. Almost had it there from Koyonopoulos. All right, we’re going to head to the top of the third. Score remains three nothing in favor of the Atlanta Smoke. We’ll have more women’s professional fast pitch softball right after the break. What happened? Welcome back softball fans. Drew Dickinson broadcasting live inside Bailey Park at the beautiful Kennesal State University. There you see Charlotte Eckles awaiting her opportunity to face Caitlyn Felton one more time before we headed to break. I let you know Atlanta Smoke still on top. Three runs to none and the Orlando Monarchs need to find some of the magic that they produced last night. Still plenty of softball to go but just not the way they were hoping to start it. Number four, remember Atlanta Smoke need to win this game tonight in order to force game three tomorrow which will be right here at Kennesaw State University if needed. First pitch 715 and we are about to start the third inning with Charlotte Eckles litting it off for the Atlanta Smoke. Morgan How, Matty Grim to follow. These three did did some work in the first inning for the smoke. Let’s see if they can continue their success. Felton to Eckles. Hit into that gap. Beautifully done. Unbelievably done there. Kylie Sand chasing it down. Making the backhanded catch. Check this out once again. Eckles almost got it into that gap there right behind shortstop. But you see right there, Sand chasing it down for the first out. Well done from Kylie Sand. Here comes Morgan How up to the plate. She got on base, her first at bat of the night. And she’ll take that first pitch, ball one. One ball. No strikes here. Felton to How’s going to be outside for ball two. Single and an RBI already on the night for Morgan. How stat sheet doesn’t look unfamiliar for her at all. Let’s see if Felton can keep things going. Looks like it hit her on the wrist. We’ll see on the replay when we get an opportunity, but I believe it nicked that right wrist of Morgan How and she will take the base here. Let’s take it one more look here. Nice shot from the camera. You can see it just glaze off that that left or that right elbow pad, excuse me. This one’s hit into right field from Grim. And that one’s going to be gone. Bye-bye, Matty Grim. two-run shot here in the top of the third and the Atlanta Smoke have started this game with a bang. Mattie Grim steps up to the plate. First pitch of the at bat. Craft steps up to the plate with two outs here in the top of the third. This pitch from Felton is going to be hit high. Coming in from center field to make the play was good night, but she’s unable to do so as Craft turns first, heads to second, and she slides in for a double. just unable to make the tag in time was Flity. And here comes Timmons up to the plate. This one’s hit extremely high. We got three players running it down. Good night called for it. Just unable to get the glove under where it needed to be there. You see right there, beautiful shot there from the cameraman, camera person just missing the tag. There was Flareity. Here’s the pitch from Felton. This one’s going to be hit to Flity. She’ll go over to Scaggs at first and we’ll end the inning, but not before the Atlanta Smoke put two more runs up on the scoreboard and we’ll head to the bottom of the third. We have the Atlanta Smoke on top of the Orlando Monarchs who lead the series one game to nothing. We’ll be back right after this message right here from Kennesal State University. Heat. Heat. Heat. And we’ve got number 44 Stormmy Cotzel heading to the plate to try and spark the fire, get the Monarchs back into this game. And I can’t think of anyone better. Coach Wiggins wants to head to the plate to get this thing back underway for the Orlando Monarchs. Stormmy Cotzelnick ready to go. Autumn Peas ready to go. She’s pitched an absolute gem so far. Here we go. Game two, 2025 Championship Series. Here’s the pitch from Peas to Cotzonic. That one’s going to be high. Ball one. The lefty steps back into the box, ready to face down the righty in the circle. Here’s the second pitch of the atbat. This is going to be hit high into deep center field. Coming over from center field into left field to make the out was Jasmine Hill. That one started off a little bit more central, then veered off to left center. Hill got on her bike to make the first out. And coming up to the plate will be number 14, Khloe Malau. Malulu attended college at Mississippi State her senior year. She was third team all south region. And she takes that first pitch. Ball one from Autumn Peas. Kylie Sand standing on deck for the Monarchs as Peas delivers strike one here to Malulu. Even count, one ball, one strike. Just one out here. Bottom of the third. Alden Peas with the windup and the delivery. And it’s going to be called. Strike two by the home plate umpire. A little bit of indifferent feelings from the Orlando Monarchs. They may have a point. One ball, two strikes here to Malulu. Peas likes the sign. The set, the delivery. Strike three called by the home plate umpire. Down goes Malauu. And here comes Kylie Sand. Here you see the replay of that last called strike by the official one more time. Another strike out here for Autumn and Sand up to the plate. She’s from Chino, California. She’ll see the first pitch, strike one there from Peas. started her career at Louisiana and mosied on over to Rutgers where she was first team NFCA all region in 2022 and 2023. She’s got no balls, one strike here with two outs. The deliver from Peace right back to her. What a play from Peace as it almost bounced right off her gut, but she was able to finagle it back into the glove to end the third inning. And what a defensive play from the pitcher. Gregmatic style there from Autumn Peas. That’s the third out of the inning. And we’re going to head to the top of the fourth. The Atlanta smoked do back up at the plate. There you see it once again right off the gut. Right into the glove from Autumn Peas. Down goes Sand. And we’ll head to the top of the fourth with the smoke on top of the Monarchs. Five to nothing. This one’s hit extremely high. You put about another two feet on the end of that swing and that might be over the fence. Great play. Great heads up there from the Orlando Monarchs. But good night may have something to say as Autumn Peas delivers strike one. Here’s the second pitch of the at bat. Peas to good night. It’s going to be hit behind home plate. 0 and one. Top of the order here for the Monarchs. Like I said before, really good opportunity to start making some noise here. down five. Times a ticking. But if any team has the fortitude and the the gusto and the will to fight back, it’s the Orlando Monarchs. Seems played 13 games. Monarchs have only won four. What a gorgeous night here in Kennesaw, Georgia. These two teams battling it out, hoping to leave with some jewelry either tonight or tomorrow night. This was going to be hit laserlined into center field. Base hit to lead off the fourth inning for Goodn Night. And here comes Malulu number 24. Here you see this base hit for goodn night. This is my favorite view right here. You can see just perfectly hit right up the middle. Oh, this one might be even better. Well done. Here comes Mala Ulu the lefty facing the righty and Autumn Peas one more time. The wind up the delivery from Peas. This was going to be chopped to shortstop. Oh, the bounce got the best of Woolly and getting run down by the Atlanta Smoke was Dallas good night. And it’s honestly, you know, no fault of her own. No balls, two strikes. Autumn Peas with the delivery. Did she go? Did she go? She did says the home plate umpire. That’s going to be strike three for the second out of the inning.
