Orioles vs. Guardians Game Highlights (7/23/25) | MLB Highlights
Third of four games in this series. The Guardians have taken the first two against the Orioles. Guardians 10 and two in their last 12. And it is Superman night on the corner of Carnegie and Ontario. And Slate Sakone will be our Toyota starting pitcher today. Coming off a very good start where he went eight innings. He did not walk a batter. Only had two strikeouts, but he was featuring ground balls. 67% first pitch strikes. He was all over it. Jackson Holiday digs in. Holiday is the DH tonight. And he just missed outside with a fast ball. And what a nice lead off at bat by Jackson Holiday. Aha. Double play ball to Hermirez. There’s one and two. And that’ll take care of that one. Steven Quan heading towards the plate to meet Zack Epwin tonight. He’ll start off the card. And good news for him after missing the athletic series. He’s been in the lineup for Cleveland today. Quan towards left center field. Mullen’s racing back, stepping into the warning track in front of the high wall, running down out number one. Here’s Jose Ramirez. Jose Ramirez, a liner sinking towards Cedric Mullins, who gets there in plenty of time to retire Ramirez. Zack Efflin. Three outs to start and a quick bottom of the first. Ryan O’Harn gets it started. Got most of the night off last night. Came off the bench, came through with a pinch hit after going 0 for four on Monday. And it’s lashed right back up the middle for a base hit. No doubt Ryan O’Harn trying to replicate what he did the first couple of months of the regular season in the back half. Cows are batting at 226 for the year. Eight homers and 18 driven in the 22 is hit on the ground. Second baby double play ball of the game. And even with a low throw, Santana digs it out to retire the side. And now Cedric Mullins will bat. He has been really struggling. He struck out four times last night. And Mullins batting here. They’ll pinch Jose Ramirez in at third base. That’s probably a wise decision. Rips a breaking ball up the right field line, hooking into the corner. That’s a fair ball. One hop up against the wall. Aras read it well. He trots into third on a ringing double from Cedric Mullins. Mullins got out in front, hooked it down the right field line, dropped it on the warning track and let it rattle around and easily puts pressure on Sakone and the Guardians with two in scoring position. It’s a double play situation for Jackson Holiday. Trying to get to third to get him picked off. See his look at Ramirez tag him out as he was closing in on Mullins all the way and now there are two now and you see that’s his his head. He was mad that he didn’t get to third before he was going to try to steal and they caught him. Well, you said something in the dish. He’s not going well right now and you know it’s bothering him. It’s bothering base running too. He was trying to steal third. He knew he made a mistake. These guys watch the guys after this. They all did. They all looked over and they pointed at Craig Alber. They said good call. A one, two, swing and a miss. Strike three. Holiday down on strikes. Sakone works out of the jam. And we head to the bottom of the third. Daniel Schneman and it’s one and0 so far for Afflin off the injured list. He’s six up, six down. Diving stop made by Holiday. Pops up and on to first. That’s Westber tonight at second base. That was very Holidayesque though. Yeah. Well, a pretty good play by Westy there. He didn’t catch it, so he knocked it down. He had the presence and the feel of where that ball’s going to be. Felt it kind of was under him there. Picks it up. Got him plenty of time. The two two swing and a miss. He gets Naylor with a high fast ball. A half a swing by Naylor and another one, two, three frame for Zack Efflin. He has three of those. He’s nine up, nine down. No score. Top of the fourth. The Orio second baseman tonight, Jordan Westber leading off. Jordan Westber goes up, drives one straight away center field. Martinez going back at the wall, leaps into the air and it’s out of his reach. Bangs off the pads as Westber gets to second with a leadoff double and the fourth straight at bat the Orioles had the leadoff man on. Hit the deepest part of the ballpark. Hit up off the wall there. So he crushed that ball. Just a matter of did was it going to be enough to get out of the ballpark. Really good swing. Head down on it. Moving to third on the play is Westber. Henderson grounds out, but he moves the runner to third. Now, let’s see if the Orioles can take advantage. They weren’t able to do it in the third. O’Harn, who singled as a pinch hitter last night and singled his first time up tonight. A two-1 to O’Harn in the air out to left center field. That’s hit pretty well. Quan going back with Martinez reaching out. The catch is made, tagging at third. Westber will come in to score. That got dangerous in between the Gold Glover and Steven Quan in left. And then Anel Martinez, the center fielder who are still talking about it even though the out was recorded. I really I thought he was going to take his legs out. Quan was going to be down. You see right here, of course, he does go down, but he actually doesn’t go down until after he actually runs past Quan. You’ll see here, right here, they could have ran into each other. Steven Quan leads it off for the Guardians here. Quan fly to deep center field in the bottom of the first inning. High ball four. And that’s what the Guardians need. A base runner. Their first of the night after the first nine were retired in order. One-on-one out. Jos Ramirez. Fly to center. Only time off. Kept the hands back. Kept it fair down the right field line into the corner. It’s dug out by Lauraniano. Jos’s in to second. Quad stops at third. And the Guardians are in business with one out here in the fourth inning. That’s double number 19 for Jose Ramirez. And and the amazing thing here is this ball was just above the ground. It was a great pitch, but he just saw it. Yeah, he just kept his hands back enough. Yeah, he just saw the pitch before. So the Orioles will bring the infield in with one out and Kyle Manardo at the plate. Line drive, base hit left center field. Look at the jump by Jos Ramirez. He’s right on Quan’s heels. The Guardians take the lead two to one. See, that’s what you do. He’s not coming in on the guys. He’s throwing sinkers and change ups down and away and curve balls. And that’s what you do. Take them the other way. See how he’s happy. That’s just natural instincts. Ramona Reus leads off for Baltimore here in the fifth. Line drive. Oh, a diving catch and Ryan Roio Hunard. Boy, did we have a good angle on that. That was beautiful. I mean, time to perfection. Watch Jose’s reaction at third base. He always look at he always you know has gations he wants to catch he helps him do it but that’s a just a beautiful diving catch superman it is back to the top of the order here in the six Holiday hits one high and deep to right field backing up is the right fielder he’ll run out of room that baby’s gone on the first pitch in the top of the six game is all tied up a solo homer for Jackson Holiday as he seizes the club lead in home runs. That’s number 14 for young Jackson Holiday. Third reliever tonight. Colin Selby will take over. Guardians have just two hits. They both came in the fourth inning and led to their only two runs. That’s lined in the left field for a base hit and it’ll scoop by Cowser. Get all the way to the wall. Naylor loses the helmet as he jogs into scoring position for the two out double. He takes it the opposite way against Selby. Well, you got Quan coming up here, a contact guy. Line drive. Base hit center field. Here comes Bo around third. Rugie waves alone. Throw to the plate. S. Steven Quan delivers the tiebreaking two out RBI single in the eighth. Just a brutally basic approach. Yeah. And just take a nice base hit up the middle. Mullen normally ain’t got a great arm out there, but he should hops that catch an awfully tough one to get. and he goes in sliding safely and they will take the lead here in the bottom of the eighth. Class trying to nail it down. It’s a one-run game here in the ninth and he’s got the big boys to go through. Gunner Henderson has nailed down 22 on the year. Bullet and a bullseye. One down of the night. Hometown folks up on their feet. 30,476. Rabone Lauriano one for three on the night. Book it. The Guardians continue their roll. They win for the 11th time in their last 13 games. And they’ve trimmed the Tigers lead in the Central Division down to eight games as Cleveland goes over the 500 mark now to 51 and 50 on the Here.
