「吉田みたいに活躍できる選手は日本に沢山いるぞ!」吉田正尚大暴れでNPB問題に言及する敵側実況「彼はマジで本物のプロなんだ」【日本語字幕】
Fore! Foreign! Foreign! [Applause] [Music] for [Music] [Music] Super. Speaking of ready, Masataka Yosha is back. He’s activated today. It’s his 2025 season debut. What are the actual expectations, Devin, of what you can hope for from him? He’s just going to come in here and rake. This guy just puts up professional at bats day in and day night and day and he’s just going to put professional at bats every one of those lefty bats in the lineup that’s just going to keep crushing righties. Just going to join the club and crush all these ridies that they’ve been facing. Join the club is right and his style of play is is contact first, right? He’s not your typical DH just up there just trying to launch. He’s a line drive hitter. He’s an opposite field hitter, which is great for lefties here at this park. I think he’s going to just kind of mesh right into what this ball club’s doing lately. All right. Well, he’s hitting sixth. He is the DH. We talked about these guys expectation for Masataka Yoshida. What are Alex Kora’s expectations for his DH? Let’s listen in. Yeah, I mean like he was driving the ball in 23 until he he got hurt. So, uh we expect him to hit the ball in the air. Uh we expect better at bats. Uh I just felt throughout the process in in 23 and last year that you know when he extended, he felt it. So when he swung a miss, he felt it too. So kind of like he resolved the at bat right away. It was a different bat than early than the ones early in 23. And uh now I think he’s going to get back to that word counts and look for pitches in his honey hole and and drive it. So I’m not sure uh that we knew exactly what we were going to get you guys from Masataka Yoshida, but welcome back to the club, sir. He has not had an at bat for the Red Sox since September 24th, 27th rather, of last season. Have a night, you said it, Devin, when you’re watching the game today. I mean, he had he was three for four. Yeah, this guy, he just hits and it’s hitting the fast ball. Those fast balls are all up and just driving the ball hard through the middle of the of the field. He’s just a guy that goes out there and knows how to hit. He’s a pro hitter. My cousin played with him in Japan and when they played together and he came over, he’s like, “Dude, this guy is such a pro. He just flat out hits. Puts the barrel on the ball always. Just a great hit. It’s good to see him healthy. I love the slow-mos of his swings. Maybe not that one. That was a roll over, but it works because the infield’s in and you drive to run in. But that’s him recognizing the situation going, “Okay, I just need to put the ball in play right here and drive to run in.” But the slow-mo, his bat is through the zone for so long. I mean, it enters deep almost back by the catcher mid and then it’s on just a slight uppercut just like old Teddy Ball game and wrote in his book on how to hit. And it’s just in the zone so long that even if he’s late, even if he’s early, doesn’t matter. Gives himself a chance to barrel the ball. Look at that. Catches it out front because his bat is in the zone. He’s beat right there and almost hits it out of the ballpark. That ball was down and away just barrel. Love it. Maran likes it as well. I mean, this is a guy that we weren’t necessarily certain what we were going to get when he returned. And we’re also talking about the fact like how does this shuffle the rest of the lineup? How does this shuffle everybody defensively? But if you continue to produce like that, Devin, that’s going to be even more complex of a decision to make. I mean, what these guys have been showing the past couple weeks, you could stick anybody into the lineup and they’re going to produce. And that’s what I love about the healthy competition within this clubhouse. These guys are competing with each other, pulling for each other at the same time as well. It’s it’s healthy competition. This is what you want to see, a complete roster of a plugandplay and these guys are getting after. Totally. And look, you played the game long enough to realize as hot as they are right now, this when it’s good, it doesn’t last. When it’s bad, it doesn’t last. Baseball is this. It’s ups and downs. You want to try to ride these out and try to limit these as best as possible, but this many guys swinging to bats like this, if a couple guys tail off and start hitting the skids a little bit, it’s okay. Other guys are picking you up and this is just turning into a team offense that is really good right now. He rol me the other day. Well, here comes Masa, his debut after recovering from a torn labroom in the shoulder. his first at bat of the season. By the way, the Red Sox home run brought to you by Audi. Visit your New England Audi dealer today. I’ve been waiting three and a half months for this at bat. I want the double and I want to see the form in the second. You want to see him run. He shoots that one right away into center field for a base hit. And that perfect form. Well, the man is a machine. You know, the reality is you’re just adding a really good bat to this lineup. career 285 hitter. You know, he’s like a 15 home run pace guy, but what he does is what this team desperately needs, right? He doesn’t swing and miss. He doesn’t strike outs. It’s just another good at bat. And it looks like he hasn’t missed a beat. And of course, Penny’s in the pocket when he runs 280 last year, 289 the year before. Here’s Romy Gonzalez playing first base and hitting 338. Carlos Narvz getting the Red Sox on that scoreboard with a blast. Even though Masa started the year in the IIL, he was still out there in spring training, right? He couldn’t throw, but he had a great camp. Just sort of been swinging it ever since, you know, midFebruary. Wait for that arm to come around. Spent a lot of time in that traex as we mentioned many, many times. You know, the pitching machine with a video of a pitcher. And don’t you want one, by the way? Oh my god. In your backyard. Sure. In Marshfield. Going to hook up that loan for me to get get into one. Truck rolls in just for you. So, here’s the return of Masataka Yoshida. Yoshida is in his third year, but this is his first game. his first two seasons played 248 games, batted 285,25 home runs, a 776 OPS and he’s going to start 2025 with a base hit to center. And the always well educated Red Sox fans give him a pretty big cheer. Well, he hit 280 last year for the Red Sox with 10 home runs, 56 RBI’s, and he could hit. He can. That’s what he’s done since he’s come over in 248 games at 285 average. Yeah, he surprised the baseball world. The Red Sox did when they signed Yoshida 5-year contract. Kind of caught people off guard, but always an on baseball machine in Japan. He’s he’s not a big guy around 5’10. Bill, you said this and and and you know it so well from having played over there. There’s a focus on the mega star which will always begin and end with Otani and and some of the other big big names that have come over and you know some are in Dodger uniform. We understand that. But there’s a lot of other guys that are big league worthy that are really good players maybe not superstars. Yeah, there’s no question. I mean, I think there’s a lot of players in the MPV that could be playing Major League Baseball now. Do they get the opportunity? A lot of times, no, because the the rules with Japanese players, you have to be in the in the league for close to 9 years. So, a lot of these guys are are older. Well, again, you you’ve I’m kind of paring what you have said before. There’s some good bullpin arms that maybe, you know, 28 to 32 that can really help some clubs. Yeah. And that’s what you have to look at, too. I mean, it’s not just the superstars. I think that’s the the trap maybe we all fall into or baseball falls into, but there’s a lot of great players. Just looking at his numbers. And Japan is a career 326 hitter with 135 homers. Yeah. On base of 419. This ball is hit well to center field. Doyle going back. Still going back. Threaten he’ll make the catch in front of the garage door. Yeah, Drew. Going back here playing MPB players and you know there’s a whole bunch of relievers, some really good position players, some starters that are not superstars, but teams should be actively trying to get some. We did a good job and uh early in the season we didn’t do a good job against certain teams and uh we actually talked about it before Washington. I think we play well against Cincinnati too. Um we’ve been playing well. I think we the tough one was Anaheim. Besides that, I think we play competitive baseball. Now obviously we got Tampa. We play against them already. We play well. So we’re in a good spot. um have to have Masa back. That’s a big bat for us. I mean, you saw the difference today how long the lineup was and that’s without S down in the lineup. So, you know, we have to figure out, you know, uh who’s not going to play and all that stuff, but I think it’s uh the deepest lineup we have in a while here. Alex, for a guy you hadn’t seen major league pitching for a long time, but three very good at Yeah. Um we had a conversation be before he went on the rehab rehab assignment and uh I asked him that that was the week um of the fourth right we were going to Washington and I was like how many at bats he’s like two days like how come he’s like well we we talk about the gap between the big leagues and and anda he’s like I he feels like getting up bats here is is better than actually getting up bats down there and um he did a good job throughout uh the rehab tracking pitches and you know the swing was always there. Uh he had a a little setback at one point you know with his back when he went to Fort Meyers but um the guy he he’s a good hitter. He’s a professional in every aspect. At one point I was I was worried that he was going to be frustrated with the whole situation, right, of him able to hit and not being activated, but uh I talked to Utaro about that and he’s like, “No, he’s not because he he’s not ready. He wasn’t ready, you know, with his arm, you know.” And we talk about the throwing, but the swing, yeah, might look good, but he wasn’t where he’s supposed to be, and now it is. So, we’re happy to have him back. Yoshida is back. It’s good to have him back. Let’s hear what he had to say after his season debut. Yeah, big big win for the team and just getting through the game without any issues was huge for me. This team’s offense has really woken up here. You’ve been watching it now to be a part of it again. What’s been making this team click offensively as it has? Yeah, I think the biggest thing is the you know, first of all, like hats off to the pitching staff and they bring in the good rhythm into the offense and offense is just doing their job. So overall it’s good rhythm away for so long to your first step back hit the ball hard into center field. How good did that feel? Yeah, I think it just felt great to um just hit off that fast ball and Yeah, felt great. Yeah, said that um you didn’t feel like you needed many games in Worcester after all the reps you’ve been taking off of direct and everything. Like why why did it feel so important to get back so soon um you know from into the big league games? It’s you. I mean, it’s a different atmosphere, right? Um, even if I get ahead, you know, if I do well in a minor, I doesn’t really reflect in the major league. So, um, it’s just different atmosphere. So, that’s why, um, I feel like I don’t really need that much rehab games. It’s important for you to get back before the All-Star break to get some games in so that you could come after the break knowing where you are. I mean, honestly, I wanted to come back sooner than, you know, today, but um it just turns out today, but it felt great. And that’s exactly what you want to hear. You want to hear guys wanting to be back on the field. I mean, of course, he missed the first 93 games of the season, Will, with that surgery on that right shoulder laboral repair. Uh it’s like he didn’t miss any time. You’re not always certain what you’re going to get from a guy coming off the IIL, but he looked great. You know what they say about certain guys? They can roll out of bed and hit. He just can hit. He’s a ball player. He can hit. He’s did it his whole career in Japan. He did it. He was a 285 hitter here in the big leagues in his games that he played even though he’s missed a lot of time. But you knew it wasn’t going to take long. He sees a ball in the air. He puts the bat on it. Yeah. Like I just barrel to ball. That guy that’s what he does for a living. Hit ball. Se ball. Was that or wait? I’d be really good playing this game. [Music] [Music]
