yeah it really is and you know he is now he is win day right when when he pitches they win and you know for some reason some guys have that knack but on the flip side with with Sha he’s just that guy man he’s just the guy that you want on the mound he’s that guy when he comes into the clubhouse you know you you you kind of feel the energy and the vibe of what he brings and he’s done it the whole season he’s done it since he’s been here uh and it’s you know sometimes you can afford to lose guys every team has has somebody that they’ve lost

too hot out there tommy Hadavi he’s letting us know how Sha Emmanaga is going to battle in just a little bit listen up uh couple jokes pregame you know couple laughs but um you know I think trying to build off what he did the last couple outings I think our idea is probably around that 85 pitch mark but on a day like today you know with the weather and the heat one thing we got to make sure we do is just communicate between innings make sure that he’s feeling good that he’s maintaining his strength throughout the game um making sure that the pitch data everything looks great you know to we don’t want to overextend somebody in a in a hot day like this as well in the first game back but expecting him to to have no issues you know heading into the game for sure
what are the signs you look for as far as like maybe there is fatigue because the weather that could be indicators
i mean I think number one any any drop in VO spin rate things like that just kind of like the typical obvious things you see right away but more more importantly like we tend to look for the lower body when guys get a little fatigue a little hot um we saw it with Colin Ray the other day in that starting in Chicago um arm slot started dropping legs kind of were going away from him so he started getting very upper body dominant you see that with guys is like they want to maintain velocity and when the the lower body gets fatigued that’s usually what you you search for so little things like that that I think we can try to identify in game but um again not expecting anything other than a normal you know kind of first start back for SHA today well the throwing philosopher he will be ready willing and able the elements not playing a part they won’t play a part in our fan do a same game parlay either doesn’t matter how hot or how cold it is out there my man Cliff he’s always bubbling ready to roll how you going on a good one

what What does he need to do to keep those St louis Cardinals out front and off balance cuz this is a team you know each and every single time they play the Chicago Cubs what do they want to do they want to destroy them
well I think the the one thing is you know he he knows he can’t make mistakes these guys they actually foul off tough pitches they do a lot of that and and I think you know what you’re trying to do is keep the bat alive to get that one pitch and you’re watching this right there so they want to get this pitch count up they want to make him you know work a little bit and and you know it’s his first start since May 4 so you don’t know how you’re going to feel the minor leagues gives you a chance to build your arm up
it gives you a little bit of com you know uh competition but it’s not these guys and it’s just that just nature of the beast so
can it give you a false sense of confidence you go down and your rehab starts and you punch too many tickets and you’re thinking “Oh man everything is back to normal and then you come back up and you get a dose of reality.”
I don’t think it’s false real i think it’s just not you know you can get away with pitches and showed us good enough to get away with anything he wants cuz his stuff is that good i think he knows he has to locate and it’s a field thing for him get back out there get comfortable you know understand that this is about you know limit the mistakes you can and then get into a good flow i think that’s the most important thing of the whole day get into a good rhythm and flow and allow yourself to to sort of get into you know dial into the ball game
and Sha is back the lefty making his way into the ballpark this morning at Bush Stadium as the Cubs and the Cardinals get ready to go at it it is game four and the Cubs gunning for the split a hot steamy afternoon and the Cubs get their lefthander back and we’re excited to check it out and welcome into the broadcast booth john Shambi and Jim Deayes the Cubs are in first place they’ve done it for most of the year with it their top two starters no Justin Steel and no Shot to Ianaga ah but the lefty he is back and a welcome sight
yeah and he’s back at an opportune time for the most part the Cub starters have kind of handled a load since he went on the IIL but lately the starters have scuffled a little bit so he comes back at a at an opportune time to say the least especially against this Cardinal club that could be a little bit vulnerable for left-handed pitching we look at the numbers that Shota has compiled so far this year through eight starts a 2.82 erra 44 and 2/3 innings of work league batting 211 against him this will be his first ever start in this ballpark but great to see Shota doing his thing and if you go back to May 4th you’ll see the injury that forced him onto the IIL covering first base get over there and right there the hammy just bites and uh we knew at the time that it didn’t look good you know sometimes you see a little tweak and you’re hopeful but the way he reacted to that injury we knew it was going to be a significant amount a significant amount of time that he would miss
so the all-star leftander is back in the fold time now to send it downstairs and check in t-mac what do we expect today from Shinman
well first and foremost to Tommy Hottie saying we expect a lot of jokes and laughs pregame so very excited to have Shota back from that standpoint alone but of course the way he performs on the mount important as well we expect around 85 pitches here today he threw 72 in his outing on Friday with the Iowa Cubs but you have to take into consideration the weather here it’s going to creep into the low 90s it is very humid so they will pay attention to the way that his body responds to how hot and humid it is here in St louis of course the things that indicate that fatigue when it comes to velocity and also spin rate so things they will be monitoring throughout the game boo
yeah indeed and obviously he loves that four seam fast ball up in the zone we’ll see how that plays today if he’s right should be a decent amount of fly balls hopefully they stay in the park
an elevated sense of urgency for Sha Emmanaga to make that return and to pitch well because it was against the St louis Cardinals and he wasn’t like derailed a few days and said “Okay your comeback’s going to be against Houston.” Not the same amount of juice is there
no but I think this is this is why you you know kind of navigate through how you’re going to bring guys back and knowing that Sha was ready to come back and knowing that everything you know was sort of now under the rug right you can move on you can move on from the hamstring you built his arm up you allowed him to go out and make a couple starts in the minors

well you know when you have a feel for it you can dot right because it’s not going to be overpowering it’s going to be 92 we saw it 92 93 he got away with it because he he actually hides the ball really well for a guy who doesn’t throw 95 96 he throws 92 so he knows what he has to do but when you retire 15 dudes I mean and you seen the swings throughout we sat there and watched it the swings just look like they hadn’t seen Sha ever in you know in their career but you know Sha is that type of dude when he walks in yesterday he’s showing him on the bench on our network and they’re showing them and he was just calm cool and collect like just taking in a regular game not charting anything but kind of just getting his thoughts together sitting at the end of the bench watching the game with the boys giving the Cardinals an ocular pat down
yeah well you know and understanding that you know this goes through him he he he is the actual ace of the squad right
matt Boyd has been really good we we’ve seen J Mo really good you know of his last seven starts five have been really good for J Mo so I just think when you have Sha the way he is right now coming through the doors then everything else can kind of slot into the place they need to be
yeah show him Iaga he was as good as advertised in that return his first start since May 4th 77 pitches 49 strikes and uh since we’re being very formal about it and he was able to dot we’re calling him S emmanaga here’s Craig Councel with more on his aces day yeah I mean just how he kind of controlled the environment um you know nothing looked like he’d been out there you know every single start and um I think there’s a tendency to get a little over amped in a start like that um and I thought he controlled his effort level really well um his energy really well and that that caused a lot of really good execution when you see him execution in the heater like he was to start the game what does that tell you
yeah I mean I I think well I think right away it told us that like he was just not going to try to overdo it and I think that was that’s the natural tendency on you on a first start back in this situation um stay within yourself i thought he did a really good job of that
showtime is back baby one hitter and five and we shut him out who knew that i’m that girl as part of the Chicago Cubs organization go Cubs go show Emmanaga cubs win and Sha he’s feeling good right now you don’t believe me let’s hear what he has to say yeah it was really good um I was very grateful because during my rehab process the team was playing really well so today you know it didn’t really feel like my first start coming back from rehab it was just okay let’s even up the series so very grateful
was he almost capping up the first batter he had to run to first kind of show everyone he was healthy and fine um kind of a similar play to what happened last time [Music] yeah I felt you know relaxed afterwards and I think the team felt same way you know I was able to stay calm and make the play so I think there was a sign sign of relief after that
seemed like there was he just basically took off where from where he was before surprised at all that there was no rustiness [Music] yeah I wouldn’t say you know 100% I felt completely under control with all my pitches i think you know shout out to the defense also um Kelly where you know he was calling a really good game so I would say you know I was I got saved by all my teammates [Music] fore [Music] foreign foreign [Music]
