On the 14th, Orix Buffaloes pitcher Daiki Tajima announced that his first child, a daughter, was born in May. He began by saying, “I’m happy to announce that a healthy baby girl was born last month, and both mother and child are healthy. I’m determined to do my best to be a father that my child can be proud of.”

Last August, he announced that he had married model Saki Hasegawa. He revealed that he was present at the birth and said, “My wife is the one having the hardest time, so I was there with the thought that I couldn’t bear to feel that way. I did it with the thought that I could support my wife with all my might.”

In his eighth year as a pro, he started in seven games this season, recording three wins and three losses with ERA 3.13. In the game against Lotte on April 30th (Kyocera Dome Osaka), he allowed two hit strike out nine batters, recording his shutout game win in three years.

“(Having children) cheers me up. When I was living alone, I could only think about baseball, and it was pretty tough to think about baseball all the time. Now I’m working hard with my wife to raise our child, and I’m able to balance work and life with good motivation,” said Tajima. He once again expressed his determination, saying, “I want to play (baseball) for even one more year.”
