Mariners vs. White Sox Game Highlights (5/20/25) | MLB Highlights
Well, the rain has gone away, but the cold temperatures have stayed here in Chicago. The White Socks with the coldest average first pitch temperature in Major League Baseball this season under 59°. Hope you’re bundled up here at the rate field tonight. A look at the newest acquisition on the socks, Adrien Hower. This is in the minor leagues this year. He made eight starts, appeared in nine games, erra a touch over five. He does strike out a few guys. Doesn’t walk that many and opponent’s ops a 654. So JP Crawford has been so consistent. Leads off the game with a single and that’ll bring up designated hitter Palanco. Chopper to the right side. Sosa will try to get two. One at second draws return throw in time. A double play turn and a nine pitch walk from Julio. Here’s switching catcher Cal Raleigh. Raleigh pops it up back of short. It’s Mroth in the outfield grass and he’s got it. So, a successful first inning for Hower and his 2025 debut. Casey Legamina is starting tonight’s game. He will at least get this first inning going. We don’t know if he will be able to get into the second, but it is his first ever major league start. And the White Socks in business. They’ve got first and second with nobody out. That will help. Williamson in foul ground. The Mariners rookie third baseman drifts towards the chalk and makes the catch. So, one down. Here’s Miguel Vargas. Fly ball into shallow right field. Tiveres is there and makes the squeeze. Two outs. So, it was two on with nobody out. Now with two outs, it’s up to Luis Robert Jr. Swing and a miss. Got a really offbalance and Casey Legamina strands a pair and strikes out Luis Robert Jr. to end the first. So, two up and two down. No score. Top of inning number two. And that’ll bring up Leodyver. One, two, pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike three. Hower retires the side in order. Dylan Moore leads off the third. Swing and a miss. Strike three on an elevated cutter. Walks issued by Hower. That’ll bring up Palanco. Pounds into the ground and Sosa from the outfield. Grass does the 360 to record the out. Good start for Adrian Howser. Chase Mroth the short stop. He singled his first time. Here’s the pitch. swing and a hot shot in the left. Midroth is two for two. There goes Maidroth. Throw down to second and Chase Maid now has four stolen bases in his last five games. Here’s Palasios and that one gets into right field. Palasios with a single. They’re going to wave in Maid. Here comes the throw. It’s cut off and the socks strike first. There’s that Cali smile. Maidroth making it happen as he’s driven in right by Palasios. So the stolen base, the base hit and the socks on top by a run. Well, the White Socks have runners at first and second with one out. Here’s Robert. He struck out his first time. Swung on bounding ball third base side. That’s a fair ball. Williamson stomps on third, fires to first. Double play. And Williamson a beauty and just what the Mariners needed. So that ends the inning for the White Socks here in the third. They do get one. Cal Raleigh now the tying run at second base for the Mariners. That was blistered. 110 off the bat. Two away now. Tying run 90 ft away for Rowdy. He pops it up off the end of the bat. Shallow right. Sosa will call off Elco and he makes the catch. Hower strands Raleigh at third base. It’ll be Leodyver to lead it off. On the ground. Elco with a nice sliding stop showing you the moves at first base for the first out here in this fifth inning. Tim has proven to be a pretty good glove man at first. He’s off the line able to go to his left and smother that short hop. So, a good play. You certainly don’t want in a one-run game. Tiveres leading off on base. Here’s Dylan Moore. I’m sorry. Wait, what? Well, I think I think when he looks at it again, Ryan Wills is going to realize that he missed one that had the entire zone. So, Moore is at first with one out. The batter is Williamson. Big bounce for Vargas. One second over the first. Double play turned. Adrien Hower signed a one-year deal today with the Socks and he is pitching a gem. A 543 double play. The big story, Adrien Hower through five. A couple of hits, no runs, two strikeouts, three walks, making big pitches, throwing double play ground balls when he has to. And all things considered, a huge pickup for the Socks. That’ll bring up Rodriguez. Hard hit grounder and it hits off of Vargas. Stays with it, throws low. Julio beats it out. Guessing that’ll be an error on Miguel. Don’t know if that ball hit the heel of the glove or not. Tying run is a board in the sixth inning. So let’s see if Pal can make the White Socks pay for that error. Got him picked off. Rodriguez now caught in a rund down and Elco just running at him. We’ll tag him out for the third out to end this top of the sixth inning. So Adrien Howser has been outstanding tonight. Casey Lawrence against Luis Robert Jr. with action in the White Sox bullpen. Robert with a high-fly ball left field corner way back there and it is caught right at the fence again. The wind knocked it down. He hit it sky high and on most other days or nights that’s a home run. Vaughn with two away. This is cpped by JP Crawford climbing the ladder and taking a hit away from Andrew Vaughn. Casey Lawrence gets a little bit of help in the sixth inning. That gold glover over there, JP Crawford full extension. Leody Tver will lead things off. Cracked out to the gap in right center field. Tiveres finds the base of the wall. Leody sprints into second base and the Mariners in business right away. It’s a leadoff double. The tying run in scoring position. We got a pinch hitter for Dylan Moore. Miles Mastra will pinch it. 3-2 in the air to left field and Rojos with the grab and that’ll keep Tiveres on the bag at second base. One on and one away and here is Leo Rias. He will bat for Ben Williamson. And that hit him. It hit him with two strikes. He finds a way to get on base. That’s a big get for Leo Rivas. A four pitch walk and the Mariners have the bases loaded. As expected, Mitch Garver bats for Palano. Got him looking. Strike three. Big pitch from Cam Boozer. And that’ll bring up Julio Rodriguez. Well, Steve, here we go again. This was the matchup last night. Julio Rodriguez with a grand slam to make it five to nothing in the eighth for the Mariners. Cam Boozer trying to get some revenge here in game two of this three-game series tonight. Swinging a fly ball to center. Robert is there. He’s got it from the sweeper. Same pitch he hit out of here last night. So there’s redemption. Two down. Ninth inning. Donovan Solano 0 for one. Lined fair into left field. And the Mariners still have a heartbeat in the ninth inning. Solano into second base. And the Mariners have the tying run in scoring position with two outs in the ninth. That’s some really good contact for a guy who has been struggling better at bats of late. So that really good good at bat. He pinched it down in San Diego all over that fast ball. Middle of the plate. Now you got the problem of the leftander. That’ll bring Leodyver up to the plate. Foul tip. Strike three. Ball game over. Jordan Leisure saves it for Adrien Howser. And the White Socks end a fivegame skid. Final score, Socks one.
