Baseball Play-by-Play Demo – Garrett Jones

Well, they were once rivals in the Southwest Conference, then the Conference USA, and now the Big 12. Tonight, we are set for the first conference matchup at Shrader Park between the TCU Horn Frogs and the Houston Cougars. Great to be here with you again, everybody. Look at that. It stopped raining. After torrential downpours today in Houston, we are ready for baseball. Franco to left down for a base hit. Stro Snider getting the wave. Cox with a relay on the out at the plate. One. Lugo goes the other way. A fair ball. Lugo digging for two. Jimenez will get the wave. Throw goes to third up the line. It’s an RBI triple for Aaron Lugo. That was absolutely what they were looking for from Tommy Leapour. He has really stabilized his TCU rotation after an injury to preseason all-American preseason all big 12 selection Ben Abel who had some Tommy John surgery prior to the season starting. Malachi Lot leads it off against the lefty Sloan as you saw on your screen from California. Been an important part of this TCU bullpen pitched to just a 1.07 erra. [Music] [Applause] One and one on Malachi Lock and Big 12 play. This is his third appearance. He has one save in league play in a 1.12 mark. opponents batting just 0.083 against him in Big 12 action. Played at Wood Creek High School in Roseville, California. Actually had a chance to email with his high school head coach earlier this week, Lucas Khan, and he said one of the things that he remembered most about Braden was his five inning no hitter when he had 13ks in a game against River Valley. This guy has incredible stuff and you can see why as he sneaks one past lot at 74.3 m anph. Yeah, this is a big change of pace not just for the sidearming lefty that he is in place of Leapor, but you look at that sidearm motion, that sweeping breaking ball, went right back to it and very quickly delivers strikeout number one. [Music] Take one more look at this pitch. It is a breaking ball, but he sets up and with the arm action coming from about 2:00, if you’re looking at the hours of of a clock coming home, that good ar motion having it breaking down and to the right away from Malachi Lot to get the first out. Punch out number one for Braden Sloan. A miss to Jackson Lima. slow and last worked against Texas Tech. Went four innings, allowed an earned run and struck out four in relief. One more ball, one strike on Houston second base. Struck out and lined out his first two plate appearances. [Applause] [Music] through the box in center and a clean base hit for Jackson Lima. That had to have felt good. You had to break through and get your first hit of the game. And that one right there, shooting a one-1 fastball right back up the middle the way he did. Sloan just barely able to get out of the way of it as it was scorched right back at him. You can tell that jarred Braden Sloan a little bit. [Applause] One had some velocity coming off the back. Tyler Cox the Houston shortstop digs in. One for two today. Singled back in the fifth. Flew out in the third. real talk more about Braden Sloan and his high school coach Lucas Khan. He said really as a senior he developed some great leadership and character traits. Said his stats tell you a story but his character tells the whole story. [Applause] He shared a funny story about Braden and said when they were coming back from a playoff game when he was a senior, you know, the mood was kind of dead. They weren’t quite as happy as coach would have anticipated and Braden took it upon himself to start singing Ain’t No Mountain High Enough and get the whole team involved. And coach said after that it was a bus ride that he’ll never forget. The best bus ride of his coaching career. All started by this man on the mound, Braden Sloan. Big time personality, big time arm in a three1 hole to Tyler Cox. Yeah, that’s fantastic. Obviously, this is someone that’s climbing the mountain during his time at TCU, too. And you look at his RA on the season, 1.07. It would leave the Big 12 in rank eight nationally if he qualified by innings. There you go. Three and two on Houston short side. Tyler Cox was fantastic on Tuesday in the win over Stephen F. Austin. Three for four with four runs driven in. Grounder to short. A play at second. A play at first. Not in time. And Houston will keep the inning alive. Tyler Cox will reach at first base. Let’s check in with Austin one more time. Well, another thing that TCU likes to do on the bus is a lot of the guys play mafia and according to everyone on the team, Braden Sloan is the best at it. They say he cannot be trusted. He has a great poker face and it might be even better than his change up. That is some A1 reporting there by Austin Ivan. And if he’s got the poker face, that’s what you love. That means he’s staying poised. He’s staying composed. And this is someone right here that’s being very composed here in this relief effort as we see Kobe De Jesus coming in as a pinch hitter for the Cougars. [Music] Former starting shortstop last year for the Cougars going up against the mafia maniac. We’ll call him Braden Sloan. [Applause] Oh and one on Kobe De Jesus. Right around this time last year was when he really broke into the Houston lineup. Had a player walk away from the team after a couple months into the season and Houston never looked back. Deesus took over and helped the Cougars get back within three games of 500 toward the end of the year. Yeah. Took over that shortstop role on March 23rd and was the spark at top the Cougar lineup needed over those last few weeks. down the line and fair. [Applause] Cox with speed. He’s around third. De Jesus digging for two. A play at the plate. Not in time. A go ahead double from Kobe De Jesus in Houston. And the excitement at second, the excitement in front of that third base dugout going back into the top steps for the Cougars. A big one double down that right field line. Take one more look at this pitch. He takes it right past the diving glove of Green and it rolls all the way down and Cox reaches on the fieldielder’s choice off to the races as he’s hustling home to give them back a 3-2 edge. Cougs on top for the second time tonight. And just like back in the third inning, it comes on a two out double. So Trey Brousard looking to extend the scoring threat. [Applause] Brousard walked back in the third inning. That’s his only time reaching base this evening. [Applause] 0 and two. De Jesus has not attempted to steal a base this year. Until now, won’t matter anyway. A drop third strike and a tag applied, but the damage is done. How about Kobe De Jesus? The underdog story continues. comes in the game in a big spot and delivers in the pinch hit situation. Houston by one. We’re off to the eighth.
