Carson-Newman Baseball: Ryan Higgins recaps Charleston 2-7-25

the following is a presentation of the Eagles Sports Network ajw Rogers here on the Eagles Sports Network with game one Food City player of the game Ryan Higgins here on the Eagles Sports Network as K Newman sweeps a double header with the University of Charleston on this Friday afternoon Ryan uh six more scoreless uh I think five strikeouts maybe you may know better than me I don’t have a box score in my hand uh but six more scoreless Innings got early offense again uh to pitch with uh um you’ve pitched in two starts 12 scoreless Innings why have you been uh really good through your first two starts especially again today yeah I think a lot of it goes to uh obviously the offense can’t say enough about the offense recently I mean they’re just on fire gives you all the confidence in the world out there to pitch when you got a lead every time you look up the scoreboard but I think a big part is Nick back there with me Nick’s been great all year I mean he he calls I mean we’re in sync all the time whatever he puts down is what I’m also thinking so I think it’s great to have that kind of flow with him and it’s just really easy to pitch honestly when he’s back there all the confidence in the world in that guy um I’ll follow up with that because you’re in your second year at Cur Newman and so is Nick so what’s that relationship been like uh to throw to him for a second straight year and build that relationship and how that’s helped you uh from the fall to the spring now yeah I think last year we had a good relationship but obviously you can only build so much in one year so I thought uh through the fall and through these couple scages we got in the spring that we really developed a good relationship like what I said that we’re just always on the same same page and it really reflects in the game out there when we’re just flowing and it just makes it easy yeah for sure I’ll ask some of the same questions I asked Colton in his interview uh how nice is it to pitch when your offense puts up a bunch of runs 39 runs in the first two innings of games this year of the 76 the team has scored through the first six how nice is that to uh be able to go on the mound and have a nine-run lead uh in the second or third inning when you get back on the mound yeah no it’s unreal I mean yeah all the confidence in the world when you uh go out there and Pitch with the lead cuz you’re not scared you’re just trying to throw strikes and be as efficient as you can and get your guys back at the plate because they’re so hot you want to give them all the opportunities they can so it’s really nice and I’m proud of all of them another compliment uh to the offense with the pitching has been the defense the defense made some highlight plays today Spencer Williams they guy out at first uh Braxton Smith doubled up someone at first uh Cole Nathan had a relay with Braxton Smith to throw out a runner at third a whole host of plays that were made so when you’ve got all of those things clicking uh does that put you a rocking chair and and feel really good on the mound 100% those guys behind me I mean there’s all eight of them I have full trust in and that’s why I just try and throw strikes honestly I don’t chase numbers I don’t try and strike people out but I just try and throw strikes let my guys work because their abilities are second to none for me and yeah they’re unreal out there all right congrats Ryan you are 2 and0 and your first two starts as a sophomore thank you that’s our game one Food City player at the game Ryan Higgins I’m Andrew Rogers here on the Eagles Sports Network
