Baseball – USC 3, Minnesota 2: Highlights (04/27/25)
Two and one the count to Drew Berkeland. He powers this to deep left field. Back goes Lamb. He’s at the track and he makes a catch and he goes crashing into the wall. What a catch by the left fielder Andrew Lamb. Eastston Richtor lasers this one to deep right field. And another fantastic catch made out in the outfield. And Neils gets back at first base. Jack Bassir just robbed Eastston Richtor out in right field. And they picked off Josh Fitzgerald at first base. He was bouncing off the bag. Quick move and that erases the leadoff walk here in the fifth. The two-2 strike three called out number two. Not gotten anything going today. Slapped on the ground and through the left side for a base hit. Lopez will come in to score and it’s now 2-1 as USC gets on the board here in the sixth. [Music] He swings and misses to end the seventh inning. Two strikeouts for PCEL in the seventh. We are through seven. 2-1 Minnesota in front on Big 10 Plus. Here’s the pitch. Pulled on the ground right side and that’ll get through for a base hit. Fitzgerald’s throw from the outfield is late to third base. And now the tying run is 90 ft away. First and third. The 01 pitch chopped on the ground and it is going to result in a run. Lamb will come in to score and it’s 22. The 01 right back up the middle. Cut off at shortstop by Jameson Martin. That is in time for the Y out, but the go ahead run does come in to score and it’s now 32 USC in the ninth inning. Helm will be off from first base. Three into the count, two down, bottom of the ninth, and he swings and misses. And USC sweeps Minnesota this weekend at Seabird Field. And PCEL getting hyped on the field with his teammates. And why not? He just ended the game. What a great appearance from him. Closing this one out, supporting his offense by not allowing any runs through those three innings. And then the offense responds by putting up two in the top of the ninth to give USC what they needed to get this win.
USC completes the sweep against the Minnesota Gophers with a 3–2 victory. The offense was powered by RBIs from Andrew Lamb, Kade Higgins, and Ethan Hedges, while Brodie Purcell closed out the game on the mound to secure the win.
