【大谷翔平】ドジャースフリードマン編成本部長にワトソンさんが鋭い質問!今後の補強計画を明かす【海外の反応】

Well, Andrew, it’s a big day. You guys officially have a closer, Edwin Diaz. Can you just tell me when you saw that he was available? Was he the top of the list, number one guy you guys wanted to acquire just for the bullpin? Yeah, he was uh at the top of the list, but starting the offseason, we just didn’t think it was that realistic. And so we lobbed in our interest call and we made sure and checked in, but it was very much in the back of our mind like let’s not waste a ton of time on this. The likelihood that he’ll leave New York seems really low. And it wasn’t until Devin Williams signed with the Mets where I think 2 or 3 minutes later called the agent, check in, and noticed a little bit more of an openness. And so that’s when we started kind of getting to work on it. And it wasn’t until Monday night, really into Tuesday morning that we felt like, okay, we got a real shot here. When you were looking to sign him and understanding what the bullpin looks like now, understanding that, you know, he has been a true closer, he would be the true closer of this team, what did that mean just for how you look at the rest of the bullpen and how you want to see things shape out starting at spring training? Yeah, I mean, obviously last year our bullpin performance wasn’t great. Um, and so obviously that mattered last year, but as we looked at it this year and kind of thought about projecting it out for 2026, we felt like it was really going to be a strength for us as is. And so for us to add to it, it was a very high threshold. Um, and what Sugar beats that and just that domino effect down by adding someone like that at the top and now your second best guys, your third best guy, your fourth best guys, your fifth, and just how that lengthens the bullpen. Um, we’re really excited about the options that we’ll have, both right-handed and left-handed, and just the depth of arms and talent that we’ll have to kind of navigate a really long season and hopefully, you know, have a really strong group going into October. When you look at the pitching as a whole last year, how deep the starters were able to go once everyone was healthy, did that have to kind of did that change just how you looked at whether it was the starters understanding the needs from the bullpen when you approached this off season? Did things somewhat shift for you with just seeing especially how whether it’s a Blake Snell and others how much deeper they’re going into the game? Yeah, I mean it I think in some ways was a game of whack-a-ole. So in 2024 we’re riding our bullpen. That’s the strength. So we address our rotation, feel really good about our bullpen, but then that pops up. So now we’re hoping to sync both up together. Uh just the quality of life. So, first thing we have to do is do everything we can to win the West, get a buy, and then hopefully we can have our starters and our bullpin synced up at the same time and have a way better quality of life. What other needs do you look at when it comes to preparing this team for 2026? I think adding a position player um and ideally someone that’s really good on both sides of the ball. We have some positional flexibility so we’re not locked into it has to be this one specific spot which just increases the chances. So there are a lot of interesting guys both on the free agent market and trade market that we’re having a lot of active conversations on. We feel good about something lining up um but may have to be a little bit patient. So, I know when it comes to Edwin Diaz, he is someone who not only is special on the mound, but he does have one of the probably most iconic walkout songs. How much are you looking forward to just hearing the trumpets here at Dodger Stadium, having that moment for the fans? It is electric. Um, I was at city when Timmy Trumpets came and performed it live where the night before he was there and he didn’t have the save opportunities. They got him to come back the next day. Um, it’s funny the night into Tuesday morning as we’re getting closer to finishing this in our suite, we were pulling up the YouTube different intro and getting all fired up. So much so that hotel security came and they’re like, “Uh, we got a noise complaint.” I’m like, “I promise you this is a very lame group. Like, this is like we’re actually watching an entrance uh walk out.” Uh, so he’s like, “Okay, no problem.” left. But, uh, it was fun to go through and I cannot wait. First one at Dodger Stadium and just how electric it’ll be. Also, that security guard probably had no idea what was going on. He’s like, “Interesting that Diaz could have broken the news. Only he knew.” Well, I know that this is going to be a very exciting start to 2026. So, Andrew, thank you as always and maybe we’ll be seeing you again this off season with some more exciting news. So, thank you. That would be great. Thanks for having me on. for Hondo. Fore! Fore!chch! Um, I’m really nervous. So, I will be I will I will be pretty short. I want to uh short I want to first thank the ownership Andrew Brandon to welcome me here. you know would be a new experience for me and my family you know do I want to say thank you to the mess organization for what they did for me in last years really really happy you know what what I did there now we are in a new family we are in the you know I came here to win that’s my goal you know try to win another world series with this great team so I’m really happy to be here and let’s go do when During this process, did you talk to your brother? And if so, what was the conversation like with him with his experience here with the Dodgers? Yeah, I did talk to Allesis a little bit when uh the conversation was getting more close to sign with the Dawyers. He told me that they are really really good organization. They treat every player like they are all really good players and that was something I’m looking for, you know. and he told me great thing about the Dodgers and make it easy for me. How hard was it to leave New York and what made the Dodgers the team that you wanted to come to as you went over things this last week? You know, it wasn’t easy. Wasn’t easy. I spent seven years in New York. They treat me really good. They treat me great. And I choose the Doy because they are a winning organization. You know, I’m I’m looking to win, you know. I And I think they have everything to win. So pick the daughters was was pretty easy. Obviously Dodger players that are currently on the roster besides your you know like yourself now. Yeah, I heard great thing about this this clubhouse, you know, like I like I told earlier, my brother play here, so he told me great thing about the Dodgers clubhouse. Every they treat every single player like the same and that’s something really nice, you know. They I know they have a lot of great players. Future Hall of Famer here and heard that like they they treat the young guys like they are the same guys. That’s something something good because I think how that’s how a winning clubhouse is. Thank you forchech. Fore! Foreign! Foreign! Fore speech.
