Sandy Alcantara Throws 7 Strong Innings with 6 Ks vs Mets

Well, Sandy Alcatra is on the mound here in Queens this afternoon. His last three starts, Gabby, have been really good. That started in Boston on the 15th of the month. Went six innings, allowed a run on two hits, and really since then, he continues to carry this over. It went from Boston back home facing the Cardinals, went seven strong, allowed two runs, one earn, and then most recently on the 26th against Atlanta. Seven more innings for Sandy. Hey, nobody on, one out. One- nothing Marlins here in the bottom of the first as Sodto pops one up. Might stay in play. Ramirez sheds his mask and he’s back and he’s got it. Wow. Right in front of that gate that opens. He pounds into it. That’s a really nice play by Austinine Ramirez. And it’s today’s T-Mobile coverage cam. How do you do it here, Gavin? Oh, what a great play by Austin Ramirez. First thing is looking up and seeing where that ball is and fighting with the sun. He recognized it. Got there quickly. Not easy to do a basket catch with the catcher man. Or you could go right back to that change up. Jeff McNeel on deck here in the second. There’s a swing and a miss. He went upstairs with that fast ball you just talked about. First strike out of the day for Sandy. Uh sometimes it’s great when you talk about it before it happens. This is that forcing fast ball up in the zone. You have a guy set up. It’s always about trying to set up a hitter. Sandy can do that with multiple pitches that he has. Just is not going to work. Bottom of the order. Do up for the Mets here in the third. The 2-2 is cut on it. Miss. He blew a fast ball at 99 right by him. Second strike out of the day for Alcantra. Gaining ground. They have a little jump stop where they’re jumping, jumping, and then boom, take off. Fly ball in the air to right field. This is deep. Really deep and caught at the wall by Weame. Right at the base of the wall. Sodto got too much underneath that fast ball. Inning over. Mets come up empty here in the third as Sodto puts in a bid for number 36. Riota 3-2. He struck him out with a fast ball at 99 miles an hour. Let’s Let’s try to win the series and take three of four here in New York. There’s a swing and a miss. 99 just blew his doors down. Four strikeouts now for Sandy. I mean, Sandy just held that one back. Earlier in this at bat, it was a 95 mph sinker. Had a couple change ups. Did throw 98 away, but this one he says, “Here it is. Here’s 99 for you. [Music] 2-2. Got him with a filthy slider. Nice little wrinkle there. Backto back strikeouts for Alcantra to start the fifth. And that’s when it starts to get really tough if you’re a hitter against when now he is able to also control that slider and throw that slider especially to a lefty down and in after so many of those fast balls. And now you’re seeing just hard hard. You look at that slider, you think you’ve got it. seems to just be in between pitches. Mullins flies one to deep left center field. Marcy’s on the run and he’s got it. It’s a perfect fit for Sandy. Yeah, luckily for Sandy, he’s not one of those guys that third time through the lineup they start whooping guys up. What a play by Xavier Edwards up the middle behind the bag and on the shorts stop side of the second base bag. He throws out Sanger. Nicely done. Nice pick by Hicks by the way. Yeah, great pick by Hicks. I love the stretch being out there and being able to just bring it back. But yes, very nice play by Edwards getting up the middle. A little bit of a jump throwesque as he’s falling back towards left field. Lindor ground ball to second. Another backhand grab by X quickly. Two out. Got to tell X, take your time just for a second. Let Hicks get over the first base. This ball was hit hard. Here’s Edwards. He’s throwing it on the run. Hicks is still getting to first base. He’s able to make the play and get out of there. And it’s been missing for a long time and it’s great to see 1-1. Ground ball to first. Hicks can’t get it. Throw to second is in time there. The Entoses retire and McNeel’s at third. Batty’s at first now for Cedric Mullins. One, two. Anthony called strike three. Mets get a run in the seventh, but nothing more.
