He came up to bat, but the home plate umpire confiscated his bat at the request of Davy Johnson, manager of the Orioles. That’s when Ken Griffy Jr., with his iconic smile, hands over his bat to the rookie. Alex Rodriguez takes Griffy’s bat and steps back into the box against David Wells. With a two- two count, he hits the ball deep to center field, launching a three-run home run that decides the game and leaves the Orioles manager looking foolish.
