Philadelphia Phillies vs. Los Angeles Dodgers – 2025 NLDS Game 4

Beachfront Santa Monica. And not too far from there, we’re at Dodgers Stadium. Rob Thompson and the Phillies trying to get this series back to Philadelphia. The Dodgers hope to finish it off today and advance to the National League Championship Series. Trey Turner, Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper. They were excellent last night in game three. They started for the Phils with Bone Marsh and Real Mutoo in the middle. Max Kepler, Nick Castanos, and Bryson Stodd out the starting nine. Harrison Bader still on the shelf is available to Pinched hoping to start a game in game five if they make it that far. Tyler Glass now it has been a long time since he since he posted a postseason win. Frenchie got to go back to 2020 as a member of the Tampa Bay Rays. Yeah, Dave Roberts was able to get him in there. You see game one for Glass now. He’s got that big fast ball that he’ll sink a little bit to get the slider, but where he wants to do is get ahead and go to that curve ball. batters hitting 104 off that pitch this year. It is electric. And of course, Will Smith back-to-back days for him catching in this game here. And of course, Kik Hernandez at third, Muki Betts at short, Edmond at second, and the Gold Glover, Freddy Freeman at first. Alex Call will get to start in left field today for the Dodgers like game one. Pahus in center field, and Tay Oscar Hernandez in right. Six-man umpiring crew in place. The crew chief, Mark Wgner, one of the best in the business. Jim Wolf, suns out, guns out today. Second base umpire, Dan Merzelle, Nester Sea at third, and the two outfield umpires, Adrien Johnson and Nick Lent. And all the pieces in place. We’re ready to play ball. Game four of this National League Division Series. Two juggernauts in the NL. And the first offering is in there for a strike. And away we go. Trey Turner, the batting champion in the National League this season, back in that leadoff spot. Had three hits in his last three at bats yesterday, including two RBI hit in yesterday’s game as the Phillies poured it on late. An 8-2 final for Philadelphia and a game they desperately needed. They stay alive in this series. More importantly, the five run eighth inning allowed them to sit their closer down. Yoan Don, he should be available for multiple innings here today because of that. Yeah, Turner three hits in a row to finish the game last night. So, a nice little run for him. Confidence booster. We talked about all those guys one, two, and three in that Philly’s lineup. They went seven for 12 yesterday. Schwarber hit the two homers, drove in five runs, did the top three. That one misses away. Not by much. And the count evens at 2-2. Turner hit 304 in the regular season. Won his second batting title in the National League. And defensive swing up and in with a fast ball. And this one starts with a bang for Tyler Glass. [Applause] See Turner kind of selling out what you have to that fast ball and that one just kept rising. Glass now so tall out there. It just comes in from a different angle what guys are used to. One away. Strike out for Glass now to start his day. And the designated hitter, Kyle Schwarber, now hit one of the longest home runs ever at Dodger Stadium last night up on top of the roof of the right field pavilion. Longtime Dodgers historians checking in and the ones they remember are the two by Willie Stargel up there in right field. Well, there have been very few that have ever gone up there on top of the roof. Measured on Statcast at 455 ft yesterday. And Schwarber got the Phillies offense going. And Frenchie, two homers for Schwarber. He was the National League home run leader, the major league RBI leader. And this just put the rest of the Phillies at ease. It felt like it really did after that. Harper the other way. The gates opened a little bit. Yamamoto giving him that 98 right down the middle. And you can see he knew it right away. One and two. The count. Tyler Glass now delivers to Schwarber and it skips away from Will Smith. Frenchie mentioned that Smith is starting in back-to-back games. Normally that wouldn’t even be a story. He is a workhorse back there, but he missed a good chunk of time late in the season with a fractured hand. Missed most of the month of September. Came off the bench in the first two games and now starting the next two. That one’s down the right field line. That’s going to get down fair for a base hit. Hernandez over to Glove it and Schwarber into second base with a double. And now Kyle Schwarber starting to come alive in this series. And what a job here. That’s Glassnau’s curveball here. Usually his go-to strikeout pitch. And you can see that one just hunk. It wasn’t able to hit that bottom part of the zone. And Corbin didn’t necessarily crush it. Kind of off the jammed him a little bit, but able to get on base and get that double. Third hit in his last five at bats for Schwarber. He had endured an 0 for22 streak at the plate going back into the regular season until that long home run he hit yesterday. Schwarber at second base for Bryce Harper now. Harper little roll over ground ball. Freeman hits glass now and there is out number two. Over to third goes Schwarber. Top three in the lineup. It was Frenchie’s focus yesterday as we hit the air. Today it’s our quick fire stat presented by Frigid Air. Well, and we called them out. I mean, it was two for 21 for those guys. They knew it. Rob Thompson, heck, Bryce Harper even admitted it. But give them credit, man. They showed up yesterday, seven for 13, five RBI’s. Got the Phillies a game four today. And it gets them a game four with their ace on the mound. Show Otani started game one. Dave Robertson, the Dodgers feeling better about pushing him back to a game five in Philadelphia if this series goes there. So, it’s a game one starter for Philly against a game four starter for the Dodgers in glass. Now, show preparing for his first atbat. He’s in the leadoff spot once again for the Phillies. Maybe the right guy up at the plate right now. Not a lot of power there yet, but staying up the middle and drawing his walks. Alec Bow takes a ball and it’s 2 and 0. Late afternoon start here, Frenchie. 3:00 local time. What are some of the challenges on both sides of the ball here today? Right now, nothing yet. In about another 20 minutes, you’re going to see those shadows by the LA sign start to creep in the batters box, and that’s where it’s going to get tricky. Always tough as an outfielder here on high-fly balls with this sky being so blue. Two and0 and Bone takes a ball. Lunication is important. Sorry. In the outfield, if if there’s a ball coming to you and you don’t see it, you have to let that guy know next to you right away so he can come sprinting over. Three and nothing. And Glass now misses. Another close pitch. Thought he had it. And Bone gets the benefit of the call. So that’ll be a two out walk. Centerfielder number 16, Brandon Bar Smith. Yeah, pretty good pitch. It was 3 0, you know, and you can see he wanted that one. Look, if there’s one thing we’ve seen glass now at times this year, 18 starts, 43 walks. We saw two the other night in Philly in game one. Probably feels like he didn’t deserve that one. He made a couple of good pitches there against Alec Bow. So now first and third with two away and Brandon Marsh at the plate takes a first pitch strike. [Music] Marsh just one for nine in this division series. last couple of years, just two for his last 22 in postseason play. That tells a bit of a different story though for Marsh post all-star break in the second half for the Phillies. He really caught fire, swung the bat well. He’s having to play center field in the absence of Harrison Bader, who is still out with that groin injury. Although he told me today it’s more hamstring than groin. So that continues to wobble and there’s strike one and two the count something is hurting. Yes. [Applause] Bader says Hammy Philly say groin. So either way he is available to pinch hit today. Dodger fans get loud with two outs and a swing at a medicine glass. Now a strike out to end the first and stranding runners at the corners. Now the Dodgers coming up. Show Otani ready to lead off. Phillies fail to score. There’s Dave Roberts, skipper of the Los Angeles Dodgers. And here is his batting order. Otani bets. Hernandez started. Freddy Freeman, Tommy Edmond, Will Smith in the middle with Alex Cole getting his second start of this series. Kik Hernandez in the eighth spot. And rounding it out, Andy Pahes, the Dodger center fielder. Otani digs in quickly, ready to go. And Christopher Sanchez, the Philly’s ace as Otani swings to the first pitch. A jam shot popup and Bow puts it away in foul grounds for out number one. One pitch, one out to get Sanchez started. You know, we wondered if he was going to take the first pitch, right? And and that looked like a good pitch to actually go on, but you can see Chris for Sanchez right there knowing that big sinker coming in. Of course, the slider and change up. Slider was the one pitch he hung to Kik Hernandez for that two-run double in game one. He left with the lead in game one. He pitched beautifully in that game. Looked like the ace that the Phillies have relied on all year. They lost Zack Wheeler in the middle of the season. It was a devastating loss for Philadelphia to lose your ace. thoracic outlet syndrome surgery underneath the collar bone for Zack Wheeler. He’s with the team and has traveled with him there for support, but a big piece missing. And yet Christopher Sanchez then emerged as not only the Phillies ace, but then started to look like a Sai Young award candidate through the summer. 28-year-old from the Dominican Republic. Had his best year of his career. bets right off the end of the bat. Now, you think about how much pitching depth they have with the guys to be able to step up behind Zack Wheeler, you lose a guy like that and through these four games so far. Starting pitching has been a strength for this Philly’s team. Three lefties in their rotation. We saw one of those lefties come out of the bullpen as the bulk pitcher yesterday in Ranger Suarez. He got the win and he was excellent backing up Aaron Nola. One and two the count on Mookie Betts and half swing he goes. A strike out on the change up. The signature pitch for Christopher Sanchez. [Music] Just so tough to lay off. I’m telling you, when you’re sitting here and you get that sinker and that pitch kind of tunneling coming out of the same area as a hitter, it’s so tough to decide to ask Hernandez, that big three-run homer in game one. But against Sanchez, VA was 0 for three with three strikeouts in game one. He had a memorable game one, but it was only after Sanchez left the game. Five and two/3 innings for Christopher Sanchez. He struck out eight and he got a ton and of swings and misses on that change up. Scouts will tell you, analysts will tell you it’s perhaps the best change up in the game by a starting pitcher. That’s a lighter, a bullet right at Stock and Teascar Hernandez is out. Seventh pitch start for Sanchez. No score as we go to the second. Today’s game produced by Jeff Randolph, The Sponge, and directed by Matt Lip, our terrific TBS crew. Great to have all of you with us today on this late afternoon start and a huge game today to determine where this series is going. Now, we’re going back to Philadelphia for game five and a rockus crowd at Citizens Bank or do the Dodgers go to the NLCS? A line drive real Mutoo to Teay Oscar Hernandez for out number one. And we kick it down to Lauren. And Brian Tyler was happy to see the heart of the Phillies order in game one out of the pen. He said, “This Phillies lineup thrives on mistakes. So I need to make sure my brakes are sharp. I want everything to look tunnneled.” And I asked a few of the Phillies, “What’s it look like out of the hand?” And Jeeoff, you said it. They said they can’t even see it because at 6’8, by the time he releases the ball, he’s on top of you. And that’s where he gets that swing and miss right there. You saw Turner early in the game. You start to go and you can’t hold it and it just beats you to the punch. And that’s why when you’re facing glass now, and it’s so interesting right now, you can tell he’s getting ahead first pitch fast ball. These Phillies hitters are being trying to be a little patient. And if you’re down 01, 02, and we can see right here, this is what you’re going to be dealing with if you’re a hitter up there and you get behind in the count where he’s releasing that ball, the extension, the height from where it comes. very different. 7 and 1/2 ft of extension. Phillies have the exact opposite approach against glass now than what we saw yesterday against Yoshi Yamamoto where they were up hacking early. A lot of ambush swings, early count swings. They’re being patient with glass now as Max Kepler takes a ball. Yamamoto had a great start in the wild card series and had an early exit yesterday in game three. Lasted just four innings plus two batters in the fifth. Gave up three earned runs. A swing at a miss. Glass now with a strike out and he hits 99. His best fast ball yet. Third K for Tyler Glass. Now again he got ahead 02, right? So, he threw a couple pitches trying to get him to chase, but where he gets it here is because of that big curveball, hitters sometimes get a little bit on the defense. And that’s 99 right at the top of the zone. He’s not going to catch up to that. We were walking out of the do Dodger clubhouse toward towards the Dodger dugout. There’s a little hallway as Castillianos a swing and a miss. I felt like the door closed behind us. He’s about to run. But it was actually Tyler Glass now behind us. Yeah, he made you look short. Filled up the doorway. And all business here today. The man’s got a lip tattoo as well under his bottom lip. Anybody’s got a lip tattoo, you know he means business. You can see the shadows now getting ready to get to that home plate area. Yeah, the lip tattoo. It’s bold strategy. One ball, one strike. Nick Castanos on the ground. Let’s watch this throw by Edmond. He’s had some trouble throwing the ball. No problem there. One, two, three inning for glass now to the bottom of the second. We’re scoreless. Dodgers coming to bat. Freddy Freeman will start it. Score. Phillies failing to score in their first two innings. Christopher Sanchez had a seven pitch first inning. Talk about the 68 glass. Now, how about the 66 Sanchez? Well, this is exactly what we talked about in game one with the Dodgers hitters have to adjust. You got that sinker coming in bearing in on these lefties away from the right and then the change up coming out of the exact same spot. 10 mph less with that dive. Boy, both these guys are elite. Freddy Freeman leads off for the Dodgers. Sanchez has had a great ability to stick the fast ball on the inside corner against these left-handed hitters. Well, not only that, but get ahead. four for four today on first pitch strikes. And going back to game one, 17 of 24. So again, pitching from ahead of the the count, which for him then it opens up all three pitches at any time. Sanchez third in the National League in ERA. He was top five in strikeouts in the National League this year and he’ll be among the finalists for the Sai Young Award. Paul Skins is going to win that award this year. Sanchez and Yamamoto probably will end up two three in some order. [Applause] Sanchez does not give up many homers either. That’s a strength of his. Keeps the ball in the ballpark as Freddy Freeman a kind of a miss. Stays with that fast ball just bullying his way in there on these left-handed batters. [Applause] Two-2 to Freeman. Freddy 0 for three yesterday. Was hit by a pitch. And he hits that one sharply into right center. A base hit. Over to cut it off. He’s Marsh. Freddy Freeman with a single. And the first Dodger hit comes to lead off this second inning. Comes with two strikes as well. You know, it’s interesting talking to Dave Roberts today and he was talking about patience and how good Freddy Freeman is at that. Wanting Otani to do that a little more. Get deeper in the count, see pitches. And that’s one thing Freddy Freeman does as good as anybody in this game is getting deep in counts, forcing that pitcher to make a mistake and then base hit. Switch hitter Tommy Edmond who homered yesterday. And he’s on the first pitch again. Liner into left field and it is caught by Kepler. A diving catch in left center. The closing speed of Max Kepler takes an extra base hit away from Tommy Edmund and the first down to the second inning. What a play, Frenchie. Let me tell you, and that ball usually if if it’s coming that way, is hooking to you. That ball was going away from Kepler. And let me tell you, looking into this bright sky in the stands over here, it’s not an easy play. Goal Glover Harrison Bader enjoyed that. They are missing his defensive skills in center field. Now it’s Will Smith. That ball was scalded off the bat by Edmond with the dive. Excellent play. Last night’s game, Mukie Betts hit a line drive to center. Marsh dove for it and missed it. ended up as a triple for Mookie Meds. Swing and a miss. Fast ball ties up Will Smith. Nasty one. [Applause] Smith second start of this postseason. Was on the roster in the wildard series. Did not play. Came off the bench in the first two games of this division series. chipped in with a key hit in game two. He drove in a couple of runs to push the Dodger lead to three nothing in game two. Dodgers would win that game four to three, holding off a late rally, a ninth inning rally by the Phillies. I tell you what, Will Smith obviously because of injury had to miss some games, but you’re seeing both catchers, JT Remuto on the other side, that break for these guys. These are two of the most used catchers in all of baseball. Played constantly. The rest has helped these guys out. Smith had a hairline fracture in his right hand early September on the ground. Cut off by Bow. Goes to second. Out there thrown to first and it’s dug out by Harper. What a play by the Phillies as they go around the horn and Harper with the scoop. The 65 by Bow using all of it there. start an excellent turn. Sanchez gets out of the inning. [Music] Testimal ways to play our great game. All right, we are at game four and a 2-1 series lead for the Dodgers. The road team has won all three games thus far. Bryson Sto leads off. Number nine hitter for the Phillies as we play in the third in a scoreless game. Glass now and Sanchez both off to good starts. Phillies snapped a Dodgers nineame winning streak with their win last night. They had won four straight in the postseason, nine in a row going back to the regular season. Facing elimination, they delivered when they needed it. And now we’ll see how the Dodgers respond after a loss. Roll over ground ball. Tommy Edmond fires a strike to first. Sto is retired and back-to- back 4-3 ground out. And normally that is no big deal. Yeah, but after what we saw at the end of game two, I think every throw has some focus on it with Tommy Edmond. Yeah, both those so far today have been right on the money. No problem. So, but you could tell stop busting out right away knowing how different would this series be if Freddy Freeman did not scoop Edmonds throw. Turner’s on the first pitch. PK Hernandez makes the play. Two outs. That would have at least tied the game if Freeman doesn’t pick that throw which was the final out of the game in game two. The scoop of the year for Freddy Freeman. He’s one of the best over at first base. And we talked about it. The way Kepler was running around second, too. Depending where that ended up going, it could have gone in the dugout. Could have been the ball game. Two outs for Kyle Schwarber. First ball swinging. fouls it away. So, the Phillies a little more aggressive here in this third inning. Early count swings. Schwarber being given a little time here by the home plate umpire Mark Wgner. Shake that one off. [Music] Bright sunshiny day here in Los Angeles. And at an angle right now, all the fielders are just fighting that sun constantly. Feels like it’s right in your face that you’re driving with the high beams on from the person across from you. 02 pitch. Schwarber. A swing and a miss. Big fast ball from Glass. Now upstairs. Quick hitting for Tyler Glass now. Seven pitches. Finishes it with a strike out. His fourth. Dodgers coming up. Bottom third. We’re still scoreless in game four. 2025 National League Division Series is presented by Booking.com. Christopher Sanchez ready to start his third inning. He’s faced the minimum thus far. Did give up a two strike single to Freddy Freeman, but a double play ball to end the inning. And here we go to the bottom of the third. Alex Call will lead off. He got the start against Christopher Sanchez in game one. [Music] Tommy Edmond is unable to play the outfield. He’s got an ankle injury, so he is only playing the infield and mostly second base. So, Alex Call again gets a start, takes a strike, and it’s 0 and two. Call was acquired from the Nationals, just turned 31 a couple of weeks ago. How fast it could happen for you. He’s not even sure he’s going to be on a postseason roster. He ends up starting two games in this division series. Man, that’s a great pick. So, you can see what those hitters are facing right now. Oh, two. Oh, and that hit him. Ouch. I got him on the foot, too. Man, that was a fast ball down and in. And Call is fighting off the pain right now. Hit him on an 02 pitch. Watch this 2BA. Watch. You see how late he never even saw it. So again, what I’m trying with these shadows starting to come, it’s tough for the hitters to see. Ah, there right on that inside part at what, 96. Flush, too. I mean, the way the ball just stopped. That was a direct shot. No glancing blow here. My goodness. Right on the ankle. Wow. Cole going to be given a moment here. Try to run it off. He’s a tough kid. He’s a Wisconsin kid. That’s why Frenchie. River Falls, Wisconsin. Is that what it is? Wouldn’t miss this one for the world. And he’s going to stay in. He’ll get a nice hand for that. At some point, you’ll probably see Maxy hit for Alex. Dodger teammates appreciate call toughening this one out. So, back-to-back innings. The leadoff batter reaches and here’s Kik Hernandez now [Applause] changer is at times too. these shadows, the way the ball’s coming out right now, those two pitches, he can just piggyback both of them. [Applause] Back up the middle. Glove by Scott. Gets it to Turner. Throw it to first. Not in time. Harper did a nice job there to make sure he kept that from going into the dugout. Excellent play by Stut and they get the lead out at second. Hernandez will reach out of fieldielder’s choice. Man, you ain’t lying. What a great play by going over the bag on the left side there. Got to remember I talked about it last night. Some one of the quickest infields in all of baseball right here. So, that thing takes another gear. Good job by Harper just knowing to block it. Keeps a double play intact. Turner acknowledges Harper’s play. Number nine hitter Andy Pahes. and a struggling hitter in this postseason thus far. Just one for 10 in this division series. He’s 0 for nine in the wildard series. [Applause] Pes got pinch hit for last night by Miguel Rojas. A righty righty pinch hit scenario. Fast runner. Tough guy to double up. Time. One and one. The count. [Music] [Applause] Shadows are creeping. It’s going to be a story for the next couple of hours here as these hitters try to adjust, begging for some clouds to show up in Southern California, especially when Sanchez spots the fast ball like that. Well, and that’s about the sixth or seventh one we’ve seen him cook just on that inside part. Looks like it’s going to be in. It just kind of stays right on that plane. [Applause] Thursday late afternoon Los Angeles. One ball, two strikes. Count stays at one and two out in front of the change up from Sanchez. Just to give you an idea how good Sanchez’s stuff is, Will Smith got himself in a favorable 3-1 count. Sanchez just came right at him and got a double play ball to end the inning last night. Only the aces get to that level where they challenge hitters that way. And a swing and a miss. The comio, the change up and Pah strikes out. Second strike out for Sanchez. And so we’ve been talking about Otani, right? And we’re going to take a look at what Sanchez has done. We saved one for 15. Watch where these two balls are right here. So you got the sinker and the change up, VA, when they cross right here, both on the inside part. As Dave Roberts says, show how he can hit it anywhere. Foul pole to foul pole. You got to get that ball out over the plate. And you can see even that is starting to pour in on the inner half. So for Show maybe working a count, trying to go the other way a little bit, take a little bit of that Freddy Freeman approach. And if anything, we know he can hit it to left center out of the park. Sanchez struck out Otani three times in the game one start last Saturday. Two of those were looking. There’s a ground ball. Boom. Oh, he misplayed it and it’s in left center. Kik Hernandez to third. A crack in the armor. Phillies have been pretty tight defensively here in LA. There are no bad hops, believe me, in this infield. Bm just kicked that one. Boy, that was a routine double play ball for him going this way. I mean, just missed it. So, B lifted up the gate and an E5. [Applause] Otani will reach first and third now. Mookie bet steps in. Dodgers have an opportunity to cash one in. Bets first ball swinging. Harper lays out, gloves it, steps on the bag, and Christopher Sanchez with the pickme up of Alec Bow. That’s what aces do. Nice play by Harper. He’s in the dirt quite a bit here in game four. thought of this game after being hit by a pitch right on the inside ankle. So, he’ll stay in the left. And here we go to the fourth. Bryce Harper’s made an impact with his glove already. He’s got that Philly fanatic elbow guard working today. And Tyler Glass now back to work. Always a good accessory game. Bryce Harper. He’s got the show belt. Belt has to match the shoes, right? White belt, white shoes. Thought he might go powder blue shoes to match the unies. Those uh those powder blues are making some noise. And the Phillies have had great success in these uniforms this year. This is not the uniform they typically wear on the road. It’s normally their home uniforms. Kind of a specialty uniform. They’re seven and one this year in the Powder Blues. Haven’t worn these unis on the road in six years and haven’t worn them in the postseason since 1983. I was in the World Series back then. It’s got that old school look to it. First Baltimore, right? Glass now deals and Harper late on it. You just see the way these guys are going at it, man. And it’s going to be another inning or two until they’re fully in the shadows. They’re just late seeing the ball. We talked about call obviously that ball was coming at him the whole time but just couldn’t get out of the way and even a couple of these fast balls to Harper just late recognizing it. Glass now coming off a seven pitch third inning. Finished with a strike out of Schwarber. Of the seven pitches thrown, the Phillies swung at six of them in the third inning. Harper’s had a patient approach here to start this fourth. How tall glass now is in that picture coming 68. And that ball’s hit sharply into left center field. Pah right to the spot with the sunglasses on and a line drive out for out number one. Lauren Shahadi between innings had a chance to visit with Dave Roberts. Dave, the shadows are brutal. How’s Alex? What did he say to you? Yeah, you know what? Uh he said he it got him kind of on the shin. He said he’s not coming out of this game and the shadows are definitely starting to creep in there, play a factor, but obviously, you know, both these stars are throwing the heck out of the baseball. Yeah, Tyler’s going that fast ball in big spots. What stands out to you? Yeah, I I I think the thing is is that with Tyler, he’s got an elite fast ball. He’s got a great breaking ball, two really good breaking balls, but right now he’s making these guys onto that fast ball on his plan and and keeps them guessing. Dave, thank you. All right, you got it. Appreciate Dave Roberts. Thank you, Lauren. Dodgers aren’t used to having these late afternoon games at home, this part of the schedule. You know, typically getting the favorable treatment, the big market treatment. But Cubs and Brewers are the second game tonight, the night game, the prime time game. That is the game four at Wrigley Field. And we’ll have that for you here on TBS as well. It was a very hot topic of conversation as soon as the game times came out last week about this game four. And all of the pitchers raised their hand. Sign me up. I’m ready to pitch on this day. They loved it. And and if you’re in Philly right now, BA, you’re loving it cuz it’s like, hey, we’d love a Phillies win and then you got the Eagles playing tonight. Oh yes, Eagles Giants. Could be a nice night in Philly or could be a bad night. [Applause] in Philadelphia last week in that tough loss to the Broncos at home. That was a that was a tough window there. Couple of days with the Phillies dropping two games, the Eagles losing. Phillies are hoping for better times now as Alec Bow draws the walk. Those are close pitches, but Bow with a good eye and he walks for the second consecutive time. With the Capital 1 Venture X card, you earn unlimited double miles on everything you buy and turn all of your purchases into extraordinary trips. Capital One, what’s in your wallet. But you know as well as I do, BA, if the Phillies are able to win, the Eagles win, all’s right in the world, at least for the next 36 hours, all changes. It can happen fast. Fear not. Dodgers know that better than anybody. Haven’t seen many in this particular format, the fivegame format. Haven’t seen many teams come back from being down 02, but it has happened as Marsh swing. They’ll ask and he goes. Mr. Seaha, third base umpire raises the thumb. Not able to check it. counted a ball and a strike down. Good block back there by Smith. Keeps a double play in order. Two terrific catches in this series. Both sides of the ball. Real Mutoo and Smith. Marsh roll over. Edmonds got it. Fired a second out and that’s all they’ll get. Marsh very fast runner. Great play by Tommy Edmond. Two outs in the inning now with a runner at first. Now Marsh hit this pretty well, but Edmond, a nice play here and smart to know here by Mookie, you’re not going to get him. It’s interesting now to see with Marsh at first obviously in two outs. Runners 10 for 10 off glass now on stolen bases this year. He takes an opportunity try to get in scoring position. JT Realmuto and he takes a strike right down the heart. Glass now has hit on his first pitch for a strike. 13 out of 16. So that’s a good number for Glass. Now getting ahead early on the ground. That’s fair. What a play over third by Hernandez. Uses the glass. A one hopper to Freeman. Kik Hernandez, whether he’s in left, whether he’s at third, and you know he delivers when he’s at the plate in the postseason. That was excellent. Inning is over. Phillies failed to score. We go to the bottom of the fourth. No score in game four. [Music] Come back from down 02. The Yankees of 01. Remember the Derek Jeter cut off and relay in game three. That famous play after losing the first two games at home is the parameter here. The Giants, we had that on TBS. Giants went down 02 at home, came back, won the next three in Cincinnati. Had a 2-3 format in that year. And the Toronto Blue Jays did it as well. Happened three times, losing the first two games at home and then coming back to win a best of five series. That’s what the Phillies are trying to do. Dodgers are trying to defend their World Series title from a year ago and trying to move on to the NLCS. Haven’t had a team win back-to- back World Series in 25 years in the major leagues. Tios Oscar Hernandez out in front of a change up quickly 0 and2 as we start the bottom of the fourth. That’s what gate Oscar in game one was. Sanchez got ahead with that sinker and went to that change up. See if he goes back to it here. Baseball such a game of results and it’s so hard to have successful results. Think about how that game is going for Sanchez in game one Saturday. He struck out Otani three times. He struck out Deioscar Hernandez three times. And it was Otani who got the win and Hernandez who had the big homer. And he wipes out Tay Oscar Hernandez with a change up. Out number one. Lauren caught up with Rob Thompson earlier. Rob Sanchez’s change up is elite. How’s he mixing his three? Uh, really good. You know, he’s using a little slider on the on the left-handed hitters, fast ball change up to the right. And he’s he’s commanding his fast ball. He’s really efficient so far. What’ you see from Glass now in game one that you can apply today? Well, you got to stay off the high heater. That’s what he likes to do. really likes to ride it up there and tunnel with with the curveball. Just got to get him in the zone. Rob, thank you. Thank you. And our thanks to Rob Thompson. Rob Thompson put together the plan yesterday that got the Phillies to this game four going with Aaron Nolan and Ranger Suarez. They covered seven innings yesterday. Freddy Freeman fouls that one back. It does set it up, Frenchie, that both of these managers are where they want to be, exactly where they want to be with their bullpens today. Well, that’s why as good as these both these guys are in glass now and Sanchez, you’re going to have some heat coming out of that bullpen today. So again, shadows three. We figured this would be a very lowscoring game here today. 02 to Freeman. Trey Turner and Freeman is retired. Two outs here in the fourth. talked about game one Sanchez 12 swinging misses on that change up already. Five whiffs on that pitch and 10 swings. So number 25 Tommy Edmond brings up Tommy Edmond. Swung at the first pitch in the second. He lined out to left. That diving catch by Max Kepler takes the first pitch here right down the middle with a change up. It’s almost like Sanchez knows when they’re going to swing and when they’re not. Change ups down the middle when they take out of the strike zone when they’re swinging. There’s a slider just to kind of keep you honest. Again, all these hitters for the most part today on both sides have been 0212 majority of the time. and the off speed stuff and the the fast ball command that both these pitchers have. You add that in with the shadows and reason you have a zero game and only two hits on the day. Look at that out there. Oh, and two the count on Edmond with two away. laid on it. [Music] Sanchez, his last seven starts, including his game one start of 179 RA. He got stronger as the season went on. Defensive swing may have broken his back. Stock puts Edmond away and a one, two, three inning for Christopher Sanchez. He is standing tall on the Dodger Stadium mound this afternoon. We are still scoreless after four MLB postseason is brought to you by booking.com. booking.ya. Players leaving it out there. A lot of them in the dirt early in this one and some good plays in the infield. Face cam brings you the action from field level. Here we go to the fifth inning from Dodger Stadium. 98 mph fast ball. Didn’t get the call that time. Glass now opens up his fifth inning. Has four strikeouts thus far. He’s walked two. and Max Kepler, who made a diving catch, robbing Tommy Edmond of a hit back in the second inning. He starts it. Dodgers have relied heavily on their starting pitchers, whether the starters are actually in the starting rotation or starters that didn’t make the cut like Glass. now prior to today and have it pitched out of the bullpen. You’re feeling the full weight of the massive Dodger payroll in this series. They’ve got stars everywhere. Think about how many games we see now. Game three, game four of the playoffs, TBD or bullpen game, half swing and oh he didn’t go able to check his swing. Master Sea palms down. That was close. Dave Roberts is not happy about that. He popped up out of that bench. Boy, that looked really close up here. Could have gone either way. Kepler gets a break. Think about how many starters and the Dodgers, you’re in game four. Oh, we get a roll off Tyler Glass now. I mean, that’s the strength of this ball club. credit Dave Roberts. He’s leaning on them heavy, including two late game relievers today in Shia and Sasaki as Kepler draws the walk to start this fifth inning. We send it down to Lauren. Brian, I think game three was the first game we saw the Dodgers bullpen weakness really rear its head. David gotten 67 from his starters this postseason. So, when Yamamoto gave him four, he had to use his roster. The Phillies have said all week, “Let’s just get to LA’s bullpen.” It just makes you wonder how the Dodgers get through a seven game series and how they can use their starters most effectively. And I agree, Lauren, but I think look, we we saw at 19 the way the Nats did it with Strawber, Sherzer, Corbin, and then a few bullpen guys with Hudson and Dittle. And kind of get the feeling the Dodgers might not have the bullpen they did last year in the playoffs, but to me, the starting pitching is just elite. I mean, I I think you go this playoff stretch and for the Phillies without Zack Wheeler, that’s kind of the difference. You would say the Dodgers got the strongest starting staff. Nick Castiano swing at a miss. Prior to last night with Yamamoto in five postseason games or in four postseason games, the Dodgers had at least six innings from their starters. a drastic difference from a year ago. And it does look like now based on what we’ve seen in Philadelphia in the first two games, Roki Sasaki, who’s been a starter, is the closer now as he nodded a couple of saves. And Chian is a multi-ining reliever with electric stuff. That’s him on top of that mound. Glass now deals a breaking ball fouled off. And you got to remember because of the injuries the Dodgers had this year, the bullpen ended up getting the most innings in baseball. That’s very undgeroder-l like when you think about it. Even though they’ll rely on the postseason heavy, but Dave Roberts kind of said, you know, I got four horses. I got Shehan down there. I’m going to do things a little different this year. Arm tally is what he’s sticking with. He said a swing at Miz. Got him on a slider. A walk and a strikeout to start the inning for Tyler Glass. Now strikeout number five. [Applause] Glass now went an inning and two/3 in game one out of the bullpen knowing it would tee him up for the start in game four if necessary. He didn’t give up a run, but he did exit with some traffic in that game as the Phillies were trying to come back in that one. That was his first relief appearance in seven years. Tyler Glass now back on Saturday in game one. Yeah, it’s kind of like that today, right? He’s got three walks today. So, we talked about his walks being up. has only given up one hit and it’s so hard to score off him. Lefty’s hitting a buck 82 this year. Righty’s 173 and then he gets even better with runners in scoring position. Tyler Glass now 148. You don’t get many opportunities. When you do, you got to try to take advantage. Traded to the Dodgers from the Rays. Ultimately signed to a 5-year deal which he’s in the middle of now. Southern California kid. Went to high school about 30 miles from Dodger Stadium. Hart High School is from Santa Clarita had an elbow injury last year glass now and it knocked him out of the postseason. How frustrating that must have been. So the attitude of I’m here for you Dave Roberts and this team however you can use me with a little context on what he missed out on last year in a World Series run. you understand it better. 32y old right-hander at 68. The one-two runner goes swinging a miss. Throw to second is late. So strikes out, but Kepler steals second base and the Phillies have a runner in scoring position with two away. Yeah, good jump by Kepler here. You know, we haven’t seen him really push that envelope yet today. We talked about it. Steel base Steelers 11 for 11 this year now against Glass. Now, even with a great throwing catcher like Smith top of the order, Trey Turner right off the end of the bat. Turner racing to first. Edmonds throw a good one. And that is the inning. So, Glass now a leadoff walk, a stolen base. Strands of Philly in scoring position. We’re still scoreless. Number 16, Will Smith. [Applause] Now, that’s been the theme in that series. A lot of action in the first inning. Brewers played the Dodgers in that 2018 NLCS. Jackson Cheerio’s 21 years of age, French, and what a postseason career he’s off to in just his second postseason. The Brewers did announce that Freddy Peralta, their ace, will start game four tonight at Wrigley. Matthew Boyd gets the ball for the Cubs. Those are the game one starters. Looking forward to that. Alex FA, Ron Barley, and will have the call there. Been a complete opposite series of ours. No runs early. Yes. in any of our games here for the most part and kind of pitching’s been the dominant factor. Will Smith starts this bottom of the fifth. Bounced into a double play his last time up. Christopher Sanchez just pumping in the strikes right now. He’s got 45 pitches now and he’s only throwing four pitches when behind him. How about that? So, you want to talk about keeping the hitters, you know, guessing on their heels a little bit, that’s how you do it. Well, he’s faced 15 batters. He has been in five 02 counts. And the Dodgers, one of the best lineups in baseball, one of the most dangerous offensive lineups in the game. And yet you look at their their scoring. Been some lowscoring games here. Dodgers won 5-3 in game one, 4-3 in game two. And the Phillies held them to two runs yesterday. That one just misses. Yeah, I was going to laugh what Lauren report earlier talking about the bullpen and say you get to a sevename series, how you deal with that. I said I’m guessing Dave Roberts would hope in two of those games my offense just takes over and it doesn’t really matter, right? That’s what Rob Thompson’s offense did for him last night late, allowing him to sit Don. And I would say Rob Thompson’s ideal formula in this game is to have Sanchez for seven or eight and Don to finish it. Absolutely. He He’s got two guys in Kirkering and Strom that could put out a fire, but I I think you’re right. The way that Sanchez right now is into the fifth at 48 pitches, that’s his hope. Seventh pitch of the atbat to start the fifth though against Will Smith and he pulls that one into the netting as we sit it down to Lauren. Ryan, I was just thinking how Christopher has turned himself into an ace. And he does it with three pitches. It feels like we’re in an age of guys trying to deepen their arsenal. Jeff Sanchez told me if I can get my change up to fall off plane, my slider to go away from lefties, back door to a righty, I don’t feel like I need more pitches. About as good as it gets. I was going to say, Lauren, that means you’re really good. Yeah, I couldn’t agree more. We, you know, you you get people that are always trying to add something and I think for him, he knows how good that sinker is because he can come into righties and go away. It’s almost like two pitches when you’re facing him on that. Pitch number nine of the sequence. What an at bat here by Will Smith and a swing. Yeah, a miss. Smith strikes out. Made him work. Nine pitch battle, but strikeout number four. And look at the location of this pitch. You’ve seen some sinkers away. You’ve seen the change up away. Then what do you do? 98 coming back over the plate. And I mean, as good as Will Smith’s been. And what a at bat at the end. Sanchez was able to get him. One away. Here is Alex Call. Call now has that protective brace on his left ankle and foot. doesn’t normally wear one of those, but he found or took a fast ball in on that back foot. I was going to say, BA, if he goes and hits that back foot again, and that’s, you know what that is? That’s just bad luck. Most of the time against a guy like Sanchez, you’re wearing it there because you’re fouling it off. Yeah. You’re not expecting the back foot to be in any danger. and he dumps that one into right field and Alex Call has a base hit. He’s been on twice and he has been on four times in his four plate appearances against Christopher Sanchez. A nemesis for the big lefty. [Applause] your team, your players, your postseason. You can follow all the postseason action. Download the MLB app, the number one app for live baseball. TK Hernandez with call at first on the ground. Foul. You talk a lot to a lot of big-time pitchers, right, with the lead stuff. Sometimes it’s the guys like Paul that they hate facing the most. guys are willing to kind of shoot the ball the other way, cut their swing down, not have the big swing. Now Sanchez is looking for that big swing where he can go to work on a hitter. Call had an infield hit and a walk in game one against Sanchez. Hit by pitch and a single here in game four. [Applause] PK Hernandez was a big part of the comeback in game one against Christopher Sanchez. is delivered with a two RBI double off the big lefty [Applause] that came in the sixth inning and the inning that Sanchez could not get through in game one after he was just dominant through the first five innings. Kik Hernandez was the last batter he faced this past Saturday in game one. [Applause] [Music] There you go. You finally getting the hitters count right. 2-1. You’re ready to go. And a perfectly located change up on the outer half down. [Applause] Dodgers have a one-out runner at first. Call dancing over there. Fernandez takes a ball. Three and two the count. Kik is the number eight hitter. And even though Shi Otani is a struggling hitter, he is looming. Two batters away right now. See if they put call in motion. First full count of the game for Sanchez. 3-2 and a soft liner caught by Turner. Trey Turner lays out to make the play. Another good defensive gym in this one. And the second out of the inning. Another one of those change ups and Kik hit it off the end of the bat hoping to find a hole, but Turner in the right spot. [Applause] That had a little strobe effect as well. Oh, there’s that ray of light coming through the stands. Turner stuck with it. Two outs now. Here’s Andy Pahes. 27 homers during the regular season. Has been a rough postseason thus far. [Applause] Feel like Pahes would be the opposite of Alex call in that scenario you presented. You just saw that. That’s a big swing right there on a change up into you and low. Sanchez struck about last time up. Ground ball to third. Bow snatches it up. Goes the easy way to second and the inning is over and Christopher Sanchez works around a one out single. Phillies playing good defense. Turner with a diving play in the fifth. And we go to the sixth inning now in game four. We are still scoreless. [Music] Don’t wake me up. Don’t wake me up. Don’t wake me up. Both teams flashing a little leather today in game four. Made some excellent plays. Uniforms dirty. That was TBS Total Motion presented by Progressive. Here we go to inning number six. clipping along here with glass now and Sanchez both delivering on the mound. Tough hitting environment like right now with the talent of the pitchers and the time of day. Kyle Schwarber looks at a strike go by. It’s 0 and two. Just see here you go. Two fast balls right there again and that swung the bat. I just think both these pitchers are using a little bit of this to their advantage. Schwarber two homers yesterday. did have a double in the first and a swing and a miss. He got him on a curve. Seven strikeouts for Tyler Glass now. [Music] Yeah, that’s the pitch that you don’t want to get to as a hitter, right? And because Glass now was able to locate with that fast ball, was able to go to that and get the easy swing and miss. The discrepancy in the velocity is shocking from Glass now with that curve that he could throw 99 100 miles an hour and then spin that curve so hard that it rolls in there 76 77 m an hour to cover have to cover over 20 m an hour a gap there is impressive that’s why that average on that curveball is 104 in the year I mean it just it is it’s it’s elite times do you see a postseason game especially an elimination game where it’s a six inning. No one’s warming up either side. Rice Harper batting with one away. Freddy Freeman will take it to the bag and Glass now with two outs here in the sixth. Glass now has had just the one three up three down inning. However, Phillies have only put a runner in scoring position twice. They did it in the first, got Schwarber over to third. Glassnau got out of it with a strikeout and then Kepler had the walk and the steel in the fifth inning. Glass now got Trey Turner to end that inning. Two up, two down in the six for Alec Bow. [Applause] Holmes reached base the last six times in a row. Four walks, two hits. Walked twice intentionally yesterday. Dodgers wanted to get a lefty lefty matchup with Brandon Marsh. [Applause] Two walks today. One ball, one strike. And hits that one like a bullet to center field. Alec Bow squares it up. Two out single for the Phillies in the sixth. You can tell he’s seeing the ball well right now. Even that first pitch he took for a strike was up. This one, that curve ball. It’s exactly what you want to do right here. Stay right back up the middle. B stays hot. Bone with his fourth hit of this division series. Four for 10 now. Here’s Brandon Marsh. That skips in. Nice play back there by Smith. He’s so good at blocking and back picking and doing all the things necessary to keep the runner in position. Takes great hands to do that, huh? Yes, it does. And when you’re when you’re catching a guy at glass now, too, you got to know he’s going to do that a few times. And I trust he hasn’t Smith to do that. And I’ll defend Will Smith here because his framing numbers are poor compared to the the rest of the league. But the kind of pitchers he has to deal with, how nasty the pitchers he catches are, it’s tough to frame up some pitches when you’ve got the kind of electric stuff the Dodgers staff has. Swinging a miss like that. And it’s a wave at a miss on a glass now. Curve ball and Shien starting to loosen up. He’s been a starter and he’s coming back from Tommy John. So Dave Roberts always gives Shien a little extra time to warm up. Impressive thing for me with glass now today. 12 days since he made his last start. I know he had that little appearance, but sharp for a guy that hadn’t pitched in 12 days. Another swing and miss. Home is not a fast runner and he didn’t want to chance it as that ball got by Smith. Well, and again, when you’re on base right here because of that curveball, you have got to be aggressive. You got to be looking for that dirt ball read. I think Bone saw him kind of shake his head. I think he knew he had a chance to be on second right there. In this game right here, it might come down to one run. Two outs, one and two, the count on Marsh. Got him rings the bell with a fast ball and the inning is over. Tyler Glass now with eight strikeouts. This is the 2025 National League Division Series. It’s presented by Booking.com [Music] to show you how the hitting environments have changed. This was Otani’s first Nevada 319 as you saw. Now just 30 minutes later, the shadows coming in still there with center field in the sun. But for the Dodgers, you feel like they got the part of the lineup up they want right here. And third time through as Otani starts it against Sanchez in a scoreless game. First fast ball, a bullet in there for a strike. He has just bullied his way on these left-handed hitters in both of these starts. It is so impressive what Sanchez has done to this very talented Dodger lineup. Otani just can’t get the bat to it. And that’s what happens as a hitter be a Otani sinking out over the plate. And then what happens painted on the inside on one. Now you kind of go back in that fight mode. So what does Sanchez do with Romeo? Goes a little bit farther in. Now you kind of have them set up. You can either go change up low or you can try to quer one a two seamer away right here and freeze him. See what it goes with. No balls, two strikes. Otani’s 0 for two and a strikeout. Sanchez to his signature pitch, the change up. Otani’s 0 for three and now one for 17 in this series. Sanchez opens up the sixth inning with a K. I mean, that’s just we’re seeing Glass now do it to the Phillies hitters. We’re seeing Sanchez do it to the Dodgers hitters. I mean, that’s just three perfectly executed pitchers. gets one of the best hitters in the game. Five Ks for Sanchez. Here’s Mookie Betts. Takes a first pitch strike. That’s 0 for two with a K and a ground out. Rolled out to first base. Last time up and Muki Bats dumps one into left field to base head. He was ready for that change up and the Dodgers have a hint and a man on with one out in the sixth. Well, Muki, we talked about it somewhat of a lost year for him. But what happens end of the season starts coming DA since September 6. Last 25 games, he’s hitting 330 with 14 extra base hits and 24 RBI’s and gets it started for the Dodgers. speed at first base. Tay Oscar Hernandez lets it fly on the first one on the foul ball. [Applause] Comes out first pitch change up on Hernandez. And another guy Sanchez has been relentless on right here is Tay Oscar with that change up. Philly set up to turn two here. the 01 and back in there with a fast ball and it’s 0 and2 on Tasks Hernandez. [Applause] Betts did not run often this year. Just eight stolen bases in the regular season. He’s been a great base stealer throughout his career. And there he goes. And the O2, a big chopper foul. Well, the big moment in game one. Even though Sanchez had dominated Tayaska Hernandez, he finally got a matchup to his favor and he launched one out. A three-run home run that flipped the scoreboard in game one. Hernandez with a game-winning home run. That came in the seventh inning. Came with two outs. One of the biggest swings of the bat in this series thus far. And he shoots one into right field. A base hit. Professional piece of hitting by Teosscar Hernandez. Backto back singles for the Dodgers. Two on with one out. Well, watch this right here by Sanchez. He does the high leg kick this time to try to keep betts at first base. We have not seen him do that yet. And you can see that sinker just stays up a little bit. And Hernandez, I think, finally probably talked to Alex Call maybe and said, “How do you hit this?” That is the humble approach. Took the big swing on his first offering. shortens up, plays a little pepper, and now the Dodgers are set up with two on and Freddy Freeman coming up. [Music] I can’t hear you Dodger fans. I can’t hear you. [Applause] It was the third time through in game one that did in Sanchez couldn’t get out of that sixth inning. Two on, one out and Freddy Freeman steps in. Freeman had a single in the second inning. [Applause] challenged him with a fast ball. Caleb Coffin, Philly’s pitching coach on the phone. Bullpen active. Big opportunity for the Dodgers up 2-1 in this best of five series. The 01. Freeman ground ball. Sto backhands it. shovels it to Turner. They get the out. Good play by Scott to Turner. Out number two in the inning. And the runners are at first and third now for Tommy Edmond. Here comes that sinker in on the Freddy. Tim Wear kind of took right there and it’s good job by T Oscar Hernandez going in hard not really letting Trey Turner get a throwing lane. keep this inning alive. Could have been an awkward little flip there. So did a nice job. Just left it out for Turner. An easy opportunity for him. Ryan Kerring is loosening in the pin. Game on the line right now though for Christopher Sanchez. First and third. Edmond takes the first pitch inside. [Applause] Edmond first ball swinging in the second inning. He lined out, got robbed of a hit by Kepler and then he grounded out last time up. [Applause] [Music] The National League Championship Series MVP from a year ago. He has been clutch. [Applause] One ball, one strike on Tommy Edmond. Little pop up. Foul grounds. Harper is over. Can’t reach it. Just out of his glove reach and the count is one and two. Tough play for Harper, too, because it was not high enough in the air. He didn’t really know exactly where he was. Right. If that ball’s higher, you get over there, you get to feel it, you can really reach it. You know, Edmond’s a guy that’s gotten a lot of big hits. 225 on the year, but runners in scoring position 303. Been a gamer in the postseason as well. One ball, two strikes a count on Edmond. Two outs in the inning. Tommy Edmond is playing in his 21st game as a Dodger in the postseason. and his postseason batting average as a Dodger is 316 with four homers and 16 RBI’s in those 20 games. See what Sanchez has for him. The one two and that one just missed. There aren’t many who are taking that change up. Edmund gets himself in a two- two count with it. Sanchez has been heavy on the change up to Edmond right here. Will Smith do next? 2-2 with two outs. He has six pitches now, five change ups, one sinker. Kik Hernandez hit his double in game one. It was that slider, his third best pitch. See if he comes back with that change or tries to freeze him with that sinker. What a battle here. Dodgers threaten. Runners at the corners. Another 2-2. Edmond. Little tapper. Sanchez got to make the play. Sets throws in time and the inning is over. Christopher Sanchez making the big pitches when he needed to. We are still scoreless. We are through six. To the seventh we go in game four. What a ball game. [Music] Tyler Glass now is out. But what an impressive start. He goes six strong for the Los Angeles Dodgers. He strikes out eight. Only two hits and hugs all the way around. And now Dave Roberts is going to go to his bullpen. TBS Total Motion presented by Progressive. And we see Imit Sheen taking over here for LA. Continuing the theme of starting pitchers, turned relievers making up the bullpen now for Dave Roberts. He’s got it right where he wants Shehan and then of course Sasaki after him. We saw the NL wild card. He struggled a little bit first postseason appearance and then the other night Philly in game two. He was pretty good. Two innings, two hits, one run. So I think Dave Roberts feels getting those nerves out and being a lot more relaxed. JT Romeo has had a terrific division series. 0 for two today. Did have a line out in the second, then hit a hot ground ball in the fourth. So he’s seeing it well and swinging it well. Homerred here last night. Has had a double, a triple, and a homer in this division series. Shia has great stuff coming back from Tommy John surgery. Right off the end of the bat that is going to fall a base hit. JT Realm Muto leadoff single in the seventh inning. Not how it usually happens. He’s ripped two balls off glass now. Only one to really do it. And then this one right here. He gets a slider off the end of the bat. just kind of throws it out there to center field. Start things off here in the seventh. Brings up Max Kepler. Now Shan’s got that elite fast ball about 96 97, but his slider change up combo, it’s really been his two pitches that have gotten the strikeouts this year. didn’t return to the active roster until the middle of June after Tommy John surgery just 25 years of age. He posted a 282 erra this year and it was how he finished that really got the Dodgers and Dave Roberts thinking about a multi-ining weapon out of the bullpen and an embarrassment of riches in that starting rotation. Sheen only allowed four earned runs in his final five starts of the regular season. Six games in five starts and he zips that one in at 96. That’s one thing the Dodgers do a great job. EA they obviously have the money to go out and get the Blake Snells glass now. But EMTT sixth round in the 2021 drafts like they have developed this kid. Here’s the one two and Kepler stays alive. We had a nice visit with EMTT during the regular season. He joined us on a headset in the middle of an inning and he this was the day before his comeback in June. He talked about all the things that he learned while he was away from the game recovering. Just watching the game, you know, you get in the wheel as a rookie, it comes fast at you. He’s got all this talent, all this praise coming his way. Not that you ever want to have an injury, but he did use that time away while he was recovering to see the game and experience the game in a different way and says he felt like he’s going to be a much better pitcher. Now, how many times you hear the Hall of Famers and greatest say, you know how you you get better, you watch the game. Watch what other guys do. He’s done that. Two-2 to Max Kepler. Phillies have a lead man on in real Mutoo. Kepler on the ground. Freeman. Oh, to second out there and Sheen missed it. And I think it goes in the dugout. It does. That was not a bad throw from Betts. Shien was crashing over trying to get his foot on the bag and make the play. And that’s going to put Kepler at second base. Three to six on the put out of Real Muto, but an opportunity missed here for Shien. See Muki made it. Oh yeah, that’s He was trying to find the bag. That’s the issue. That was a fine throw by Mooki and it cost him an extra base here. He was not going to get the out because he did not have a foot on the bag. but because the throw gets away and goes into the dugout. Kepler over to second base. Be an error on Sheen. That puts Kepler into scoring position now with one away. [Applause] Phillies in their second consecutive elimination game. 8-2 win last night. Now they have the go-ahead runner at second base, Nick Castanos. Did he go? He did not, says Jim Wolf. Arms looking good like usual. Close one. Yeah. jammed him, fouled it away. One and one the count. Cast a very free swinger at the plate. Had a big hit in game two to help the Phillies mount a comeback. Had a two RBI double and so far that’s been his only hit. He’s one for 13. Oh, wave and a miss. Slider from Sheen. Castiano’s missed it by a mile and it’s one and two now. [Applause] Hard one. Fair ball hits the line and in to score is Kepler. On his way to second goes Castillianos. He’s in there. It’s a double. The Phillies have grabbed the lead here in game four. Castanos with a two strike double. It just hit the paint down the left field line. [Applause] Well, mistake locationwise. He’s trying to get that ball up on Castanos and he turns it right inside the line. You think about it, BA Casianos now two for 14 this postseason, but both hits have been huge doubles and driving in two in game two and this one right here to give the Phillies the one- nothing lead. Still one out. Castianos at second. Now Bryson Storike [Applause] first in the seventh inning of this game. Stodd is 0 for two, hitting number nine in the batting order. Got the big three coming up next. Big swing there by Scott. It’s one and one. Well, that error is looming large right now. Even if he doesn’t get the out at first on that ground ball and in most cases, it’s a tough play, but that’s a 361 double play. Most of the time Sheen couldn’t get there in time. Like I said, he was trying to show that replay. He’s trying to find his foot on the bag. And I think more than that though, you got to know I got it. No matter what, I got to catch the ball. Bond getting ready. The lefty and the Dodger bullpen. Phillies have silenced this crowd. Two and one to stop. Swing and a miss. Change up. When he gets those lefties, those change ups are so good. hitters hitting 146 off it. Two and two the count. Castiano slow runner at second. That’s inside. Nice playback there by Smith. Three and two the countdown. Keeps a runner off third base. It’s a great play, huh? Doesn’t show up in the No, because score card, but that’s a big one. Well, it totally changes. That ball gets back. Now the infield’s coming in here on a 3-2 pitch. Phillies have grabbed the lead in the seventh. Three and two and Stodd fouls it away. [Applause] Tough battle here with the number nine hitter. Stock two hits in the series, two out of nine. He’s 0 for two today with a strikeout. Phillies have two hits in the inning against Shien. [Applause] [Applause] They’ve seen their team win two road games, but the Phillies answered with a road win last night and now a late lead. Full count, another 3-2 and Sto in the air left center. got a little bit of carry. Pah makes the play on the track. Castanos retreats to second base. Two outs in this seventh inning. And to the top of the order we go. Vanda Pharmaceuticals innovate in the service of people’s pursuit of happiness. So Sheen with two away now and it’ll be Trey Turner. 0 for three today. All those at bats against glass. Now the batting champion in the NL first ball swinging. He fouls it away. Now Turner is in hack mode today. He got those three hits. We talked about it yesterday and you can tell seeing good but seeing the ball well. Go back here. That’s kind of the play that’s looming large right now. The ball goes in the dugout and puts Kepler at second. Oh, and to the count. In a game like this, could be one mistake, one defensive miscue that changes everything. Dodger fans imploring their young hurler to get through this seventh inning. And Turner fouls it away. Turner, one of the tougher hitters with two strikes in the league. He missed most of the month of September. Hamstring injury. He’s got four hits in this division series. Big pitch. 0 and2 the count. Like to see him expand a little bit right here. You know, we talked about the two strike hit by Castianos trying to go up. Got too much of the plate. Turner, as you said, can cover a lot of ground right here. And you’re throwing a lot of two strike pitches in the zone for him. Another 02 and he got him. A strike out. Good call, French. He expanded and he got the swing. A costly error. Sheen couldn’t get to the bag to get to. And then Castanos makes him pay with an RBI double. One to nothing Phillies. Coming up next, it is game four at Wrigley Field. Brewers a win away from a ticket to the NLCS. Alex FA, Ron Darling, Lauren Jabar will have the call for you. Tomorrow on Fox, it is Tigers and Mariners and a winner go home game five. Here we go. And Christopher Sanchez is back on the mound now pitching with a lead. It’s one- nothing Phillies. Sanchez has Will Smith, Alex Cole, and Kik Hernandez scheduled to hit in there and it’s 02. You know how good Sanchez has been. 22 of 24 first pitch strikes and 802 counts on the attack getting himself in pitchers counts unafraid. Look at that discrepancy there. 65 strikes in his 82 pitches. That is a massive number. Smith on the ground gloved by Turner. He spins. He throws and it is in time. Wow, what a play. Trey Turner. The former Dodger makes the play on Will Smith for out number one of this seventh inning. I tell you, you talked about the defense right here. Turner throwing a strike over there, too. Look, Will Smith can run. He’s a catcher that he’s got a little bit of wheels on him. And Turner, I mean, just gets him and saves a huge huge hit to start the seventh for for the Dodgers. One away in this seventh inning for Alex Call. Alex Call hit by a pitch in the third. He’s singled to right in the fifth. got four plate appearances against Sanchez. Sanchez has not retired him in two games. There’s not many guys that could boast those numbers. [Applause] Was a surprise starter in left field in game one. Dave Roberts runs it back here in game four. You know, everybody’s always got one or two of those guys. And you would think it’s, you know, a big right-handed power guy, but Paul, you can even tell laying off those two change ups right there. Those are pitches we’ve seen the Dodgers swing at all day today. Two and one. Big swing. 2-2 the countdown. Well, the formula for Rob Thompson gets Sanchez through seven and then Yoan Duran, one of the more dominant closers in the game. Don is preparing [Music] now. Thompson and his pitching coach Caleb Cam. [Applause] Two balls, two strikes on call. And that one just missed. Real Mutil wanted it. Paul got a gift. Wow. [Music] Look at that ball moving back over the plate at 97. Sanchez has had a few of those today he thought were strikes. Comes right back and now he walks Alex Call, nemesis number one. call aboard for the third time and he carries the tying run. It’ll bring up Kik Hernandez now. Kiki Hernandez, the man who has had so many great October. He steps into the spotlight once again here in the seventh inning. Team Reich fast ball in there to get ahead again all day long. Sanchez has been ahead in the count. Philly set up for a double play here with one away. [Applause] See now really trying to pour this sinker in on these ridies right here. Not letting them get extended. seen him throw a lot more of those than change ups. Ball gets away. They’ll reset it here. High drama here in game four. Road team has won every game. The Phillies just grabbed the lead off of Nick Castiano’s two strike double that scored Max Kepler. Kepler was moved to second on an error by the pitcher Shien. A defensive breakdown that led to the run. One ball, one strike. Two and one to count. [Music] You would think Sanchez has two more hitters. He does have Otani in the hold right now. Two and one in. Three balls in a strike. He’s not missing by much. But now Hernandez in the favorable count. Number nine hitter Pah do next. [Applause] Here he comes. Swing and a miss. Went to his bread and butter. The change up. What a pitch. Lawrence said it earlier. He feels like he can throw that at any time he wants. Cooked four sinkers in a row to Hernandez and then dropped that pitch. And you got to believe if he’s going to throw a 3-1, he’s going to throw a 3-2. [Applause] pitch of the game for Sanchez right now. And it’s a hot shot through a base hit. Kik Hernandez got the change up. Did not miss it. And the Dodgers have runners at first and second with one away. And decision time for Rob Thompson. He will waste no more time. [Applause] went back to his signature pitch and the man who has delivered so many times in the month of October strikes again. Kik Hernandez into the line for Christopher Sanchez. He pitched beautifully, but he will exit with two runners out there. And here comes Don. [Music] [Applause] is presented by authority of the office of the commissioner of baseball and may not be reproduced or retransmitted in any form and the accounts and descriptions of this game may not be disseminated without express written consent. Let’s bring you inside the booth presented by AT&T. Brian Anderson with Jeff Franor. Every manager will tell you in the postseason, the closer comes in not necessarily when there’s a technical save situation, but when the game is on the line, and this is one of those moments. Your season’s on the line here for them. So, they’re bringing their trade line acquisition. And and you know what? It’s the right move right here. Look, Christopher Sanchez pitched a great game. Six and a third. We tal about only five hits. The change up again, outstanding. But this is that moment right here that you know you have to shut this down. Your team just got you the lead. and they’re going to their big righty. Got him from the Minnesota Twins. 32 saves this year combined between Minnesota and Philadelphia is one of the big pieces at the trade deadline. Justin Dean, speedy center fielder is going to pinch run for Alex Cole. He carries the tying run. Andy Pahes is the batter. One out and the Dodgers seventh with two on and Don fires a strike in with a fast ball. He’s got plenty more where that came from. Obe that was a split. You see 97 I know and you think fast ball but that is a split at 97 and that’s what that man features. The 01 bouncing ball foul. Well, Rob Thompson said he wouldn’t hesitate to use Don for multiple innings. And it also means he’s not necessarily committed to use Don in the ninth. I I don’t know how a closer gets eight out. Bullpen’s empty for now. I think like anything, you you have Pah coming up and you got Otani and you feel like this is where you got to shut it down. Give your offense a chance to try to expand. was up two times last night but never entered the game. Pah laid on it 100 mph fast ball and it’s 0 and two. Don did not pitch in multiple innings as a Philly but he did as a twin and the last time he did that was here at Dodger Stadium back in July. Two on, one out. Runners go and PZ fouls it back. I’ll tell you what, Justin Dean had been literally timing him up every chance he got right there. And look, closers are not the best at holding runners on. We all know that. But you got to be able to take a look a little bit in this situation. Dean carries the tying run. Kik Hernandez the go-ahead run over at it first. Shoi do next. I have a pitchcom situation here. That’s the transmitter in his hand. That piece goes in the brim of the cap. And then you can hear the call. Make baseball come alive when you bet live this season with FanDuel. [Music] No balls, two strikes on Andy Pahes, number nine hitter for the Dodgers and a new pitchcom receiver for Yan Duron. Those two runners belong to Sanchez. Oh, and to the count. Long pause. Runner stay put. PZ bouncing ball. Big chopper over to Harper. He’ll go to the bag. He’ll take the shore out. He thought for a moment about throwing a second, but that’s the shore out. Now you got a decision to make. You got Otani coming up to the plate. I know he’s 1 for 17 with 8Ks this postseason. And this will be the sign of ultimate respect right here. And they’re going to put him on. Can’t blame him. No. There is some history, too. Remember that game I told you about in July when Don was a twin and he went multiple innings. Otani hit a two-run homer off Duron in that game. I get it. And like you said, you can look at the numbers all you want, but I got to tell you right here, I agree with Rob Thompson. So it puts Mookie Betts on center stage. Base is loaded. Two outs. Dodgers down one- nothing. That splitter was 99 miles an hour. [Applause] I think the adrenaline’s not coursing through his veins right now. Here’s the one. [Applause] Two balls in those strikes on Betts. Mookie Betts has faced around four times. He’s 0 for four. Hitters count. Here he comes and a swing and a miss. Bets has long been one of the great high velocity hitters in the game. Been an MVP. Had a hit last time up to left. Don deals and bets takes a ball. Three and one the count. Nowhere to put him. Does he dare throw the splitter and one, two outs and Betts fouls it back with a fast ball. That’s the thing when you put Otani on, right, there’s no room for error. 22 and a third innings for Don. Only three walks as a Philly. So Rob Thompson trusting his riding. I mean, you got to come heat here, right? Let’s see what he goes with. High stress pitches, full count, two outs, runner started up, and it is ball four and this game is tied. It’s a bases loaded walk. [Applause] That run belongs to Sanchez and the presence of Otani despite being 1 for 17 in this series. Two outs, bases loaded, still to Oscar Hernandez. [Applause] Hernandez is the Dodgers RBI leader this postseason. He’s driven in nine. He’s had three homers this postseason. A ball and no strikes. Yes. One and one to count. Tied him up with a big fast ball. He let him out too. That was ball two right there. Oh, 101 about 6 in up and he tried to check it there at the end. You can see he knew he had swung at the ball. [Applause] Count is even. Go ahead and run at third base. Hernandez fouls it back. Chased another high one. The count one and two. In the seventh inning of game one, Tayaska Hernandez with two outs hit a three-run home run. Dodgers were trailing after the home run. They had the lead and they held it for a game one win. Same spot. The one-two and he struck him out. Got him with a curve. Don bends a little but he doesn’t break. The Dodgers score. This game is tied but Don strands. The base is loaded. [Music] scored the tying run. He stays into play center. Pahz with his strong throwing arm is now in left. And it is Roki Sasaki in this game in the eighth. And he will face Kyle Schwarber, Bryce Harper, and Alec Balm. And right into the fire goes Sasaki. Well, Dave Roberts told us today, I’m not going to be shy to use them two times or for two innings. And this is kind of that wheelhouse now. Eighth and ninth and part of the order. Kyle Schwarber. Highf fly ball to right center. Going to hang up there for Hernandez. And a big out for Sasaki to start it. Make your voice heard. You can vote now to select the 2025 AllMLB team. Your chance to be a part of history and honor this season’s top performers. mlb.com/allmlb for details. There’s play manager on the other end. Frenchie Don is forced into the game in the seventh. Unlikely he would finish the game. He is certainly going back out for the eighth. Yeah, I I think at that point and Rob Thompson kind of told us that was the plan last night. If he had to come in in the seventh, he’d have to find somebody, which we figure is going to be Kirkering or Strom, to pitch the ninth. He’ll come back out for that eighth. Bryce Harper and the count is 0 and2. Sasaki’s been an incredible story. Just 23 years of age, shoulder injuries, poor performance, been down in the minor leagues. and he has emerged in the month of September healthy and a weapon in the bullpen. [Applause] Even by the fact of Bryce Harper offering at that split shows you the movement on his pitch. Again, it’s such a different split than a lot of guys. You know, it doesn’t it’s not like Bronze where it’s 97 and moving a little bit. His really tumbles and drops. He’s had a a full makeover mechanically. Jeff Passen wrote a terrific story on ESPN.com about how the Dodgers did the deep dive trying to get him more stable on his backside. He had a shoulder impingement and almost a reworking of his mechanics. He missed four and a half months a big league action. Harper pops it up. Kik Hernandez is out. Pahes and Hernandez. And it’s Kik who makes the play. Two outs in the inning. [Applause] You can see Pahz coming in screaming, “I got it. I got it.” Got a tough play for Hernandez, but he was camped under it. And now it’s Alec Bow with two away. Up the middle right there. Tali Edmond. The throw is a good one. And it’s a three up, three down for Roki Sasaki. An emerging star has locked down the back of that bullpen for now. [Applause] Betting odds from DraftKings Sportsbook. You can download the DraftKings Sportsbook app. Place your bets live today. Sign up with promo code heat. What a game. We’re tied at one. The pitching has dominated. Phillies get a run on a Castiano’s two strike RBI double in the seventh. And then the Dodgers score on a Muki Betts bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh. As Freddy Freeman starts it against Yan Duran takes strike one on the inside corner. Johan Duran’s first bases loaded walk in his career. Also, postseason does crazy things to you. And you wouldn’t see him in the seventh inning if it wasn’t the postseason. He has pitched twice in this division series, but it has been almost tuneup outings with the Phillies down in games. First time he had entered a game with the Phillies in front and that was evaporated. That’s a strike at the top of the zone. One and two the count. [Applause] Got him. Blows him away. 100 mph fast ball. And out number one here in the eighth. Just beats him to the spot. Number 25. Let’s say he finishes this inning. Gets the next two guys. He’s got 26 pitches. Maybe he comes back out. I don’t know. Yeah. On the ground. Stopped. Well, that’ll make the decision a lot easier if he can get through this eighth quickly. And there are two quick outs in this eighth. Wear what the players are wearing on field during the postseason. Check out the largest selection of authentic jerseys, caps, hoodies, tees, and more. mlbshop.com for your favorite postseason gear. Matt Stum is the lefty in the bullpen. The other side only threw eight pitches. So, bottom of the eighth in a 1-1 game. Dodgers up 2-1 in this best of five series. The Dodgers are the defending champs trying to punch their ticket to the NLCS with a win today. Philly is hoping to extend this series and get back home and take advantage of that home field advantage by virtue of the second best record in the National League this year. Game five, if necessary, would be Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park. [Applause] [Music] One ball, one strike on Will Smith. One and two the count. The big question if he gets out of the is going to be what’s what’s a double sit down look like? Surely he’s never done that in his career. Good call. Lot of decisions to be made here. Here’s the ninth pitch of the inning and it’s a swing and a Smith strikes out and Johan Don has at least opened up the option to bring him back for the ninth. Phillies are coming up in the ninth in a 1-1 game. It is Marsh, Real Muto, and Kepler. The 2025 NLDS is presented by Booking.com. [Music] in that Philly’s dugout. High fives from Don. We’ll keep an eye on him. We’ll keep an eye on that Philly bullpen. Is he coming back out for the night? We shall see. Sasaki is back out for the ninth and first ball swinging. And Brandon Marsh is retired. Sasaki is mowing through the Phillies batting order. His fourth batter faced. He has retired all four. and he has done it efficiently. I tell you, nobody wants to get behind and see that split. So, they’re all trying to get there. And the the location on these fast balls are elite. That one to Marsh right there, painted on the inside corner and jammed them. [Applause] JT Realm Mutoo uses his lone timeout before he even steps in the box. Sometimes that’s a signal that he’s in ambush mode. doesn’t plan on being around in the count very long. He’s had a great division series. Had a hit his last time up. Homer last night. And did he go? They will ask. He did. Unable to check his swing. Well, he was in ambush mode until he realized the splitter was coming. Another [Music] defensive hack and it’s 0 and2. Sasaki has thrown 11 pitches. He’s thrown nine strikes. And he eats alive Real Muto right on the knuckles. I think just two, three weeks ago to see Matt Stum down in the bullpen getting ready. Dodgers didn’t know who their closer was going to be. That looks like a sign of Der. I told you two up downs is a lot to ask a pitcher. Yeah, not necessarily the pitches, but sitting down and getting back up twice. Closers don’t do that very often. There’s a ball. One and two. count. [Applause] Sasaki never had a save opportunity in his career. And he strikes out Real Muto. Blows him away with a fast ball at 100 miles an hour. It’s unbelievable. Three splitters in a row. 88 all coming in and then just paints you a hundred away. There’s not a whole lot you can do right there. Tip your cap. Saki saved game one. [Music] Came in at a 5-3 game. Had a hit allowed and a strikeout through 11 pitches. Came on, got the last out of game two. He threw just two pitches. Earned the save in game two in Philadelphia. And he is just a striketh throwing machine right now. One ball, one strike on Max Kepler. Good chance you’ll see Max Muny lead off for the Dodgers in the bottom of the ninth. Then Kik Hernandez then Andy Pahes. [Applause] Sasaki deals Kepler on the ground. Foul. A ball and two strikes. Here’s [Applause] a one, two. Kepler pops it up. Hernandez wants it. He’s got it. And rookie Sasaki. Six up, six down. About as efficient as you can do it. Don is out. Stum is in. Wheels in motion for the bottom of the ninth in a 1-1 game. The theater here at Dodger Stadium in game four. It’s a 1-1 game. We go to the bottom of the ninth. You saw Max Muny. He’ll pinch it and it’s going to be Matt Stum out of the Philadelphia bullpen. I said at the second up down right here I think is just a lot for Don and so they’re going to Strong who’s had a great year. Strong gave up the home run to Tioska Hernandez in game one. It’s a chance at redemption here as my big swing and a miss on a high fast ball. Roi Sasaki for the Dodgers. Six up, six down. He has been a starter. There’s a chance he could come back out for the 10th. If the Dodgers don’t score here, Monty fly ball into center field. Backing up on it is Marsh and he’s got it for the out. Out number one. Tell you what, looking at the bullpen down there for the Dodgers, I don’t think there’s any if you might start tossing, but 18 pitches, only two innings. Kirkering is loosening for the Phillies. Start drifting in the matchup zone for Philadelphia right now once you’re past the wrong. Yeah, you got Kirk Stro’s got the next three hitters in a row. He’s got Hernandez, he’s got Pah, and he’s got Otani. And then you would think that’s the rookie bets range. Kik Hernandez. Thank you. [Music] Had a key hit in the seventh. A single that followed the Alex call walk. Spinner in there for a strike. Good pitch. One ball, one strike. And he’s got reverse split strong 233 verse lefties. 196 against that righties. And it’s because of that slider that kind of slows up and he can get in on righties and the sinker going away. Strong has pitched in some big moments for the Phillies. Hernandez trying to win it with one swing of the bat. One and two the count. We saw Stum close out a division series against Atlanta two years ago. One ball, two strikes. Number eight hitter Kik Hernandez. Here comes Stum. Count stays at one and two. Strong mad right there. Missed his spot. Saki is not even taking his glove off. I mean, he’s ready to pitch right now. [Music] Do it again. Another one-two pitch and a swing and a miss. Strong goes upstairs with a fast ball. Two up and two down. First strike out for Matt Stum and an out away from sending this game forward to extra innings. Great pitch selection right here. He’s not going to overpower you with that fast ball, but went up in the zone and climbed it with the two strikes and got Hernandez chase. Andy Pahes now with two away in the ninth. [Applause] Aes 27 homers during the regular season. Big power bat. It has been a struggle this postseason. However, 0 for three today and he’s down 02 to Stum. Oh, he just missed a slider. Hung in the middle of the plate. [Music] Pes has big thunder in his bat. Stum trying to send us two extra innings here. 02 pitch. Had a good swing. He fouls it back. Stum’s upset. He didn’t like the location of that pitch. You know the bat before with that fast ball. He was trying to elevate that again. He missed to Kik Hernandez. Kik fouled it off. He finally got to that top part of the zone. See if he tries to do that again. [Applause] Do it again. Another 02. Strong deals and a fly ball into left. Got jammed a little. Coming on is Kepler. And Matt Stum does the job in game four. He retires the Dodgers in order. It sends us to extra innings. [Music] window. Changes for the Dodgers as we go to the 10th. Max Monio Penet stays in to play third. That moves Kik Hernandez to left. Andy Pahes back to center field where he started. And rookie Sasaki is back on the mound. He’ll start his third inning. Frenchie has been very efficient in this one. He’s thrown just 18 pitches to get through six consecutive outs. He is just pouring strikes right now. Whether it’s that fast ball or splitter fast everybody’s laid splitter, they’re just so out in front. Nick Castanos, who drove in the lone Philly run in the seventh inning, will lead off takes a first pitch down and away. Borderline pitch that went Castiano Sway. Different rule in the postseason than the regular season. No automatic runner at second base. And you’ve come to the right spot for your extra inning announcers. Frenchie and I called an 18 inning extra inning game a few years ago in Seattle. Got some experience. But as you see Bond loosing, I I would tell you the theme in that game and it continues on. There are a lot of hitters trying to hit the long trying to hit the long ball. I think you saw that last inning. Think about Kik against Sanchez and then that inning got the big swing. Everybody wants to do it, right? Castillianos down to the count of ball in two strikes. [Applause] Activity in both bullpens. That’s the game two starter for the Phillies. Jesus Lazardo, the hardthrowing lefty. He is available. If he pitches today and they get to game five, you’d probably see Nola start game five. [Applause] Had a good cut. Castiano still down a ball in two strikes. Yeah, at this point the you got you got no choice. I mean, it’s Rob Thompson would rather have him for five, but knows the only way to get back to Philly. Maybe bring his game two starter in. Sasaki deals a one, two. Cast on the ground. They had a man right there. Perfectly positioned. Muny with a strong throw. Chunk caught up to the analytics team. Monty there playing no doubles and Castanos is out number one and it’s seven in a row for Sasaki. Bryson. Yeah, good job right there knowing with that splitter. Got Castanos out in front. Hit it pretty hard though. With a nice play brings up Bryson Stock. Dodgers played a famous extra inning game in the World Series last year against the Yankees. That was game one. Phillies had a World Sering game in a World Series as well in 22 also in game one against Houston. Phillies won that game. Of course, the Dodgers won game one. [Applause] Freddy Freeman, that dramatic walk-off slam. See, that’s the thing. You see face right there, right? You felt like you got the pitch to hit and you’re just a tick late on it. Now you got to go into grind mode. You got 99 to 100 moving and you got that split. [Music] Sasaki deals badly. Roki Sasaki stepping into that late game leverage roll. Two and two. Stodd spoils another one. Here’s [Applause] another 2-2 Scott. Did he go? He did. It’s a strike out for Sasaki. [Applause] cannot overstate how Sasaki’s impact right now changes everything for the Dodgers. So many concerns and questions about their bullpen and Sasaki is eliminating all of that right now. Just look at all that movement. Eight up and eight down. Turner wave and a miss on a splitter. [Applause] After that double by Casianos, Dodgers now have retired the last 10 in a row for the Phillies. Just missed two balls in a strike. [Applause] Trey Turner is 0 for four. Had three hits last night. Hits in his final three at bats. Kyle Schwarber is due next. Turner trying to get him a swing here in this 10th inning. The 3-1. Turner a swing and a miss. Full countdown. Tripledigit fast ball from Sasaki. Turner into right field and Hernandez makes the play. Inning is over. One, two, three for Sasaki. Nine in a row for Roki. We go to the bottom of the 10th. Otani Betts and Teao Hernandez coming up part of the lineup. The Dodgers can’t wait to get to the plate here in the bottom of the 10th. Show Otani will lead off. Mookie bets to follow. Then Teasa Hernandez and it is Rob Thompson who’s gone with a starter turn reliever today in Jesus Lazardo. First time in four years he’s pitched out of the bullpen. Talk about the postseason ba and these moments like this you kind of go to what you’re going and the strength of what the Phillies have done have been their starting pitchers and so right here Rob Thompson’s going to that strength. Lazardo great in game two but has not pitched out of the bullpen as you said since 21. [Music] [Applause] Bottom of the 10th in a 1-1 game. Dodgers up 2-1 in this series and Otari a mighty hack. He chased one. Rosardo has an electric arm himself. We saw him start game two. He pitched beautifully in game two. Quickly 0 and two. This is that lane for the Dodgers right here. You have your guys up on the other side. If you’re the Phillies, if you’re out Thompson, if we can get through this inning, we have Schwarber Harper Bulma. And there is activity in the Dodger bullpen right now. But the Phillies survive to the 11th. 0 and2 the count on Otani and a cold strike three. Lousardo just carves him up. Strikes Otani out on three pitches. All perfectly placed. One away in the 10th. Incredible. I mean, the one concern you’d have for a guy who hadn’t pitched in relief in four years would be command coming into this moment. And Lazardo’s coming just pouring in the strikes. He’s four for four. Muki bets. He’s laid on it right down the middle, but 98 lion all five pitches so far strikes for Lazardo. Remember with Otani, it started off with that sinker in which was a ball first pitch and he got him to kind of expand and froze him. Oh, and two, the count to Bets. Dodgers got Alex Vessia warming up in their bullpen. If the Phillies can get to the 11th, Schwber would lead off. Shorer, Harper, and Bone duo. Jesus Lazardo a one-two and bats in the air to center field. Marsh eases in routine play for him and two up and two down for Lazardo. The thing right is be you got to get to game five if you’re Philly. So now with Lazardo in the ball game you know you kind of feel like he can go three innings kind of what you saw with Sasaki on the other side. Well, the man who’s hit a lot of big homers for the Dodgers, Tayasca Hernandez, as he looks at one go by and it’s a strike. Rosardo looks automatic right now. Eight pitches, seven of them for strikes. Hernandez with huge power, especially to the opposite field. One ball, one strike. Actually, three out of his four home runs this postseason are to that right center field area. [Applause] Nasty sweeper by her by Lazardo. [Applause] [Music] One and two the count. Here comes Lousardo. Hernandez. Did he go? And yes, he did. It’s a strikeout. Jesus. Lousardo. Three up, three down, two strikeouts. He pours through Otani, Bett, and Hernandez. Impressive. To the 11th we go. What a game. All tied at one in game four. The big boppers coming up. Schwarber Harper and Alec Bol [Music] way out of here. How far will it fly? My goodness. A tape measure shot. That is one of the biggest bombs you will ever see. It’s another bomb. Kyle Swarmer has done it again. blind. Now the Phillies right where they want to be in the batting order with Kyle Schwarber who hit two homers in last night’s 8-2 Phillies win. That’s what got the Phillies to this game four. Dave Roberts going to go to his bullpin now. Sasaki goes three strong innings, retires nine in a row. And now it’s going to be Alex Vesia on the pitch. and his fifth appearance this postseason. Two in the wild card and two here in the NLDS both up in Philly. Got to watch this first pitch with Kyle Schwarber. He’s always ready. And that one is a called strike and Schwarber is upset about that. [Applause] Look tall. Vessia got the call. Talk about everybody going to launch mode. We talked about the Dodgers have retired the last 11 Phillies hitters and the Phillies have retired the last 10 Dodgers hitters. Not to mention not a walk, not a nothing. The quality of pitcher that is on the mound. Yeah, it’s true. Don D to Strom and then Lardo. Little jam shot. Tommy Edmond going to shovel it out of his glove and Schwarber is retired out number one. [Music] No problem. Practice that all the time. Tommy Edmond probably rather do that than throw it right now. One away from Bryce Harper. Still chasing his first World Series title. He is delivered some big moments in the postseason. [Applause] Harper hit 27 homers in the regular year. had an OPS over 840. [Applause] Two balls, no strikes, and that one’s outside. Harper not budging. And it’s three and0 to Bryce Harper. Yeah, Bessie wanting that pitch, but that’s a good bit off the zone right there. And as much as you’d love that home run for the Phillies, sometimes it’s getting a base runner on, right? Getting out of the stretch. [Applause] Harper, his career in the postseason over 320. [Applause] Yes. Not able to check it. So, he had the green light 3 0 and that’s where you go. That’s ball four right there. And so again, a guy like Bryce, you see a million times in his career, take that pitch and take his walk. Now it’s three and two. Bryce Harper celebrating the birth of his fourth child, son right before this division series started. Oh, been a big moment here in the 11th inning. Alex Vessia back in the countdown from 3 0 to 3-2. And Harper spoils it. Foul. You can see he’s trying to work that outside part of the plate, whether it’s with that fast ball, whether it’s with that slider. Bessie only giving up two home runs to left-handed hitters this year. Very tough. Blake Tran in the Dodger pen. Full count. Harper lays off. Essia misses badly and Bryce Harper is aboard. There’s the go-ahead run at first base with one out. He has pitched in all but one game. didn’t pitch last night after the Phillies put five runs on the board in the eighth and won the game 8-2. [Applause] Now it’s Alec Bow. [Applause] Bow has been a hot hitter and he sends that one to center field. Back on it, Pahz. He’s got it just shy of the wall. Harper has to retreat. Boom. stung it but hit it to the deepest part of the ballpark. Two outs in the 11th. They hit that on a line. PZ, good job. Got a nice jump on that. Got back on it. Rob Thompson is going to call on his bench. Harrison Bader will enter this game and get an atbat here in the 11th with Harper at first. Bader has been out since game one with a hamstring injury. Those are his words. Phillies announced that it was a groin injury. Bader said before the game today it was in the hammy. He feels like he is close to being able to start a game. felt like today he could hit and then stay in the game to run, but he did pinch hit in game two and delivered with a single. He has designs on being in the lineup in game five in Philadelphia if the Phillies can get there. Wonder if Rob Thompson at some point would deploy this matchup and give him an opportunity. And here it is. 11th inning, he’s going to take a shot. Bader hits for Brandon Marsh. Bryce Harper carries the go-ahehead run at first base. He’ll be off of the crack of the bat with two outs. And that’s going to get away from Smith. Harper to second base. And the screws tighten on Vessia now. It’ll be a wild pitch and a big 90 ft. Smith would certainly tell you a ball he’s got to handle, but a wild pitch it is. Back in game one or game two, Bader pinch hit, hit a single to left off Essia. Slow roller foul. Harper runs pretty well. Got the best arm in the Dodger outfield and center in Pahes. KK Hernandez throws it well in left field as well. Going be tough to throw him out. Rice getting a big lead right here. Two stri uh two outs. Anything that hits a grass should score a run. One ball, one strike. Hater in a one-two count. Couple change ups in a row from Vessia. A lot of times when he gets that swing and miss from right-handed batters, BA, it’s that fast ball up in the zone kind of continuing to ride. One ball, two strikes on Harrison Bader. One-1 game. Bader fouls it away. [Applause] Dodgers will have Freddy Freeman, Tommy Edmond, Will Smith coming up in the bottom of this 11th inning. Still tied at one. Go ahead run at second and Harper Vessia deals and it’s in the dirt. Good play back there that time from Smith. Two and two the count. [Applause] Vessie is ready. Two-2. Bader spoils another one. Chased one, but he fouls it away. No idea how he fouled that ball off. Well, that was 93 with a lot of tail running up. Look at the movement out of his hand. You know, Bessie, it throws kind of funky over that head. So, when it comes out, it just continues to go. What a matchup we’ve had between these two. This is the seventh pitch of the atbat. And it’s in the dirt. And now it’s three and two. Philly’s picked up Bader. The trade deadline from the Twins. He lengthened their lineup. He locked down center field defensively, changed the dynamics of the Phillies outfield and now he is in a huge spot trying to save the Philly season perhaps. Two outs, tie game in the 11th and the payoff pitch. Bader off his foot and this atbat continues. We’ll see at least nine pitches. You don’t ever want to give in, but there is a base open right here, you know, so it’s not like you got to one right here to give it to him. That’s been the attack on Bader. Harper walked with one away, went to second on a wild pitch. The ninth pitch of the sequence and Bader pops it up behind home plate. Smith will give it a courtesy look and it’ll be in the seats. You’ll see at least 10 pitches. What a battle here. And that’s what Vessie gets. That high riding fast ball. If you remember in game one, Sosa came up and flyed out the center on that fast ball. Two hits in three tries against Vessia. Another 3-2. Here he comes. And a swing and a miss. He got him with a slider. Messia stands tall. He strikes out Bader. The game is still tied at one. To the bottom of the 11th we go. Hitters beware. Pitchers are dominating. Freeman Edmond Smith coming up for LA. [Music] Freddy Freeman ready to lead off and the moment of his life. walk-off home run in a World Series and it was a salami at Joe Davis’s great call. Gibby, meet Freddy. One of the signature moments and his dad 24 season. Yeah, right there on the front row. And now Freeman will lead off. Defensive changes. Weston Wilson enters the game in left. Kepler moves to center. Remember it was Bader that pinch hit it for Brandon Marsh. So, the Phillies are a little less than they would like to be defensively in the outfield, but Jesus Lazardo a three up, three down 10th, and now he’s on for the 11th. And he continues to pour in the strikes. Oh, and to the count. And that’s the thing, right? You haven’t done a bullpen in four years. Come out of the bullpen for Lazardo. through Rob Thompson taking a little bit of a risk with this with Kirkery still down there. But he has come out and filled up the zone from the first pitch to Show until getting Freddy down one too. I’m sure Rob Thompson feels like he’s tipp the the pitching scales. Anyway, he’s got Lousardo on the mound now. Dodgers have kind of poured through some of their high leverage guys as Freeman strikes out on a high fast ball. 98 mph cheese from Luzardo. And there is out number one. Third strike out the first four batters face for Lousardo. I mean, this is elite pitching right here. We’re seeing three sweepers in a row in the 98 climb the ladder. Tommy Eden takes a strike. Lizardo taking that throw right back on the pitching rubber ready to fire. He’s made one relief appearance in the postseason. He went three innings in a wildcard game in 2019. That was as a member of the athletics. Did that in a loss against Tampa Bay. Rousardo went six plus innings in game two. Gave up two earned runs. He struck out five. and a spinner in there for a strike. That’s his pitch when he’s needed any time right now. Got ahead of that, then got the 2-1 and came with that back door sweeper [Applause] with Kirkering loosening in the bullpen. This is Luzardo’s game right now. Two and two. Edmond tracks one in low. Will Smith do next? No automatic runner in extra innings in the postseason. 3-2 Edmond pulls it fouled. [Music] Jesus Lardo deals a 3-2 count stays that way. 99A just pouring. [Music] Three pitch pitchers got that big fast ball. The spike sweeper. That pitch he calls the gyro slider. Tommy Edmond into left field. A base hit. There is the winning run on an eight pitch battle. Tommy Edmond is aboard. with his first hit of the game. Went with the change up and being 3-2 had to kind of come with a strike and you see got in on Edmond. Tommy able to stick it out to left field and get get on. Edmond has a bad ankle. So a pinch runner is coming on for him. Essim carries the division series winning run for the Dodgers right now. and Will Smith who drove in two big runs in game two. Lazardo after retiring the first four gets into the stretch for the first time. Philly set up to turn a double play here [Applause] in there with a fast ball right at the bottom of the zone. [Applause] Two hits and 13 at bats career against this lefty. Low ops. And that one spins down and in. One ball, one strike. Something we’ve seen Will Smith do a good job sometimes. You’ll see him shoot that right side, especially versus lefties. And with Edmond’s feet, I know he’s still got that ankle thing a little bit. [Applause] Kim pinch running. He’ll get the third. Jeff just missed. Right. You always want the big home run ball, but right here if you shoot one over there, you get first and third. Philly’s outfielders are very deep. They’re trying to cut off the gappers or anything down the line. Only one out. Tie game. Here’s a 2-1 and a swaying and a miss. Stuck with the breaking ball. The count goes to two and two now. Oh, what a game this has been. The pitching in this game with these two heavyweight lineups is off the charts. I mean, we’re sitting here in the 11th inning. 10 hits total between these two teams. Two and two to Smith. Did he go? They’ll ask. He did not. checks his swing. Well, now do you send Kim here in a 3-2 count with one out. Oh, big call. Wow, that was close to a swing, too. Might have got a break. Yeah. See what he does. Kim stays put. Smith in the air to center. Backing up on it. Kepler. He’s got it. The benefits of playing deep. Two outs now. Yeah, you’re right. With these outfielders playing deep, both teams, you saw Pawheads get to the one from Bow and now this one Kepler is able to just take a few steps back. Max my he’ll get another shot at it. [Applause] The pinch hit to start the ninth. He flew out to center field against Strong. He gets another left-handed pitcher and that’s a base hit up the middle. Kim on his way to third. Maxy has put the winning run 90 ft away. Ambush mode. Good job by Max. If you’ve been watching, everybody’s almost got a first pitch sweeper. That ball was not hit hard. And look at Rob Thompson. He’s going to come out and bring Kirkering in. [Applause] He trusts Kirkering right now with that two seamer to Kik Hernandez. Boy, what a moment this is. Muny extends the inning. Lousardo is out. Rob Thompson’s going to play matchup here in a tie game. [Applause] [Applause] [Music] Get those towels out. Wave those towels. Get the Dodgers know you’re here. Let’s get around [Applause] thrillers all the way around. And a couple of epic game fours right now. We are in the business side of this one. All tied at one. Orion Kirkering is out of the Phillies bullpen to face Kik Hernandez. Winning run at third base. Kirkering deals and he pours in a strike. Justice right if you remember the other night ba he shattered Hernandez’s bat on that ground ball to Trey Turner was able to get a run in guy that has delivered so often in the postseason PK has another shot here just missed Hernandez had a walk-off in the regular season with the Dodgers back in 2019 as a postseason walk-off as a member of the Red Sox was back in the 2021 ALDS. [Applause] A sack fly in that game to win it against Tampa Bay. Two balls, one strike. Winning run at third. Hernandez a wave and a miss. It made up his mind. And now the count is two and two for Kirking. Man, what a pitch. 2-1. You take the chance of that pass ball spiked in the ground and he threw a perfect [Music] sweeper. Kik had a key hit of the seventh set up the bases loaded walk by bets that tied this game. Philly scored in the top of that seventh inning on a double by Castianos. Kik Hernandez maybe needing some medical attention here. Like he looked down at his ankle after that swing. Watch his foot. [Applause] That play hobbled a little bit. All right. Only adding to the drama. Dodgers have had a knack with players with injured legs delivering walk-offs. Two and two count goes fully takes second base. Defensive indifference on that is the ruling. Pah has to next. Here we go. 3-2 and it is ball four and the bases are loaded for the Dodgers in the 11th. Of [Applause] course, it would come down to Andy Pahz, the guy that’s probably struggled the most, but has had a fantastic season for the Dodgers with a chance to send them into the NLCS. Jaylen Cthum going out. scouting report. Make sure everybody’s on the same page here. 24y old Orion Kirking. This has been a terrific game. Phillies trying to extend the division series, get back to Philadelphia for a game five. Dodgers can pop the bottles if they win this one and punch their ticket to the NLCS. Say this, I think it’s why everybody was so excited to see these two teams play. All the star power these arms tonight. I know we talked about it have been incredible. Pes in his career, one walk-off in a regular season game that was against the Braves last season. It came in the bottom of the 11th. And that’s where we are. Base is loaded. Only run that matters is at third. Phillies have a force out at every base. And Pahes a swing. Over anxious. He chased one. It’s 0 and one. [Applause] Kirking tried to send this one to the 12th. [Applause] No balls in a strike. Pah breaks his bat. Kirk Ring got to find it. Throws to the plate. Oh my goodness. He throws it away and the Dodgers have won. The Dodgers win and they are moving on to the NLCS [Applause] and a most improbable finish. Pandemonium at Dodger Stadium and your heart breaks for Orion Kirkering. Stop. [Applause] Dodgers ecstatic. You know, you this game ends in the crulest way for the Phillies. You hate the game ended this way. It was played so well and Kirkering right there. Plenty of time to go to first. I mean, plenty of time to go to first. Even though he bobbled it and just kind of in the moment panic and look at that right there. Even if he threw a good one, he’s safe. Kim got a break. Jump off it. runs back to the plate. Turk Ring knew it immediately. He couldn’t field it cleanly and then the panic set in. Oh my goodness. [Applause] Right here. Look, you see where P is not even halfway down the line. That’s a throw Kirkering’s made a thousand times in PFPs. And he just lost track of the outs. He came in to the inning with two away. needed just the one out. It is the Los Angeles Dodgers. Their title defense continues. Andy Pz broke his bat. And you see Ri Muto point. He’s trying to point over there to tell him to go to first. And Dodgers score their two runs in this win on a bases loaded walk. And an error by the pitcher with the bases loaded. Wow, what an ending. It ended that way, but what a pitch game by both teams and the Dodgers ultimately will move on to the NLCS. Foundation as part of the Capital One program. The Dodgers are moving on as we send it down to Lauren Shahadi. Andy Pahz, congratulations. and his interpreter. Juan, I saw you on the on deck circle kind of take the moment in. What were you telling yourself? Yeah, just getting ready for that moment, you know, that knew that one of those that moment was going to come to me and just being prepared for that moment in that situation. What did you see from your vantage point on that hit to the pitcher? [Applause] Yeah, I just tried to hit the ball forward, you know, and I saw the play a little bit unfold and when I saw him throw it to home, I knew that it was it wasn’t going to be a good play. So, did you think it was coming to first? Yeah, I thought he was going to throw it first, but when I saw him throw it to home, I kind of had a feeling that the game was over. I just saw all your teammates hug you. What did they say to you, Andy? Yeah, they’ve been supportive the whole time, you know, through this bad rut. And they told me that this moment was going to happen for me and luckily it did. Happened. Congratulations. And the moment is yours, Andy. Thank you. Brian, Dodgers celebrate. Thank you, Lauren. Thanks to Andy Pes and Juan. And Kim comes across that plate. He missed it. Yeah, you did see him scamper. Miss it. And obviously you’re not going to have anybody behind the plate at that point. But again, I can just say this, pressure does crazy things. This game does crazy things. And Orion Kirkering has made that play a thousand times since he was 5 years old in spring training every day. And you know, again, I’ll just say this, congrats to the Dodgers. You just hate to see a game end that way, right? It was pitched so well tonight. It was a classic game. It was it had all the makeup of one of those classics and you just want to wrap your arms around Orion Kirkering. I mean that is something that he will think about for a long long time. He’s a great young pitcher and you hope he comes back and has a great long career. He’s a guy you’re going to root for the rest of his career after that. But he just forgot how many outs. And I thought it was great. Rob Thompson waited at the dugout and hung and and hugged his righty. But again, congrats to the Dodgers. We’ve seen this pitch and what they can do. And they were able to outlast the Phillies tonight. The Yankees go out in the division series. The Dodgers advance to the league championship series. For Jeff Rancor, Lauren Shahadi, the rest of our crew, Brian Anderson saying so long from LA. Game two of our double
