HOUR 1 | Utah struggles to execute at LaVell Edwards Stadium as BYU stays undefeated with the Riv…
Hey, this is JJ and Alexen. As you wrap up your day, it’s time to get your fix of the teams you live for and the sports you love. This is JJ and Alex on 975, the KSL Sports Zone. [Music] welcome in to your Monday everybody. Thanks for being with us. 975 EKSL Sport Zone. Alex Cury, Jeremiah Jensen, thanks for being with us on the show. Our producer, Alex Napols, in the house. It was touchand go there for a minute and uh we didn’t know if we were going to get him. Yeah, he you weren’t like on ICU or you weren’t in the ICU or anything. I’m What I’m saying is he made it. He’s got he’s got soccer game duties on top of all the other stuff he’s doing. And we’ve got uh yet he still shows the dedication today. It’s a hustle to be down here at 3:00. Look at Look at him to make magic happen. That’s great. JJ, I always love these Mondays because this is when I mean we we see each other all week in the week priors walking up to the weekends and then we dip on Saturdays and Sundays and go to our other other duties, you on the TV side, me doing the rest of the kind of radio stuff that we did for the rivalry game obviously and and all the other Saturday stuff that we do. And uh then we get together and this is the first time we really get to kind of mash up what we saw on Saturday. You and I on purpose have not had any conversations about what took place on Saturday. We’ve talked about what what kind of things we want to get into the show, what things we want to talk about, but obviously I haven’t shared my takes with you. We haven’t been able to go back and forth about how this game piping hot and fresh out of the oven ready to go. Ready to serve. Steaming. Steaming hot. You didn’t have to freeze these. Thumb them out. Reserve them. I’ve saved them. It’s like moisture and steaming. I don’t want I don’t want those things mentioned anytime. Hey, is give me your hot steaming takes. No, thank you. It’s It’s 2025. We can air fry our takes these days. Yeah, man. It’s amazing how that thing works. They’re crispy. They’re ready to go. Yeah. Uh let’s kick off the show officially. Let’s just get right into it. We’ve got tons to break down, not only from the weekend that was, but also uh looking ahead to what’s going to be happening this week. Of course, the NBA is upon us. The NBA is back on NBC. Uh the NBA, of course, is back here in our market. Everybody’s excited. You’ve got basketball going on. You’ve got the NBA kicking off this week. We’ve got our round table tomorrow uh down at the JCWs in Sandy. Of course, we’re going to be down there breaking down the Jazz kicking off their season. Yes, it is officially upon us. We’re going to be full on regular season NHL, regular season NBA, college football season in full boore. High school football is into playoff mode, which means of course uh that means double the workload for uh Sly and JJ during the weekends. And so it’s a lot, but we’re here for it. This is what we do it all for. But let’s first jump in now with the cut. Top of the program. It’s us jamming about what happened on Saturday in Provo. Let’s get right to it. It’s time for the biggest story of the day. This is what made the cut with JJ and Alex on 975 the KSL Sports Zone. Trajunwealth brings you this portion of the program. TJwealth.com for all your trusted local needs and retirement. It’s trajewealth.com. All right, so let’s get right to it, JJ. Um, I was down on the field for the last five minutes of chaos that that game brought us because why wouldn’t it be chaotic in that game? Every year it is. I was saying to uh to Christian and Alex Napoulos on Saturday, I’m in the south end zone and I’m on the field and I was just talking to Hans about this because I didn’t I couldn’t tell. And when you’re on the field and and the loudness at Lavel Edwards Stadium is times five when you’re in that south end zone. Yes. And I’m watching this thing play out and I’m seeing the two penalties that led to Utah being on the two yard line or the one yard line. They get the the the score right there at the end and then the onside kick happens. You can’t see the depth of the field in the end zones. Worst place to watch a game honestly. It’s just the absolute worst. You’re on field level. You don’t know where the down markers really are. you have no idea where the where the yard yardage markers are. And so when I see that ball get kicked off, the onside kick, I am laughing my head off a little bit because I just came from the downstairs where all the people who are writing all this game up from the print standpoint have already got their stories ready to hit send, you know, but this game always brings you something close. And I couldn’t tell where that ball was on the field. Now later I go back and look and I go, “Oh, it actually wasn’t that close.” When you get the illegal touch and call, you kind of go, “Wow, I didn’t see it.” you know, but you didn’t know how far the ball had gone at that point. And uh anyway, the rivalry game delivered another giant controversy, of course, on the on the officiating part, according to a lot of folks that I was sitting by. Stephen Sylvester may may or may not have been one of those guys that I was standing next to in the south end zone. And you know, I watched Kyle Whittingham in that second half absolutely furious and spending a lot of time working on those referees on the side. And he didn’t like the way things were called. He didn’t love how that game went down. You had a massive amount of emotion in that game as seen by the uh targeting penalty on Lander Barton and when he got and when he got kicked out of the game like it was that was a massive turning point not just because of the guy who was on the field but because of the emotional toll that that takes with the defensive captain being and the gain it gave BYU. Yes. Yes. How that ch get an automatic first down. They move 15 yards up the field. It was a big big play. It was a huge moment and on top of that the breaking out of Bear Bachmeire again seemingly like they have no problem just running this guy up the middle on any third down any time at any distance and he seems to be able to find his way down the field. He’s gotten better at reading where those defenders are. That 22 yard run is going to go down as one of the moments in in uh in rivalry lore for BYU fans. and the fourth down conversions that were not the field goals that were not kicked for a lot of Utah fans or at least attempted that’ll go down as why on earth for the for one of the first times you’re seeing Kyle Whittingham getting people are going what is going on in Wit’s world his coaching being criticized as to why he went for what he did and all those things. So I I’m curious to get your thoughts on how this one went down and and what your what what you thought of this uh of this rivalry game edition 103. Let me give you the Utah side and then I can give the BYU side when you’re ready. I’ll start with Utah. You mentioned the fourth downs. Okay. Should they have kicked the field goals? In hindsight, it’s easy to say yes. Kyle Whittingham, to his credit, has embraced analytics and it has worked for them over the years recently. One of the reasons why they won back-to-back Pack 12 championships and went to the Rose Bowl in backto-back years was their use of analytics. Remember the USC game up at Ricele Stadium against USC the comeback? Yep. The decisions they made in that game late were based on analytics. And what happened? They won the game. They went for it. They went for two and they won. Right. Okay. Nobody was questioning the analytics when that happened. We’re questioning the analytics now. Why? It’s not because it wasn’t the right call. It’s because Utah did not execute. And this is the problem with Utah right now. It’s not about the penalties in that game, blah blah blah. It’s not about the the the targeting. It’s it’s none of that. There’s two reasons why Utah lost this football game. And it has nothing to do with should they have kicked a field goal or not. They’re not executing at a championship level. Those fourth down conversions, go back and watch them and watch the missed blocks. Watch the poor execution on those key plays. They didn’t get it done in those moments. The Daniel Bray carry, was it Mo Bomba that came up, made that great tackle? Yep. The receiver was supposed to come up and chip Bomba and didn’t. Otherwise, Bray might have scored on that play. Daniel Bray had a great game. No one’s talking about Daniel Bray and his 121 yards rushing on 10 carries. He was only one yard short of LJ Martin for the leading rusher in that game. we would be talking about them if the Utes executed and they didn’t. The other thing is turnovers. I talked about this on Friday. We made our predictions. I predicted 23 to 20 Utah. And why did I go with Utah? Because I thought Utah was going to be the team that took care of the ball and they were going to be able to force Bear Bachmeire into making those turnovers. Turned out to be the opposite. That punt return, that botched punt at the end of the first half was a massive play in that game because Utah would have been set up near midfield with the chance to go down and score before the half and then they got the ball first to start the second half. And by the way, they didn’t take advantage of that drive either. Yeah, that was killer. And then Dan Dampier throwing that interception, a bad ball in the fourth quarter on a key drive where they needed to score and they turn it back over to BYU and BYU finishes them off. turnovers and poor execution is the reason why Utah won that game. Not because they didn’t pick to choose or choose to kick field goals, not because of the penalties, not because of any of the other stuff. It’s really that simple. Utah is not executing as a championship level yet. And to BYU’s credit, they are BYU executed really well in that game. Look at the Daniel Bray play that got blown up in the first quarter and compare it to the Parker Kingston touchdown. Similar plays. What did BYU do different than Utah did? They blocked. They made they created a lane that Parker Kingson needed to walk into the end zone. It’s simple execution. Bear Bachmeire executed and he used his talents and his abilities to his advantage. Utah didn’t do a good enough job executing defensively in that fourth quarter. The QB run game got him again. The QB run game got him again. And when it comes down to it, that is why Utah did not win this game. Interestingly enough, BYU 200 yards on the ground. Utah 22 226 on the ground. U and Dampier, by the way, those 15 rushes for 64 yards to Bears 11 rushes for 64 yards. So, those two guys both end up with uh you know, 64 yards on the ground. Devin Dampier did not attempt a another quarterback run after he after that middle of the third quarter hit that took him off the field that he was absolutely limping around on. And Lloyd uh actually tweeted this out actually I think toward the end of the game. He’s like I did not see Devin Damper throwing 36 times. It’s because that was the only option for their guy. That was the only option for Devin Dampier after that. His ankle was worse than it was in the Texas Tech game. Yes. The guy was limping around like crazy. He could and to his credit he still he threw he threw a heck of a ball the second half. I mean, after that, the interception that Tanner Wall got, he made some adjustments, but his ankle was absolutely terrible. Yeah. And he still threw the ball pretty darn well, but that’s why you saw 36 passing attempts. Uh because they had to now one, they’re playing from behind, so they had to throw a ton. And by the end of it, he ran 15 times. Yeah. In the game. And he didn’t after like the very beginning of the third quarter basically. So he he ran the ball a ton and that was part of their game plan. and you saw guys making those plays and as soon as as soon as you saw the momentum swing and I don’t know the exact moment, maybe it was more of a combined uh set of moments like the Lander Barton getting uh tossed after the after the targeting penalty. Uh the interception was a huge turnaround. the non-interception that ended up being the bear Bachmeer that Jack Benny picks off, but there was a a holding on Carson Ryan at the bottom, which is obvious. It was obviously a hole, but it didn’t hold, but it didn’t need to happen, right? He’s away from a play like execution. Execution and discipline. I mean, those were those are the issues with Utah all season long. And these are not typical problems you have with a team led by Kyle Whittingham and Morgan Scally. I don’t understand the execution problems with Utah right now. It it was very apparent that was a problem in the Texas type game. This was a problem in Wyoming. Their execution in Larmy was atrocious and they talked about it and these things continue to come back to bite them. And in a rivalry game that was that they was that was this hotly contested, they could not afford to have that many. How many drive? So they had four drives that ended on fourth downs. They they they turn it over on downs four times and they had two turnovers. That’s six drives where Utah came up with no points. six. You can’t win games when you’re doing that. I don’t care how many yards you got. I know we’re talking about how many yards that offense had. They outgainained and outperformed BYU in every statistic except for turnovers. And the one that matters most, the scoreboard. I don’t care how many yards you got. You got to execute better. And I think the frustration is you see that Utah has the potential to be elite, but their execution is not at that level. and that has to be cleaned up. On the BYU side of things, uh how did you think that the game plan that BYU had, which was to let Bear just kind of I mean, he’s he’s not his numbers are not exceptional. He got himself a fourth uh Big 12 player of the week award and his fifth of the season. Uh well, freshman player of the week award, right? And with good reason. One, because there’s not a lot of freshman that are doing what he’s doing. But the numbers aren’t jumping off the page. what is it that that he does for this game? Cuz it feels very kind of game manager type deal. But those the hurdle play is not a game manager play. The 22 yard run where he gets pushed in by his teammates at the very end. Like that’s those aren’t he’s doing stuff on the field that feel very much uh out of the ordinary for somebody who’s as young as he is. Execution. Same thing on the other side. In key moments, he made the right plays. They uh the the uh touchdown to Chase Roberts. Talk about execution. You cannot throw a ball better than that. In a big moment, in a big game, early on in that game, that throw was a big-time throw, recognizing that Chase Roberts had one-on-one coverage. He had a size advantage and he put the ball where only Chase could get it for that score. Terrific touchdown that gave him that early score that they needed from there on out. Yeah, there was it wasn’t perfect. It wasn’t like dynamic. It didn’t need to be. And against that Utah defense, that’s a very very good defense. And I know in looking at the numbers, 13 of 22 passing. Okay, that’s not going to if if you’re if you’re looking at the weekly awards, that’s not going to that’s not going to pop off the page, right? And then the rushing 11 for 64 yards. That’s fine. 5.8 yards per carry, but it wasn’t it was it was the key moments. And what you need out of a quarterback is when you have those great those important moments like it’s a maybe it’s a fourth down where you got to have that yard or you need to move the chains or you need to come up with a big play. Bear delivered the the leaping uh the where he leap he jumped over the guy. It was a great play, but that touchdown, that rushing touchdown where he’s carrying Utah defenders into the end zone with some help from some friends, th that is coming up and making a big play in a moment where you absolutely have to have one. And that’s where he shined. He’s got this demeanor about him that he’s he’s never too high, never too low, which is exactly what you need out of your quarterback. And BYU, that team believes in him. And then when when they go out there and they have a belief in that guy, they’re going to have results like they had both in Arizona and against Utah. To to come back against Arizona was was incredible. And we doubt it because like why, you know, why were you in that situation then? It was the opposite at Utah. You’re at home. You got to save this team off and you do everything right to do it. He’s executing at a high level. So Col’s a cucumber, right? Cool is a cucumber. whatever whatever whatever cliche whatever analogy you want to come up with he is that for that team. Yeah. After the game of course there are a couple things that went on. I went to the I went to Colani Satake’s press conference after and listen to some of the things that he talked about. Here’s what he said uh about Bear Bachmeire specifically and and how you know that that that performance that he had and what it did for his team and and uh yeah again they they talk about him as as steady as it comes. It’s almost like they’re not impressed anymore. They just already know what he can do. Thought he did a great job. You know, and this is not an easy game to prep for even all week. You know, we did it on homecoming week. So, we made a big deal about it. And I just saw this young freshman come to work every day and watch film, study, practice, and make mistakes in practice and and correct them and and ready. I wish I can take credit for that. That’s not me. I’ll tell you that he’s made that way, but also we should give credit to A-Rod in the way that he’s mentored him and brought him along. you know, everything that we did from the beginning when we knew that we would start a true freshman at quarterback was deliberate from week one to where we’re at right now. So, you know, we still have some work to do before we get to the next one and we’ll try to get that done. But, he’s been an amazing person to work with and you know, we’re getting all excited. I’m trying to get going and he’s like, “Coach, need to keep going cuz more plays are going to need us again.” And he’s the one keeping me in check. You know what I mean? But love his physical way he plays and he’s a tough kid. I mean, that’s a tough hit and I mean, he’s a tough kid and he’ll be a little sore tomorrow, but it’ll heal quickly with the win. Uh, all right. And then on the flip side of things, on the other side of Lavel Edwards Stadium in the visitor locker room, he had Kyle Whittingham who was asked about the fourth down decisions. Um, I looked at the sheet after the game immediately because I was like, this feels like a lot of really close to but no cigar type situation and he knows that he’s not he’s not dull, but he likes touchdowns and that’s what he wanted. He wanted to he wanted to get touchdowns to win the game. They ended drives on fourth down non-con conversions at the 8 yardd line of BYU at the 13 yardd line of BYU and at the 26 the 26 one I kind of agreed after that we saw the field goal that was totally botched. I mean on the on the timeout called and then and then Curtis kicks the field goal and it doesn’t get anywhere near the uprights they go well we’re going for it. Yeah that was I I kind of got it because they didn’t have confidence in the kicker. That’s what you say. I didn’t have confidence in him 100%. But from the 8 yard line, that’s a 25 yard field goal. From the 13 yard line, that’s a 30-yard field goal. Those are ones that this guy could do in his sleep. Even a guy who might be struggling from a little bit more distance, right? So, he was asked about it because that’s what everybody wanted to know about was why were the fourth down decisions what they were? Uh, and here’s what he had to say about it. Coach, of the the two red zone opportunities, fourth down, why not kick the field goal there? analytics was well inside the analytics to go well inside three yards inside the analytics and so um unless you tell me to go against the analytics that’s why do you have to adjust that given the the game and and the matchup here no you like to play calling go yeah we we racked up almost 500 yards yeah so I mean out of fourth downs sure I got no problem with the play calling yeah on those so there you go uh no I I got it all right and and it’s fine. Look, again, you to your point, head coaches get absolutely blasted for not, you know, for for making those decisions when they don’t go well. It’s like, how dare you? When they do, they go, we got a we got a a wild west shoot from the hip coach that I love, you know, like you have these moments where these guys will say that and they’ll and they’ll say, you know what, this is this is exactly, you know, the type of guy that you expect. Oh, that’s what that’s who you have. Kyle Whittingham is not known for his blunders and coaching. Okay, Utah fans who this week went, I don’t know what happened. He got soft over the years. Get him out of here. I mean, the stuff I saw online this week were wild. It happens though because fans get so ridiculously passionate about this rivalry game that they’ll they’ll say things like, “Get this guy out of here. This get this old dude out of here. The best coach’s fault that his receiver couldn’t pick up a block on that Daniel Bray fourth down. Sorry, it’s not. Yeah, the players had to go out there and make plays and they didn’t on Saturday. These guys had an opportunity to be rivalry heroes and they came up short because they didn’t execute properly and Utah’s going to have to go back and practice and fix fix these things. Did you get I mean, I guess satisfied isn’t the word for it, but were you okay with the answers that he gave? Like I mean, it’s exactly what you have to answer for if you’re the head coach. This is the analytics. This is what the numbers tell us to do. And if they pick up those first downs, we’re having a completely different conversation today. You’re right. But fortune favors the bold. What was the difference in those 2021 and 22 Utah teams? Oh yeah, it was it was they did go for broke, but they got it done because they had guys to execute. 4342. You had the guys to execute. Bryson Barnes against Caleb Williams in USC. Like you had guys who had some heart and went out there and executed and give it everything they had and made plays. I’m not questioning the heart of Utah players, but you have to question effort when guys aren’t executing properly. Are you nervous? Did you not understand what we were doing here? Did you not know your assignment? That’s the questions you need to be asking. And it’s they’re gonna they got to look in the mirror this week because this Utah team still has a chance to have a great season. They got five games left. They could go 10 and two. and you and I both in the mix. They’re not dead yet, right? So, you still got a lot of season. They they have potential, but they have to execute better and that’s got to get fixed. All right. Well, you never really put these rivalry games to bed, but I guess for today’s show, we will a little bit now. Obviously, we’ll still probably come back to it. I feel like I’ve got more to say. Give LJ Martin a ton of credit. Oh, yeah. because quietly he didn’t get into the end zone, but not only was his time did he have timely runs picking up first downs, helping him move the chains, he picked up a lot of blocks. Yeah, he did. A lot of blocks that kept Bear uh allowed Bear to make enough to do enough or get enough. I’m telling you, the years that BYU went without having cuz like to get to have third and twos and third and threes versus third and nines and third and 13s. Exactly. Which is where they’ve been before. Exactly. That’s what LJ Martin does for you. zone. All right, we’ll take a break. We’ll come back. We got more to go around the corner right here on a Monday edition of JJ and Alex 975e KSL Sports Zone. Ladies and gentlemen, the biggest name. You’re locked into JJ and Alex with the insight and analysis on the teams you can’t live without. This is 975, the KSL Sports Zone, your hot and cold segment, college football every week, of course, and every day we talk to you about some of the things that have been happening across the world of college football. Welcome back. By the way, JJ and Alex 975 ESL Sport Zone hot and cold brought to you by the good folks at Enbridge Gas. Ah, appropriately, we’ve got Timber Ridge fireplaces right in here because you can help uh you can get prepped for winter, get that furnace inspected from a certified heating contractor and check for safety and efficiency. Uh by the way, by way of announcement, we’re going to be on the road tomorrow. It is the KSL Sports Zones annual Utah Jazz Roundt. Firing it up from the JCWs in South Jordan at 10660 South Riverfront Parkway. It’s our Jazz round table 3 to 6 tomorrow. We’ll be there. Uh Jake and Ben are going to be there. We’ll get you ready for uh tip off of course of the 2025 2026 season. Uh those those guys don’t mince words. If it’s uh if it’s bleak, they’ll tell you. Uh if there’s moments for hope, and I think that there are for Jazz fans, they’ll find them and we’ll make sure and get you ready for the Jazz start of their season as well. Did Did uh Oh, man. Mendoza went 24 for 28 this weekend. How’s Mendoza? I mean, Indiana, it’s no longer a joke. No, they’re legit and he’s legit and that’s something special going on there. And I can’t put my finger on how or why, but it is. You know, I they’re getting the results. It’s it’s an unlikely combo of a guy who committed to Yale, ended up flipping and going to Cal, decided that Cal was not the place for him, goes to Indiana, meets up with an absolute cowboy of a head coach, and again, somebody you would have never expected in Kurt Signetti uh to lead Indiana to what is now a number two in the country AP ranking. And uh according to all the projections of any of anything anywhere, Indiana until proven otherwise is one of the teams to beat at the top of the Big 10. And it’s not the joke Indiana that we were talking about last year. We made fun of that that schedule last year. You even after they made the playoff, you’re like, come on. You could still roll your eyes a little bit. It’s like, oh, their schedule was so soft and they didn’t and they didn’t perform in the in the in the playoff. They got their they got crushed so at Notre Dame. So it worked for our narrative last year and this year I just don’t have anything to respond to except for Mendoza is good. They’re the second ranked team in the country right now. Was it Ror last year? Was it Ror who was the quarterback for them last year and he was good. This guy’s better. Yeah, it’s wild. And I’ll tell you what’s crazy about uh speaking of you know this is the hot team by the way in college football. They are their defense is phenomenal. their defensive front. Who was When was the last time you were like, “Man, that Indiana defensive line?” Nobody. Well, we was doing the same thing with Texas Tech, right? You all of a sudden you got some money to spend. You can go find your defensive line. Yeah. And I just am I’m uh blown away by the teams that are making their the inroads right now into week eight. We are two weeks away from getting our first college football playoff rankings. And it’s hard to ignore teams like Vanderbilt. It’s hard to ignore teams even like uh Virginia in the ACC is climbing up the post. Wild, right? Virginia, Georgia Tech is still unde Is Georgia Tech still undefeated? Yes, they are. Yes. Hannes King, man. They beat Duke. They moved up five spots this week. Georgia Tech and nobody wants to give them their credit. Seventh in the country right now. They are one of five teams in the AP top 25 that are undefeated. Do you know who else is undefeated and in the top 25? Who? BYU. Those Cougars. Is BYU better than Georgia Tech? No idea. I would feel very confident saying yes. I have no idea. BYU is is four spots behind Georgia Tech in the polls. Well, I I kind of went on and I was like, I’m going to see what these AP voters do this next week or this week, right? when BYU won that game and you’re seeing teams like Georgia Tech, you’re seeing teams like Virginia, you’re seeing all and you go, “Okay, AP voters, what are you guys gonna do this week with your precious Notre Dames and your precious USC’s?” And although USC lost to Notre Dame, but I mean like what are you going to do? Are you going to make them tumble? In Notre Dame’s case, two losses. And I was like, I was waiting for a two loss Notre Dame team. And by every projection, by the way, by Saturday night late, every projection had Notre Dame ahead of BYU. Luckily, I think the the AP voters got it right. And you have undefeated BYU at 11. Isn’t that what what they are? And then and then uh 5-2 Notre Dame at 11 or excuse me, at 12, right after him. And so, I was glad they put him in the right spot, but don’t get it confused. the people will have Notre Dame ahead of BYU and ahead of pretty much anybody else who’s not a a uh you know you’re you’re bonafide, you know, one of your one of your blueb bloodoods, right? To your point, they are five and two and they are ranked 12th in the country. Of course, the teams behind them in the polls, Oklahoma, all of them have a case. Texas Tech, Missouri, and Virginia are all six and one. You mean to tell me you think five-2 Notre Dame is better than Oklahoma and Texas Tech right now? You think five-2 Notre Dame is going to beat Missouri right now? Wow. Based on what? What are you basing that on? No idea. They should not be 12th. They should be behind all of those teams. Now, could you put them ahead of South Florida? Sure. They were 0 and2 to start the season. And it’s almost like, well, I know they’re lost to Miami and Texas A&M, but people forgot what happened to Miami this weekend. Miami wasn’t as good as we probably thought. They lost to Louisville, an unranked Louisville team that is now ranked and is 5-1, but is also behind Notre Dame at number 19. A lot of six-1, 5-1, six-1 teams, sorry, six1 teams in the poll that are behind Notre Dame at 5-2. That’s a joke. I’m sorry. It it we’re going to have a problem with the polls no matter what. What’s crazy is is we’ll have this weekend and I think one more for you to really get fuming when the play better than LSU. I have I actually don’t know. I actually don’t know cuz I think you know where LSU is ranked right now. By the way, was I the only one on our little panel on Friday that said uh Vanderbilt is going to win that game? Come on now. I I wasn’t there. Me and David Portoi. Oh yeah. Oh, hands in the air. I don’t know. Me and uh me and El Presidentedente, dude. Although El Presidente said Utah was going to win that game, defying his bookstore. Yes. Grades of BYU asked for a red hat at the last second to get fans. Don’t be mad at Portoy. He gave the crearyy like a 9 point something. 96. It’s good ice cream. Oh, that was that was Portoy’s first wrong pick. Well, he’s got to hate uh he’s got to hate his this trip to Utah now after doing on all the pizza places around here and ice cream shops. All right. And give Swig a 1.8 by the way. Let’s start it off with some baseball, shall we? How about the sweep of the Dodgers or the sweep of the uh of the Milwaukee Brewers by the Dodgers who of course it’s a shocking thing, JJ. They came alive in the playoffs and uh they were the team to beat now and of course they’re going to continue to be the team to beat. I don’t care who comes out of the AL. I mean, I do care, but my goodness, Ro Show Otani is pretty dang good at baseball. The right-hander Patrick deals and Otani towering wall high drive right field. He’s done it again. Show Otani to the top of the pavilion in right field. The big righty McIll sets on the mound. Here’s the pitch and Otani drives one left center field. Did you show Otani the stuff of legend? Uh those combined for like 900 ft. Just those two shots. I think it was one was 470. So he hits three home runs in an elimination game in an NLCS. And he pitched six scoreless innings on the mound. No one’s ever seen it. What he did on Friday night is the single greatest sports feat of the 21st century. so far. Oh, settle down. Name it. Name one better. Go. Uh, who’s that guy who won like four cornhole championships in a row during co? We all watched it. That was pretty good. Was it Kyle Vanoi at that event? So, the cornhole guy. Look, from a baseball perspective, I get it. Yeah, you’re right, though. I don’t know if there’s anybody. It’s insane. There’s There’s nothing like it. There’s nothing like it. I’ll mole past the Toronto Blue Jays forcing game seven last night and then I’ll go right to Arizona State beating Texas Tech in a game that has made the Big 12. Sometimes this is why we hate this conference. It’s also why we like it though. Le pitches to Ralele Brown and Ralele Brown trying to get across and he does. Touchdown Devils. Raite Brown muscles across the goal line with 34 seconds left to go to put Arizona State back on top. Here we go. Final play as Hammond now scrambles to his right. He’s being chased. He throws the ball up for grabs in the end zone and it is batted away. Incomplete. And down come the goal post. Here come the fans. The Sundevils have knocked off seventh ranked Texas Tech 26-22. That’s a fan base you find because of all the stuff you saw after the game on videos of uh the drunken ASU fans. I’m sitting there with PK. We’re watching the end of the We’re just kind of watching. We’re monitoring because it was right at the end of our pregame um with Jake Scott and and PK myself. We’re sitting there. were watching obviously with great interest and then PK’s obviously watching with great interest as an ASU guy and he was like and and and the and the the field gets stormed and he goes oh no these kids are all drunk like it was like there’s that these kids are all intoxicated and yeah that’s why the Big 12 finds you you know uh I’ll have to tell you a funny story too about the field storm because I was right there at the south end zone when they all started coming on the field but remind me when we start talking about that again a little bit later in the show stay with us more to go around the corner 975 ESL Sports Zone
