Houston Rockets News, Scores and Analysis | Houston Chronicle

My name is Elizabeth Connley. I’m a staff photographer with the Houston Chronicle. I just finished editing photos from Rockets Media Day and I thought I’d share a little bit from behind the scenes. I try to sketch what I’m thinking of beforehand so I can get an idea of what I’m looking for for backdrops and lighting for the day. I like to get there the day before in case any of my gear is broken or if I forget something important like extra batteries. Previous media days, I’ve usually gone with more neutral backdrop, either black or white, but this year I decided to go with a vibrant red. I just felt with the way the last couple seasons have been for this team, they’re on a streak. A lot of optimism going into this year. I wanted my photos to reflect that. The day of I arrive in the morning along with other photographers from multiple media organizations so we can be ready to go well before the player’s arrival. And one of the first players to arrive is Kevin Durant who is the big story this year. Once the players arrive to the photo dock, they work through all of the stations. I try to get a variety of images of them as possible as this will more than likely be the only opportunity for us to get portraits of the players for the rest of the season. Hope you enjoy this little behind the scenes while on assignment and let’s go Rockets.
