Lotte manager Saburo held an inauguration press conference on the 8th.

Manager Saburo hinted at tough training, saying, “This spring we had extremely tough training in Miyakonojo. By enduring that training, few players suffered injuries over the year, and the players’ technical skills have improved tremendously. My slogan at the time was to have a Showa-era camp, and I think that is the area our team is most lacking, so I think the autumn and spring camps will be tough.”

“Showa-era camp” — When asked what he would like to specifically put into practice, he said, “I haven’t decided on anything concrete yet,” but he revealed his plan, saying, “I want to work on physical training and using the ball to hit, throw, and defend at the same time, so I’ll do weight training first to get my body in shape, and then in the afternoon I’ll just hit as hard as I can, defend, and run.”

President and CEO Shunsuke Takasaka, who was also present at the press conference, said, “I believe what we need to focus on now is increasing the strength of the entire team.” He added, “I really think we need to work thoroughly on this, including the upcoming fall practice and spring camp, so first of all, under the leadership of new manager Saburo, we need to work hard on this, not just the manager, but also the team members and staff, and everyone needs to work together. I believe that the players themselves need to receive careful guidance and build this up.”
