turned into a perpetual thing. I made a new one the next year and just continued on every year counting. And 10 gold [Music] Even though he debuted in the United States Special Leads at the age of 27, he managed to accumulate 3,089 hits, over 500 stolen bases, and 10 gold gloves. the first Japaneseborn player into the baseball hall of fame. The legendary now class of 2025 is Suzuki. [Applause] made it to Mecca. Amy France of Auburn had no idea the little guy in right field would make it this big in baseball. No, not in the beginning. A couple years into it, I’m like, “Wow, this guy can keep this up. He’s definitely going to the Hall of Fame when he started putting those numbers of those 200 plus hits.” Ichiro’s 262 hits in a single season still stands as an MLB record. It’s the foundation for his Hall of Fame career and Amy’s fandom known by many as the ichime meter lady. I don’t know if that’s going to be breakable. I can’t say that I love him any more than anybody else. But with my unique experience with the hit count, the each meter sign that I made back when he was breaking the record, that turned into a perpetual thing. I made a new one the next year and just continued on every year counting. Her homemade sign is an artifact in the Hall of Fame where thousands of fans will gather in Coopertown, New York this weekend to honor baseball’s best. Number 51 stands out not only because Ichiro was the first Japanese position player to join the majors, but because he was one vote short of a unanimous selection to the hall. But there was one writer that um I wasn’t able to get a vote from. I would like to invite him over to our to my house and uh we’ll have a drink together and uh we’ll have a good chat. Ichiro is the third player to retire as a mariner in the Baseball Hall of Fame, joining the likes of these guys behind me here, Ken Griffy Jr. and Edgar Martinez. From the former Safeco field to Coopertown and around the world, Ichi etched his name into the game and the hearts of fans. Definitely bring some issues in Seattle. Alex mccloon, King Five News. Your thoughts on Ichiro Suzuki’s arrival, of course, a fellow Seattle Mariner to the Hall of Fame. Well, uh, he was never my teammate, but being in Seattle where I played, and he played as many years as I did there, and he basically rewrote the record books there in Seattle and in Major League Baseball. So, I couldn’t be more happy for him. How about CC Sabathy as a fellow left-hander? Well, I know a little bit more about Icho uh because, uh, obviously played in Seattle. Um, CC, I said just said hi to and congratulate. I couldn’t be happy for the whole, you know, more happy than I am for the whole class, you know. So, uh, it’s great for baseball and great great ball players and great people. [Music] Let’s let’s start let’s start with English. Let’s let’s start with English. You competed against CC Sabathia in your final World Series in 2009. But what did it mean to share that that stage that great Phillies Yankees World Series with CC Sabathia? I’m extremely honored to have competed against Cece and it’s unfortunate that me and him didn’t play together just like guys like Gary Sheffield. I always wanted to play with guys like Gary Sheffield. Uh so many players that I just respect and admire. Uh since he’s one of those guys that wasn’t intimidated by the moment. uh since he’s one of those guys that would just pick up the ball when you give him the ball and you rarely find those guys anymore. But uh extremely proud of CeCe and the and the new class coming into the Hall of Fame. I’m extremely proud of each individual that’s coming in. So Pedro in your prime against Ichiro in his prime one at bat. How you going to pitch him? Uh never the same, never the same location. Uh, I will very speed and if I happen to get ahead, I’ll force him to pull the ball. Adrien Beltra, Adrian, to be able to come back with no speech to give. How cool are you right now, my friend? Oh, so relaxing this time. This is great. No, this is great. I know that last year was a little stressful. Our family in town, a lot of uh a lot of stuff to to do and to say, but now this time is more relaxed. So, I’m really enjoying this. You competed against CC Sabathia a lot in the American League. What do you remember about those encounters? Anyone that stands out to you? They were tough about all the time. He was a tough competitor. I never enjoyed facing him. So, it’s a reason why he’s here today. Uh he was a true ace and uh I admire him from the outside. And finally, what did you learn from playing alongside Ichiro in Seattle? I learned how to hit. Yeah, I think each is one of the most talented hitters I’ve seen and I I my opinion I thought he is a lot more there that he didn’t want to show because he had a lot of power. So, you know, he decide to hit more hits, get more base hits. It was a lot more there but it was one of the amazing players that I ever play with.
