CI JOYRIDE: Japan

[Music] [Music] 79 79 170 I think is what I read. Shoulder but same injury. No way. Yeah. Yeah, boy. [Applause] Like I guess the whole point of the trip was to try to get out and see some shops that are probably a little bit further out there than the other trips that we had done in the past. So, the other trips we had kind of focused on some bigger shops closer in in like the main cities and stuff. And then this time we really wanted to get out further in the countryside and kind of let them know how much they meant to us and um how grateful we were that they were fans of Channel Islands. And I felt like for myself it was really exciting cuz I had spent a lot more time in kind of the cities throughout my travels in Japan and I’ve always wanted to spend more time out in the countryside and it’s just yeah the opportunity to share the connection of surfing with people from all over the world is such like a privilege. But I feel like to be able to go and do that in Japan, just the way that the culture is around surfing there, it’s my favorite by far. [Music] Hallelujah. Hallelujah. [Music] [Music] The spirit in and around surfing is is so alive and well in Japan. and that it’s a really fun place to go and bond with others and just, you know, so a lot of the time we don’t even speak the same language, but we can kind of like just communicate through our love of surfing and um to be able to have Channel Islands as like the vehicle to to be able to do that as a surfer on these tours is super special. Business class car seats. Oh, here we go. Mercedes, Japan. getting together with the CI Japan and Maneuver Line crew and or just the riders that we’ve gotten to do these trips with. It’s become something that I look forward to every year just jumping in a van with a bunch of surfers from Channel Islands. And just kind of talking and having fun and spending time together and I feel like whenever I leave those trips feels like we accomplished so much. Ways look super fun. The crew seems legendary. Everybody’s pretty excited to get in the water as fast as possible. Me included. Heat. Heat. I’m not. [Music] Uh, so fun. Waves are pretty sick. Everyone’s super nice and yeah, the boys are ripping. Felt nice after sitting in the car for so long. Wash it all off. Here we go. action. Bofer, this is a crazy surf shop. I just want to say thank you so much for coming and showing support to Channel Islands. means a lot for everybody involved with the brand and we’re so happy to be in your beautiful country and experience the waves, the people, the food, and um you know, meet so many new amazing people. So, thank you so much. I really appreciate it and I hope you enjoy the evening. And if you have any questions about surfboards, please feel free to come ask any one of us. Um this is a great group of people right here and it’s been an honor to travel with them through Japan and um yeah, thank you. Appreciate it. [Applause] Good boy. Should [Applause] we pick him up? It’s been such a fun trip and yeah, it’s all for Channel Islands. So, thank you so much. [Music] Uh we’re here two of Stab High Japan. Uh it’s about to get underway. Guys are looking good. Girls are looking good. Wind is kind of up, but there’s going to be some carnage and some sick air is going down. We got one. Let’s go, guys. Don’t give Wow. [Applause] [Music] Hey. Yeah. [Music] Get more. You don’t get [Applause] How we feeling? Yeah. I think um you know, first and foremost, thank you. Thank you for being welcoming to, you know, a traveler from overseas and and making us feel like we’re welcome. That’s not always the case all over the world. So to travel and and feel warm welcome is, you know, really a nice thing. And then yeah, the other thing is I just I love the spirit of surfing in Japan. Um I consider myself to be pretty much a super frothther when it comes to surfing. And when I go to Japan and I hang out with the surfers from there and see the culture, I’m like, “Oh, you guys are just like me. Like, you love it just as much as me. I’m not weird after all.” So, yeah, I just keep loving surfing and um, you know, do it for all the right reasons. And, um, continue to to have fun and and just connect with people over the love of surfing. It’s one of my favorite things to do. And uh Japan’s become one of my favorite places in the world to travel to because of that connection with surfing. So just mostly thank you for for welcoming us and being the way that you are because it’s awesome and makes us all want to come back. So thank you. Arato. Ariato. [Music] la. [Music] Wow. [Music] Oh. [Music] Wow. [Music] Boom. [Music] Wow.

Some of CI’s global team riders returned to Japan for Stab High this year. After the event wrapped, they jumped in the CI van with a few of our Japan team riders and hit the road to share a sneak peek of our upcoming edits for the Feb’s Fish and Happy Family.

The crew made stops at shops in Osaka, Shikoku, Fukuoka, and Miyazaki. Along for the ride: Parker Coffin, Cam Richards, Kaito Ohashi, Shun Murakami, and Raimu Yamamoto—with cameos by Masatoshi Ohno, Hideyoshi Tanaka, and Yujiro Takai.

In just seven days, our crew covered 2,000km, visited 9 shops, and hosted 7 events—sneaking in a few surf sessions and plenty of local eats and convenience store hauls. Highlights included Loci Cullen taking out the Bottle Rockets division of Stab High, and Cam Richards earning Runner-up in the Men’s division.

Arigato Japan! See you next year.
