MLB LIVE🔴 Philadelphia Phillies vs Los Angeles Angels – Jul 20, 2025 | Full Game MLB 2025 EN VIVO
Just about set to go and towing the slab here, Christopher Sanchez. And Singi, we were talking earlier about how he’s doing a great job navigating through tough spots. I’ve just been so impressed with when it seems like there’s more pressure, he’s more calm and settles in. He’s done an incredible job with runners in scoring position. Most guys, they get a little tight, they start to aim the baseball, but for some reason he gets looser. The ball comes out of his hand with more life, and he’s able to wiggle off the hook of, you know, tough situations and get his team back in the dugout. [Applause] Here’s a 1-1. The shorts stop takes the ball. And that misses. Three and one. Three balls, one strike. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Batting second. First baseman Nolan Shan. So in now for the Angels, Nolan Shanowell. He’s been on fire at the dish lately. Hits in each of the last six games. Sanchez 28 years old and he was born in the Dominican Republic. Big swing and a miss. 01’s count. There’s a ball. [Applause] Sit him down. sets him down looking. Not sure about that call. Pitcher might have gotten a friendly strike three. Wow, that’s a tough call for the hitter, but the pitcher will take that all day long. Not quite in the strike zone, but he found a spot that the umpire is going to, at least for now, allow him to get that call. So, hitters going to have to make an adjustment, but pitchers are going to learn from those things and really try to exploit them if they can. Here’s Mike Trout fouled off. He was late. Check swing didn’t go. And that’s ball one. That’s big right there. Being able to check your swing. Think about the count swing. Instead of 02, he’s sitting 1-1 against a really good arm. Chop to the left side. And that’s fouled, man. At first, one away. Fights it off. You’ll see another. [Music] [Applause] Next pitch misses inside and that’s ball two. That one called just inside I think and on the mound. He’s trying to get a little bit of an explanation. Doesn’t seem to be too bothered by it though, but he clearly thought it clipped the corner. That one is absolutely belted. And that should be extra bases headed for the plate. He’ll score easily. Comes through with the RBI. Got a good pitch to drive. Stayed short with his bat path to the ball and caught it out front. And he stayed long in his follow through. That’s how you split the gap. And that’s pretty much a double every time. One out, runner at second. Here’s the left fielder, Taylor Ward. [Applause] And that’s through there for a strike. 41 hitters got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. That one close rule to ball and that’s ball one. [Applause] runner. He’s trying for third. That one fouled off. One out and a runner at second. Drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck. That’s back there. And it’s off the wall. Here comes Trout flying around third and he’s got himself a triple. He’ll score. That’s two consecutive extra base hits for this team. Just missed out on a whole run right there, but he certainly hit it hard enough. Just didn’t have the right launch angle to carry it over the wall, but still an excellent swing of the bat. One down, runner at third. Here’s Joe Adele. He’s been really clutch with runners in scoring position this season, so they’ll have to be extra careful in this matchup. Gets the slider in there for a strike. Oh, and one [Applause] that misses the zone. One and one. Ward stands at third with one gone to the inning. [Applause] Here comes a pitch. Fouls it off. Still one and two. [Applause] spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another. Also really good at bat. What I like about this guy, his bat stays in the zone for a long time. Gives him the ability to foul off tough pitches. Struck him out without a swing. went back to the change up and it was successful. Well, getting a good look at the pitcher here in the first inning isn’t a bad thing. I know he struck out, but you can live with that as long as the other hitters in this lineup can learn something from it. Here is Monado. Check swing. He went too far and it’s a strike. All one’s the count. Rudder at third. Two away. [Applause] And there’s a foul ball. [Applause] keeps the attack going with a foul ball. [Music] [Applause] Battling here as he fouls it away. [Applause] fouled off and they’ll do it again. That misses the zone. One and two to count. Excellent arm action on that two strike change up. Just missed. Man, he wanted that call. Pitch misses there. Two and two. Ninth pitch of the at bat. Do next. Swing and a miss. And that is that. So it’s two runs on two hits, no errors, and a runner left. On to the bottom of the first. Angels two and the Phillies coming up back here in Philadelphia. And on the mound in this one, Jake Eer. Base runners are tough to come by with him out there, Chris. Well, he’s been a real quality starter for his club. And coming into this one, what stands out for me is that right-handed hitters have really struggled batting below 200 on the year, it seems they have a hard time picking up his release point and tracking the ball into the zone. So, we’ll see how right-handers do against him in this one. Kyle Schwarber, the leadoff batter, as he looks at ball one. That’s a base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Yeah, baby. Benny, Trey Turner at the top, Trey Turner. [Applause] They had a foul ball. That one finds the corner and it’s 0 and two. Oh, this guy’s so comfortable hitting with two strikes. Even a good pitch early in the at bat, if he’s not ready to pull the trigger, he’s not worried if he gets to an 02 count to short. Could be two. Rehea for one. Throw to first, but he beat it. Batting third, first baseman, Bryce Harper. So, here is Bryce Harper. [Applause] Slice the other way and foul. That missed by a lot. One ball, one strike. Oh, he’s really working him away this at bat. sometimes take a little bit off velocity. Try to get a roll over something on the ground. Stay away from that big hole on the right side of the infield. Step off, throw to first and Turner’s back in. [Applause] The 1-1 and that is out of play. And it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Swing and a miss. Struck him out and Harper down on strikes. Boo gets talked about a lot, but a good high fast ball in a two strike situation, it’s just become such a problem for hitters in more recent years. I mean, with all of the emphasis by pitchers on developing that spin rate, having a good grip on the baseball, those high fast balls, they kind of look like to the hitter that they’re rising even though they’re not, but they’re not decreasing in velocity and spin rate. So, very difficult to get the barrel on it. Here’s Nicholas Castillianos swinging a miss as he was late. Oh and one struck him out looking. Philly strand one. They trail it here. Two nothing. Second inning set to go. Here’s the power hitting catcher, Logan. Hoppy Sanchez back to work. That one missed. [Music] One ball, one strike. And now two and one. just missed. Swing and that ball smashed on the line. March makes the catch and there’s one down eight right fielder Lamont Wade Jr. So, here’s Wade now. [Music] [Applause] First pitch doesn’t find his zone. And another ball. Hard hit left side. Throw picked it first. Got him. Good stretch there to make the play. It looks like someone added a little yoga to their daily routine if you ask me. Luis Rangifo the next to hit for the Angels. First off, and it just misses. Fought off. Foul. Two outs. Base is empty. inside. Just missed. [Applause] [Music] Pitch misses and now it’s three and two. Zack Neto on deck for the Angels. That one the other way. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So they make short work of him there. Now to the bottom of the second. Angels two and the Phillies nothing. And welcome back to the ballpark. Ready to go for the last half of the inning. So digging in now for Philadelphia. JT Real Muto. There’s the strike. Well, the key to his success is getting ahead early in the count. He cannot afford to go deep in the counts. Doesn’t have a ton of swing and miss stuff, so he’s going to have to work efficiently. Sneaks through base hit. Had a good start to the inning. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. Smash that one through the infield for the knock. When it’s hit that hard, it makes it very tough on the infielders to make any sort of play. This is Bryson stock. Yeah, that’s too high. Counts one and0. Rio Mutoo gets his lead at first. Nobody out. [Music] the bit behind with that swing. It’s strike one. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. That’s in there. Yeah, the count one and two the count. This one in the dirt. Rudder at first with no outs here. That wasn’t an easy pitch to hit. It’s much easier to do damage against mistakes, but that’s not what that pitch was. Here’s a high chopper. Off balance feed. There’s one to first. Not in time. Great effort there. So, here’s the Phillies DH. Come on. turned on but foul wide of third that misses the zone and that is ball one [Applause] right through there for a strike. Good pitch down around the knees. You want to be there all game in a park like this. A popup sometimes will carry out. Next offering is downstairs. [Applause] Got him looking. That’s a strike out. Brandon Marsh steps to the plate. [Music] All right, Brandon. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Snap throw to first. Back in safe. Really close. Next offering is in for a strike. Two outs. [Applause] Runner. Runner on the go. fouls one off. Two and two. [Music] Way high. Great RBI spot here. Just got to stay focused on the pitch. The runner will be in motion. So something in the gap should definitely score it. Foul. We’ll see another payoff pitch. cut on and lifted in the air. Adele makes the grab and that is that. One left for Philadelphia. They trail things here. Two nothing onto the third inning. And now here is Zack Neto. The shorts stop takes a ball. That one’s in there. And it’s one and one. and a swing to miss. One ball, two strike. Liner and this could be trouble. Makes the turn and heads for second. And he’s got a leadoff double all over that one right there. Other than ripping one into the gap or blasting one over the wall, there aren’t a whole lot of hits that are more satisfying than a nice line drive into center field. So, that definitely felt good. Runner in scoring position. No outs. Shanowell the next to hit. He was a strikeout victim his first time and that one fouled off. That one finds the zone and it’s 0 and two into center. Schwarber makes the play. Grounder tags at second and he makes it up to third with one away. Now batting the designated hitter, Mike Trout. And now batting, Mike Trout doubled his first time. The goal is to give your teammate a chance to score from third. There’s a few ways he can get it done, but his best chance is to drive one in the air. Look for the right pitch up and then smoke it. That one’s in there. going Chris through the early stages. He hasn’t been very efficient in terms of the pitch count. He’s going to need to get some quick outs if he’s going to get deeper into this game. Close, but call the ball and it’s one and one. It is interesting though when you consider the way the game is run now. Doesn’t even matter that much if your starter doesn’t go that deep because teams are really aggressively building their bullpens. That’s a base hit as a run scores. Really nice job of two strike hitting in that bat. That’s about as text as it gets. Got his stride and load out of the way early. He stayed inside that ball and squared it up out front. Man, that was like he was in the cage hitting off a tee. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So, we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. One down. And now it’s the Angels cleanup batter. Taylor Ward. Foul ball. He might want to steal second in this spot, but he’s dealing with a catcher that has one of the best pop times. Trout on the move. There’s a ball. Throw tag. Ow. A bullet from JT Rio Mutoo. That goes to show you stealing a base is a tough thing to do and far from a sure thing. Even with big time speed, it’s not easy to catch him, but that was a great catch and throw. Quick, not rushed and accurate. Two down to that misses and a count. Two and one. [Applause] Swang and a ball lifted in the air. Castanos gets under it and that is that. But the RBI single pushes across a run. It’s now 3 nothing. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show as we go to the last of the third. And here is Sosa to the plate. Sosa. First pitch misses. And that one missing low and it’s fouled away. Next offering is in for a strike. and downstairs. [Applause] He goes down looking. Back door cutter right there, if you will. And he got the call. According to the electronic strike zone, it was a little off the plate, but I’d say it was a nice job by the catcher just to receive that and present it to the umpire to make it look like it was a strike. It was that cutting action, I think, that helped it almost clip the corner. So, the Philly batting order turns over and Kyle Schwarber will come up. There’s the strike. [Applause] [Music] Now one and one. One out. Base is empty. Next offering is down low. That’s inside [Applause] right side. Showel and he takes it himself for the out. Now batting shorts stop Trey Turner. Two outs. Space is empty. Here’s Turner now. 0 for one. He hit into a fieldielder’s choice his first time. Tap foul at the plate. Two outs. And there’s a rocket into the outfield. Now he’ll turn for second and he’ll make it to second base with two gone. Everything came together for him. Nice job of driving that pitch the other way on a line. You know, hitters, they take so many reps in the cages, working on going to the opposite field, and it doesn’t always translate into the game, but right there it did. And he did it perfectly. [Applause] Bryce Harper up now. I think one of my favorite moments from his 2024 season was his soccer style celebration after he hit a home run in London. Is that when we went with the knee slide? Exactly. And really into it, too. He yelled, “I love soccer.” over and over while going through the high five line of the dugout. When in Rome, as they say, or London, here’s a high-fly ball out to center. Adele makes the grab and that is the third out of the inning. So, one hit is all they get. Three innings complete. It’s the Angels three and the Phillies nothing. Back at Citizens Bank, John Chambi with Chris Singleton. And set to lead off the fourth, Joe Adell. Get out of here, Angel. Missed with a change up. Ball one. [Music] And they’ll do it again. fights that one away. Still one and two. Well, he’s having a tough time getting a pitch by him. As a hitter, you feel pretty confident that you’re seeing different pitches still able to make some type of contact. That one ripped right center field. Gone. That one felt good. Home run number 20 on the year and they boost their lead. It’s 4 nothing. That one just sounded different and might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that swing from the booth. That’s an impressive swing of the bat to go over the wall to the opposite field gap. And you know, there are a lot of guys that just don’t have the pop to do that and probably just as many who don’t have the approach either. He let that ball travel and he got great extension on the follow through to drive it out of here. And now Yan Mona swinging a liner foul off to the right. Oh, you just got to delete it. You give up that leadoff home run. Go back to work. Focus on this next batter. Monata, 29 years old. He joined the team as a free agent. Hard on the ground to first. He steps on the bag. One away. That ground ball may have him back on track after the homer. Angels catcher Logan Ohappy. Logan Ohappy getting ready to hit. 0 for one so far. Let’s go Phillies. [Applause] And the first pitch misses for ball one. Some bullpen action for Philadelphia. Ranger Suarez getting loose out there. Kirkering the right-hander also getting loose. [Applause] There’s a swing and a drive. Going gone. It’s their second home run of the inning and they tack on to their lead. It’s five zip. Well, I’m sure there’s a big grin on his face right now, Boo. He’s probably had some of those that didn’t stay fair, but off the bat, it looked like he was going to foul. Was able to keep it in there, tucked it nicely, and he gets the jog around the bases. Good for him. And the Phillies manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make a move. Christopher Sanchez will depart and this is one he’d like to forget. Back with a new arm after this. Left-hander out of the bullpen, Ranger Suarez. Stole the ball very well overall this season. He’s been really tough to get to. You see that erra and that’s where you love to be. Here’s Lamont Wade Jr. He’s 0 for one [Applause] outside low ball one. Still only one out here in the inning. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. Makes the grab on the run. Two away. That’s just a really nice catch on the run right there. He saved extra bases for sure. The pitcher’s his friend. He’ll give him a second to catch his breath before he’s ready to deal the next pitch. Ranifo the next to hit takes ball one [Applause] and now two and nothing. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. [Applause] And another ball. Well, I would expect in this three-0 count, you’re taking all the way. See if he’ll walk you. Zack Neto up next for the Angels. And he walked him on four pitches. That just came apart right there. Four pitch walk and guy at the plate was not going to help him out by swinging something out of his own. So the lineup flips over. Here’s the shortstop at the play. Zack Neto right through there for a strike. Next offering is fouled back. Ringo off of first with two away. [Music] [Applause] Swinging a ground ball up the middle. The throw to first. That’s out number three. But two round tripers in this inning. The long ball was working and the lead is now 5 nothing. It’s Major League Baseball and it’s on the show. Back here in Philadelphia. Nick Castanos at the plate now. Right fielder Nick Castanos. That misses. That’s ball one. He’s been pitching well, but we’ll see what kind of adjustment the hitters make this second time through the order. We’ll know if he’s got really good stuff in this one or not. That’s a little bit low. [Applause] Swing and a miss. It’s two and two. Spin rates outstanding on that high fast ball. Really tough to hit. Next pitch misses and that’s ball three. Really good take especially with two strikes. That one misses. So a lead off walk. Man, that’s a tough one to take on the full count, but I guess he saw it really well. It’s a really nice plate appearance. Here’s JT. Real Muto one for one with a single so far. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. Phillies. And a swing and a miss there. One and one. Phillies. The one-1 is fouled off. Nobody out. Runner at first. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. Squeezes it. One down. Well, that’s a frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter right there. I mean, that pitch was right down the middle. I think he got a little too excited, came out of his mechanics, and instead of driving that ball somewhere, he popped it up. Unfortunate for him. And that one is lifted in the air. Wade snags it for the second out. Maybe caught that one off the end just a little bit. couldn’t quite barrel it up enough to really drive it. Here’s the Phillies. DH struck out looking at his first at bat. got the bat going too soon. It’s strike two. Two strikes. The Halos leading by five. We’re here in the bottom of the fourth. the other way and that’s a base hit. They stop the lead runner at second. Now two on with two outs. Oh, that’s two strike hidden right there. He did well just to put the ball in play. Could be a chance here for them to start clawing back into this ball game. Now the left fielder Brandon March up and in. One and0. [Music] That one missed. Tough spot right here. Couple runners on. Two ball count. You can’t nibble, but you have to execute and finish your pitch. If you leave something out over the plate, it’s going to bring in some runs. Two on, two outs. Hey, [Music] swings through that one. Two two count. Swing and a miss. And he’s down on strikes. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. Phillies leave a couple. Still looking at that five nothing deficit. Back here. Citizens Bank Park ready now for the fifth inning. So in for the Angels. Nolan Shanuel Suarez back to work and immediately pumps in a strike to the left-handed hitter. You know, these Angels digging into their numbers have to be happy with the swings they’re taking. They have five extra base hits on the stat sheet so far, and that tells me they’re seeing the ball out of the pitcher hand really well. With all those extra base hits, it’s easy to think we’re going to see that trend continue the rest of the game. They seem to be really locked in at the plate. Hacks and misses. It’s a strike out. Well, that’s a blue zone right there or the cold zone on the hitting chart. just doesn’t have much success in that part of the strike zone. And a really good job of the pitcher executing. Try to go there as often as you can. The numbers are in your favor. That one in there to Mike Trrowley. Base is empty, one away. And we’re at the top of the fifth. And he’s down 02 as he swings through it. Good late sink on that fast ball out of the hand. Looks so good. And then by the time he gets in the hitting zone, hard to get the barrel to it. The O2 strike three and that’s two in a row. Now batting left fielder, Taylor Ward will hit next. A former first round pick and he’s really turned into a nice everyday player. swing and a ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit and that keeps the inning going. Up next for the Angels. And now Joe Adell. He’s already homerred here in this one. First pitch and he just misses. Two outs. Foul ball there in the dirt. Ward off of first with two away. [Music] Hard grounder into the outfield for a knock. Throw in holds the lead runner at second. Two on now with two away. Now batting third base Yan Mona. Here is Yoan Monata. He’s been a great free agent side. Ball one there. 10. Two aboard, two outs. Just off the inside edge. He’s getting a little frustrated out there on the mound getting hit around a little bit. Let’s see if he can settle himself down. That one’s spoiled and the count now two and one. Let’s go. Two on, two outs. Swing and a miss. Suarez strikes him out. Angels strand a couple, but they hold a five nothing lead. And we’re back. Bottom of the inning. And now for the Phillies. Edmundo Sosa. There’s a strike. You know, these Phils just aren’t putting great swings on the baseball in this one. Just one extra base hit for them. So, they haven’t exactly been hitting the ball gap to gap or out of the park. That makes it really difficult to generate runs. And that one is downstairs. And the count is one and one. One strike. Swings through that. One ball, two strike. gets a piece there. We’ll do it again. [Music] Just off the outside part of the plate. [Music] That misses and a full countdown. That one misses. So a lead off walk now. Batting Kyle Schwarber comes up to hit here. He’s not going to get cheated up there. No, he’s not. He’s looking to do damage with every swing he takes. check swing. He held up and it’s one and0. [Applause] Can’t find it here. That’s six straight balls. [Applause] Swinging a foul out of play [Music] and ball four to a board. His ability to draw walks has been something that’s been part of his career since day one. Trey, first and second, no outs. Here’s Trey Turner, one for two. [Applause] Turner tries to hold up appeal to first and he went around says Ricky Holiday in the air out towards right center. Wade on the move to the alley and he makes the catch. Runner tags at second and the throws offline. Safe at third. Now batting first baseman Bryce Harper. Here’s Harper now 0 for two in this one. We need a base here out towards right center. That’s well struck into the bullpin and gone. And they throw three on the board. It’s 53. That’s exactly what this crowd wanted to see in this spot. He blasted that pitch. [Applause] Oh, that one got in the jetream on a line drive. We saw the numbers on the backs of the jerseys of the outfielders, which is usually bad news. And all of a sudden, they’re back in this ball game. The batter now, Nick Castanos right through there for a strike. Oh, one’s the count. The Phils down by a pair. Last half of inning number five. on the ground to third sends it to first and Castanos is out. Now batting catcher JT Riuto and now it’s JT Riom Muto. It’s interesting he plays kind of a a power spot defensively but runs pretty well. So when you’re looking at that position, you’re not expecting someone that has maybe above average speed, but he does. just missed. And I think that skill set really upgrades the position because when you have that kind of speed, it makes the whole team that much better. Pitch misses and that’s ball three. What about him playing another position on defense, one that would require a little more range. Absolutely. And I think if push came to shove where they had to make a a move during a game, it’d surprise a lot of people. You might even be able to put him in center field. Highfly ball lifted in the air right field. Wade makes the grab and that’s the inning. Bryce Harper brings the power for Philly. It’s now 53. You’re watching Major League Baseball on the show back here in Philadelphia. And here’s the catcher, Logan Ohappy. [Music] First off, and it just misses. Double barrel action in the bullpen. Matt Strom the left-hander up and throwing. Kirkering getting loose as well. Billy swing and he breaks his bat and they tag him out. Now batting right fielder Lamont Wade Jr. Now it’s the right fielder Lamont Wade Jr. A swing and a miss. And that’s strike one. 0 and one. [Applause] Chopped left side. Two down. Got him. Now batting second baseman Luis Rehifo. Luis Reanifo. The next to hit for the Angels. That clips the corner. [Applause] The next offering misses and now it’s even one and one. Two down, nobody on. And we’re the top half of the sixth. Foul ball still a one and two count. And a foul ball. He stays alive. fights it off. He’ll see another two down on next offering is outside. Swing and a ball ripped out towards right center field. That’ll touch down for a hit around first and hustling for second. The throw in. Not going to get him. He’s in there. Just one of those at bats you almost hate to see come to an end. Showed a willingness to drive that pitch the opposite way. Didn’t get jumpy. Didn’t try to pull the ball. He let it get deep. Took the barrel right to it and then extended through the swing for the line drive base hit. And here is Zack intentional walk here with two out. They set up a force at any base to end the inning. Now batting the first baseman Nolan Shadowell. Now the number two hitter Nolan Showell 0 for three in this one. That catches the corner. Well, sometimes as left-handed hitter, you know, you’re going to see at least one or two breaking balls in the at bat. So why not go up there ready to hit that first one? Just couldn’t barrel that one up. slings it across and that is that. No runs, a hit, two left. 67 82 in the bottom of the six. Angels five and the Phillies three. Back now for the bottom of the sixth and there’s a new pitcher on the mound, Jose Soraniano. Still a lot of game left and this game could go either way. So, this is a big opportunity for him to get some important outs and try to help carry this lead into the later innings. Phillies up for the third time here. Watches that one miss. Activity in the bullpen for the Angels. Carson Fulmer preparing to come on if needed. Deetmers also throwing. with right field. That’s back there. That one way back and it’s gone. [Applause] His seventh home run of the season is 54. He just sent this stadium into a frenzy. They’re going nuts. [Applause] Most times it’s the pitcher looking at the scoreboard for velocity, but in this case it’s the hitter. He just turned around triple digits at the dish. I don’t even know how he saw that pitch. Maybe he didn’t, but he got a home run out of it. So here’s the Phillies DH. [Applause] base hit right field. Well, clearly he was ready to hit right there. Anytime you rip a line the other way, you feel really good about what you did at the plate. You trusted your hands. You let the ball travel and you took the barrel straight to it. That’s great work right there. And now a chance to maybe get creative on offense with good speed on first. No outs. runner at first and digging in for Philadelphia, Brandon March. And that one fouled off. [Music] [Applause] That’s inside. And that’s ball one. [Applause] And that’s down and away. Way to lay off that pitch down. [Applause] Hit in the air left field and there’s one down. Now batting third baseman Edmundo Sosa and stepping in is the speedy Edmundo Sosa. He is struck out and he is walked. [Applause] just missed [Applause] outside low and that’s ball two. Chris with that distraction and a speedy guy at first, he’s in a favorable hitter’s count. Well, if nothing else, I mean, this is a great spot for a hitter to be in with the go-ahead run at the plate here in the bottom of the six. lifted in the air right center field. No trouble here. Puts it away for the out. Two down. Now the Angels manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pan. Jose Soraniano departs and he leaves in a one-run game. New pitcher coming on. We’ll be back in a minute. Now pitching for the new pitcher in the game for the Angels, Rock. And this is an important part of this game. Tight score and still a lot of outs to get. So they’re looking for a big outing out of him right here to get some critical outs. Stepping in the long ball threat. Kyle Schwarber. Look out here. He doesn’t come up ready to swing in this situation. [Applause] check swing and he went. That’s strike one. All one’s the count [Applause] on the corner for a strike. [Applause] swing and a miss struck him out. But the Phils edge closer on this solo homer. It’s down to one at 54. Back after this on the show. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Orion Kirk. And compared to a lot of other relievers, strikeouts have not been a big weapon for him this year. So, the defense should be active. Here’s Trout outfield deep here trying to prevent anything over their heads. He is quite an athlete. I mean, you look around the other sports, basketball, football, you feel like he could thrive in one of those sports, too. Right through there for a strike. And strike two. [Applause] Bounce to third. sends it across to first and the leadoff hitter set down to open the seventh. Now batting left fielder Taylor Ward and next will be the cleanup hitter Taylor Ward. Taken high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. Yeah, that’s fouled off. caught him looking for the K. Well, he went up there trying to be aggressive, that’s for sure. Hacking at those first two pitches, but clearly that last one fooled him. He could have been sitting on something else entirely, but you want to be able to adjust on 0 and two and at least get a swing off when it’s in the zone. Maybe choke up, maybe spread out your stance a little bit. You got to give the guy credit on the mound though. He went right after him. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. Strike two. This guy’s sink has so much drop in it. It’s almost like a split finger fast ball. Instead of just weak contact and balls on the ground, he gets swings and misses. Two outs. Drilled in the air. High and deep right field. That one is back. Forget it. Another homer. His second home run of the game. And they add on. It’s 64. Boo. I wasn’t sure he hit that one as hard as he needed to to get it out of here, but it had just enough behind it for the homer. What an attempt at the wall, though. He really gave a terrific effort to try and bring that one back. Here comes Yan Mona 0 for three with two strikeouts and a ground out. That one finds the zone and that’s strike one. [Music] [Applause] Check swing. Did he go? Yes, he did. No balls, two strikes. Two down, base is empty, but one run across here in the top half of inning number seven. [Applause] up the middle and a base hit right there. Just kind of sliced that one into center. Now batting catcher Logan Ohappy. So up next, Logan Ohappy. He’s already homerred in this game. Right through there for a strike. Mona the runner at first with two gone. [Applause] Just missed. And that’s off the inside edge. Ball two. [Applause] Swang and a miss. Back to the mound. He’s got it. Over to first. Third out. That ends the frame. But the solo shot stretches their lead even further. It’s a two-run lead now at 64. You’re watching Major League Baseball exclusively on the show. Set for the last half of the seventh. So digging in now for Philadelphia, Trey Turner. Trey Turner. That’s hard hit on the line. Ward makes the grab. One away. Now batting the first baseman, Bryce Harper. So Harper stands in the first overall pick back in 2010. Bird 28 years old and he found his way onto the team after being claimed off waiverss. Pitch is in there. That’s strike one. Late in the game, everyone gets a little tighter. Way to get ahead on a really good hitter right there. Base is empty. One away. The bottom of the seventh. That one ripped and that should be extra bases around first. Heading for two in safely. It’s a double and his second hit. He was all over that one. Pitch was on the outside. Didn’t go the other way with it, but still a nice job of using the big part of the field to find the hole. No way he hits it that well if he hooks around the baseball there. Really important at bat coming up now. manager out of the dugout and he’s going to make a change. Brock Burke done for the afternoon and he’s responsible for the runner on second, so the book isn’t closed on him yet. We’ll be right back. Now pitching for Carson Fulmer comes on now. Well, the best relievers love the opportunity to come in and protect a tight lead late in the ball game. Some of them are just wired different. So, we’ll see what he’s got here. One out, runner at second. Next to hit, Nick Castanos. [Applause] Fouled off down the right side. [Applause] got him swinging. Oh, that slider down and away. It’s just kind of a slow. Two strikes you’re looking to protect and halfway to the plate, you know you’ve committed and you know you’re going to have no chance of touching it. Tell you what, sometimes you just have to tip your cap. That’ll bring up JT Real Muto. One for three. Swung on. Belted going back on this one. Gone. He’ll take a jog around the bases. It’s his sixth home run of the season and we are tied. It’s 66. Listen to these fans. This place is absolutely buzzing right now. You can feel the energy all the way up here in our broadcast booth. [Applause] What an incredible momentum swing on that home run, boo. I mean, it’s late in the game. Just barely stayed fair and ties up the ball game. Impressive. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Here’s the second baseman, Bryson Stock, and a breaking ball drops in for a strike. Trying to keep good speed off the bases. [Applause] And that one sliced fouled [Applause] outside now. One and two. [Applause] And there’s a ball. Just a slow ground ball this time. He beats it out and the tapper turns into an infield single. Big knock there to keep the inning alive and an opportunity to put something in the gap and give the Phillies the lead. Two out runner at first and next is the designated hitter. And that’s in for a strike. It’s 0 and one. If you’re a base runner, you got to stay dialed in here. Look for anything in the dirt. Try your best to get in scoring position. [Applause] And now it’s even up. Good spot there, but didn’t get the strike at the knees. And doesn’t seem too convinced by the call out there on the mound as he tries to get a better sense of the umpire strike zone. Here goes the runner. Pitches low. Throw save. Now a good opportunity to potentially jump ahead in this game here in the later innings. That was close, but Stackcast shows us why he so often seems to be on the safe side of these steel attempts, Chris. Yeah, you see that plus speed and he needed every last bit of it to swipe that bag. Such a threat on the bases. Man, it’s second. This to third. It’s in and out of his glove. Still able to fire over and save. It was never going to be easy after this play, but I think he got a little casual on that play and took it for granted a little bit. So maybe just as much of a mental mistake as a physical one. And with two outs, that’s a tough one to swallow for the entire defense. So digging in, Brandon March, 0 for three with two flyyous and a strikeout. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. [Applause] Cut on and lifted in the air. We on his way over. Brings it in. And that ends the inning. But this clutch home run gets us even again. And we’re all even now at six apiece. Welcome back and a new arm on the mound to start the eighth. Max Lazar. Well, he’s been excellent against left-handed hitters this year and that’s his first test. This looks like a good move to the pin in terms of the matchup. So, in for the Angels, Lamont Wade Jun Lamont Wade Jr. [Applause] First pitch misses. Activity in the bullpen. Jordan Romano, the closer of the staff, is throwing. Banks, a left-hander, also throwing. That clips the zone and the count even at one. Backto-back fast balls in. That last one called for a strike. probably go away, but look for him to come back in there to try to finish you off. Next offer, he’s in for a strike. Well, that’s really the money spot down and away. If you can locate that consistently, it’s going to be real tough for hitters to square that off. That’s what you’d love to see relievers do coming out of that bullpen. Swing and a miss. Adam out front for the strike out. Now it’s the second base, Luis Rango. Right through there for a strike. There’s a strike quickly in an 02 hole. You’re going to have to give something up here in terms of power if you want to put the ball in play with any authority. inside. Ball one. Misses outside. Two and two. All tied up. And we’re in the top of the eighth. [Music] Liner. And this could be trouble. and he’s into second base with one away as the go ahead run. Couple of hits in a row for him here. Nice line drive to the pull side, met it out front, but just stayed through it nice enough and ripped it into the outfield. And a huge opportunity now to grab the lead at this point in the game. So up next, Zack Neto and the first pitch misses for ball one. One out. The go-ahead run is at second. [Applause] Next pitch is outside. Well, this is a little tough for the hitter in the back of the mind. You’re wondering with first base open, am I going to get a pitch to hit? Got to stay back. Let your hands work. Stay in the middle of the field. man at second and that is out of play. [Applause] That one just misses. That pitch was pretty borderline at the top of the zone and he’s not digging the call out there on the mound. Clearly pretty frustrated so he’s going to have to collect himself a little. Philly’s fans want a strike out and ball four to a board. Well, they didn’t give him anything to hit and now with runners on first and second, they’ve set up a double play opportunity. So, not a terrible result. And here’s the first baseman, Nolan Showell. I’m curious how he decides to attack on the mound. This guy at the plate has been great hitting under pressure this year. Definitely wants to stay out of the double play here. Ball on the ground in the infield. Should be an inning ending double play. And that misses ball one. Well, this is a critical spot for both the pitcher and the hitter. You can learn a lot about a guy by how he handles these pressure situations. [Applause] The one fought off foul. The last thing he wants is to hit the ball on the ground, but I wouldn’t expect many pitches up in the zone. They’ll be pitching for a double play in this spot now. And in there across the letters, really going after him here. All fast balls to get ahead in the count. Swaging a ball hit out towards left center field. Marsh makes a nice running catch. Well, those can be pretty fun as an outfielder. got to put it into his highest gear and go a long way to track that one down. Nothing better than that. You feel like a wide receiver playing football. Now Trout gets a chance to hit. Outfield playing very deep, not wanting anything over their heads. [Applause] This one belted deep left field on its way gone. [Music] He flexes his power with that swing and they lead it. It’s 96. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop and they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dish. When you’re working with this kind of velocity, so critical that you move the ball around, work quickly, and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance. Clearly not fooled by the location or the velocity. He was all over that fast ball. And the Phillies manager making his way towards the mound now as he will make a move. Max Lazar gives way. It’s a three-run game. and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Now pitching. Well, new pitcher will be the lefty Matt Stro. And we all know about his slider. It’s just filthy, man. And one of the better ones in the game, I’d say. Spin rate’s very high and it just breaks a ton. And next for the Angels, Taylor Ward. [Applause] And a foul ball. [Applause] Next pitch is downstairs. [Applause] The 1-1 is fouled off. [Applause] Two down. Do on. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. Couldn’t catch up to the heater. Angels had three on this blast. It’s now 96. Major League Baseball is on the show. And welcome back to the ballpark. Bottom of the eighth. Here’s the third baseman. Edmundo Sosa Fulmer back to work. Well, it’s critical right here that they bear down and turn in some quality at bats. Try to chip away at that lead because if it gets to the ninth, that closer’s coming in. Yo, one swinging a foul straight back. 0 and2 now. Stays alive. [Music] One ball, two strike. This one popped up. Foul ground first base side. Makes the grab. One down. Now batting center fielder Kyle Schwarber. Kyle Schwarber stands in for the Phillies. Three pitch strikeout last time up. Got to put up more of a fight in this one. And takes low for ball one. The Angels leading by three here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Next offering is fouled back. Hard ground ball base knock. So a man aboard now with one away. Now batting. There’s nothing cheap about the way he got that one through the infield. That was ripped. Caught out in front and didn’t get under it like he would have liked, but definitely put a good swing on it. Trey Turner now highf fly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. Schwarber the base runner at first with one out. [Music] Come on. and [Applause] [Music] the one-1 is fouled off. Fouls that off to the left and will do it again. The short stop takes the ball. Well, this is a guy that can be frustrating for pitchers because he fouls off so many pitches and grinds out the atbat. I’m sure there’s sometimes where a pitch would rather just give up a first pitch single than have to waste six or seven pitches on one hitter. [Applause] spoils a two strike pitch and he’ll see another pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and miss. Third foul ball in a row. And now it’s filled up. [Applause] keeps the atbat going with a foul ball, gets a piece and stays alive. I I don’t know how this at bat will end, but I’ll be sad when it does. So much fun watching this thing go back and forth. Battling here as he fouls it away. I’ll tell you, with pitch counts being such a big consideration in today’s game, an amazing fight at the plate like this ends up being incredibly valuable. Running that pitch count up, no matter what the result ends up being, he’s going to get a lot of high fives in the dugout. They fired in quickly, so it’s first and second with only one away. Well, wore him down after an extended plate appearance. It ends with a knock. At that point in bat for a hitter, when you’ve seen that many pitches, you’ve gotten a look, you fouled off pitches. So, the confidence level is extremely high and it seems like when you go that deep into an at bat, the hitter usually comes out on top. Now, the Angels manager is out of the dugout and he’ll make a move to the pen. Carson Fulmer is done and the line not closed on him yet as he’s responsible for the runners on base. Back with a new pitcher after this. So, the Angels turn to their bullpen for a new pitcher, Sam Bachmann. Here comes the always dangerous Bryce Harper in a big situation. Fast ball for a strike and it’s 0 and one. Got to keep things airtight defensively right here. On your toes, ready to make a play. If you can get this to the ninth with a three-run lead, it should be a W. [Applause] Tying run at the plate. Ripped to short, fired to second. And that’s quick work out of the pen. One batter, two outs in and over. They made it look easy, but it started with a nice feed to the second baseman from the shortstop. Perfect turn and they’re out of this jam. And next for LA, Joe Adell. And everyone is thinking the same thing right now. Yeah, they’re thinking, will he do it again? He’s already homerred twice and most recently in the seventh. This guy’s left a huge mark on this game as well as on the baseball. [Applause] Fast for a strike stirring in the Phillies bullpen. Daniel Robert getting ready to go. [Applause] That one pushed foul. Well, he missed a hitable off speed pitch right there. Not sure exactly what the timing. Sometimes you get a backup breaking ball. You’re expecting it to make its move at the end. It never does and you’re tied up. And down on strikes and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. And now it’s going to be Yan Mona. [Applause] And that one ripped into right. Hauls it in. Three out. Out number two. Man, that’s one of those bouts where you have to remind yourself it’s about the process. He did everything right right there. Nothing to show for it, but in your mind, you have to convince yourself that it was a very good at bat. [Applause] in the air, left field, down the line. Marsh makes the grab and that’ll end the inning. No runs, no hits, no errors. Onto the bottom of inning number nine. 456 coming up. It’s the Angels nine and the Philly six. We’re back and on the mound is the closer Kenley Jansen. He last pitched two days ago. Number 74 Kinley Jansen. So here’s the cleanup hitter Nick Castanos. Philly right fielder Nick Castanos. [Applause] Swang and a high-fly ball pulled foul and that’s out of play. [Applause] Ground ball up the middle. Fires to first on the run. It’s there. And that’s a great play. If you want to be a great defense, you have to deliver consistently. It doesn’t matter how many highlight reel plays you make if you can’t execute the small stuff. Just like we saw, he’s two outs away. And now it is JT Rio Mutoo. Strike one. Wow. No fair right there. I mean, that slider didn’t move till the very last moment. Incredibly difficult to pick that up. Just going to have to tip your cap on that pitch. Jansen fires in the air right field. Wade pulls it in for the out. Two up, two down. Now, batty. Second baseman, Bryson Sto. So, they’re down to their final out. Here’s the second baseman, Bryson Stock. We talk about guys with good speed, and definitely he has it. But pushing the offensive side for just a second, Chris, it’s the defensive side that I think the speed factors in the most. Not close with that one. And that is ball one. [Applause] And another ball. Well, he gets to balls that get by most people at that position. Just really impressive because there’s certain times a ball comes off the bat automatically that team that hit it thinks that they’ve got a base hit or they may have extra bases and he just takes it away. Swing and a popup. Foul territory for the catcher. He’s got it. Ball game and the Angels slug their way to a win in this one. Well, this was a total team effort using six pitchers in this ball game to get the win. Outstanding job of passing the baton, the next pitcher stepping up and getting it done. You got to give them a lot of credit cuz this is not easy to do. We’ll see how it affects them over the next couple of days.
