Padres vs. Reds Game Highlights (6/29/25) | MLB Highlights
Red legs trying to take a rare series for the Padres going back to 2012. They have only won a series against the Padres on the season once that came back in the 2019 campaign, nick Lodolo to the mound for 1/17 time this year. And I think we’re still all just waiting for that signature. Nick Lodolo start stands in on the left side. Lodolo ready to work and the first pitch of this one is grounded on two hops to the first baseman. Steer. He tags back. Number one, here’s Manny Machado bounced over Lodolo mclean behind the bag, Machado jogging down gingerly two down Jackson Merrill and it’s hit the pitch in on the hands of the top of the right hand. That’s not a good area. Not a lot of padding up there. That’s the 11th hit batsman from Lodolo this year 11. His goes to 11. What’s that? Tell you? Well, likes to pitch in. Here’s Fernando Tatis Junior. Tatis junior swings the first offering hits a high bouncer to lie. He gloves and throws in time. Tatis is out and they do it for the Padres in the first on the, for the time for a bounce back outing four and a third last time out given up five runs for stephen four were earned in making his 11th start. Two batters two ground out to the second baseman de La Cruz who snapped his seven game hitting streak yesterday going zero for three and he spins out of the way of strike three first strikeout of the day for coli it frozen a 1 to 2 to 3 1st inning and Bogaerts will a leadoff. She Iglesias to follow down the left field line. This one is headed back to the wall and is going to be a double and with a double to start in the second inning. So, wouldn’t it just be so fitting? You have one ball that was a one handed swing that was just luke to left field that ends up bouncing over the left field wall for a ground rule double and Then you have two hard hit line drives that both go for outs. It just, just not fair where it stands in hard ground ball to third good backhand. Ce S Bogart stops for some reason. Throw to first has thrown 19 pitches to get through the first two innings. See if he can keep that rolling here. Diaz though. He did not start either of the first two games came off the bench both times and had an important A B certainly in the 81 loss on Friday night broke up the no hitter swing and a miss got him. Diaz down on strike one down here in the third four in a row. Now retired by Lodolo lefty to lefty against to left and on the can’t catch it. It’s off his glove. He got some leather on it. Heading to second base is a and he’ll get there standing looked like Lux was going to make that play. He was there but couldn’t catch it. Machado with a walk. The first walk allowed by Lodolo but now two on and one out for Merrill who was hit by a pitch first pitch, his first timer swung through strike three, second strike out for Lolo. Now he’s got to get Tatis strike three right over the outside corner knee high to watching and the inning is over. Padres have a couple of hits. Reds have won. It’s been primarily a pitching dominated game so far. No scores and Bogaerts leads off against Nick Lodolo. Second time Zanders come up to begin an inning. Fly ball to left field back goes gavin looks, he is looking up and that is gone. Sam Boga with his fifth home run of the year puts the Padres on top one to nothing. You hang it. He bang it curveball left up in the zone and the second extra base hit for Xander Bogart. Bogart comes via the home run, chopped right side and topspin gets away from mclean into the right field. A base hit for Gavin sheets and his throw back in gets away. So sheets will take second base. He said that an error charged to the right fielder. Will Benson Iglesias has lined to right. Gives himself up Lodolo gathers fired play out at third base. Nicely done. Take that trade. Now, Jake Cronenworth with the runner at first and one out and a swing and a miss and a slow breaking ball right there. Boy, that is a thing of beauty, is Mick Lodolo dropped the old Lord Charles on him and got him out there hacking Iglesias kind of goes swing to three. That is five of them in the ball game for Lodolo. But in the inning, they score a run on a home run by Xander Bogar. It’s one, Padre Koe looks a lot more polished today and now stephen kick pitching with a lot of confidence, got the punch out on the high heater and a little strut around the mound after he got lux to swing through it for out. Number one, I like it. One out. Nobody on steer will be the batter away and steer walks. So the only red to reach so far against kick is steer, but it seems like catchers are always the guys who, uh, you get it to hit it on the ground and, uh, with one out, there’s a good chance can turn chop to third. Iglesias will go to second base for one on to first. Wow. Sorry about calling it, huh? 543 on the inning ending double play, the catcher grounding into it and back to back singles to begin the top of the sixth inning. 1st and 2nd. Nobody out for Jake Cron dropped down the third baseline strand his throw is in. That’s going to be it for Nick Lodolo. Francona will take the ball from Lodolo at 95 pitches today and one out the Diaz will stand in to oppose the new pitcher right hander Scott Barlow lifted right side. Benson jockeying in with momentum. No tag. Benson makes the glove sheets took a large lead off third in case it was missed two down. Lara walks for the second time and now the bases are loaded for Manny Machado. Pops him up, Trevino. Still one nothing San Diego as we go to the red six Reds got to figure this guy out. Stephen Collis done a nice job against the Reds. So far today, Benson swings and serves a flare in the left field that’s down for a base hit and the Reds have their leadoff man aboard for the first time today and it comes here in the sixth inning, the big double play to get out of trouble last inning, a chance at another one here. Runner on first one out for Friedel fly ball, center field, Merrill going back, still going to the to make the catch that one almost got to the wall and back to first goes, Benson Friedel sending it a long way to center but back there quickly is Jackson Merrill to make the catch now, Matt mclean who was grounded out twice, bounced up the middle backhand against the great topor. No chance infield hit for mcclean. Thanks it up to second de La Cruz will stand in. It’s going to be the day for him. 71 pitches. That is the day for calling left hander, Adrian Morty home into the ball games making his 40th appearance of the year grounded first pitch left side and throws out for Benson Scop for left by Shes. He’s getting hot right side. He just a little bit of a hopper right into that 5.5 hole between the third baseman and the shortstop that puts the Reds on the board and ties this baby up. Well outside in a four pitch walk to Tatis. That is the third walk issued on four pitches today by the Reds and this one a dangerous one as Bogaerts comes up. Zanders driven in the only Padre run today with that homer in the fourth inning. He’s also doubled leading off the second on the ground to third and eats up and Strand gets in the foul ground. Fernando’s headed for third going to second is Bogaerts. He’ll get their standing. Talk about a break, huh? 102 off the bat. And I think Encarnacion Stran was kind of in between and the backhand this just eats him up. It’ll go down as a double. So they’re gonna walk sheets intentionally and here comes Terry Francona, they load the bases. Jose Iglesias do up. Terry Francona is going to the mound to call upon Tony Santia. Jose bounced over the mound charged by mclean at second clips to second one de la CTA first not in time. Tatis able to come in and score and Jose Iglesias Fielder’s choice Iglesias legs out the back half to comes in to score and the Padres lead to one Benson and Carnac on Strand and Friedel 89 and one coming up against the Padres set up guy Adams struck out Benson looking yesterday we head to right center that’s down in the gap to the wall. Benson up to second Tatis brief bobble double for Benson. Get yourself in scoring position late in the ball game excellent in the air center field, Merrill going back deep on the track makes the glove tag at second by Benson. He’s got third out of slide productive out tying run 90 ft away with one away back to the top of the order. Now TJ Friedel on the ground to first base will tag him and look Benson back to third big out two down. That’s matt mclean singled up the middle his last time. He’s one for three man strikes out and a out of the jam Benson at third base. Huge strikeout. Yes, it’s on the slider now we go to the bottom of the ninth. Potter’s 2 to 1 lead. Turn it over to Robert Suarez. You got to be happy with the guys that you have coming up in this inning. If you’re the Reds inning with the guy at the plate right now. De La Cruz to Wade de la Cruz is on, looks like there may have been some English on this ball right here. That will be an E five that walk forces Ellie into scoring position at second and it puts the winning run aboard and here comes Spencer, steer center field base hit charge. Wave is on set up. I’ll steer liner to center field to draw the Reds even. And the throw to the plate, I thinks in time it’s just a little too high locks the winning run off second base Trevino base that right field stops on and I think that’s wise that’s a good throw to the plate. Tatis has arguably a better arm than Merrill bases loaded. Will Benson a strikeout his first time up since he singled and scored the Reds first run in the sixth, doubled leading off the eighth but was stranded at third. He’s got a chance to win it here and the Reds walk off with a series victory over the Padres. Well, Benson gets it done two in the ninth off the Padres closer and the Reds win it this afternoon. 3 to 2
