山本由伸が5回1安打無失点!たった56球の“超効率ピッチ”に解説陣も驚愕! “始球式の主役”にスタンド大歓声「今日イチ盛り上がった」
[Music] yoshino Yamamoto makes his final start of June tonight in Colorado he’s been feeling his first June gloom as you if you will as a resident California his first 11 starts this year had six wins cruised to a 1.97 ERA the whip was under one but in the four starts this month Yamamoto’s 0 and3 the RA 5.23 the width is 1.65 and look at the opponent’s batting average it’s increased more than 120 points while his strikeout to walk ratio has almost doubled in June now last night Dave Roberts said he wants Yoshi to get back to being Yoshi jerry why do you think he has been a little bit off this month well I think he’s been trying to be too fine around the plate you know trying to hit corners and then he falls behind and when he falls behind he’s got to give in and before you know it Bigly Higgers are squaring him up he’s got to get back to strike one getting ahead of the count using his breaking the ball more maybe not more tonight in Colorado but as the season goes on use all his pitches but pitch right there getting behind the count has to come in and give in big league hitters could hit 2-1 3-1 20 got to work ahead well giving up nine home runs four of them have come this month so he’s obviously giving up a long ball you know it’s not necessarily walking a whole lot but I think Jerry touched on it you know we’ve also heard Dave Robertson I think he’s trying to be too edgy which you know trying to catch the corner so much trying to really be on the edge and then next thing you know now you’re going deep in the counts that’s one thing yeah may not be walking a lot but he’s had a lot of 3-2 counts on a lot of hitters as well so he’s getting deep in the count not being as efficient rather than really focusing more on just strike one i think his strike uh first pitch strike percentage is critical i think that has gone down as well over the course of this month as what we’ve seen earlier when he does that then it allows him to be more efficient then it allows him to maybe be more edgy when you’re ahead of the count and trying to do that rather than trying to do that so early trust that his stuff plays at this even if it catches more the plate not necessarily right on the corner but just a hair on the plate is going to be okay because he has that movement
in case anybody has been wondering Yoshi Nou Yamamoto has made one start in the thin air of Colorado he gave up two runs in five innings last September he got a win in his Korsfield debut tonight he looks to pick up his first win in a month as we head back to Colorado kristen joins us again live with more on Yoshi hi Kirsten hi John yeah so for Yoshi Noble he’s coming off of back-to-back losses for the first time in his career so when you look at this this month of June things haven’t necessarily been ideal for him so I’m sure he’s ready to turn the page to July but he does want to end it on a high note today dave Roberts though he was talking about Yoshi Nou and just what’s been missing from him and of course as you all mentioned just how he’s seeing that he’s being a little bit too fine as of late i obviously I have high expectations for Yoshobu um and I think for me uh as a guy who uh sees a sees him as a command guy um being too fine and I think we’ve talked about that quite a bit um starting count one and 0 versus getting ahead 01 and so this is uh you know this is a team that’s going to swing the bats uh it’s a ballpark that you can’t give up free passes free bases get behind in counts and so I think for me if he’s getting strike one um it’s going to be a really good night and efficient night when you talk about being too fine is there something that you’re looking outside of getting strike one of course but just that you’re seeing from him that’s showing that he’s trying to be too fine and just how he’s executing his pitches
i I just think that it’s just uh the consistency of being a few inches off that first pitch and so it’s not a mechanical I would almost argue it’s a more of a mindset i think that comes more from just like trying to want to like paint the corner like on every pitch he throws more than like not maybe trusting his stuff in the zone enough just kind of feeling like I can hit these spots exactly how I want to and just missing a little too much doing that
yeah I think so i I I think that’s what it is because he is such a command guy so I think at times you want to be perfect um and I just feel that he has more margin than he than he thinks he does um and not to say that he’s given hitters credit but but I think the bottom line is that we got we got to get ahead so Dave Roberts as he shared he believes that the issue for Yoshobu in these last few outings has been just that he’s being too fine he’s trying to be a little bit too perfect hitting certain spots and it’s been consistent misses so the hope for him today is just to kind of get back to being himself getting a little bit out of his head he did say that Mark Prior actually had a conversation with Yoshi Nou recently so they’re hoping that that’ll translate to on the mound and just how he’s executing his pitches of course it is a tough one here at Coors Field but he has had success here in the past so hopefully he can lean into that understand that you don’t have to be perfect in this one because he has the stuff and so he can execute and then on the other side hopefully you can get some run support because that has also been an issue when it comes to when Yoshino has been on the mound the lack of run support from the offense so hopefully as a total and as a group everyone can turn some things around today here at Course Fields guys all right a chance to finish off what’s been a difficult month of June for him with a positive one tonight kirstston thank you very much and we just heard Kirstston talking about the run support it would be nice to see the Dodgers get some early runs in this game because Yoshi Nou Yamamoto is averaging just 2.34 runs of support per game third lowest among starting pitchers Nomar who’ve made at least 10 starts so my question is can that affect maybe his psyche a little bit when he’s out there on the mound where he feels like maybe he has to be too perfect like Dave Roberts was saying
well yeah when you’re going along inning after inning and it’s still 000 or it’s within a one-run game you you’re feeling like man now I don’t have any margin for error and so yeah you start being a little bit too fine yeah you start trying to have to make that perfect pitch every single pitch rather than okay I have a two 3-1 lead you know nobody’s on base you know if I happen to give up a home run here it’s a solo shot but I can’t walk them and I got to get ahead it’s a little different like I’m going to get ahead um and if I if they hit it so be it but it’s okay but I’m going to try to get strike one and you’re now focused more on the center part of the plate rather than going “Okay listen it’s 00 i can’t let them get the lead right now it’s a tight ball game it’s up to me to hold them close i got to try to catch the corner i got to come from the outside in trying to catch the corner rather than going more inside out to catch the corner and trusting if he gets a little bit too much of the plate you’re still going to be fine
you know I played with uh Josh Beckett and he said there’s always one guy on the staff where it’s you know two or three months hopefully not a year where he’s not going to get run support that’s just the nature of the beast right now is Yoshi hopefully that changes and Nomar’s point sometimes you can be too fine and understanding we’re in a zero ball game or it’s a one-1 ball game i got to be perfect hopefully he doesn’t feel that way and hopefully this Dodger team scores a lot of runs for the night
you know you change that you just take the team out for dinner just you know hey guys yeah just got to take care of your guys a little bit more
hey guys I’m Here it is i’m giving you out to dinner can you score runs for me now let’s go
all right well hopefully they’re all wellfed today for the start of this game and Jerry you probably didn’t know but there’s actually a statue of you at the main entrance to Kors Field
that’s right
kind of i should tell a statue is called the player it represents everyone who has ever played this great game so congratulations to you J thank you uh plus the Dodgers will have officially hit the halfway point of the season after tonight’s game it gives us a perfect excuse to take a look at what’s happening around the league our surprises of the first half coming up hard to believe the Dodgers have lost all four of Yamamoto’s starts in the month of June compare that to his first 11 starts of the season they won eight times pushed in the air to right field to Oscar Hernandez drifting over and making the catch stackcast 3D is powered by Google Cloud this is the pitch arsenal for the Dodger starter four Seamer sets up everything if he’s able to locate that work ahead then that splitter will follow curve ball throws a cutter as well we just saw that but again everything revolves around that fast ball how that is used efficiently where it’s located in the zone determine how everything else works poped him up goodman into shallow center for Pahes out number two on one pitch yoshino Yamamoto last start became the fastest Japanese-b born player to reach 200 career strikeouts we’ll feel the Dodger bullpen can just get seven tonight that’ll get you another free jumbo jack tomorrow and a jack in the box in LA where does he go for the 2-2 goes to the curve and gets a swing and a miss for strike three a 10 pitch scoreless first for Yamamoto [Music] two two swing and a miss strike three another K on a curve from Yamamoto yamamoto so far early on has been as diverse as I’ve seen him as far as usage of pitches not just a two- pitch guy a couple pitches with the curveball a couple of the splitters a couple you know fast balls he’s he’s been about 25 to 30% in all these pitches and ground ball up the middle edmonds waiting beyond the bag two gone he’s there for a couple of weeks at that time he had a major league high 81 strikeouts just couldn’t get it going with a bat since he’s been recalled though different story batting average above 300 but Yamamoto sits him down on three pitches bookending Ks in a 10 pitch second i mentioned last inning about the diversity coming into this inning when you’re talking about the pitches that Yamamoto is using coming into this inning five splitters five curve balls five four seamers three cutters and again he usually a pitcher too there’s a feel very rarely does everything work and does everything feel good but that seems to be the case early on with Yamamoto there isn’t a pitch he won’t use yes he did that’s strike three tapper up the line picked up by Rushing and he throws to Freddy for out number two how about that from the rookie back stop nice job by Rush just to hover over the ball and let it roll fair and once it does he’s right over it able to barehand it good throw to Freddy each team trading hits in the third dam trying to strand Hillier that’s fly to center pes will jog back or he can make the catch and get in six straight for the Rocky back stop [Applause] bouncer to short bets in the glove throws on the run nice play for the first out [Applause] strike three swinging did it with the split [Applause] did it with the curve ball his first at bat the splitter there but the commonality between the two pitches both down below the knees yamamoto has done an exceptional job of keeping the ball down in the zone bouncer to the right side yamamoto off the mound who will cover the bag 11 pitches another efficient frame for the Dodgers righty
you know the course of a season and some guys get crazy run support others don’t get any you try to explain it
can’t 32 curve a little low rushing frustrated with how he received that to lead off walk to Estrada [Music] see that pitch well below the zone but never as a catcher do you want to be moving the glove down towards the ground when you’re trying to steal a strike always start low and move it up one hitter is O2 pitch simmonia caught on and miss strike three punch out number six to get through the fifth for Yamamoto
