Blue Jays vs. Cardinals Game Highlights (6/9/25) | MLB Highlights

The Cardinals fresh off a series win against the Dodgers. Now take on their friends from the great white North, the Toronto Blue Jays, a nice challenge for Andre Palante who’s looking to bounce back from that last time out against the Royals. I think he’s pitched better than his line give up seven last time. That’s going to dent the, er, a , a little bit looking for his first swing and miss here and instead get soft contact right back to the mound. There’s a good start for and pat off the end of the bat retired to start the game. Here’s Vladimir guerrero Junior slow roller toward third arena, more soft contact. His throw is on the money and in time two outs, two groundball outs and here’s Addison Barger and he lines one to left field and that will be a base hit Lars New bar to cut it off. Look at Barger. I mean, he is always giving everything he around the bases. He forces the outfielder to make a good play. He’s on first two outs, no score in Alejandro. Kirk and Kirk grounds one through the right side. A base hit with two outs Barger is not going to risk anything. He will stop at second with two outs. George Springer has a chance to hit. He leads the Jays and Homers. He’s got 10 of them and this is down the left field line and it’s going to get all the way into the corner will come in to score. Kirk is getting held at third. It’s an RB I double for Springer and the Blue Jays have a first inning lead. Springer just keeps up his hot streak. Five home runs in the last two weeks. This one’s a double down. The left field line looked to me like it was 11 of those sinkers that doesn’t have a ton of sink just more of a runner see it running from the outside part of the plate to the inside part and Springer just keeps his hands on the interplane. He has great direction probably close to the barrel, but he’s able to keep it fair because he had great direction and andres Jimenez is the next blue Jays batter or soft contact. Palante will grab that. Jimenez is out. The Blue Jays get a run on three hits and the runners at 2nd and 3rd Jose Barrios, no doubt has done a lot of work on how to try to keep these Cardinals down. He sure has making his 14th start of the season last time out versus Philadelphia had a great outing. Here’s a weak ground ball out to second, easy play for out number one. Now Mason win the shortstop. This is popped up on the infield off the bat of win and it will be Clement to make the catch two down two down for Brendan Donovan and another ground ball big, nice to Hopper for Jimenez and an easy 123 bottom of the first for Jose Clements and he lines one to left field and that’s going to get down and it will get all the way to the wall and Clement wasting no time. He’s got himself a double fourth hit for the Blue Jays, second double and here’s jonathan on the ground to second and Donovan handles that and gets his man by a strike. Clement to third all the outs for on the ground that one hard hit and two away for bat. And that’s a base hit into center for bat. Clements home and it is two to nothing. You know, there was a time early in the season when I really thought that Bechet might be best suited in the three or four hole for these exact scenarios and he just takes his vintage Boche swing stays inside of it, rips it right up the middle. He loves driving runs in guerrero with a ground ball to third his first time up and he smokes this ball to center on the run in the shadows. Now moving to his left, he makes the catch the Blue Jays score a two out run and that’s the first strikeout for Barrios and Nolan Gorman will be a base hit for Gorman. There goes the no hitter nice trip to the plate for Gorman and that is out number two, just a little lazy fly ball the other way. So Lars New will back for the second time. He grounded out his first time and a pop up crosses over into foul territory and makes the catch. And that’s that three very efficient innings for jose Barrios. Two out walk. Buros has issued two bases on balls. Let’s see if the Cardinals can cash it in. Herrera. Seen one pitch and he popped out over second for a two on two out. Herrera serves a single ball gets away in right to third good baserunning by Contreras. Cardinals get a free base 1st and 3rd. That’s going to be an error on springer in right his first error of the year. He just overran that ball and Contreras who was content to stay at second. He made him rush Arenado grounded into a double play his first time on line to short and right. Clements hit him where they’re at worked out pretty well for the Blue Jays. 12 outs on the ground for Pate and that brings up Jimenez. That will be another ground out with a good throw. Donovan waits for Contreras to retreat to the bag and quickly two outs, 10 up, 10 down and David Schneider has hit the ball on the ground twice. He’s happy to take a walk here with two down in the sixth clement, the batter and he’s going to fly out to right. Burleson drifting back. Plenty of room one left on the Blue Jays have stranded six jonathan class who’s zero for two will lead it off shows bunted. He gets it down. Arenado charges and does not get him. It will be a bunt single for class. That’s risky trying to bunt it to third base with Arenado, but I love it and you could almost hear this ball off the end of the bat that deadens it off the end of the bat. Ato’s got a one hand barehanded and not in time perfectly executed bunt against a very, very good third baseman and now with Bichette Guerrero coming up , Holly doesn’t want to let them see Palante for 1/4 time. So Riley o’brien will stride in for the bullpen bechet. The leadoff hitter runner takes off helmet flying double play that helps this could not have worked out any better for the Cardinals. That was a great jump by class had second stolen easily but inside out swing Contreras there to snag it, step on the bag for two and this is how you want Vlad Jr to bat with the bases empty. He’s zero for three tonight and a high chopper to third bare hands and a high throw takes Contreras off the bag. Guerrero is safe So he’s at first two down for Addison Bar on the ground. Mason wins, got that. He’ll step on the bag and the inning comes to a close and here’s Alejandro Kurt to lead it off against Riley o’brien. Hurt two for three to center and deep and it’s gone. It looked like Scott got a glove on it and it might have actually helped it get over the wall, the assist and talk about a good swing in a two strike count. Alejandro Kirk to dead center. It’s just prototypical of what he’s been doing over the last couple of weeks. Even when he’s down in the count , he finds a way to battle back , puts barrel to baseball and this is a barreled baseball to center field and it’s what he does and he’s got connectivity. He’s got direction and a good start. Victor takes ball for a baserunner. Let’s see what Mason can do. He’s hit it in the air three times. There’s a shot to get down the Cardinals, bring the tying run to the plate. So two on one out. Donovan and Contreras give the Cardinals a shot in the inning and a swing and a miss on the ball in the dirt. Donovan cannot run. He strikes out two down and now we’ll see what john Schneider is thinking with the right hand hitting wilson Contreras coming up and it looks like we have our answer. He wants Yael Rodriguez allowed only one inherited runner to score all season. Two walks and a fly out for Contreras. A long one ties it up and a shot the right and that’ll score right. Victor is home wins at third. The Cardinals are on the board with an opposite field. Single. It’s a 3 to 1 game. What a job by Contreras right here to take what is given to him with another slider did Rodriguez it’s down, it’s away, it’s off the plate and Contreras is able to stay on it and drive it right down the right field line. The Cardinals won’t be shut out tonight. Let’s see if they can pick up at least one more run here with herrera. Come on ball steps up, listen to this place. They just don’t quit. It looked hopeless and the Cardinals take this game to the ninth improbably with a 43 lead and now it’s set up for Ryan Helsley to seal the deal in the top of the night. There’s one out and here’s jonathan class, one for three, had a bunt single his last time on fly ball high and deep right center field. It’s gone. Well, if they’re evaluating that event, Mr Joseph, they like what they see. Jonathan class has time. He got a four seam fastball right down the middle there and he didn’t miss it. What a swing. What a big spot for the youngster. These guys are just never out of a ball game and a blown save for Helsley. Now to the 10th. We go. Where will face Kirk Madison Barger is the runner out at second. Kirk definitely understands that at the very least he wants to get a Barger, but he’d obviously love to do more than that or you can do this to left field and it’s off the base of the wall. Barger is around third. He will score. It’s an RB I double for Kirk. His fourth hit of the night. This guy is about as tough and out as there is in the majors right now. I’ll tell you what there’s locked in and Then there’s just on a different planet and Kirk is just on a different planet. Alejandro Kirk just doesn’t miss mistakes. Jeff Hoffman is the new pitcher for the Blue Jays. He is looking for three outs here to lock it up but he has the top of the cardinal order to deal with, swung on and missed. He got him one down and now Mason win bats back to Hoffman. It got through him. Jimenez has it and throws out a very good play by Jimenez. The runner comes to third but there are two outs and it’s up to Brandon Donovan and it’s in the air to center field. It is caught by class and the Blue Jays will win it. What a ball game here in ST Louis, the home run by class tied it. Kirk had a monster night for the Blue Jays. Jeff Hoffman gets the save and they take the opener 5 to 4.
