the Yankees have won the first three of a four game series line base hit right field New York and Kansas City we have a runner on First with one out in the sixth inning the definition of a b is trying to deceive the runner how is that not deceiving the runner well there is such a thing as legal deception there are 13 criteria for a Bo number one is the one that they’re probably talking about but even though Cortez is super concerned about wit at first this is not a b ejection out of 14 for throwing over more than twice disengaging with a runner and Bobby goes on first movement Rizzo throws down to Second m quero is going to come out he’s going to argue with first base umpire Scott Barry so I said it wasn’t a bck what we’re looking at at second base is did the Fielder obstruct the runner yeah he’s saying you can’t do that they just changeed that rule this year you can’t block the base that’s exactly what he’s saying the definition of obstruction is the act of a Fielder while not in possession of the ball not in the act of Fielding impeding the progress of any run this year there’s a point of emphasis on obstruction throw him out to win the inning I was wrong oh no well one of the new rules is you cannot specifically what they’re looking at is the definitions Act of Fielding portion being sort of exploited by the defender who says oh yeah I’m going to block with my foot while I’m Fielding the ball MLB says no that’s illegal you have to possess the ball first remember when you possess the ball you are allowed to block the base it’s just this in the act of Fielding when you don’t get have the ball loophole that’s being exploited that’s what the point of emphasis is abouto is out there did he block the base before he had the ball notice the Fielder’s foot moves to block the base at some point if he moved with the ball he’s fine if he moved ahead of the ball it’s obstruction and the reason he’s arguing if he’s arguing obstruction that is not reviewable so this is the best that he can do correct obstruction is not a reviewable play seen this called at all yet this year they’ve done a pretty good job and quo just gets kicked out if we were to see obstruction on this this would be type one so the runner would get the next base which would be second in this case you rely see him lose his cool man but I’ll tell you what he’s backing up his player that’s so just to really drive the point home this is all about being in the act of Fielding verse actually possessing the ball if we if you caught the ball if you catch the ball you can block the bag you have to have the ball first right everyone knows what to look for right if he has the ball before blocking he’s good if he doesn’t he’s bad let’s find out see he’s already caught it already this is a great look right here and then you can go block the base you can do whatever you want as long as you have the ball first it looks to me like this Fielder gains possession of the ball before he actually blocks the base which would make this a legal play look at his foot he has the ball now now he moves his foot into position remember the definition of obstruction if you have possession of the ball it is not obstruction when you block the base compare that to this play where the Fielder puts his foot in front without possession of the baseball in this case Colo speaking possession is 9/10 of this rule he’s saying that vulpi put his foot in front of the base and there it is you can’t block the base anymore that’s why knowing the timing of when possession is attained is super important that’s a easy call to make too HUD I love you but you’re wrong I thought he was going to come out and argue a box oh
