Rockies vs. Marlins Game Highlights (6/2/25) | MLB Highlights
Field. The Rockies are facing Max Meyer. The 26 year old former high first round pick out of the University of Minnesota is making his 12th start. He’s got an electric arm. Sam Hilliard leads things off that would cut on and miss 96 in the three pitch strikeout. Max Meer being Sam Hilliard on three pitches and we are underway. So what God and that will bring up Tovar Tovar with a little bouncing ball left side of the mount, third baseman Norby charging, he throws on the run that is in time to get Tovar. All right, we have to tell you right off the bat, the weather, you know, it’s tropical and the clouds opened up and it must have rained three or four inches. I thought I saw an arc being built. The animals are walking two by two and, and so there’s only three umpires because mike Belinsky could not get here. So no work, a three man crew and that’s a base hit to left. So with two outs, Goodman’s aboard Tyro Estrada Rockies second baseman tonight and that goes off of ramirez and a good read by Hunter Goodman. He goes to second a runner in scoring position with two outs for Tyro Estrada. I mean, that’s got to be a fastball just the way it just clanked off the glove and this ball is a deep left field. This will easily get the run home. It’s gonna kick off the middle of the wall. Tyro Estrada makes it one nothing Colorado. There’s the two out base hit with a runner in scoring position that has eluded the Rockies much of this year. That was a changeup that he pulled and this ball was probably only a couple of feet from going out run home 22 pitch swing and a miss he gets Mcmahon and that ends the inning with the Rockies score on the Estrada double, 30 year old Venezuelan right hander Herman Marquez making his 12th start of the season in the 185 of his 10 year big league career. Xavier Edwards will lead things off fresh off his first five hit game of his career. That Lowe and that is ball four , the speed Xavier Edwards and the Marlins have a leadoff baserunner Jesus Sanchez and he drives that in the air deep to right field going back three minutes over his head and off the wall. That, that’s a ground rule double, which is a great Edwards scored and sanchez would have ended up with a triple. Everybody’s telling sanchez to go back to second. The umpires have their hands open up the entire time Doug Eggs is just gonna confirm with his other umpires. It is a ground rule double to runners at 2nd and 3rd for Augustine ramirez for the roller over to third base. Arcia has got it. He’s coming home and Goodman just didn’t catch the throw runners will advance ramirez will end up at second Arcia who’s making his first start of the season at third and just making his seventh career start at third base. You see plays like this made from a ball club that is off to a nine and 50 start. He’s trying to say that the runner impeded where that throw because where he started running , coming down the line now watch where he goes though halfway in. I mean, he’s all the way on the grass. You can’t change your route that much. I don’t think you can be out there. Here’s kyle Stowers and that is a called strike three stour, understandably upset. Take it one out, a fastball that had some tailing action on it that will bring Otto Lopez to the plate. He’s batting 238 in 12 games since his return from the injured list and he yanks that into left field that’s down for a base hit. The Marlins will take a 21 lead coming into the game. They have 300 plate appearances where they swung at the first pitch, the highest in the major leagues. The reality of the recovery from tommy John Herman going through that right now. Runner at first goes and Wageman sends one in the air deep to right field. Might be deep enough to score Ramirez from third. He’ll tag, he’s coming towards the plate to throw. Goes into second. It’s a good at bat by eric Wageman, a sack fly and a run that’s 3 to 1 Norby third baseman for the Marlins hits it to the third baseman for the Rockies Orlando arc over to first to end the inning. Sloppy first and sloppier for the Rockies. It’s, it’s your night bark in the park. I guess I’ll go play with that dog. I brought an, that’s what the roof is for later on from the stretch. Now, Max Meer, here’s a pitch and a bouncer to short charging the shortstop Lopez going to go to first base on a side arm throw and he’s in time to get that out. Gets to second two down in the inning and Tyler freeman will come up and try to keep this inning going for the Rockies. Freeman rolls one over to second base diving stop by Edwards. He pops up, he fires to first in time to retire the side that second baseman Xavier Edwards to you in his second start over there this year. The Marlins opening day shortstop beats freeman by half a step. You talk to coach, you talk to those who follow the Rockies and the players seem to be, you know , holding up as best they can. The one word that we did hear and you could understand is that it’s also a little embarrassing now lined in the left center field, Doyle on his horse, Doyle looking up and that thing slams off the wall in left center field, sanchez pulling into second base. No problem for liam Hicks to score from third. It’s an RBI double and Jesus is stinging the ball 41. Miami in the second. Ramirez reached on a fielder’s choice and an E five in the first and a broken bat liner in the center is going to drop for a base hit Doyle’s up with the ball throws home. Could you play at the plate? And he is out at the plate on a two hopper from Britain Doyle in center field that cuts down what would have been the fifth run for the Marlins? He’s got his LS US recognizing his father that passed away. September 2021 of A L S. Sam had a good day yesterday, two for four. And there are those special spikes goes back to last September and for Sam on a, on a special day for him, him and his Hilliard team, they gave an award $2500 and Then of course, he hits a homer. 12 is cut on and missed. Max Meyer drops his slider below Hilliard’s barrel. There’s some pieces that the Rockies can work with. Here’s a pitch to Goodman and he hits that to center field. It’s pretty deep. Myers going back, center fielder to the wall, he’s going to leap. Can’t get it. It’s gone. It’s a home run, towering shot to right center field. Able to get to the wall and leap. But over his club solo home run for Hunter Goodman. Rockies get one back. It’s forward to Miami. Been a few games since Hunter last went deep. So that has to feel good. His eighth homer of the year, he’s always working hard. Billy wore long sleeved shirts. That’s a good point. The Rockies again are going to need a two out hit and he lines this ball to left field, it’s going to get down and Tyler freeman comes through with a huge two out knock. It’s now a one run game. He’s had a good road trip and a good swing there looking for that big hit with two outs and the Rockies come up with it. So the bases are loaded one out and the 23 year old catcher Augustine Ramirez coming up RB I ground out and a single liner to Tovar flip to second. No, the ball was not handled by Estrada, but he was getting ready to flip it and he just, it just fell out of his hand, a line out by Ramirez for the second out. This would be large if Herman can get to swing and a miss 96 with the heat and the Marlins leave three on base and here comes hunter Goodman and he has had a ball game and a half already and this ball is launched again to center field going back is myers watching it s out. Hunter Goodman has just put the Rockies in front 54, Colorado, his third multi home run game in his young career. And it also breaks that stretch of just scoring four runs or fewer in the last 10 games on top of the ninth inning. And we don’t do to go boxes around here. Brother, you’re a half a slice in. It’s raining outside. You got to get eaten there. What’s he doing? When, when does the service stop? Why do we have a full pie in the night? Colorado sending 89 in one to the plate against Valente and hero with a base hit and it’s knocked around out there by stour here in the second with his first Rockies hit. It’s a double. Well, I tell you what ST is lucky. He knocked this down because where he dove and where it was that was going to go over his glove to the wall. Well, the Rockies, their interim manager, Warren Scaff, they, they know the importance of an insurance run here. Fly ball in the left center field. ST is on the run and he slides and he gets there and ha was halfway to third, could have tagged up, but he didn’t get back to the bag in time. That was his mistake. He, he anticipated that that ball would drop for a base hit. He catches it. You go to third, he misses it. You go home but you cannot stay and be at second base. This ball down the right field line and it is fair. Sam Hilliard getting it done here are scores to make it 6 to 4. Sam Hilliard coming through, buckle up. We go to the bottom of the ninth Rockies in search of their 10th win of the season. They have a 6 to 4 lead 12 grounded through the right side. The base hit to start the bottom of the ninth. He just poked that splitter. That was six inches below the zone into right. You can really see the, the importance of that run. The Rockies got in the top half makes just a huge difference. Hit to shallow. Right. And it drops up at the ball. Freeman throws it to second and they get the force on Sanchez Petty play by Tyler Freeman. It’s Sanchez. He’s really kind of out to dry too. He doesn’t know what to do. You go too far out. I know. Optically that looks awful what feels like should be a single to right. But I don’t think there’s much more sanchez could have done on that play, but a big first out pitch is grounded up the middle Estrada to Arcia for one and the first for a double play. And the Rockies start the series here in Florida with a win. Good for Warren Schafer. Good for the Rockies.
