Nationals vs Mariners LIVE STREAM (05/29/2025) | MLB Live Play-By-Play | Gamecast + Livescore

now neither side. Emerald City, blue skies, not a cloud to be found on this school. Late May evening, 62 at game time. Not too muggy by Seattle standards. And the Mariners at home are 14 and 12. Big question is, can Kevin Fransen do it three nights in a row with spot-on keys to the game? Oh gosh, I hope so. Keys to the game presented by your local Ford. Fans still coming into T-Mobile Park. We’re getting ready for the first pitch. Emerson Hancock going through his warm-up tosses. The Mariners at 30 and 24 on the year, hanging on to the top spot in the American League West by just a half game over the Houston Astros. They’re playing tonight against Tampa Bay. So, Shannon, we’ll keep our eyes on that ball game as well. But a good matchup. Hancock for the Mariners. Mackenzie Gore has more strikeouts than anybody in the major leagues going for the Nationals. Strikeout leader against a guy who’s put up four straight quality starts and Emerson Hancock. You just see him continue to take steps forward. Time now for the roof report from Three Tree Roofing. And with plenty of sunshine, we have popped the top. The roof is wide open. The roof report brought to you by three roofing, the number one roofer in Washington. Go to threetereofing.com for a free estimate today. Well, the Mariners in their City Connects on a Thursday night. They’re going to be wearing the City Connects Thursdays and Fridays for the rest of the year. They’ve had a lot of luck in those uniforms. Here we go. CJ Abrams will lead things off. First pitch on the way. Swinging a popup left side of the infield behind the bag at third. Ben Williamson now on foul ground and Williamson makes the catch. So Abrams, who’s had a couple of leadoff homers on the first pitch of a game, fouls out to the third baseman on the first pitch here tonight. We immediately see the impact of the wind pushing that ball from fair territory across the line. A brisk breeze blowing across from right center in toward the third base line. First pitch was delivered right on time at 640. It’s 63° here in Seattle. James Wood faces Hancock. The pitch is right down the middle. A called strike. Wood with a tape measure homer in each game of the series. He has 15 home runs on the year, batting .287 with 40 runs batted in. He’s all over the league leaderboard. Here’s the 01 outside. One ball, one strike. He’s moved into a tie for sixth in the major leagues in home runs. He’s tied for fifth in the majors in slugging and he’s eighth in OPS. So, he has delivered the lumber. One ball, one strike. Here’s the pitch in the dirt. Bounce to change up. James Wood comes to plate. Here comes the lumber. Crafted by Acrim Carpentry. Adding value to your home building process and helping you sell homes faster. Accerim Carpentry, the home builder’s trade partner. Hancock the right-hander throws. Another change up outside. Three in one. It’s fast ball mid 90s. Slider low 80s change up mid 80s. He’s trying to get Wood to fish at some change ups. And James is not taking the bait. Now the 3-1 outside. He wanted no part of James Wood after that first pitch. Strike everything off the outside and Wood draws a one-out walk. Our first pitch time and temperature brought to you by Offen Bachers. Visit them in Hearnen Annapolis, Gainesville, and Rockville for a huge selection of outdoor furniture, fire pits, hot tubs, and swim spots. Again, we’ve dropped 15° from last night’s game time. 78 to 63. Feels a little colder with that wind blowing in towards us, but still a clear blue sky. No clouds overhead. The pitch to Nathaniel Low is outside ball one fast ball at 95. Hancock is 6’4″, 213 lbs. He was born in Cro, Georgia. He went to college at the University of Georgia in Athens as Cal Raleigh with five straight misses out of the zone. We’ll try to slow things down and slow down in action brought to you by Eizerve as he uses an early mound visit here in the top of the first. Talked about Hancock first round pick number six overall in 2020. So they’re very high on him. He made three starts in the big leagues in 23. 12 starts last year and was the number five starter to begin this year. But he was knocked down in the first inning as we talked about in the pitching match up in his first start. He went down to the miners for a couple of weeks. Throw over to first. Wood hits the dirt and dives back in. Yeah, the Mariners had some off days and as we saw in the case with the starter for the opening game of the series, Logan Evans, you know, they want him to keep pitching and off days. If your spot’s not coming up, they send you right down to Triple A. Now, the hold and Hancock deals and a foul back into the left. One-on-one on Nathaniel Low. So, he made two starts at AAA, then came back on the 17th. So his last seven starts in the big leagues and again six of those seven have been very good and he had the one start in which he gave up seven runs but everything else three or less the 1-1 swing a popup third base side that’s going to be over the dugout into the seats and one and two on the Nats first baseman Nathaniel Low mentioned he’s the only national to have faced Hancock before faced him as a Texas Ranger last year overall low hitting at 220. He was 0 for four last night. One-tw count and fires and misses high with his fast ball. Two and two. He’s in there every day. Doesn’t get a day off. Just 10 hits in his last 70 times up. That average dropping down. Outfield the other way. Gapping right center for Low. The 2-2. Swinging a miss. Struck him out on a high fast ball. That’s how the Mariners have attacked low in this series. And that is Hancock’s first K. Set the Mariners defensively. Donovan Solano at first, Dylan Moore at second, Gold Glove winner last season. JP Crawford at short with Ben Williamson at third. In the outfield, the same alignment all three games. A Rosarena in left, Rodriguez at center, Tiveras in right with Cal Raleigh doing the catching. Timeout for Ket Ruiz. He catches all three games in the series. And Ruiz the switch at her batting left stands in at 268 is 0 for8 in the series and Cochel long holding the pitch and that’s outside a fast ball. Talked to him after the game last night about Trevor Williams and he that might have been the best game he’s pitched as a national. He was that good. Wasn’t big strikeout totals but he hit his spots and had weak contact to get quick outs. the 10. Swinging a slow ground ball to the second baseman. Dylan Moore feels it and flips it on to first to end the inning. So the Mariners pitch around James Wood. He walks. He’s left at first. The Nationals don’t score in the top of inning one. It’ll be Mackenzie Gore to the hill for the bottom half here from Seattle on the Nationals Radio Network. At Lidos, we make things smarter and more efficient. The 26-year-old left-hander from Wilmington, North Carolina, takes the mound, Mackenzie Gore, for the bottom of the first. Nationals didn’t score in the top half. Gore leads the major leagues in strikeouts by one over TKO of the Tigers. Gore with 93 Ks and 62 and a third innings. He has walked 21. He’s allowed 57 hits including eight homers, two and five record, which considering the 347 RA figures it should be better than that. But the Nationals have had trouble scoring runs in McKenzie Gore starts. His start begins tonight against the left-handed swinging JP Crawford who homered against Gore last year in DC. That was the only run that McKenzie allowed in seven dominant innings for a victory over Seattle. He steps into his windup and his first pitch tonight is on the way. And it’s high ball one. Fast ball at 94. Crawford hitless last night. One for seven in the series. He’s batting 256 with four homers. His stance wide open from the left side. Gores 10. Dots the outside corner with a 95 mileph heater. Cooler weather. Pitchers are going to be blowing on their hands between pitches. Gore winds, kicks, fires, breaking ball, tap foul toward the first base side Mariners dugout. Gore pitches with the the sleeves down to the elbows. Not the not all the way down to the wrist, but with the undershirt that he kind of pulls it up so it doesn’t affect his delivery. Here’s the one, two. Breaking ball served into shallow center. This one will be tracked down by Abrams drifting back and CJ the shorts stop makes the catch. So Crawford tried to bluepoint in but Abrams was there one away. That ball might have had more carry if not for the wind as Abrams started to scoot back and then slammed the brakes on while he was backpedaling. It’s going to be interesting. We saw the effect on the popup in the top of the first inning what the wind will be like for outfielders in fair territory. We’ll see if uh if a hitter gets into one, what part of the ballpark the ball carries to. Here’s Julio Rodriguez. Fast ball misses inside. Rodriguez had a good game in game one as most of the Mariners did, but did not do much last night. Same story for the rest of his teammates. He’s three for nine in the series with a homer. Ruiz sets an outside target. The one pitch ground ball softly to the right side. Garcia slides to his left, scoops it up, flips on to first. Two down. He was jammed on that pitch. Fast ball in about thigh high and did not get that off the good part of the bat. So that was effective or two quick outs on six pitches. And here’s Cal Raleigh. Raleigh is now tied for second in the major leagues in homers. Kyle Schwarber hit number 19 earlier today. He trailed Show Otani by one. He hit a couple here. Batting right-handed Tuesday night. the pitch high and away. Overall, 19 home runs, eight from the right side, 11 from the left. He has put up monster numbers as a right-handed hitter as far as slugging percentage OPS. This is your top offensive catcher in baseball. Gore winds, fires, and dots the inside corner. Our league leaders throughout the broadcast presented by PVI Office Furniture. Swing for the fences with PVI office furniture. We’ll come to you to design your dream workspace and save 15% on your purchase. PVI, your office, your league leader. The league leader in strikeouts deals and a breaking ball. Grounded sharply left side past the sprawling shortstop Abrams. He got a glove on it but couldn’t keep it on the infield. That’s a single in the left for Cal Raleigh. That’s nearly a spectacular diving attempt for Abrams to get to that ball. Then with a speed, well, it’s Raleigh running. Probably could throw him out if he could have gotten this one into the glove. Nearly made the big play. So, the first hit of the ball game belongs to the Mariners. And here’s Randy Oros Serena who does not have a hit in the series. 0 for six. Randy hitting 225, six homers, 22 driven in from the stretch. The pitch fast outside corner at the belt. It’s 0 and one. Rosarena has not faced Gore before. Most of the Mariners hitters did face him last year, but Rosarena and Williamson, the two who have not. The pitch check swinging the ball in. They’ll appeal and he held, says Edwin Jimenez. Thought he might have offered at it, but first base hump said no. Gore coming set at the belt. He delivers. Fast ball high. As far as the time of night, the game time, the shadows and the sun. The right fielder Lyall is in the sun. Center fielder Hassel in the shade. Although the batter’s eye is brightly lit. Pitcher and hitter in the shade. Can be tough to see early in these 640 games in Seattle. 2-1 swing a foul coming back our way but it’ll come up short. Rest of the Nationals defensively we mentioned Lyall and Hassel James Wood and left on the infield. Nathaniel Low at first. Luis Garcia at second. CJ Abrams at short. Jose Tana at third. Kar Ruiz catching. It’s been the same defensive alignment all three games. Two balls, two strikes, two outs, runner at first. He’s running. The pitch is outside and high. The throw is wide in center field. Raleigh’s going to scamper to third. So, Cal Raleigh, nicknamed the big dumper, has his sixth stolen base. And Ruiz throw tailed high and wide to Garcia’s left, had no chance. So, Ruiz will pick up the throwing error. So, a stolen base and an E2. You know, I really don’t think he had a chance to throw him out. That ball may have slipped in his hand, but I think he was making a throw with conviction there. He probably should have held on to it. Yeah, that that was stolen on the pitcher. Gore sometimes struggles holding runners and Raleigh had the big jump. So full count with a runner at third. The 3-2 to Rosarena. Swung on and missed. He caught him on the curveball. So Gore’s first strike out is a big one as it strands that runner at third base. One hit, one error, one left after one. No score. Nationals and Mariners on the Nationals Radio Network. [Music] Get in the flow with the channel of unforgettable R&B from back when Beyonce went solo through Drake’s unstoppable ride. Stop in to discover why spring starts at Safeway. Enter to win at the fandc.com. Last night, we had two winners courtesy of this part of the lineup, the heart of the lineup. Luis Garcia Jr. facing Emerson Hancock. He takes a strike. Fast ball over the outside corner. You had Garcia and Josh Bell who’s on deck go backto back. Last night in the second inning, it was Louis fifth homer. Here’s the pitch to Garcia. He takes outside corner fast ball. So nothing to his liking so far. And he’s down 0 and two. And he’ll take a timeout. He’s probably hitting the hardest luck of any national this year. So, it was good to see one. She finally hit one. Tover couldn’t catch, right? But again, an outside target. The O2 is served in the air. Two is served in the air. Shallow left center. That’s going to dunk in for a hit. So, a third straight pitch to the outside and Garcia was ready for it. And he flares a change up into left center for a leadoff single. Well, that’s a nice job right there. Pitch was away. He didn’t try to do too much with it. Pitch like that, you swing hard, you’ll roll over to the right side. He even got robbed last night on a sliding catch by Rodriguez in center. I mean, every game he seems like he gets robbed once. Somebody’s making a sensational play against him. So, here’s Josh Bell. Three hit game last night. The pitch right in there. And this is the heart of the lineup. Presented by the American College of Cardiology, transforming cardiovascular care, improving heart health for all. Visit them at acccc.org. Garcia to his lead. Outside target for Raleigh. The 01 is lined shallow left off the end of the battle. Rosena digging in. Still on the go. He’ll run it down. He’ll flip it in to the cut off man as Garcia was 2/3 the way to second. He goes dashing back to first. Just one away as a Rosena tracks that one down. Yeah, he had the late break. Bell didn’t hit it all that well. A lot of times you go off sound for the outfielders, but he was able to catch up to it. Here’s Robert Hassel the third. He too homered last night, although not in the second inning. He homered in the eighth inning for his first big league homer. That was one of his three hits. Throw to first. Garcia a step and a dive back in ahead of Solano’s tag. Robert told me the biggest adjustment so far to playing outfield in the big leagues is the sound of the ball off the bat. Very different sound than the smaller parks in the minor leagues. You don’t realize how much you you break based on sound. Next pitch fouled into the screen. It’s now 0 and one on Hassel. So with his three for five, he’s now five out of 22. This is big league game number seven. So hitting 227 with a homer, three RBI’s. Left-handed hitter deep in the box. Open stance. Pitch change up low. A delayed steal for Garcia. A delayed throw. And they’re going to get him. Tag by Crawford. Garcia attempted to delay steal. And even though Raleigh double clutched, his throw was perfect and Crawford just had to get the tag on Garcia who tried the swim move to no avail, he is caught stealing for the second out of the inning. With a double crutch, Raleigh, even though he’s on one knee, was able to get up to his feet and make a great throw. Count one and one. Hand caught from the stretch even with nobody on. Fast ball high. two and one. So Garcia thrown out stealing for the second time in nine attempts and the Nationals first hit erased. Here comes the 2-1 swing a chopper toward the right side pass the mount charging in more the second baseman. Quick trigger to first is just in time played by the goal glover Dylan Moore ends the inning in the top of the second. Nothing across one hit nobody left after an inning and a half. Third night in a row as the Nationals and Mariners wrap up their series with the winner tonight to take the series. Each team with a win. Dylan Moore leads off the bottom of the second in this nothing game. Moore hitting 270 with eight homers and McKenzie Gore rocks and fires and a curveball. Catches the knees for a strike. Moore had three hits and the Mariners win in game one. He came off the bench as a pinch hitter last night and went 0 for one. Straightaway stance from the right side. Gore fires. Foul tipped into the mitt. A high heater. It’s 0 and2. Morris played more second base than anywhere else this year, but he can play everywhere. He has starts at third base, shortstop, and in right field. He won the gold glove as a utility man last year in the AL. The O2 from Gore. He elevates the fast ball too high. Ball one and two strikes. He’s a versatile player and he can steal a base when he gets on. Next pitch, swinging a miss. Struck him out with a fast ball. 97 at the belt. So Gore with his second strikeout and out number one in the bottom of the second. Tarco Scooel closed the gap on Gore for the major league strikeout lead. He had that 14 strikeout. Was it 13 strikeouts against Cleveland his last start? So Gore started the night at 93. Scoo pitched later in the week at 92. Here’s Donovan Solano. Pitch to Solano. Curveball starts him off for a strike. Solano hitting 178. He basically only plays against lefties. 17 of his 18 starts against Southpaws. The 01 swinging a miss at the curve. 0 and2. and Solano, who was an everyday player a few years back with the Giants. Basically, his niche now is to play against lefties as he’s moved around. Here’s the O2. Fast leans him back. That one up and inside. We’ll catch up with Donovan’s brother, Jonathan Solano, in Phoenix tomorrow. the exationals catcher on the Diamondback’s coaching staff as a a bullpen catcher. Here’s the one-two swinging a foul back into the right. I think we’re going to be catching up with former national Elder Maro Vargas as well. He’s a triple A Reno for the Dbacks and used an opt out earlier in the week, but they’ve decided after he became a free agent to resign him and bring him to the big leagues. Here’s the wind of the one-two to Solano. Fast ball high. Did you happen to see the play? This is one of the wackiest plays ever that Ilgaro Vargas was involved in earlier this year at Triple A. I did not. The video is epic. So, this is for Reno. Here’s the two- two pitch. Breaking ball, ground ball toward the hole left side. Tana, the third baseman, slides over to cut it off. Sidearms the toss to first, retiring Solano. Marino was about to deliver a walk-off hit. Ball’s in the gap. Christian Pach is coming around to score the winning run. And Vargas comes out of the dugout and runs into Pache on his way to the plate. He’s so busy celebrating, he collides with the base runner before he got there. Before he got to the plate. So, the runner is out for obstruction. But the play wasn’t over. Here’s the pitch to Jorge Palano, the DH. He bluffs a bunt, takes a ball low. This the play was with the bases loaded. So the trail runner, the runner behind Pachche kept on going. The center fielder thought the game was over. He threw the ball into the stands. Here’s the wind of the 10. Check swing on a ball low and he held. It’s 2 and0. So he figured he figured his team lost because oh the winning run’s going to score. I’m just going to throw it to a fan. Well, the game wasn’t over. But then when he threw it in the stands, the runners entitled to score. The game was over. You have the video is epic. Two balls, no strikes. Here’s the pitch. Swinging a pop up into shallow right. Dalen Lyle’s first chance moving in. But the sunglasses on and Lyall puts it away. Mackenzie Gore has a one, two, three second inning. So on one team celebrates and collides with the runner before he gets to the plate. The other team game thinks the game’s over. Throws the ball to the stage. Only in the minor leagues. We go to the third. No score on the Nationals radio network. Is this summer? It’s a scorcher out there today. No, this is summer with the Nissan summer sales event. We go to the third inning in Seattle. the Nationals and the Mariners and with a playbyplay from the Nissan broadcast booth. Charlie Slows. All right, thank you Dave. Jose Tano will lead off riding an eightgame hitting streak, 10 for 37, a 370 clip after two doubles in four trips last night. First pitch to him is hit on the ground toward the middle. Shortstop Crawford gets to it crossing to the right side and whips a sidearm throw across to the first baseman Solano and Tana is out on one pitch. One away. That one right back past the pitcher Emerson Hancock. Fortunately for him, did not knock the ball down because his shorts stop shaded up the middle. Got to it. Now Dalon Lyall, the batter. Lyle, three out of 14 in five big league games and his first extra base hit. Double to right center in the eighth inning last night. Later scored and the first pitch swung on. A fast ball fouled straight back. Strike one. Lyle began the year at Harrisburg. played in 21 games, then 18 at Rochester. Got the call with Jacob Young going to the injured list. Next pitch, swung on, fouled off to the left and out of play. Young has been able to swing a bat, take batting practice. So, it’s a good chance when his 10 days come around of the injured list that he could be ready to come back. Remains to be seen, but making progress. Pitch on the way. High and outside in the count, one ball and two strikes. Dylan Cruz, who went on the injured list the day after Jacob Young with an oblique strain, is not on the trip with the Nationals. He’s getting treatment back in Washington. Now the pitch and Ly lays off the count. Two balls and two strikes. Left side of the infield bunch toward the middle. the pitch swing and he rolls one right side toward the hole. Second baseman Moore gets to it and whips a throw to Solano. Two up and two down on two ground ball outs. Makes three ground balls in a row back to Hassel in the second. Ground ball out off the bat of Ruiz in the first. So now CJ Abrams the batter. Abrams fouled out to the third baseman Ben Williamson on the first pitch of the game. Just one in his last 23 times up after a pretty good hot streak. Here’s the pitch. Swing and a miss. Strike one. And has struck out one, walked one. First base side of the rubber. He works from the stretch all of the time. Kicks, delivers, and Abrams swings and fouls a fast ball back and out of play. And it is quickly. No balls and two strikes. Third inning of Nationals baseball fueled by Sitco. Club Sitco can save you money every day when you start with Sitco. You’re good to go. Now Phil just a touch the other way toward left and the pitch. Swung on. Reach for one and pops it up. Foul over toward the Nationals dugout. Long run for Williamson, the third baseman, but it’ll be out of play. catcher Raleigh made an effort over that way, but he slowed up before the third baseman Williamson seeing that that one was going to land to the seats. Oak still coming in here to T-Mobile Park on a cool Thursday evening. Hancock catch the liver and Abrams takes and that one just missed outside. A change up blowing away. One ball, two strikes on the national shortstop. Now the pitch, breaking ball, swing and a miss. Struck him out. An 82 mph slider. Second strike out for Hancock. And he has himself his first one 123 inning. Middle of the third in Seattle. The Nats nothing. The Mariners nothing on the Nationals Baseball Network. Your business. Sports are all about moments. Face Leody switching right fielder to lead off the number eight hitter in the lineup. He’s 0 for seven in the series, hitting it at 218. Gourd delivers. Fast ball high ball one. And their updates on Jacob Young and Dylan Cruz in the top of the inning. Tonight’s injury report presented by Anova. Here’s the pitch. Swing and a line drive right center field. On the run is Lyall and he’ll have to get there and play it on a hop. Fires it in towards second. Lead off single for Toiver to right center and again. Andola is the official healthc care provider of the Washington Nationals. So the second allowed by Gore and Tiveras he can run. He has eight steals in 10 tries. Gore this year has been better. The one steal in this game against him already has had six steals against him. Three men caught. Last year they stole 26 in 28 tries. Pitch on the way. Fast ball in. They’re a called strike. All of the pitchers have done a better job and that’s given KB Ruiz a chance to throw out 10 base Steelers and Riley Adams four when he’s been in there. Low holds against the runner at first. Gore to the belt, the kick and the pitch. Swing and a foul tip into the glove of Ruiz on a fast ball at 96 miles an hour. 0 and2 on Ben Williamson. Three for seven of the series. He’s hitting four straight, five for his last 14, hitting 246 four doubles a homer and 12 runs batted in for the rookie third baseman down the pitch. Gore delivers high outside ball and two strikes. Not just any rookie. He’s from the DC area. Born in Fairfax, grew up in Chantelli. Played at Freedom High School in South Riding, Virginia. And then four years at William and Mary. Change up a beauty. Swung on and missed. He struck him out. Wow, that was a great change up by Gore. His first change up he’s thrown tonight and he saved it for a good spot. That just the bottom fell out of it. Williamson way out in front of it. So the third strike out for Gore mentioned he started the day as the major league leader in strikeouts. Zack Will of the Phillies in his out against the Braves struck out six. So he actually surpassed Gore before this game started at 94 and Gore is now at 96. JP Crawford the shorts stop left-handed hitter and the fast ball high outside ball one. Both leadoff hitters left-handed hitting right-handed throwing shorts stops off for the Mariners. Abrams for the Nationals. Third baseman Tana is well off the line to the right of the cutout and about even with a third base bag. The pitch in the dirt, blocked by Ruiz. No advance for the runner. And the count two and 0 and a slider in the dirt. A new baseball put into play. Practically the entire defensive alignment for the Nationals is left-handed throwers or left-handed hitters, right-handed throwers. Robert Hassel, the only left-handed thrower. They have Ruiz, a switch hitter, but a lot of lefty righties. Hassel’s the only lefty lefty other than Gore the pitcher. throw to first at the runner back. Don’t have any righty lefties. Righty hitters, lefty throwers. Those are the unicorns. Two balls, no strikes. Runner goes the pitch high. A strike call. The throw on down. Great tag. He is out at second base. What a throw by Karan Ruiz. Then he fired a dart. A high fast ball. called a strike at the top of the zone and that’s one of his best throws of the year. And again, a great quick tag by Abrams, but all he had to do is drop the glove because the throw was absolutely perfect. That I Yeah, that that’s on the mantle of one of his best throws in a couple of years ever. He had a lot on it. Two-1 pitch swung on. Little looper to left coming hard as wood. He’ll get there. He makes the catch for the out and that’ll retire the side. and a leadoff single with a caught stealing. Nobody left after three innings. What is it? in four straight games. Three of his last five hits have been home runs. Seven RBI’s in the four games. He’s in nine of his last 10. 14 for 37, a 378 clip as he takes the next pitch in for a strike of a belt. And the count’s 0 and2 last 10 games, four homers and 15 runs batted in. lays the bat over that left shoulder, then lifts it as the pitch is delivered and looks at a change up too low. One ball and two strikes with him hitting everything middle of the plate and away to left field, left center. Team started pitching him up and in. Next pitch in at the knees inside corner. Perfect pitch called strike three with a fast ball. Well, they really set him up there. The O2 pitch was a waste. change up down and away. And then Raleigh set up right on the inside corner and a little two seam sinker locked Wood up. I think he was probably conscious of everything being away from even that first at bat. First time it had come in on him. Here’s Nathaniel struck out swinging on a high fast ball. First time up and looks at a change up in first strike. He’s due to get hot here. He has struggled in the month of May. Now the pitch way outside, one ball and one strike. Final score, Toronto shut out the Athletics 12 to nothing. Ravens won the night camp in Philadelphia 9 to3 after the Phillies held on for a 5-4 win in the opener. Tampa Bay and Houston 3-3 top seven. Pitch on the ways up and in. The Nationals were to win tonight. Tampa Bay would win at Houston. The Astros would jump over Seattle into first place in the American League West. Astros have won four straight. Pitch swung on line drive right at the shortstop. Crawford makes the catch. Not hit all that hard down toward the end of the bat on a 92 mph fast ball. So, two up and two down. And the Phillies with their split of the double header have won 11 of their last 13. Now the pitch and that one’s low and away. Ball one. Mets are off. They’ll open a series tomorrow night with the Rockies at home. Two games behind the Phillies. Here’s the pitch. Ruiz takes in first strike and the count even one and one on Kar right now is hitless in his last 12 trips to the plate. Started the night at 268. Still looking for his first home run since the second day of the season. Right-hander Hancock delivers. Swinging a foul straight back on the fast ball again. And it’s one and two. [Applause] Hancock ready now and the pitch. But uh here’s Goran to the wine to the pitch and it’s low. You know, but that was about time when you had Mr. Potato Head and Etch a Sketch. Had the Etch a Sketch. There were no That was There were no electronic toys. I caught the early stages of like the handheld, you know, baseball, football. Here’s the wine of the 1-1. Swinging and a miss. Rodriguez threw a change up one and two. It’s like dots. Very primitive to what they have now. I had all, you know, spinning dials. Well, Stratamatic is still as good as ever, right? A couple of dice and some cards and you’re good. Time out for Rodriguez. Four. Three strikeouts. His third strikeout of the bottom of the third was the 500th of his career. Mores into the wine, kicks, delivers. Fast ball fouled off to the right out of play. At 26 years and 94 days old or became the second youngest active pitcher with at least 500 career strikeouts, trailing only Hunter Green, who is 163 days younger. Now the pitch swing and a foul. You never think of yourself as a year and how many days, right? You’re no you’re just a year whatever year old but you never think I’m a year and 96 days. So he’s kind of like a half year difference, right? What was it? 160 something. 94 26 and 94 days. So like 3 months a little over 3 months. One ball, two strikes on Rodriguez. Gore kicks, delivers, and misses just inside of the belt with a cutter and they count two and two. 2-3 and four the Mariners order here in the bottom of the fourth. Rodriguez, Cal Raleigh and Randy Arosena. Pretty good 234. Gore rocks, kicks, he fires, swing, and a fast ball fouled back into the netting a shade under 97 mph. have the pitching matchups for the next series in Phoenix. The Nets will fly to Phoenix after the game tonight. Here’s the wind now. And Gore is 2-2 on the way. Two high with the fast ball. It’s a full count. He rolls to the left side. One out, nobody out for Gore in the bottom of the fourth inning. Arizona will head into that series having lost two straight, seven of eight and eight of 11. They’re under 500. 27 and 29 in fourth place in the NL West seven games back matter now. Cal Raleigh again. Gore and the pitch and a half swing. Did he go? They appeal. No, says first base umpire Edwin Aimenez. Ball one. Raleigh singled left field. His first time up. Stole second. went to third as the throw into center field, but then Gore struck out a Rosarena on the next pitch. Swing and a miss at a heater. Big cut 97 miles an hour on a belt high fast. Saturday night, Michael Siroko will match up against Brandon Faulk for the Diamondbacks. That’ll be a 940 air and a 10-10 first pitch Eastern time. Delivers swing and a miss at the heater. Mitchell Parker, the left-hander for the Nationals, scheduled to go against right-hander Corbin Burns. 340 airtime. 410 first pitch on Nats Radio. 1067. The fan, the nation’s capital, the Nats Radio Network. Here’s the one, two, swing, and a foul tip into the glove of Ruiz for strike three. Came right at him again with another elevated fast ball. That one was up and away and not a strike. So he chased a bit. Got just a piece of it with the end of the bat and Gor strike out number four. We got to tip our cap to John Walton, the Caps Radio voice. That was good morning, good afternoon, good night. Three swings and misses at fast balls. See you later. That’s salute to Bob Carpenter. Here’s the pitch to Randy Roserena outside ball one. A different use of it. He uses it for home runs. I just used it to say see you later from Cal Raleigh. Back to the dugout. Rosarena down swinging in the first as we mentioned. Standing in from the right side again. Morris into the wine. The one on the way in there. Called strike at the belt. Count one and one. He’s been getting some pitches top of the zone or mainly maybe just above that we haven’t seen called the past few days. Every umpire’s a little different. Here’s the pitch. Breaking ball rolled to the ground at 13. It comes in, gets a good hop. Now on the infield grass on the run, he throws in time for the out and the inning is over. Gore has his second one, two, three frame out of four so far. And after four in Seattle, the Nationals nothing, the Marriers nothing on the Nationals Baseball [Music] [Applause] [Music] Network. PGA Tour Radio, Channel 92 in the car and on the Sirius XM app. Once again from the Nissan Broadcast booth, here’s Dave Jaggler. Thank you, Charlie. Luis Garcia has the Nationals only hit, but then he was caught stealing trying a delayed steal. Pitcher Hancock has served foul third base side into the crowd. Hancock has shown a really good change up and the Nationals left-handed hitters have not really been able to zone it up. Not much hit hard. Even Garcia’s hit was a flare. Tall right-hander throws and a broken bat line drive. Base hit in into center field. The barrel ends up by the first baseman, Solano. So Garcia’s bat succumbs, but Garcia is now two for two. He’ll take it. So Garcia lead off hit and they got to clean up some pieces. Look like the barrel like sliced off like a loaf of bread from the top. You’re cutting a piece of Italian bread from stand it up and cut from the top. That’s got to be careful with a sharp knife. Yeah. Here’s Josh Bell. Fly to left. 0 for one. And fires swinging a long drive right field. Tiveres going back to the edge of the warning track. A step on the track, makes the catch. Bell unfortunately hit a top spin fly ball. Didn’t get the backspin and so that one kind of sunk quickly and flies out to deep right on the first pitch. Still like the contact, Dave, that he’s getting that he was not getting for much of the year that has suddenly shown up these last two games. As soon as he hit it, he knew. You could see a grimace on his face on the replay. I didn’t get that one quite enough, especially with the wind continuing to blowing in across toward the third base line. Pitch to Robert Hassel is outside a fast ball. Ball one. Davy Martinez has said all year about Josh Bell, it’s about the timing. It’s out. It’s about catching up, not being too far behind. And the timing is about right right now. The kick and the pitch. Runner goes swinging a line drive. It is fielded by the shortstop Crawford right at the bag. Steps on second, throws to first, double play. How many times this year have the Nationals done that with a runner going, hit the ball right to the second base bag. If the runner’s not going, that’s a base hit. Instead, it’s an inning ending double play. Middle of the fifth, Nationals and Mariners, no score on the Nationals Radio [Music] Network. Zeros across Nationals and Mariners bottom of the fifth. And if Mackenzie Gore is in a game, you figure it’s going to be low scoring. The Nationals and Mckenzie’s last four starts, including tonight, have scored two runs while he’s been in the game. Here’s Dylan Moore leading off. Bottom of the fifth for the Mariners. The pitch on the way. Waved at and missed. Not a kneeh high fast ball. Gore has four strikeouts, one in each inning. He’s not allowed to walk. He has given up two hits. Pair of singles. The step the kick in the 01. High and tight with a heater. One ball, one strike. More Solano and Palano. The Mariners do the wind to the pitch. Moore pops one up. Foul ground first base side. Low lumbering over. Has no play. That one’s about six rows in. McKenzie was in a nothing nothing game until he came out in the seventh inning due to the leg tightening up. And the Giants would score a run after Gore departed tagging him with a loss. So he’s in yet another nothing game. The one-two pitch. Swing and a miss. Struck him out with a slider. That one boring in about knee high on Dylan Moore. And McKenzie Gore with his fifth strikeout. Number 98 on the season. Moore down twice. I tell you what, his stuff is just terrific. Just needs a little more luck to go with it. Just give him a couple of runs. Wow. Here’s Donovan Solano. Pitch to Solano. Curve ball just low. I mean, the Nationals are capable. They showed it last night, but this series has been the ultimate feast or famine. Could say that about both clubs right now. Here’s the 10 change up low. Just had a feeling that after 9 to one Tuesday and 9 to nothing last night that this would probably be a close game. We didn’t know if it would be a four to three or seven to six, but right now it’s nothing to nothing. So, it’s a close game. The two- pitch swinging a foul back over the screen. Two and one on Solano. Tell you what, I’m not I’m not a fan of the Seattle City Connects. If you put some white pants on them instead of the black pants, the black just doesn’t go with the royal blue and gold. Now the 2-1 swinging a popup foul backing out of play. I do like the the Trident logo though. The M with the the old the old school Mariner logo with the Trident. It’s throw back to the 77 Mariners entry into American League play. Same here with the Blue Jays. The 2-2 swinging a fly ball shallow right low. Garcia Lyle all chasing. Garcia closes on it and makes the catch just in fair territory before crossing the line. Two up, two down. The Mariners don’t have a road great jersey. Guess they have a throwback 70s Mariners white uniform blue and gold and their home white and a navy blue jersey and a Tino jersey. So you can only have four plus a City Connect. So two years ago they said decided well we we won’t have a road gray jersey which is sacrilegious. Here’s Palanco bluffing a bunt. Pitches in the dirt. Did he offer? They say no. So Palano who is a switch hitter so far this year kind of in name only. He was bothered by a hip oblique issue and was in discomfort hitting right-handed. So he’s only had 13 at bats this year batting right-handed. Here’s the wind to the 10 way inside at the belt. 2-0. In fact, this is only his third start against the left-handed thrower. He’s coming off offseason knee surgery. Two pitch from Gore to Palanco swinging a ground ball foul wide of third. That looked like a good swing. He was a free agent after last year. Did not pick up his option. Went on the open market and could not find a job elsewhere. will resign with the Mariners in late January. One year, 7 and 3/4 million, plus a mutual option for next year. Coming off a bad year last year when he hit 213. Swinging a fly ball, shallow right center. Hassel and Lyall converging. Lyall cuts in front. Makes a nice running grab and then sprints on toward the third base dugout. Lyall can go get it in center field. Good play. And the Mariners out one, two, three. Still no score after five on the Nationals Radio Network. [Music] Beng invites you to step up to the plate at the BenGM Sportsbook at Nationals Park. We go to the sixth from the Nissan broadcast booth. Here’s Charlie slow booth. Here’s Charlie Slows. All right. Thank you, Dave. Jose Tain will lead off. First pitch swinging in the third. He grounded to the shortstop leading off the inning. Tries to bunt for hit and pops it up. Foul. Chasing Williamson diving. The third baseman cannot hold on to it. Skinning across the warning track and right up against the Nationals dugout. What an effort by Ben Williamson. the Virginia native. He left a track from the edge of the track on the grass almost all the way to the dugout. Skid mark on the dirt morning track. His uniform is filthy now. That’s got to hurt. Fixing his pant legs now. Meanwhile, time for the catcher. Raleigh who in the process of all of that lost his earpiece for the communication device the pitch comp that ball too initially threw off his mask the earpiece went with it 0 and one the count on Tina here’s the pitch looks at one way outside an off speed pitch from Emerson Hancock Now the next one’s on the way. Tina lays off and it is high. Two balls and one strikes. Hancock threw just five pitches in the fifth inning with the help of the inning ending double play. He’s had 53 pitches now here in the sixth. Next delivery called strike to the outside evens the count at two and two on Tana. That’s a tough break. That pitch was not a strike. Should be three and one. It wasn’t really. It was high and outside. It wasn’t really close. He’s called a lot of high strikes both ways. That one high and outside. Not even over the plate. 3-1. Almost the same pitch. Should have been 3-1 outside. Now it is a full count at three and two. Tana using his timeout. Now plants the left foot on the back line of the batters box up on the toes of that right foot. lays the bat over the left shoulder as Hancock comes to the belt from the stretch all of the time. He delivers and he misses low and away with a change up ball for so works his ninth walk of the year. Lead off walk here in the sixth inning. The Nationals have had the leadoff man on base three times. Problem is the first time caught stealing and the second time double play with the runner going. Well, this what they do with third chance here and Dalon Lyle up third baseman Williamson is in on the grass at the cutout thinking he might bunt and he squares and he bunts and bunts it foul behind the plate back to the brick wall. Strike one. This portion of Nationals baseball brought to you by Portner and Shore attorneys at law. Expect more atshore. Call 855port or visit pornerandshore.com. Scoreless game in the sixth. Will he bunt again? A turn to back in is Tana. No tag by Solano. And he threw over for a while. Even the chance to square around. It’s middle innings, but just getting one on the board would be huge. I think he got a bunt again. Here’s the set. Now he squares. And he gets the bunt down. A foul ball. It’s grabbed by Raleigh. Threw it to second. got rid of it so quickly, but he got on the ball so quickly that it didn’t get out in front of the plate. He grabbed it in foul ground. That’s a foul ball. That’s a break because that’s a double play if that ball’s fair. [Applause] He bunted it fair and I think it came back. He grabbed it with his throwing hand. He went right for the throw to second. Tana leads from first. It’s 0 and2 on Lyle. Third baseman is backed up out of the dirt and the pitch. He looks it over and it’s outside. One ball and two strikes. Here is the set of the pitch. Swing and a miss. He struck him out. Boy, he’s going to that change up over and over. That was a beauty. The bottom dropped out of that one. Fourth strikeout for Hancock. His average has fallen from over 300 down to 276. The pitch swing and a line drive foul that’ll be in the seats down the left field line. One ball and one strike. Batting with a runner at first, one out. Top of the sixth inning in a scoreless game here in Seattle. The Mariners have the bullpen going. It’s their lefty. Their lone lefty is throwing. That is Gabe Spire. Here’s the pitch inside high. Abrams ducks out of the way. Jump back away from it. It’s two and one. Abrams gets on with Wood up next. Low behind him. Would they go to their lefty here? Why else would he be up? I mean, obviously the pitch count is very low. Here’s the set now. And the pitch and it is outside. Shows the respect that opposing managers are now having for James Wood that you don’t want to see him come up with two men on in the sixth inning that in the sixth inning that you take your starter who’s been very pitch efficient right out of the game rather than the chance he’d give up a three-run homer. Now the set. Here’s the pitch inside low ball four and Abrams throwing the bat away. Draws his 12th walk of the year. So now we’ll see what Dan Wilson, the manager of the Mariners does here. He’s coming out. So he has Spire in the bullpen. Wilson who took over late last year as the manager of the Mariners with a slow walk heading to the mound. He’s not yet made a signal to the bullpen. See taking his time. There it is. So he is going to take the baseball and the lefty spire is going to come in to face James Wood. He’s heading back over to the dugout. I’m sure he’ll look at some video, talk to his hitting coaches here. We know as we heard from Chris Johnson, national assistant hitting coach in your interview that’s on deck, he’s already prepared for every pitcher they could possibly bring in to face him. So it’s a call to the bullpen for the Mariners and for their starter Anderson Hancock as he heads off. This call to the bullpen brought to you by Main Street Bank. Cheer local, bank local. This is his 24th appearance of the year. Record of 2 and 0, a 2.25 ERA, seven holds, and two blown saves. He whirls around and bluffs Tana back to the bag at second. Abrams the runner at first. Spyers worked 20 innings, allowed 14 hits, two of them homers, struck out 28, and walked only four. a 192 average against and a swing at a line drive down the left field line that’s going to drop in fair into the corner rounding third coming home to score is Tana Abrams speeding around third will score without a play as the throw comes into the shorts stop Crawford in shallow left field James Wood foils the Mariners strategy bring in the lefty spire as he takes the first pitch down the left field line sliced the other way RBI’s 41 and 42 and the Nationals are on the board first here in this one in the top of the sixth inning with one out. It’s the Nationals two and the Mariners nothing. I wish we could rerack our conversation with Chris Johnson that you alluded to. Go the other way. Take your hits against lefties. That’s what he did. Absolutely perfect. Nathaniel O looks at a first pitch sinker outside for ball one. This is a tough matchup. Low 0 for8 five strikeouts from American League days. Spire sets. Runner breaks from third. Wood the pitch a strike. The throw’s too late. In with a feet first pop up slide. Wood steals his ninth base in 12 tries. And now he’s at third with one out and a count of one and one on the hitter. We’ll see now the infield comes in for the Mariners. If Low can get the ball through the infield. Spire kicks, delivers the pitch. Swing foul tip into the glove of the catch of Raleigh for strike two. [Music] Lefties for Spire this year with a wood hit were four for 31 and the pitch taken high. Two balls and two strikes. So he’d given up just four hits and 31 at bats for left-handed hitters against him. That was the second extra base hit. Both doubles. Now Spire delivers. Low swing and a miss and a fast ball. He struck him out. And again they went up up and out of the zone with a fast ball and he has chased some. And that’s a big strike out for the second out of the inning. All right. with the Sirius XM channel, where new hip hop is always on. Charlie Slows, Dave Jaggler with you for the Nissan Broadcast booth here at T-Mobile Park in Seattle. And it looks like home plate umpire and crew chief Andy Fletcher is good to go after taking a foul ball in the upper part of the chest protector. You think of the days when umpires wore the outside chest protector. It seemed to give you a lot more protection, thicker. The National League umpires when they were two different sets of umpires, Dave. National League umpires, American League umpires, they went to the inside chest protector years before the American League. And so the strike zones were different because the National League umpires would get down lower behind the catcher. And the American League umpires could pull that chest protector up under their chin and stand higher behind the catcher and more in the middle of the plate. Gore delivers breaking ball popped off foul to the right and out of play. Eventually they all went to the inside chest protector and eventually they merged the umpires. So there weren’t two sets of umpires, one for each lead. No balls, two strikes. Morris into the wind and now the pitch. a bouncer in the dirt and that came up and got Andy Fletcher. So, a foul ball of his chest. I’m not sure where this one got him, but he’s Well, he’s not standing up straight, so I have I have an idea. I That’s a tough span of three pitches for Mr. Fletcher. Usually, it’s the catcher that takes all this abuse. Well, if he if the one with the chest protector took his breath away, I’m sure that one wasn’t much different. Good gosh. One ball, two strikes on Leodyver. Two nothing Nationals. Lead off batter. Bottom of the sixth. Gore into the wine of the pitch in the dirt off the glove of Ruiz and bounces away. Two and two. I’m sure Andy Fletcher wanted to say thank you to Ruiz for getting a glove on that ball. Diver single to right center in the third and then was thrown out on an absolute seed of a throw by Ruiz trying to steal second to two on the way in the dirt again with a breaking ball and that one got Kar Ruiz he was next. So now Fletcher will give him some time and walks out toward the mound and makes a left-handed throw of a baseball to Gore. This has been an odd at bat. Gore has bounced three breaking balls in a row. Ruiz wearing all gray catchers gear trimmed in red. Says he’s okay and ready to go. Payoff pitch on the way. Swinging a bouncing ball toward the middle. Abrams can’t get there to his left. It’s on through to center field and Tiverus is two for [Applause] two. Well, he is aboard. We’ll see him tries to run. His team down by two. and Williamson, the rookie third baseman, coming up. Gor struck him out with a diving change up. The first change up he threw of the game to get the first out in the bottom of the third. The time up for Williamson. They’ll play him a bit the other way in the outfield toward right. Wood is way over to left center. Hassle to right center. Lyall toward the line. A swing and a line drive. Foul outside of first down the line into the seats out of play. No balls, one strike to count. [Applause] attendance. The first two games of the series been very similar just under 20,000. Gore kicks, delivers off speed, swung on, foul ball. Got a piece of Ruiz on a curve ball and the count is 0 and two. JP Crawford the leadoff batter to hit next for the Mariners. going to the belt. He kicks. He delivers inside and low and the count one and twos. Williamson jumped out of the way of it. Get game day ready at mlbshop.com. Shop jerseys, caps, hoodies, and more all in one place. Williamson around seconding from third and will get the ball into second base. Perfectly placed ground ball gets through the middle of the diamond. Garcia could not get there to his right. And with it not hit hard, easily to third with his speed and the Mariners with back-to- back hits for the first time. They have four hits of the game. Runner in scoring position for the second time. And time call. Jim Hickey out of the Nationals dugout. He is on his way to the bounds. The slow down in action is brought to you by Eiserve. Second Nationals are going to get Jorge Lopez going. But you no one on their team might be more equipped to get out of this pickle than Gore with his ability to get the swing and miss. Lopez beginning to throw as Gore is at 77 pitches here in the sixth inning. Now here comes Andy Fletcher, the home plate umpire, out toward the mound to break up the meeting. Gives us a chance to remind you that Sunday, June 15th, when the Miami Marlins are in town for a 135 game with the Nats, celebrate 20 seasons of Nats baseball in style. JP Crawford will stand in out on a bloop to short and a fly to left and the pitch in there. Called strike with a slider to start him off. Tana the third baseman is just at the edge of the grass to the right of the cutout. Low holding the runner Williamson at first. Abrams shaded up the middle. Garcia straight up at second. Outfield a touch the other way toward left. Gore fires. Swing and a miss with the heat at 96 mph. And it’s 0 and two. When you need it, that’s there like no one else. It’s the big heater. Will he throw him another one? Gore sets kicks. Here it comes. And it was a fast ball. Called strike three. And Crawford is going to argue that it was outside. He’s in the face of Andy Fletcher. And he has been ejected. Thrown out of the game. Here comes the manager, Dan Wilson. And Crawford, you could hear him in the face of Andy Fletcher. In his defense, Dave, the pitch was not in the strike zone. In his defense, it’s not in the strike zone, but you can’t get yourself thrown out there. No. I mean, he’s a key part of their team and he just got himself tossed and he earned it. So, the strike out, the first out of the inning, and now the batter will be Rodriguez. That’s not the first pitch tonight that a hitter would have a beef about. maybe a culmination of them. See, he’s talking about the high pitches. Did you see that? Holding his hand up in the air. We said he’s called a lot of pitches that have been up and out of the zone normally. Well, that pitch wasn’t high. That pitch was outside. Outside. Yep. I think he was going he was going on and about a lot of pitches. Chance of Julio. Julio as Gore comes set. Here’s the pitch. Off speed. A curveball to start him off. That one just off the plate. Away ball one. Rodriguez is grounded to second. Grounded to short. Nats playing for two up the middle. On out, runners first and third. Nats leading two to nothing. Go to the belt to kick in the pitch. Swing and a miss. 95 mph fast ball and the count. One ball, one strike. Outfield shooting him at the opposite way toward right. Harris at third. Williamson at first, held by Low. Gore to the belt. The kick and the pitch. Swing and a fast ball fouled back into the screen. One ball and two strikes. Looks like Lopez has had enough time to be ready in the Nationals bullpen. It may take emptying the tank for Gore to pitch through this inning. He’s at 83 pitches right now. And now time called as Rodriguez jumps out of the batters box. Off to the left of the plate. Right-handed hitter ready to get back in now. Multicolored blue and white spikes with the City Connect uniforms of the Mariners. Gore to the belt. Here’s the kick. Here’s the pitch. Swing and immens. He struck him out with a cutter running in. A very awkward swing by Rodriguez and Gore has his seventh strike out. We said that this would be the guy to get you out of the jam with the strikeout stuff. That’s his 100th strikeout of the year. And this sets up the matchup that we saw in the fourth inning when he blew Cal Raleigh away with three consecutive high fast balls. Does he do the same here? Raleigh is their home run threat. You make a mistake, you don’t get it high enough, you could put the Mariners ahead with one swing. It’s a a precarious spot and Ruiz just made a quick visit to the mound to talk it over with Gore to make sure they’re on the same page here in this approach. Gore 100 strikeouts through 12 starts. Max Scherzer did it five times. Steven Strawber once. Now the pitch swing and a fast ball fouled back into the screen. [Applause] Nothing in one. The premier power hitting catcher in the big leagues these days. Cal Raleigh. Gore coming set now. Kicks and fires. Off speed. Gets away from Ruiz. Not far enough. Runner at third holds. Runner at first. Breaks for second. No play on Williamson. They went to a curveball. He’s had trouble with the breaking ball this inning and bounce. Well, Ruiz was sliding over from set up inside. It’s almost like he was trying to pounce on a fumble. He didn’t he didn’t block it or get a glove on it. He moved over and the ball kind of glanced off his body, but that wild pitch, while it saves a run, it does put the tying run into scoring positions. That’s big. I think his focus was to not let it get by him with a runner at third. Breaking ball low again. Two and one. Well, he’s behind now. We’ll see if he goes to the heat. New ball put in play. Crowd here at T-Mobile Park. Fired up for the big dumper as he’s called by his teammates. Cal Raleigh. Runners on second and third. Two out. Gore comes kicks and fires and it’s a curveball. Drops in for a strike. He finally threw a good one and it’s two and two. Now we’ll see what they throw him. I think he put him away with the high heater. You got to get it above the letters like he did in the [Music] fourth. See if he gets help again with a big strike zone that everyone’s had tonight. Gore kicks, delivers, fast ball and it’s nubbed foul outside of first. No play. jammed him with a heater thigh high at 95 miles an hour and somehow fought that off. Hit it right off the very end of the bat and I think he he kind of shattered off a little sliver of the bat. Yeah, if you have those hollowed out ends and that’s usually a swing hit that part of the bat on a change up, but that was on a fast ball running in on him. How about the awkward swing he got from Rodriguez to strike out? Looked like he tied himself up. Pitch was running in and then he tried maybe to foul it off and he couldn’t do it. Raleigh putting some spraying some sticky stuff on the bat for grip. He’s making more weight on him. Trying to freeze ice the kicker. [Applause] [Music] Two balls, two strikes. Runners second and third. Two out. Bottom of the sixth inning. Nationals two in the Mariners nothing. Back in for the right side is Raleigh. Gore coming set. the kick. And here it comes. It’s inside. And did it hit him? He’s saying it did. Andy Fletcher now signals it did hit him. He’s grazed by a cutter on a 2-2. And that blows the bases. So for Gore, the second batter he’s hit this year, both right-handed hitters. So he tried to strike him out on the same pitch he struck out Rodriguez with a cutter running in. So now it’s going to be Randy Rosarena with the bases loaded. Morris is at 90 pitches and now he steps off. That’s a disengagement. Diver at third, Williamson at second, Raleigh at first. Rosarena struck out swinging and he’s bounced to third. Thor delivers. First pitch inside ball one with a 96 mph fast ball. Davy Martinez giving his ace the chance. Pitch his way out of this inning. There’s Arena facing Gore for the first time in his career here tonight. Now the pitch on the way. Fast ball too low. Two balls, no strikes. Rosarena is 0 for eight in the series. Gore coming to the belt. Two-0 pitch swing and a miss and a 96 mph fast ball running in thigh high. Two balls in a [Applause] strike. When in doubt, it’s the Heat. Here’s the next swing and a miss and a fast ball. Two balls and two strikes. Gore gets the return throw. Decides to rub up the baseball. Just off to the third base side of the rubber now. Reto already coming set. Base is loaded. Two out. The two- two pitch. Swing and a miss. He struck him out. A 96 mile hour fast ball and the inning is over. The base is left loaded for the Mariners. What a job by McKenzie Gore. Strikeout number eight. You said it, Dave. If anyone could do it, it’d be Gore in this situation. All three outs on strikeouts. And Gore with an emotional primal scream after completing the strikeout to end the inning. I couldn’t hear him when I was screaming. No runs, two hits, a hit batter. And three men left after six in Seattle. The Nationals too, the Mariners nothing on the Nationals Baseball [Music] Network. At Lidos, we make things smarter and more efficient. Two nothing Nationals as we go to the seventh inning. The Mariners have to make some changes in the infield. Dylan Moore started the game at second. Moves to shortstop. Leo Reebas takes over at second base. All that with JP Crawford ejected from the game and the Mariners have a new pitcher on the mound. It’s right-hander Carlos Vargas. Luis Garcia first to face him. First pitch is low and outside. Ball one. Gabe Spire worked two/3 of an inning. One hit, one strikeout. Seven pitches allowed two inherited runners to score. Five and a third for Emerson Hancock. Two runs, two hits, struck out, four walked, three fast ball outside. two and 0 and of course he left in a nothing nothing game with a couple of men on base end up being charged to his record. Garcia two for two a single to left center and a single to center. Vargas delivers swinging a shot up the middle one up off the chest of Mory picks it up and throws to first in time to Solano for the out. An absolute rocket off the bat of Garcia. My goodness. Tough luck there. banging that one off the chest of Moore in his first chance at shortstop for Carlos Vargas, the new pitcher. His 23rd appearance, one and three record and a 3.12 Yari with seven holds and a save in two tries. Facing Josh Bell swinging a ground ball the left side off the chest of the third baseman Williamson. He picks it up and throws too late. Bell is aboard. Williamson looking down at the dirt on a ball that was really for him a bad hop and came up and hit him in the chest. So, we’ll wait and see how the official scorer will rule as Robert Hassel the third will come up. It scored a bad hop base in and Bell will take it. Hassel has grounded a second and then with a runner Garcia going in the fifth inning. He has hit a shot up the middle right toward the second base bang with a short stop. Crawford was going to cover swinging a foul off to the left and out of play. Crawford fielded it had an easy double play. So Hasselo for two after his three hit game last night and included his first major league home run. Vargas comeet he delivers. Swinging a ground ball through the hole a base hit right field. Bell let that one cross in front of him. So he’ll go to second and stop there as the right fielder Toiverz gets the ball in. So one out runners first and second for the Nationals and Jos Tina coming up. Vargas a hard thrower fast ball coming in throwing at 61% of the time is averaged 97 m an hour. He’s a cutter in the low 90s and a slider in the upper 80s. He was originally signed by Cleveland July of 2016 at the age of 16 and acquired from Arizona in January of 23 and the deal that sent AU Heno Suarez to the Diamondbacks. Now the pitch and Tana takes a called strike. Jose bout to short. Drew Walk leading off the sixth inning when the Nets put their two runs on the board. He scored the first run of the game. Vargas to the belt. He delivers. Swing and a miss. And the count is 0 and two as he went off speed to get strike two. Vargas we said started with Cleveland. He was traded to Arizona in November of 22. And the pitch swinging a ground ball to first. Backhanded by Solano to second for one. Relay to first. Not in time. Really good play by Donovan Solano going to his right. It’s the force on Hassel. Three to six. Morris reles. So the nets up runners on the corners now with two out. Love to tack on. They they missed the opportunity to tack on last inning with the strike out and the fly out leaving Wood at third. Now you got first and third. Two down. Chance to create a little separation for Gore if he stays in or the bullpen. Vargas with the big stuff. Still has not been a big strikeout pitcher. Came in with 22 strikeouts in 26 innings, allowing 30 hits, including three homers. The batter is Dalon Lyall. And the first pitch to him is low and inside. Ball one. Left-handed swinging Lyle is grounded to second and struck out. Both at bats against the starter Emerson Hancock. The third baseman, Williamson, is on the edge of the grass right at the cutout. And now the pitch too low with a fast ball and the count 2 and 0. That one at 99 m an hour from Carlos Vargas. He’s 6’4 listed at 210, 25 years of age from the Dominican Republic. He comes to the belt. Kicks deliver. Swing and a line drive caught right into the glove of the first baseman. Donovan Solano did not have to move. That was a cutter and Lyall hit it hard and unfortunately right to the first baseman. So the Nats have been snake bit in this inning with a couple of rockets that were fielded. No runs, two hits. They leave two men aboard and we have come to the seventh inning stretch in Seattle. It’s Washington 2 Seattle nothing on the Nationals Baseball Network. Well, McKenzie Gore’s night is over. He let it all left it all out there in the sixth inning. Empty the tank to get out of a bases loaded situation and finishes six innings. No runs for it struck out eight walked none did hit a batter. 95 pitches, 60 strikes. Now it’s up to the right-hander taking over here in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Nationals. Lopez has a record of 6-0. He’s tied for second in the National League and sixth in the major leagues in wins 6 and0 in the near of an even sixth that’s been coming down five holds five holds a save in three tries and in 24 innings he’s allowed 23 hits just one home run struck out 16 walked six 256 average against him and the Mariners go to the bench for Miles Mastro is a pinch hitter for Dylan Moore first pitch is off speed and that one missed inside ball So Moore had just moved from second base to shortstop now with a right-hander in. He’s out of the game. Now the pitch on the way. That one is inside and the count 2 and 0. More struck out of each of his first two at bats or his two at bats total against Gore. Master Bony started last night’s game at second base before more pinch hit for him in the eighth inning and a pair of singles of the game. Takes a called strike. It’s two and one. Tell you right now, neither hitter nor pitcher knows what to do. Both pitches in the same spot. Lopez was unhappy about the ball. Master Bony’s unhappy about the strike. Yeah, it’s been all over the place for everybody all night. And that’s what JP Crawford was upset about. High strike called against him when Ruiz threw out Tivera stealing. I don’t think he was arguing for just himself for everybody. Lopez kicks from the first base of the rubber. Fast ball popped up fouled and out of play. Mariners are going to go deep into their bench. They’re going to pinch hit Rowdy Tles after Mastra. You know, TZ would be a guy you would pinch run for, but they don’t really have anybody left other than Mitch Garber, who’s not fast, right? And there’s positions where they platoon. Lopez delivers inside ball three. Three and two miss with a fast ball. Master’s one for 11 as a pinch hitter this year with a single, four for 36 in his career as a pinch hitter. and for the season for the Mariners. Strabony hitting 231, 21 hits, three doubles, a homer, eight knocked in. That’s playing him on the infield up the middle on the left side and he swings in a fast actually a change up fouls it away. Left side out of play to pull in the infield and bit the other way to left in the outfield. Lopez kicks, delivers the pitch, and he missed with a change up outside ball for the dreaded leadoff walk. So, here comes Rowdy TZ. Long ball power. He’s hit a pinch hit home run this year. He’s three for six as a pinch hitter with a homer and three RBI’s. He has 21 career pinch hits, including six doubles, a triple, and seven home runs. The year Tles hitting at 214, four doubles and eight homers, 23 runs batted in. He was one for three with a single in last night’s game. Let’s play him about the same way they were playing Master Jone. And the pitch inside ball one. And that pitch was a strike. And Lopez is about to get tossed. Lopez can really get hot. Ruiz is trying to stand in front of the home plate umpire. And now Dave Martinez is coming out. He’s coming out to try and calm Lopez down. That pitch was all over the that pitch was in the strike zone. Y like the second pitch to Mastro. And so that’s two that Fletcher’s missed on the inside corner. And yeah, he I’m surprised that he let Lopez stay in the game. He already tossed Crawford. And good job by Kar Ruiz to get in the middle of Fletcher and Lopez cuz Jorge was bidding to have himself an early exit. I think the best thing you could do is turn around to the umpire and go la so he can’t hear what Lopez is saying. I don’t know that they they teach that, but that that would work. You know, anything to get in front of him as a screen so he can’t see or hear Lopez. Well, Davy Martinez, who doesn’t often make visits to the mound mid at bat or without making a pitching change, had to do just that to say, “Forget about it.” Jose Ferrer, the lefty, getting up now in the Nets bullpen. Lopez set kicks and delivers over the inside corner. Called strike. And that wasn’t as good as the last pitch. Oh, the same thing happened to Master Bone. Now Tles is upset. I mean, literally the balls are strikes and the strikes are balls right now. Lopez sets, kicks, delivers, breaking ball in there. Called strike. That was right in the heart of the play. TZ against Lopez. One out of four a double in prior matchups. Lopez is ready. First base side of the slab. He kicks. He delivers inside and low. Two and [Applause] two. Abrams way up the middle. Tana the third baseman toward the hole. Garcia straight up at second. Low holding the runner. Mastrovi at first. The kick and the pitch. Swing and he gs one foul. Third base side out of play. That one at the bottom of the zone. Fast ball at 96 from Lopez. Cole Henry up alongside Ferrer now. So lefty and righty in the Nats pen. Lopez sets kicks and delivers. Breaking ball popped up. Foul. This is going to make the seats behind the plate. And off to our left. Two balls, two strikes. TZ back in. Still talking to Andy Fletcher. He’s close to the plate. Stance a hair. Open the pitch. Breaking ball. Slap foul. He’s got a piece over toward the Nationals dugout. They’ll do it again. The eighth pitch coming now to him in this at bat. He just got a piece of the breaking ball. Switch hitting Jorge Palano on deck. The designated hitter tonight. Here’s the set now. And Lopez steps off looking the runner back. So that’s going to be two two disengagements here without a throw over. [Applause] Two balls, two strikes. the kick and here it comes. Curveball check swing. He went too far. He’s out on strikes and TZ knew it. Swinging a pitch in the dirt. Big first out for Lopez. And now Palanco will come up against the starter McKenzie Gore batting right-handed. He flyed to shallow right, fly to medium deep right center. Both times caught by the right fielder Lyle. So he turns around to bat left-handed. Blanco’s been better left-handed. 276 all 10 of his home runs left-handed. Not many at bats right-handed as we noted early in the game. Breaking ball low. Ball one. Had a bit of a side strain that made it more difficult to swing right-handed. So, he wasn’t playing against left-handed pitching, but did start tonight. Here’s the set now. Lopez delivers. Fast ball hit hard. Knocked down by Low. He’ll pick it up. He’ll step on the bag for the out. And he fielded it cleanly. He was thinking double play, but that was a rocket just to keep it on the infield. Was a good play. He gets the second out of the inning as Master Bone goes to second. That was a shot. Yeah, he may. Palano was not really running hard out of the box, but he didn’t know that at time. Just happy to take it out and not risk a throw to second. Had he thrown a second, I think they could have had the double play simply because Palano didn’t hustle down the line. Here’s Leodyver’s single to right center. Single to center. Two for two. Swinging a line drive. Base hit left field. Coming up to get it. Wood. Runner coming home. Throw to the plate. Cut off by Tana. Throw to first. Tamaris back safely. And it’s a one-run game. Leody Taris turning around left-handed. Has his third hit of the game. Three for three singles and drives in his 16th run of the year. And it’s now the Nationals two and the Mariners one. Ben Williamson, the number nine hitter in the lineup coming up. And now very much the stolen base in play. Lopez very slow to the plate. [Applause] Here’s the pitch. And that one is in there. I called strike one. And on that pitch, Tiverus was putting on his gear. His he wasn’t even ready for to to take a lead. Base Steelers three for three against Lopez this year. One career pickoff. Runner goes the pitch high and Ruiz does not make a throw. He’s so slow to the plate he had no chance. So Tiveris was thrown out back in the third inning gets his ninth steal of the year in 12 tries. Tying run in scoring position. Two out and a one ball, one strike count. Now you focus on the hitter. Lopez delivers. Swing and a miss. And the count one and two. He does not have a slide move. Davies. He’s got that leg kick and it kind of hangs there. It’s a high kick and so that was easy for the runner. One ball, two strikes. Takes a look at the runner as he comes down. He kicks. He delivers and it pitches high to the back stop. Bounces back to Ruiz. Runner breaks. The throw is high off the glove of Tina. Scooped up by Abrams coming over and the runner safe at third when it looked like they had a chance to get him. I think he was dead to Rice with a good throw. Good throw has him, but fortunately Tana got a glove on the high throw or this game would be tied. The throw was so high. The ball came right back to Ruiz and he threw it and it was high and Tana leaped to his left. Came off the bag and leaped to his left and deflected it. Knocked it down. So that’s a wild pitch to move the runner. Tying run at third. Two balls, two strikes. Lopez delivers and the pitch is just high. That’s been a strike a lot tonight. Three balls, two strikes, two outs as T-Mobile Park gets loud. Lopez from the stretch kicks and delivers. Swinging a line drive basic right field and the tying run comes home. The rookie Ben Williamson, the Virginia native, gets his second into the night and drives in his 13th run of the year. And McKenzie Gore will not have a chance to win again. Long save for Jorge Lopez. Started the inning with a leadoff walk. Got two outs, then a pair of base hits. The wild pitch included to move the runner. And that’ll be it for Jorge Lopez. Davy Martinez coming out. He’s going for the rightander in Cole Henry with Rivas the next hitter. So, it’s a call to the bullpen here in the bottom of the seventh inning. And brought to you by Main Street Bank with two out. The game tied now. The Nationals two and the Mariners two. Back after the pitching change break on the Nationals Baseball Network. He comes in with a runner at first, two out, face the switch in Leo Rivas. And Reebus just into the game in the last half inning defensively after Crawford, their shorts stop was ejected and Dylan Moore moved over to short. Rivas is a switch hitter hitting at 276 just 212 left-handed and the pitch in first strike. So Davy Martinez opts for the right-hander Henry. 17 doubles a triple. No homers and three runs batted in for Revas. Drawing 12 walks. Struck out 14 times but just seventh for 33 left-handed. Henry delivers. Fast ball is inside. One ball and one strike for Cole Henry. His 17th appearance. no record, a 2.45 RA with a couple of holds. 18 in the third inning. He’s allowed five runs, 10 hits, struck out 18 walks, six. He has hit five batters. And he turns and throws to first. The runner Williamson dives back in. Jorge Lopez two/3 of an inning. Charged with two runs, two hits to walk a strike out. 24 pitches, 14 strikes. Henry inheriting the runner. That is Lopez responsibility and the pitch. Tries to bunt. Bunts it foul back into the screen. Try to bunt for a hit with two out. Henry’s had seven inherited runners, stranding six. They’d like to end this inning here. The leadoff walk issued by the reliever usually is a sign of bad things to come. And that’s how this inning started. And Lopez got into it with a home plate umpire, Andy Fletcher. Well, Fletcher never responded, but Davy Martinez had to come out and calm him down. Here’s the set now. Henry holds and turns and throws to first. Close play. He’s back in safely now. The two disengagements used. Williamson has one stolen base attempt and been caught. So he’s not been a Mariner run as Henry Cub said. Runner goes. The pitch is high. Throw by Ruiz. The tag by Abrams. Safe. Throw kind of sailed again. Tailed to the right of second base and Abrams had a lunge for it to catch it. Although he made a play like that back in the third inning tag out to Varis. He couldn’t get the tag on him this time. They basically gave him the chance to steal the base with the two pickoff throws and the Mariners take it. They have taken the extra base repeatedly in this inning. Henry needs to make a pitch. Two and two. Swung on. Fouled back and out of play. He’ll do it again on two and two. [Applause] [Applause] Henry comes set first base shot of the rubber. Takes a look at the runner at second and fires. Swing and a miss. Struck him out. And the seventh inning finally comes to a close. The Mariners tie the game. Two runs, two hits. There was a walk. They had a couple of steals. They had a wild pitch. And they leave a man at second. At the end of seven, it’s the Nationals to the Mariners two on the Nationals Baseball [Music] Network. Long time this was a nothing tie. The Nationals scored two runs in the sixth inning. McKenzie Gore pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the sixth to finish up the bullpen with Jorge Lopez coming out of the seventh. Could not hold that lead. Mariners have tied at 22 as we head toward the eighth. New pitch for the Mariners will be their fourth of the night. Rightander Matt Brash to take over. Top of the order. CJ Abrams to lead off. Nationals two Mariners to once again with a playbyplay for the Nissan Broadcast booth here in Seattle. Here’s Dave Jack. Thank you, Charlie. The 27-year-old brash just back from Tommy John surgery and the Mariners are happy to have him back in his eighth inning setup roll. Big fast ball and a huge sweeping slider. His best pitch. CJ Abrams leads off. Brash fires and the slider is swung on and fouled off the middle of the catcher. Cal Raleigh defensively almost an entirely new infield. Rowdy Tles takes over at first. Miles Mastrobi the second baseman and Leo Rivas moves from second base to shortstop. So only Williamson who delivered the game tying hit stays in place. Brash making his eighth appearance since coming back from Tommy John is not allowed a run. Three hits over six innings of work. Brash deals and a slider swung on and missed. 0 and two on Abrams who was 0 for two with a walk. Hitless in the series one for his last 24. Here’s the O2 swinging a foul and that one stung Cal Raleigh. He’s down on hands and knees now. Pushing himself up to his feet and hobbling a bit. I think he got it off the shoe like a foul ball when you’re hitting. Brashborn in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Pitched collegiately at Niagara. was originally drafted by the Padres’s and traded in the co year and he was a workhorse for Seattle in the 23 season. 78 appearances, nine wins, 24 holds, four saves. Then Tommy John’s surgery early last year. The O2 breaking ball got him swinging. All breaking balls. Down goes Abrams and a first out on a strikeout here in the top of the eighth. That’s as good as moving, breaking pitches. You’ll see. Well, let’s see what James Wood can do with it. Wood, the big hit for the Nationals in the sixth inning, a two-run double, broke the scoreless deadlock, but then they left him at third with one out. Low struck out. Ruiz flyed out. Here’s the pitch. Breaking ball inside corner for a strike. Nets had first and third last inning when Lyall lined out. Mariners tie it with two. And now you’re dealing with the iron of their bullpen. Brash and I’ll tell you their closer Munoz. No balls in a strike. The pitch to Wood outside with a change up. When you talk about Brash the setup man and Munoz the closer, their combined erra is zero. Zero. So they’re due to give up something, right? The 1-1 swing and that one running in on him and it’s fouled back to the back stop. That was a slider that caused Wood to chase a pitch that was running in. Almost hit [Applause] him out field straight away. Third baseman Williamson in a shorts stop position. The one two to Wood swinging a miss. Got him on the breaking ball. So Brash strike out Abrams. He strikes out Wood. Two down in that 23 season. His last full year. He was second in the major leagues in strikeouts by a reliever and third in the major leagues in strikeouts per nine. He is a strikeout pitcher. Here’s the pitch to Nathaniel Low. Fast ball belt high for a strike. Low one for 11 in the series. 0 for two. Two strikeouts tonight. 0 for three. Two strikeouts tonight. And the pitch half swing and went too far as he chased the slider. Brash is on the verge of striking out the side. Low takes a timeout. Two-2 game. Top of the eighth. The momentum and the crowd clearly on the Mariners [Applause] side. Here’s the set. The O2 Sweno looping line drive right side over the leaping Mastro the second baseman for a base hit. So Low gets totally jammed and is able to fist one into shallow right center field for a hit, denying Brash the strike out of the side. So Keet Ruiz will come up. Ruiz put a charge into one, batting right-handed in the sixth inning, flyed out to the warning track in deep left center. He will battle left-handed against Brash. The pitch swing a bouncing ball foul as Ruiz went after a first pitch breaking ball. Ruiz that left hand that the at bat batting right hand in the sixth. The only at bat of the series that the Nationals had a right-handed hitter at the plate and he flyed out on the first [Applause] pitch. 01 fast ball running just inside at 96. A ball and a strike. Mariners will have Rodriguez, Raleigh, and a Rose Arena in the bottom of the eighth. Ferrer warming in the bullpen. The pitch swing a tapper foul toward the first base side dugout. The Nationals could stick with Cole Henry. Struck out the lone batter he faced, relieving Lopez in the [Applause] seventh. when ball two strikes on the Nationals catcher Ruiz Brash fires swing a ground ball right side base hit into right field low rounding second he’ll slam on the brakes fires it in and it’s cut off side of the mound by Rivas so Ke Ruiz like Low singles with two strikes on him and the Nationals trying to get something going with two down here against Brash they have two on now for Luis Garcia [Applause] Jr. Luis made some good contact. See if he can come through here. Although unable or did not risk going first to third with two outs. So it’s not automatic that he can score on a base hit. He is not fast. Garcia hits in his first two at bats and a ground out to short in his third. Brash fires. Fast ball poured in there for a strike. Lo’s got to get a big secondary lead and a good jump on the crack of the bat. Here’s the pitch. Swing a line drive right side. Base hit right center field. They’re going to wave him in. Tiveres throw to the plate. Comes in high. Raleigh makes the catch, gets the tag down and he’s out. Tiveres throws out his former teammate low at the plate with an acrobatic tag by Raleigh. A terrific catch throw there on the fly. He tags the slotting low for the third out and the Nationals denied the go-ahead run on the Garcia base hit. And they’ve been aggressive on the bases. And when it’s difficult to score, you take the chance that maybe the throw won’t be perfect. It pretty much was. Three hits, two left. Two-2 game after seven and a half on the Nationals Radio Network. [Music] This is Germaine Johnson, regional president of PNC Bank. So, it’s 2-2 the score remaining as Julio Rodriguez faces Cole Henry who will remain in the game to face the right-handed hitting Mariner star. Here’s the pitch from Henry. Breaking ball up and outside. Ball one. When Low went from first to second on the base hit by Ruiz, he could not get to third. Did not try to go to third. said it wasn’t automatic he’d score in a hit and he’s gone down to end the eighth. The pitch fast ball strike over the outside corner. So big spot for Cole Henry who continues to get high leverage situations. Got the big got the big strike out to hold the tie in the bottom of the seventh. The 1-1 to Rodriguez inside and it hit him. Did he swing at it? He did not on the appeal. And Rodriguez is hurt. Only got him on the right hand or wrist. And Cole Henry, the only issue he’s had is the hit batters. That’s his sixth hit batter. And Rodriguez in a lot of pain. That one got him on the back of the hand and wrist. And Julio is being tended to by the Mariners trainer. They’re doing the grip test. Kyle Torerson is the Mariners trainer. And Rodriguez brought his hands right into the path of that pitch. A fast ball riding up and in. The Mariners are right now very light on the bench. Their only available bench player is Mitch Garver, who’s a a catcher DH. So Rodriguez still being tended to as a hushed silence has fallen over this crowd of nearly 20,000 with their star center fielder in pain. Yeah, it got him on the back side of the hand, the outside towards that bone of your wrist. You just hope nothing’s broken. I don’t know what choice they have for him other than to to stay in the game, at least to run. He’s taken a long time now. He’s peeling off the the guard on his other arm and still talking it over with the trainer. That is his throwing hand when he’s in the outfield. He just he just swinged out in pain. Yep. [Applause] He’s walking with the trainer and with Dan Wilson toward first base making it seem like he’ll stay in the game, but again maybe just to to run. You don’t know as you say throwing hand how impacted he’d be defensively. They showed a replay of it on the video board and fans are ooing and eyeing. They he wears an oven mitt on the the left hand when he runs the bases. They want the trainer wants one for the right hand, too. I mean, normally he doesn’t wear that, but they want to protect that that hand wrist that just got hit. So, they’re going to run a second oven mitt out to him. And Eric Young Jr., the first base coach, may have to put it on for him because there’s an oven mitt already on the left hand. Yeah, there’s no fingers. Well, right now he’s he’s not using it. Ey is holding that one. Here’s Cal Raleigh with the leadoff man on with the hit by pitch. Henry to the belt. Here it comes. That one’s inside. Belt high at 95. Ferrer has been up in the bullpen. He is. This is the third batter. Yeah. After you get through a Rosena, they have lefty and lefty. Here’s the pitch. Runner goes. It’s inside. Ruiz throw. The tag by Abrams. Too late. Stolen base. That was close. And I think he’s feeling it on the slide again. And he chose not to wear the oven [Applause] mitt. Nationals look at a replay. Will not challenge. Yeah, that right hand hit the dirt. Left hand to the base and left hand. He came off the bag. The left foot went out of the bag. Keep from getting tagged out off the bag. Mariners have stolen three bases in the last two innings. Go ahead run at second. No outs. to O to Cal Raleigh swinging a miss and a high fast ball. One of the bigger spots Cole Henry’s been in now the set at the belt. A long hold and a pickoff play throw to second. Rodriguez goes in standing. Was practically back on the bag when Henry released the throw. Nationals two, Mariners two. Bottom of the eighth, no outs. Henry Deals swing a line drive hooked down the right field line. That’ll be a foul ball. Takes a bounce up into the crowd. Foul by a couple of feet. So the count level at two and two. [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] now the set at the belt. Henry delivers on two and two. Way too high with a 95 mileph fast [Applause] ball. A walk here would bring a Rosena up as Raleigh takes timeout. It would put the double play in order. Takes off his batting helmet, smooths his hair, puts his helmet back on and will dig in from the left side. He’s milking this timeout. Rodriguez, the go-ahehead run at second. He takes his lead. 3-2 pitch from Cole Henry. Jammed him. And this one is chopped foul past Christopher Negron coaching at third. That was a defensive swing. [Applause] blowing on his pitching hand on this cool night. Lights beginning to have more of an effect. The sun beginning to set. Here comes the 3-2 upstairs. Ball four. And he walked up. Hit batter and a walk. Two on, no outs. We’ll pause for station identification on the Nationals Radio Network. For year round baseball coverage, turn to MLB Network Radio included with your SiriusXM subscription on SiriusXM 89 and the Sirius XM app. Good morning back in the nation’s capital from the Nissan Broadcast booth. Dave Jaggler, Charlie Slows. Tight spot, two on, no outs, two game. Pitch to Randy Rose Arena. Breaking ball the curve outside. So Henry who generally comes in attacking the strike zone has had it elude him in this appearance a hit batter and a walk fueling this rally for the Mariners. The 10 swinging a popup on the infield. Tana moving in calling for it straddling the line steps into fair territory and makes the catch with the infield fly rule in play. Now Davey Martinez can get the lefty lefty matchups here and here he comes to make a call to the bullpen brought to you by Main Street Bank. So Henry gets a big first out. Ferrer will come in as you’ve got Mastraboni and TZ, a pair of left-handed hitters. Coming up, we’ll take that pitching change break. Runners at second and first after a hit batter in a walk. Tie game at two with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. And Ferrer makes appearance number 28. One-2 record 593 RA. He is allowed 32 hits in 27 in a third innings. Just one homer. He’s walked eight and struck out 25. The Mariners having used some pinch hitters earlier. Ferrer is going to get to face a couple of left-handed batters. First up, Miles Mastroy, who drew a walk and scored a run as a pinch hitter against Jorge Lopez lasting. So, Rodriguez the go-ahhead run at second. Cal Raleigh the trail runner at first. Outfield the other way and field shades him slightly to pull in a double play depth. Ferrer offers fast ball right in there at 97. Unfortunately for Henry, Dave was only nine strikes out of 18 pitches. That was pretty much the issue with this appearance. That’s not been how he’s been pitching of late. Runners go. The 01 is grounded right side. Garcia in. He feels it. His only plays it. His only play is to first and he’ll throw on to low to get the out. So the Mariners start the runners, stay out of the double play. Mastro does ground out for the second out of the [Music] inning. That’ll leave it up to Rowdy Tles. Tles seldom gets to bat against left-handed pitching. He is one for 11 this season against Southpaws. They really don’t have a choice. So runner second and third, two down, tie game. Here’s the pitch. Outside corner, fast outside corner fast ball at 98. Last couple of years, Tles has been a platoon player, so the chances to go left on left not very often. That’s why he’s only had one career bat against Ferrer and grounded out. Rodriguez trying to distract the pitcher off third. The 01 swinging a tapper first base side foul. It’s 0 and2. The Mariners have their closer. Arguably right now the best going. Andre Munoz warming up with his zero erra. Nationals hope he comes into a tie game and Ferrer can get this last strike. Here’s the set at the belt. The O2 to TZ swinging a foul back with Tana playing deep and off the line at third. Rodriguez is getting way down the line. I mean, anything in the dirt that gets away an inch, he might try to [Applause] score. Ferrer at the belt. Here’s the O2 coming home. Low with a change up to the outside. A rare left-on left change up. Nationals will have Bell Hassel and Tana in the top of the ninth. Here’s the set. The one two to from Ferrer swinging a soft line drive on one hop. Tana has it. Backhands. He sets and he fires to first in time and the inning over. So, the Mariners had two on with no outs and they do not score, leaving runners at second and third. Good work by Cole Henry and Jose Ferrer. On to the ninth. Still tied. Nationals 2, Mariners 2 on the Nationals Radio Network. At Lidos, we make things smarter and more efficient. One ball, one strike and gun down low on the Garcia hit. Nationals had three hits in a row but did not score. The set the 1-1 fast ball driven to left center field going back. Rodriguez on the go. He leaps and he makes the catch and crosses onto the warning track. Kind of lobs the ball back in. So Rodriguez, who was hit by the pitch in the top of the inning, a lot of pain, still able to run. Nothing wrong with his legs. He tracks down that potential extra base hit off the bat of Bell. He hit it a ton to deep left center. Good catch by Rodriguez. Bell continues to get some of the best swings in contact we have seen all year, Dave, in these last couple of days. He’s hit the ball really hard twice tonight. There’s Robert Hassel to third. Singled his last time up. First pitch over the uh just missed outside with a breaking ball. Two runs, eight hits an error for the Nationals. Two runs, six hits, no errors for Seattle. Kyle Finnegan beginning to warm in the Nets pen. The pitch slider grounded softly to the second baseman. It’s fielded and thrown on to first by Mastro and time for the out. So, two quick outs, which if you’re thinking along with Dan Wilson, if Munoz has a a singledigit pitch inning, he hasn’t worked all series. He’s in this game for the long haul. In fact, he hasn’t worked since last Friday. Here’s the pitch to Jose Tana. He swings at the first one and taps a foul to the back stop. [Applause] So they’ve got a rested closer. So do the Nationals. Yeah. Here’s the 01 from Munoz. Fast ball fouled back and out of play. 0 and2. The question is if Munoz gets this third out, does Finnegan come in to a tie or do they stick with Ferrer as the Mariners will have the bottom third of their order? It’s not usually Davy Martinez strategy to bring his closure into a tie game on the road. 02 the count the pitch on the way outside with a slider ball one and two strikes I would say it’s never his strategy 0 for two and a walk the kick and the pitch breaking ball low that’ll make it two and two rallied with two outs in the eighth with three straight hits. Can they get something going with two outs in the ninth? Here’s the pitch in the dirt. That one bounced off the chest protector of Cal Raleigh. And so Tana has worked count full after being down nothing and two. Munoz the set. The 3-2 fast ball foul up the first base side. It’ll be another 3-2 to Jos Tana. Here it comes. Swung on and missed at the breaking ball. And down go the Nationals in order against a closer with the erra of zero. Well, if the Nationals are going to win this one, it’ll have to be in extra innings as Muno strikes out Tana for his 300th career strikeout. Got two ground outs to strand a pair in the eighth. He’ll work the bottom of the ninth, face Jorge Palano, Leodyis, and Ben Williamson. Nationals do have the bullpen going, but same for the Mariners. Even though Munoz didn’t really break a sweat in the ninth, both teams have the pen going. Brad Lord throwing for the Nationals. Palano digs in. Switch hitter will bat right-handed. Ferrer’s first pitch. Bottom nine is over the outside corner. A fast ball. Palco, we mentioned throughout the broadcast, has had so few at bats right-handed due to the hip oblique issue. Here’s the 01. He tries to drop a bunt down. It’s a fair ball spinning into fair territory. Picked up by Ruiz. He throws to first. Palano stopped running and he’s out. I think he thought the ball was going to spin foul, but it spun to a stop right on the line and so he’s thrown out easily and gave up halfway down the line. That’s a Thank you very much. That tells you he’s still not feeling good swinging right-handed. He tried to bunt with a chance to, you know, hit a homer to win or an extra base hit. He’s trying to get on base. Here’s Leodyiver with one gone. The pitch change up top of the zone for a strike. Tiveres was 0 for seven in the first two games of the series. He’s three for three in this game. Drove in a run and scored the tying run in the seventh. For air deals swinging a foul into the screen. 0 and2. Pitcher in the Mariners bullpen is rightander Colin Snder. Warmed up earlier in the series but did not get in the game. That was last night, wasn’t it? They brought in Castano instead. Now Castano after three innings and 50 pitches last night was optioned to Tacoma today. Timeout for Tiveras. 02 the count. Two-2 score. Bottom nine. 02 on the way. Inside with a fast ball. Ferrer taking a long look in now. He nods his head. Yes. The lefty deals. Change up. Popped up right side. Garcia drifting back outfield grass. He waits and he makes the catch. And they’ve retired Leody for the very first time tonight. So here’s Fairfax’s own Ben Williamson from Freedom High School. Williamson has had himself a nice series. Five for 10 against the Nationals and RBI single to right against Jorge Lopez tied the game in the bottom of the seventh. He’s standing between Ferrer and extra innings. Here’s the pitch. Fast ball just off the inside corner much to the dismay of Kar Ruiz. Outfield toward right. Here’s the one. Fast ball low and inside. Two and0. Wind has died down some. Remember was blowing briskly in toward the third baseline earlier. Two from Ferrer. Williamson grounds one to short. Abrams has it moving to his left. Fires on to first. And the low throw handled by Low in time. And we will go to extra innings. Good work, Jose Ferrer. Five up, five down over an inning and two/3 of relief. Free baseball here on the West Coast. We mentioned that Andre Munoz with a ZRA of zero had not worked since Friday. He throws 12 pitches in the ninth inning and will not continue into extra innings. Maybe that Jose Tain a seven pitch at bat even though it ended in a strikeout prevents the Mariners from going a second inning with their closer. We have extra innings brought to you by Geico official partner of More Baseball in the Washington Nationals. The Nationals one and one in extra innings. They will have Jose Tana as the free runner and Dalen Lyle the number nine hitter coming to bat against the new pitcher right-hander Colin Snder. 22 Nationals and Mariners here in the series finale and with the playbyplay here’s Charlie Sloves. All right, thank you. Dave said that’s just their third extra game of the year at 1-1. The Mariners seventh, they’re three and three. 29-year-old Snyder originally drafted to the 12th round by Kansas City back in 2017 out of Vanderbilt. And the Mariners expect a bunt. We’ll see if Lyall squares Tana off second and a whirl around towards second. They bluff and L did not square so the bluff didn’t show them anything as the right-hander comes set. Here’s a pitch way inside. A wild pitch to the back stop. No bunt necessary now as Tina crosses to third on a wild wild ball one. And now the Mariners have to bring the infield all the way in, not just at the corners. That’s a gift. for Snider. His first wild pitch of the year, one and0 record, 3.52 RA in 21 appearances. Four holds, no saves or blown saves. Having worked 23 innings, allowed 22 hits, struck out 23, walked four. And the pitch swung on hit of the year to deep right field. Deep enough to score the run. Toaris way back to the wall and he makes the catch as he kisses up against the fence. Jose Tana tags, comes down the line from third to score on the first major league run batted in for rookie Dalon Lyle. Nearly took it out of the park, but he gives the Nationals the lead here in the top of the 10th inning. It’s now Washington three in Seattle too. Nicely done and two pitches, a wild pitch and a sack fly. Nearly more than that. Kyle Finning and getting ready in earnest now. And we’ll see if the Nationals can restart a rally and maybe make it more than just one. CJ Abrams the batter with no one on and one out. Breaking ball drilled in the air to deep right center. Diverus back again on the warning track in the wall. He leaps and it’s off his glove and off the wall. Abrams to second coasting in with a double. I don’t know if Abrams thought he caught it cuz he wasn’t going hard from first to second as the ball carried back in toward the infield. I thought he might have a chance to get all the way to third. Toaris leaped and it was over his glove and off the wall and caring back toward the infield. And Nathaniel Low is already walking to the plate cuz he thinks James Wood’s going to be intentionally walked and he is. I mean, Tiver has caught everything in this series. He nearly robbed Abrams there. I don’t know how it missed his glove. He seemed to have it tracked. Yeah, Abrams did slow down. Either he thought it was a home run or caught. He didn’t see the ball deflect off the wall. So, James Wood, who had the only prior intentional walk of the year for the Nationals, gets his second and the team second. Respect shown for him in this game. There might be more coming. Just just going out on a limb there. So, that puts runners on first and second for Low, who’s one out of four. Looped to single to right center last time up the pitch way inside. Ball one from Snider. Now Raleigh had to reach in and backhand that ball. Low trying to fight his way out of his skid and deliver a big hit. Snider kicks, delivers, and the pitch sinks low. It’s 2 and 0. Too low right now. Snider’s struggling to find it. He’s either yanking the ball down in or giving up rockets to the to the right field fence. Rightander sets kicks delivers. Swinging a line drive a base hit into left field. Abrams speeding for third being waved home. Here comes a Rosarus throw to the plate. It’s offline. Abrams scores and the Nationals have a two-run lead in the 10th inning. Wood stopping at second. Nathaniel Low on it first with a single to left and his 35th run batted in the year as the Nationals hopping up and down in their third base side dugout. The Nationals with two runs home of the 10th now lead four-2. And we saw that uh obviously Ricky Gutierrez has been aggressive all series. Leota Tiveres threw out one in the eighth, but a Rosarena does not have the same arm. And the Nationals have run wild on a Rosarena the last two games. There was no way he was going to hold CJ who turned third base terrifically well. Sharp angle turning that corner coming around third. Here is Kar Ruiz. A single to right last time up one for four. And now time called for Ruiz. He stands back in Snider. Not the flamethrower that we’ve seen from Munoz and Vargas earlier. Low90s fast ball. Slider cutter. Swinging a chopper back to the bounce. Snder has it. Throws to second and throws it wild, but it’s caught. Caught by the second baseman, Mastroy backing up on a throw that was wild and should have gone into center field. The bases are loaded now with one out. That throw was nowhere near second, but the second baseman doing his job caught the wild throw. That’s going to be a double play if it’s a good throw. Then when the throw is released, you’re thinking, “Oh man, the Nationals are going to be running around the bases.” But Mastery, maybe that’s a play that saves the night for the Mariners if they can somehow get out of this. But right now, Pete Woodworth has got to play amateur psychologist here because the world is crumbling in on Colin Snyder. He has just really really struggled from the very first pitch which he yanked to the back stop that is being scored a fielder’s choice. An error on the pitcher and so the bases are loaded with nationals with Woodworth hoping that he has some words of wisdom here for Colin Snyder. The batter is going to be Luis Garcia Jr. who’s had a good night. He’s three for four three singles. drove in a run or should have driven in it run in the eighth inning, but it looked like it was going to be a run with a base hit to right, but Leodyaris threw out Nathaniel Low at the plate to end the inning. We’ll see if he can drive in a run or two now. Snder delivers. Garcia looks it over. Off speed pitch outside. Ball one. Single to left center in the second. Single to center in the fifth. Only time they got him out, he had a rocket at the shortstop. The pitch swung on, fouled back into the screen. One ball, one strike. That was a gift on a comeback into the mound. They they had to at least get one out. And Ruiz course is not fast. He’s a guy that susceptible to the double play. Now the six. Snider kicks, delivers, swing, and a squiver foul to the left of the plate. That is strike two. One ball, two strikes. Yeah, when that ball’s hit, you figure the inning’s over. A chopper back to the pitcher and fielded it cleanly. [Applause] If Master Bone isn’t breaking behind a bag, you’re going to get two more runs on that play. You’d have a 6-2 lead. But Garcia with a single can get you there anyway. Wood at third. Low at second. Ruiz at first. Here’s the pitch. And it is a breaking ball. just missed kneeh high to the outside. I think Luis is doing some umpiring. I think it was him saying no, no, no. It’s close. No, no, no. Two balls, two strikes. The set, the kick. Here it comes. Breaking ball hit in the air to deep right field. Beck goes to Baris to the warning track. He’s at the wall. He leaps. He can’t get it off the wall in play. Wood scores. Rounding third, coming home is low and the throw comes in. Two-run score, stopping at third on the play. Garcia booming drive to right center field. The Nationals get two more. With that, it’s now the Nationals six and the Mariners two. That’s a big hit, but in a way, the Nationals just got very lucky. Garcia didn’t run. He thought he had a grand slam. You had Low waiting to tag at second. So, if the Mariners didn’t overshoot the cut off, man, they had a potential play at the plate on the second runner. It ends up being a double runner second and third despite what was nearly a base running snafu. It is unbelievable cuz what a but a big hit. A huge hit. Ruiz could only go second to third. Here’s the pitch that Josh Bell swung on and fouled off to the left and out of play. Well, yeah, he he ran up on the heels of Low, so he was waiting shy of second. Low was back to tag at second, so he had to go from second to home. Garcia meanwhile was at home plate admiring it and then the ball hit off the wall. Now the pitch, fast ball inside, one ball in one strike. But a huge night for Louisie. I mean he has been right on it all night. He deserved that, didn’t he? Yeah, he deserved the grand slam. But you still got to run. Snider sets. And now the pitch swing and a miss by Bell and a breaking ball running in on the hands. four-run lead, but Finnegan hot in the pen and hasn’t pitched in a while. So, right now, it’s no longer a safe situation with a four-run lead. Infield in the pitch inside the bell and the count two and one. You’re thinking when that ball isn’t caught off the wall that you’re going to clear the bases. Here’s the set. Now the pitch swing the grounder pull foul outside of first two and two. Well, they didn’t have the right combo on base. And again, Low was back at second as if to tag if the ball’s caught to go second to third. And so Ruiz had to kind of pitter patter and almost run up his back, but yet hold shy of him. Now the pitch swinging a long drive to right by Bell. No one’s catching this one. Going, going, gone, goodbye. That’ll bring everybody home. Bang, zoom goes Josh Bell with his second home run in as many nights. Another multi-hit game. It’s his eighth home run of the year. It’s a threerun shot, giving him 19 runs batted in for the year. And the Nationals have put seven runs on the board here in the top of the 10th inning. It’s now the Nationals nine. And the Mariners, too. That’s going to be it for Colin Snyder. What a blast off the bat of Josh Bell, who has found his stroke. 109 miles an hour, driving that one halfway up the lower section in right field. And anyone who hadn’t left is leaving now. A flurry to the It’s a race to the exits. As if a plague of locust has been let loose here in Seattle. I think these people have said that thanks for playing. They’re heading home. A pitching change here in the 10th inning for the Mariners. Seven runs in for the Nationals. It’s Washington 9, Seattle 2. Back after the pitching change break on the Nationals Baseball Network. Well, the Nationals have broken this one open here in the 10th inning. Seven runs home. The Mariners going to the bullpen for Edward Bazardo and Robert Hassel the third stands in as the ninth man or the eighth man to bat in the inning. Started with a free runner at second. Pitch on the way. Swung on and lying hard down the right field line. A foul ball into the seats and out of play. Hassel one out of four. Single to right back in the seventh. Hit in hard luck in the fifth when he had a shot up the middle with a runner going. shortstop field of the ball at the bag to turn a double play. Swing and a miss and a fast ball strike to Bizardo pitched the ninth inning in game one of the series. The Mariners 9-1 win a one two three inning on 10 pitches. The right-hander making his 22nd appearance 1 and0 record 421 RA the pitch breaking ball get it past the mound toward the middle of the diamond charging in Revas to throw on the move in time to get Hassel for the out and that is the second out of the inning. Nine seems to be the magic number in this series to win a game. Right. Got to have nine or you can’t win. Here’s Jose Tana who was the free runner scored to the sack fly by Dalon Lyle that gave the Nationals a three-2 lead. And now the pitch swung on and fouled back. Strike one. It’s not often the free runner bats in the inning. He’s the free runner. No, here’s the pitch. And it’s high. One ball, one strike. I mean, they’re now using his box on the scorecard that normally would been the hit, but you had to use it for him as a runner. Now, the pitch, breaking ball, hit in the air to shallow left center, a Rosarena to his left there, and he makes the catch. And the inning finally comes to a close. Seven runs home for the Nationals on a total of just four base hits. They had an intentional walk. There was a big error and nobody left the board. We go to the bottom of the tenth in Seattle. Bottom of the 10th inning now here in Seattle after the Nationals saw their sixth inning two nothing lead slip away with the Mariners tying it in the seventh. They go to extra innings. The Nash scored seven runs in the top of the 10th inning and lead it 9 to2. Kyle Finnegan comes in definitely in a non-save situation to make his 20th appearance. 0 and1 record 2.41 ERA 15 saves and 18 tries second in the National League. tied for third of the major leagues in saves. Finnegan has worked 18 and two/3 innings, given up 18 hits, five earned runs, struck out 17, walk seven, no homers, no hit batters, 257 average against him. Mariners have the top of the order. And so Leo Rivas, who came into play in the seventh inning, gets his second atbat of the ninth. Finnegan delivers and a fast ball poured right in there. A called strike one. An unusual circumstance for closer working with a sevenrun lead and of course had some upper arm soreness. And now the pitch in there a called strike with a fast ball. 0 and two and so it’s been a week so he could use the work. You just hope for a a fairly quick pitch count inning. Last pitched against the Braves last Thursday. Nationals won a extra inning game that night. A walk-off win of the 10th over the Braves on the Ahmed Rosario pinch hit single. Now the kick of the pitch too high with a fast ball. One ball, two strikes. Then with a save situation for Jake Irvin on Saturday. That was Jorge Lopez closing the game out for his first save of the year. Benigan did not need to pitch on Sunday and wasn’t needed until looked like a save chance tonight. Fast ball high and away. Two balls, two strikes. But warming when the Nets were batting in the top of the 10th inning in a tie game. He got hot. So did the Nats bat scoring seven. And welcome back Josh Bell. Welcome back his bat. Swinging a ground ball right side. That’s through into right field. A base hit. A free runner rounding third and coming home. That is Williamson. It’s now the Nationals nine of the Mariners three. So a base hit for Rivas to drive in a run and he’s aboard with nobody out. That goes as an honored run. It’s the record of Finnegan and now Julio Rodriguez who was hit by a pitch on the right hand in the eighth inning stayed in. Otherwise 0 for three and apparently okay to swing the bat. We shall see. Finnegan delivers. Fast ball in there. Called strike one. Downfield shaded around toward right as usual on Rodriguez. Three for 11 in the series with a homer. Bigan sets kicks and delivers. Swing a ground ball toward short. Abrams have it. Shovels to Garcia on the first in plenty of time. A double play. 643. Two men away. With nobody on, Cal Raleigh comes up and the last hope, last out situation for the Mariners. Minnegan inducing his first double play of the year. Raleigh one for two tonight with a first inning single and a stolen base. Struck out. Hit by a pitch in the sixth. Walked in the eighth. Finnegan ready round to right against Raleigh. And the pitch low and inside ball one. Switch hitter batting left-handed fitting into the belt. Third base side of the rubber. He kicks. He fires. Fast ball outside. One ball, pardon me, two balls, no strikes. Unusual circumstance for Finnegan not to pitch in a week, but he need a few days with some tenderness. Two delivery low and outside ball three. 3 and 0. This is the first time he’s not pitched in a save situation since the opening day. Came into a tie game in the ninth, but again, he was warming. It was going to be a save situation. Going to get ready. Here’s the 3 0 and he missed outside. Ball four. So if you’re a little rusty with a week off, I guess pitching with a big lead is not the the worst thing, but it’s certainly not the same intensity. You don’t want to find that intensity in a team with a big lead. So now Randy Rosarena bats spin again once before in flight out. [Applause] Rightander ready and the pitch. Fast ball high. You also don’t want it to be too heavy a pitch count inning that affects games over the next few days. Two out here in the bottom of the tenth. Finnegan ready. Kicks and he delivers the pitch in for a strike. Fast ball keeps the count at one and one at 97 m an hour. He’s got the vlo and he comes set again to the belt and the pitch in at the knees called strike with a fast ball to the outer half and the count is one ball two strikes. Finnegan can end it right here. The kick and the pitch. Breaking balls low and away. Over the years, the Nats have won series here in this park. 2023, 2014, a sweep back in 2008. And again, sets two balls, two strikes. the pitch. Fast ball fouled back. Deflects off the guide wire holding up the screen. Deflects just to our left. Thought we might get that one this way on the deflection. Two and two. That’s a won 19 and lost only eight when playing the Mariners. Nine and four in Seattle. Now the pitch. Fast ball outside. Count full. Three and two. They haven’t played a lot over the years with Inner League play when you used to play him every three years. You could say the Nats have dominated the series. On three and two, two out, runner goes the pitch, swinging a foul off his foot in the box, stinging a Rosarena. And Raleigh on the run will have to come back and Finnegan will throw another. He’s up to 18 pitches now. goes to the rosin bag as Rosarin has been given a moment here by home plate umpire Andy [Applause] Fletcher Finnegan toes Finnegan coming set again Raleigh will run on three and two out the kick and the pitch swing and a foul over the screen out of play off the fast ball so Rosena battling to keep his team’s hopes [Applause] alive. I think they’re chanting his name. Randy, Randy sense the kick. Here it comes. Swing and a foul ball off the chest protector of the home plate umpire Andy Fletcher again. I’d like to see him end this thing now. you get much more over 20 pitches and you’re affecting availability over the next couple of [Applause] days. Three balls and two strikes. And again, sets to be pitch number 21. And here it comes. Breaking ball in there. Strike three calls to the splitter. The highsplitter drops in, locks up a Rosetta and a curly W in the books in Seattle as the Nationals come to T-Mobile Park and win a series for the second visit in a row combined with 2023. A seven run top of the 10th inning for the Nationals to break it open. And they put it away with Josh Bell’s three-run homer in the 10th to cap it. And another big night for Bell in this series. Nationals on the field to celebrate a victory as they beat the Mariners and take the Inner League series two games to one. Curly W and the Bucks. The final score, the Nationals nine, the Mariners three. Well, it’ll be a happy flight to Phoenix and a short night of sleep with a series opening tomorrow, but the Nationals showed some spunk here that the momentum in this game changed when the Mariners tie into the seventh. They threatened in the eighth after the Nationals had the tying run thrown at the plate, but Jose Ferrer really rided the ship. got out of the big jam in the eighth inning. Had a one, two, three ninth and the Nationals just turned it loose on Colin Snyder and nearly hit three home runs, but a ton of very good at bats in that inning, starting with Dalen Lyles go ahead sack fly and from there the Nationals just poured it on adding six more runs and winning in what turned out to be a route. So all three games were routes even though this was an extra inning route. Unbelievable. The Nets will take it and again have a happy flight to Phoenix, Arizona. the 10th for the uh Mariners. The Nationals had it, then lost it, but then blew it open in the 10th inning as they defeat the Mariners by a final of 9 to3 to win the series two games to one. Welcome to the Verizon Nationals postgame show. We begin with a highlight recap. It was Emerson Hancock facing McKenzie Gore. And these starting pitchers were terrific. Hancock over five scoreless innings through just 50 pitches and allowed two hits. Gore meanwhile over his five innings of work, 67 pitches. He allowed two hits and had five strikeouts. Hancock then walked two batters in the top of the sixth inning. And the Mariners went to the bullpen. They wanted a left-on left matchup with Gabe Spy facing James Wood. And guess what? James Wood would win that matchup. Spires worked 20 innings, allowed 14 hits, two of them homers, struck out 28 and walked only four. A 192 average against and a swing at a line drive down the left field line that’s going to drop in fair into the corner. Rounding third, coming home to score is Tana Abrams speeding around third. Will score without a play as the throw comes into the shortstop. Crawford in shallow left field. James Wood foils the Mariners strategy. Bring in the lefty Spire as he takes the first pitch down the left field line. Sliced the other way. RBI’s 41 and 42. And the Nationals are on the board first here in this one in the top of the sixth inning with one out. It’s the Nationals two and the Mariners nothing. McKenzie Gourd make that lead stand up. He worked out of a heck of a jam. First and third, no out in the bottom of the sixth inning. He struck out JP Crawford who argued strike three called and was ejected. Then he struck out Julio Rodriguez, hit Cal Raleigh to load the bases, but on his 95th and final pitch of the night, struck out Randy Rosarena. So Gore six scoreless frames, four hits, no walks, eight strikeouts. Unfortunately, Gore would not get the win because Jorge Lopez allowed two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, a leadoff walk, and a pair of RBI singles for Leota Tiveres and Ben Williamson. And the game tied at two. Nationals potentially to take the lead in the top of the eighth inning with two outs. Nathaniel Low was thrown at the plate on Luis Garcia Jr.’s potential go-ahead hit. And then Cole Henry hit a batter and allowed a walk before getting a popup. And so the Mariners had two on with one out. Jose A Ferrer though came in and slammed the door with a couple of ground outs. And then Ferrer worked a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning as well, sending the game to extra innings. And that was when the Nationals would break it open against Colin Snyder. The free runner was Jose Tana at second. And on Snider’s first pitch, he unccorked a wild pitch and things would only get worse from there. Dalon Lyle would deliver a big league first to put the Nats in front. Having worked 23 innings, allowed 22 hits, struck out 23, walked four and the pitch swung on. Hit of the year to deep right field. Deep enough to score the run. Tarver way back to the wall and he makes the catch as he kisses up against the fence. Jose Tana tags, comes down the line from third to score on the first major league run batted in for rookie Dalon Lyle. Nearly took it out of the park, but he gives the Nationals the lead here in the top of the 10th inning. It’s now Washington three and Seattle too. They weren’t done from there with the first out of the inning. CJ Abrams doubled just out of the reach of Leodyver. James Wood was intentionally walked which brought Nathaniel Low to the plate. Rightander sets, kicks, delivers, swinging a line drive, a base hit into left field. Abrams speeding for third, being waved home. Here comes a Rosarus throw to the plate. It’s offline. Abrams scores and the Nationals have a two-run lead in the 10th inning. Wood stopping at second. Nathaniel Low on it first with a single to left in his 35th run batted in the year as the Nationals hopping up and down in their third base side dugout. The Nationals with two runs home in the 10th now lead four-2. And they weren’t done. Kar Ruiz hit a potential inning ending double play ball, but the pitcher Snder threw it away and that loaded the bases. And Luis Garcia Jr. would cap his big night like this. Two balls, two strikes, the set, the kick. Here it comes. Breaking ball hit in the air to deep right
