【密着】Preparation|冨澤大智 / Daichi Tomizawa

He is DAICHI TOMIZAWA from the RIZIN flyweight division. I don’t know how many film crew there are. thank you. I bought a coffee thinking there would be about three film crew members there. Today, I will be following you closely for a whole day. Thank you very much. I think my in-depth coverage would be boring because it would only involve martial arts training. I realized you are a kinder person than I had imagined. Is that true? When I first saw you earlier, I noticed that your right ear was crushed. It hurts a lot. I don’t like the shape of my ears changing. But, if it means becoming stronger, it can’t be helped. Are you originally a firefighter? Yes, I was a firefighter from the age of 18 to 20. When did you start martial arts? I started martial arts when I was 21 years old. I moved to Tokyo to do martial arts. Why did you decide to appear in BREAKING DOWN? I wanted to be successful as a fighter while I was competing in the K-1 group. At the time, I thought I wouldn’t be successful as a fighter here. After I left the K-1 group, I traveled overseas for two months. At that time, I went to about eight countries. I struggled a lot about whether to continue with martial arts or quit. That’s when I decided I wanted to do martial arts. If I was going to do martial arts, I wanted to do it at RIZIN RIZIN it’s the best in Japan. I thought about what I could do to achieve this. There has not yet been a single fighter from BREAKING DOWN who has competed in RIZIN. I entered BREAKING DOWN with the belief that I would definitely be able to make it to RIZIN from here. Wouldn’t you like to be lumped together with the guys from BREAKING DOWN? Yes, I don’t want to be lumped together with those who are just doing it for fun. I was definitely the first person to come from BREAKING DOWN to RIZIN. It would be great if those who follow after that are people who want to do martial arts or make a living as professional fighters. I don’t want people to think that those who are just doing martial arts as a way to kill time and gained attention through BREAKING DOWN can compete in RIZIN. I don’t want them to have a say. I only practice professional MMA rules. I hope people who haven’t practiced that don’t say that. To the viewers, they and I are the same. So I have to shut everyone up with results. So I think this is a very important match. Did you hesitate when you were offered the fight against ERSON YAMAMOTO? When I first heard about the opportunity, I honestly didn’t want to do it. I think MMA is a job you shouldn’t run away from. So I’m taking every offer that comes my way. I think ERSON YAMAMOTO is a player who people think will not be able to win. If I beat ERSON YAMAMOTO, I will finally be recognized as a true fighter. As long as I’m doing MMA, I want people to support me. I want to do martial arts while being supported. I believe this is a necessary challenge for me to achieve that. It’s great that you’re fighting at the Tokyo Dome for your third fight. I’m happy to be able to fight at the TOKYO DOME. I used to play baseball. At that time, I wanted to become a professional baseball player. Even after I became a high school student, I always wanted to play a baseball game at the Tokyo Dome. When I started martial arts, I was watching TOKYO DOME from KORAKUEN. Ever since I started martial arts, I have always wanted to stand at the TOKYO DOME as a fighter. I’ve been practicing MMA for seven years now and am finally able to stand at the TOKYO DOME. Are you married? Yes, I’m making my wife put up with my selfishness. A long time ago, my wife and I lived near each other’s parents, and it was my first love when I was in elementary school. I thought she was cute at the time and fell in love with her. Has your first love come true? Yes, my first love has come true. How old were you when you got married? I got married at 24 years old. My child is very cute. My children are the source of my motivation. What kind of boy were you as a child? I was a baseball player, so I went to high school on a scholarship. During the winter of my first year of high school, I injured my shoulder and was no longer able to throw a baseball. Were you a pitcher? Yes, I was a good pitcher. When I was in junior high school, I was throwing the ball at about 130km/h. I got injured and decided to switch to pitching right-handed. I can’t throw because I had surgery on both shoulders. How did you feel about taking up MMA? MMA is difficult. But MMA is a lot of fun. I train at FIGHTER’S FLOW and UEDA is amazing. Thanks to him, the players don’t get tired of practicing. Why did you choose FIGHTER’S FLOW? At first I was thinking of going to JTT because I love both Mikuru Asakura and KAI ASAKURA. I was planning on going to JTT because I wanted them to teach me MMA. When I consulted with HIROYA, he told me that JTT is at a high level. To be honest, there isn’t much that DAICHI can absorb from that yet. HIROYA said that if you want to start MMA from scratch, the best place to do it is with UEDA at FIGHTER’S FLOW. I started to feel like it was a good idea after going to FIGHTER’S FLOW and learning how to practice from UEDA. Since then, I have been training at FIGHTER’S FLOW. HIROYA is also a flyweight, right? Yes, I love HIROYA and I support him. I think HIROYA will be able to win the championship belt. I would like to challenge for the championship belt that HIROYA holds. RIZIN flyweight TOKI TAMARU. Must be a sports drink? Why did you choose lemon squash? Because all the drinks in the vending machines were still being prepared. Now it’s after practice. This is 0 calories, by the way. Having kids means getting up early. Does your child wake up early? Yes, my child wakes up early. My kids wake up around 6:30am and start running around. How much of an age difference is there between you? Am I older than you? How old is DAICHI? I am 28 years old. DAICHI is five years older than me. In the world of martial arts, strong people are respected regardless of age. When my hitting power becomes stronger than TOKI’s, I’ll have you carry my luggage. I still can’t beat TOKI in punches, so I use honorific language. When I become stronger than TOKI, I’ll have you carry my luggage. Maybe that will be in about 20 years? This is all I do every day, so it’s pretty boring. Do you have time off? I only have Sundays off. UEDA has told me to train even on Sundays off, so I have to sleep 12 hours a day. On my days off, I stay in bed and wear my treatment device, trying to sleep all day even if I don’t feel sleepy. Can I stop by a convenience store? I bought you some water and rice balls. thank you. you’re welcome. I didn’t know what you guys liked so I bought beef sukiyaki rice balls. I think all men would love this. Do you always eat lunch in the car? Yes, I eat in my car or relax with a coffee at Starbucks. You were so kind as you even bought some for us. I’m aiming for likeability. Can I ask you something difficult to ask? Do you have any connection with TAKERU? I don’t meet TAKERU now, but I contact him every time he leaves K-1 or when he has a New Year’s Eve fight. I would be too brazen to meet TAKERU in person. I contacted TAKERU after watching his professional debut match. TAKERU is a very nice person. I really like TAKERU. TAKERU will reply to my messages. You probably don’t talk about TAKERU much in front of the media, do you? I like TAKERU and consider him my benefactor. I believe that I am who I am today thanks to TAKERU. I don’t want to do anything like using TAKERU’s name. I am grateful to TAKERU from the bottom of my heart. If the road is narrow, please park your car on a wider road. Does he usually drive? Yes, I ask him to drive me to and from practice. I want to avoid using up too much energy before and after practice and put everything into practice. The 30 minutes after practice when I can’t catch the train is tough. You can also use this time to review your practice. You can’t do that if you’re driving. It’s scary that if I get into a car accident it immediately makes the news. Considering those risks, I think it’s better not to drive yourself. Have you met DAICHI’s family? Yes, I’m good friends with his family. What kind of person is Tomizawa in your opinion? I think he is a straightforward person. He praises and thanks me every day. He compliments every little detail on me. When my hair is nice, he compliments me on how good it looks. thank you. You can park your car at the edge of here. I enjoy picking him up every morning. Because he compliments me. You will now be undergoing a head spa treatment sponsored by RIZIN. Do you usually go to a head spa? No, I don’t usually go to a head spa. But I’m interested in head spa. Have you ever been to a head spa? no. Some people find the head spa so relaxing that it puts them to sleep. I want to take my wife to a head spa. You are kind. I feel sorry for my wife. Just having this done to me makes me feel good. I’ll be doing this for 20 minutes. I’m going to sleep. Does he have eye strain? Yes, his eyestrain is severe. good morning. I want to do this for another 2 hours or so. The head spa is over. The head spa felt really good. I wanted to do a little more head spa. Is it just me or am I losing my sight? I’m sure that’s true. My eyes are no longer tired. I will be there to support you on May 4th. Please support me. He is TAKAO UEDA, representative of FIGHTER’S FLOW. what? Sorry there’s nothing to drink. Now I understand why TOKI bought lemon squash. He is GENJI UMENO from the RIZIN bantamweight division. I am frustrated. I am not burning completely. My body wasn’t listening to me. It happens to absolutely everyone. Everyone has good and bad times during practice. I was in a terrible mood today. I feel pathetic. I am left with regrets. I actually wanted to join the final practice, but I was told it would be better for me to skip it today. If I don’t make it into the final practice, I feel like I’ve lost and it’s frustrating. Was it tough being a firefighter 10 years ago? Yes, it was very tough. Workplace harassment was commonplace at the time. The first thing my senior taught me was that I should always end a conversation with “I’m sorry” when I start or finish speaking. I felt uncomfortable ending a conversation with “I’m sorry.” I feel bad when I end a conversation by saying “I’m sorry,” so when I tried saying “Thank you,” my senior got angry at me. Saying “thank you” definitely makes both parties feel better, so I think that’s definitely the better option. After you left your job as a firefighter, did you practice MMA while working part-time? Yes. What kind of part-time job did you have? I’ve worked for IZAKAYA, delivered pizza, and worked on construction sites. I also worked as a driver on a contract basis. I used to be YUTA KUBO’s driver. I want to do martial arts, so I thought it would be better for me to work near someone who does martial arts. I worked as a driver while also having time for martial arts. I have to focus completely on martial arts. Because I started martial arts after I was in my 20s. No matter how much time I have, it’s never enough. Party room for hire. He also gives my daughter a bath and changes her diapers. He is also very careful with his skin care. He seems like the ideal husband. He’ll come home just fine. This may be a given. I think there are many people who cannot do this simple thing. He’ll come home just fine. A friend came. This is my last excitement before the match. Are these two childhood friends? We’ve been together since kindergarten. I have no idea how I met DAICHI. Did you meet after you both became firefighters? I wonder if DAICHI and I hung out together before that? Maybe we were drawn to it. He suddenly became spiritual. What did you think when he appeared on BREAKING DOWN? You came back overseas and then immediately appeared in BREAKING DOWN, right? yes. I still had the image of DAICHI going overseas. DAICHI said he was going abroad to find himself. I found out I was pregnant about a month before he went overseas. I asked him if he still wanted to go abroad. He said he was going to go find himself. So I told him to go find me abroad. MIO, who sent DAICHI off, is amazing. Did you find anything abroad? No, I didn’t find anything. What do you think of it? Were you already married at that time? Yes, we were already married. He called me from Europe even though I was suffering from severe morning sickness. He’s always been the type of person who gets even more motivated when he’s criticized. I was told off by everyone, so I accepted the fight against ERSON YAMAMOTO. His next opponent will be ERSON YAMAMOTO. What did you think when you heard that? I thought he and ERSON YAMAMOTO were a bad match. Everyone tells me this. That’s why I accepted the fight with ERSON YAMAMOTO. What do you think is DAICHI’s winning percentage? The winning odds are 7:3. With my feelings in mind, I think DAICHI will win. I think DAICHI will win with odds of 6:4. I believe DAICHI has become stronger, up to 5:5. What do you think your husband’s chances of winning are? I think if he puts his heart into it, he will win 100%. However, DAICHI now basically only has positive things to say about 2025. I’m basically a positive person, right? In 2024, DAICHI was very depressed after his loss to SHINOZUKA. That was the first time I didn’t contact DAICHI myself. I couldn’t contact DAICHI at that time either. In 2024, I was as depressed as I was at the time of my arrest. I remember that incident fondly. I don’t want to remember that incident. How did you get arrested? I was arrested even though I had done nothing wrong. I continued to deny that I had done anything wrong, and the case was dismissed without any settlement or the use of a lawyer. I have an arrest on my record. I can never shake it off. Do you have a criminal record? No, it was investigated but it is not a crime. I’ve been told not to underestimate myself. Since then I have stopped saying it. It’s impossible to prove that you haven’t done anything wrong. Under Japanese law, it would have been impossible to prove a false accusation. I have to carry that cross for the rest of my life. How did that happen? I was drinking and when I wasn’t looking, a few people around me started leaving. One of them hit his shoulder and got into a fight with the other group. I didn’t see it first so I don’t know, but I heard at the time that it was released first. Anyway, I helped. I couldn’t use violence because I’m a firefighter. Soon other people arrived and fights broke out in several places. I never put up a fight, I just stepped in to stop it. Apparently, when I wasn’t looking, there was a money exchange, as if to say, “This will be forgiven.” I haven’t seen it so I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes. The people involved in the dispute quickly called the police. The people who were there, including me, were arrested later. The security camera caught the incident on film. There is also video recording of me not taking any money from the other person and not laying hands on him. I believe it was you who gave the instructions to do this. I thought that was a false allegation. People who don’t see the scene only see the result of the arrest. Even though he looks like a fellow firefighter, DAICHI is thought to be the one who was arrested. Although the seniors don’t say it out loud, they give off the impression that you shouldn’t get involved with DAICHI. DAICHI sensed it too. The thing I regret most in life is not being able to help DAICHI. So that’s why I quit being a firefighter. Were you dating Daichi at that time? yes. At that time, I was at work and suddenly I couldn’t contact him. I was worried about him. I thought it was strange when he still hadn’t replied by evening. I was surprised when a friend sent me an article on Yahoo News reporting his arrest. I went to his parents’ house and heard about his arrest. His parents still don’t know the situation, so they told us to trust DAICHI and wait. Eventually I found out he had been arrested. From then on I continued to send him letters. He was detained for about three weeks. I continued to send him letters and pictures telling him I believed him. Those 23 days were probably the hardest of my life. I think he was the hardest. I just had to wait for him. He has been writing in a diary since he was detained. It’s easier for him to accept it. He wrote in his diary that he wasn’t fighting but that it might be easier to just admit it. His mother and I wrote him letters every day telling him not to accept it. I was scolded for 12 hours straight. In such a state, your mind will break. I sincerely thought that if it meant admitting to the fight and getting out of here, it might be okay. I think this rule means the country doesn’t have to admit mistakes. Since he was a firefighter at the time, the article referred to him as “Suspect Daichi Tomizawa,” a firefighter. The media was selling it. The media gave it extensive coverage and published articles making him seem like the mastermind. When I searched his name, it came up as arrest for robbery and assault. I want to make martial arts famous and clear its name. When I searched my name, I found evidence of the hard work I’ve put in, rather than my arrest record. I told him I would go to Tokyo because I would keep trying until I found something like that. So he quit his job as a firefighter and took up martial arts. That’s definitely why I started martial arts in the first place. My mother was the one who got me started in MMA. My parents’ house had bedrooms on the second floor and I went down to the first floor. At 2am, my mother was on the computer and requested the article about my arrest to be deleted. My mother would leave the house at 6am and come home around 8pm. There’s no way a post that we don’t know who wrote it will disappear. I thought if my mother continued doing this her body would break down. I wanted to make a name for myself so that I wouldn’t care about getting arrested. I moved to Tokyo to become famous in martial arts. I moved to Tokyo and lived with two other people in a four-tatami room. When two people lived in a 4-tatami mat room, each person only had 2 tatami mats. do not disturb. Look at me. Dad, please give me a peace sign. Please make a peace sign. Please make a peace sign. DAICHI, please make sure you don’t regret your dream of visiting TOKYO DOME. I would like to see him win by knockout rather than a decision. I hope he finishes the match without too many injuries. I’m rooting for him! I am prepared to die in order to defeat my opponent. There’s about two weeks left until the match. Since it’s the Tokyo Dome, I think I’ll be bawling my eyes out from his entrance scene. I want to make it a match that gets everyone excited. I will play matches that everyone will find interesting. I will definitely win the fight by knockout. 280 days since the defeat. The sleeping wolf finally awakens. RIZIN OTOKOMATSURI. Will this be their first win in two years?
