Taj Bradley for the Rays and we are all set to play ball. Florida native Jonathan India steps into the righty batters box to begin tonight’s ball game. Oh, a lighter in left and that’s not going to stay up. Morell on the short hop. Scoops that one. It’s a base hit for India. Well, I’ll tell you what, what a play by Morell and he’s able to dive and short hop. This ball gets by him. This is probably going to be a triple, but he’s able to glove it. Then Bobby Whit Jr. who’s been doing a lot of hitting picking up this year where he left off last year. That’s a chopper left side into the glove of Camero. They’re going to get wet. Junior and up to second goes India Pasquantino the DH. That’s a fair ball back to first and Aronda’s there and Bradley comes over to cover. Two outs with India moving over to third base. line to right center field. That’s going to split the gap and the Royals are on the board. And there’s Salvi on his way to second base with another double. He had eight hits on the home stand. Five of those hits were double. He also drove in four during the home stand. And it’s one- nothing Kansas City. One- nothing Royals on a Salvador Perez double. And that is Chandler Simpson will be leading off for Tampa Bay. He’s a rookie, a former second round pick. out of Georgia Tech and he has started his big league career with an eightgame hitting streak going up against Michael Lorenzan on the ground to second. Massiey’s going to have to hurry and it’s in time to get Simpson one away. One out, nobody on for Yandi Diaz. And the pitch grounded by Perez and to right for a base hit and the Rays have their first hit of the game. And now Brandon Laauo and to center field that knuckled a little bit but carries out as well. Junior Caminero with a tying run at first. Yandi Diaz and the pitch sliced to right giving chases Drew Waters. It gets fire and goes to the wall. Diaz to third base. He will be held by Brady Williams as commonro into second with a double and the Rays had runners to second and third. Two men in scoring position. Two outs. Breaking ball is pulled on the ground to Salvi. Lorenzan goes to the bag and that’s the inning. So the Rays strand two in scoring position and thanks to Salvi’s double. The Royals lead one- nothing. And that’s ball four. And that is Drew Waters first walk since he got hot last Sunday in Detroit. So he’s on it first with one out for Freddy Fine. Royals one raise nothing. We’re in the top of the second. Breaking ball bounced softly through the vacated right side and into right field. Waters turns it second. Hesitated. Meisner double clutch. Throw to third. Cut off and Waters is into third safely. The aggression pays off. Runners on first and third with one out for Kyle Isel. In the air to left field. Waters tags. Morell gets behind it. He’s going to go all the way to the plate and it’s going to be offline and the Royals lead two nothing. So the aggressive base running pays off in the ultimate way. Royals two Rays nothing now to the bottom of the second inning and George M. Stein Brenerfield. Called third strike on a change up. Two down. Two quick outs for Lorenzan. Bast knee high down the middle. Called. Strike three. And Cavayo’s down looking to end the inning. Backto back backwards Ks for Michael Lorenzan in a one two three bottom of the second. No runs, no hits, no errors, nobody left for the Rays. We’re off to the third in Tampa. Royals two raise nothing. Here’s Michael Massie, left-hand batter and second baseman. Man of third, two out. Rays are down two nothing in the third. Royals have scored in the first two frames. The pitch swinging a popup into center field. Chandler Simpson breaks back now in. He’s under it and puts it away, reaching overhead. And Bradley indeed works around the leadoff walk for his first goose egg here in the third. All right, let’s see if the Rays can find a way against Michael Lorenzan here in the fourth. Junior Cominro steps in. Ball back into center field. Gives Bell on the move. On the move and that baby is gone. Home run and a 3-1 pitch. Junior Camado belts his sixth home run of the year and the Rays are on the board. Fourth home run given up by Lorenzan. Two to one ball game. Each team with four hits. Rays got their run on Junior Camro’s home run in the fourth. Now a two out threat in the fifth. The one-two swung out and miss strike three. Beautiful change up for Michael Lorenzan. And that ends the fifth inning. Five innings of one-run ball for Lorenzan. He strands Diaz at second. No runs to hit. No errors, one left for the Rays. Salvador Perez will lead off the sixth inning. And boy, this is quite a resume, MVP of the 15 World Series, nine all-star games down to third. Kimro takes care of that. And all of the accolades that we talked about there, you can’t overlook what he’s done behind the plate and with the pitching staff. You know, 17 coming into play tonight. 17 of his 28 games he has caught. Yeah, there’s a swing and a miss. He struck him out and Taj Bradley finally records his first strike out of the game. Two men retired. Hard to believe, but that credit to Kansas City and their ability to put the ball in play. Now the pitch is a high drive deep in the air to left. Freddy Fine, the catcher, and you can see he is in some significant discomfort right there. A double catastrophe there. Right there. It’s the fast ball and he’s trying to bunt and that ball is running up and in. Mhm. And caught that hand on the barrel of that bat more near the label. Yeah, you could see check over that right hand. It would appear at this point they’re concerned enough to maybe get him out of the game. Although he’s trying to grip that bat. He’s a catcher. Yeah, that’s right. A catcher. That’s exactly right. So he’s back in there in the seventh. Fly ball again up that right side. That’s going to be back into the stands and a souvenir. But that young man right there that makes your night. That’s There have been a number of happy kids in the stands tonight. Yep. Speechless but happy. And a chop to short. Cabierro to allow Juan. First they get the double play. Well, Brandon Loud does such a terrific job standing in on the double play. He had Waters barreling in and he made a perfect throw to first to complete the Twin Killing. Second double play turn by the Rays tonight. Check swing and a ball in the dirt. He went says the third base umpire Vic Kapaza. Word fit throws to first to complete the strikeout and Taj Bradley with seven solid innings for the Rays. New pitcher is Manny Rodriguez. As we go to the eighth, still two to one Royals. Brings up Bobby W Jr. He’s 0 for two with a walk tonight. 19game hitting streak likely on the line here and now. Smacked back up the middle. A base hit into center field. It’s a 20game hitting streak for Bobby Wit Jr. Clean right up the middle. Oh, look at the pat bat pathing. Look at that head position. So nice. Let’s see if he can swipe second base. Bobby is running. Vinnie takes a strike. The throw is in on a bounce. The tag was applied, but the ball popped out of Caviierro’s glove. He’s got a steel, his ninth of the season. And now he’s in scoring position. Game one of three this week in Tampa. Foul tipped into Jansen’s mid. That’s strike three. Second out of the inning. And a big one for Manuel Rodriguez. And a line drive and a grab right there by Brandon Laauo. timing the leap perfectly and getting up there to make the catch. Outstanding play. Brandon Laauo climbing the ladder and allowing Manny Rodriguez to work a scoreless eight. It’s still Royals two Rays one after seven and a half. Taylor Walls has come into the game to run for Camro at first. He carries the potential go-ahead run. Royals are clinging to a two to one lead in the bottom of the eighth and Ersk now has to face Jonathan Aronda. a dangerous left-handed hitter and Aronda swings and misses. Two down. Yeah, that Slider it’s a a late breaker and now a hitter with big power and big swing and miss. Christopher Morell Slider chopped towards shortstop backhands plants shuffles throws to first in time for the out inning over Lucas Ersginges the spark and the Rays tried to light. He strands a pair and preserves a one-run lead. Garcia makes it to third on the ground to the right side. And now Freddy Fine steps to the plate. Two for three with a couple of singles. He’s also grounded into a double play. And getting Garcia in would be huge to give the Royals some breathing room. Hit on the ground through the vacated right side. A base hit into right field. Garcia’s in to score from third. Freddy Fine has his third hit of the game. And this one drives in a crucial insurance run. The Royals are up three to one in the top of the ninth inning. Bottom of the ninth inning and George M. Steinbrer Field and the Royals lead the Rays 3 to one. Carlos Estz is on the mound for the bottom of the ninth and now ground ball deep short. Bobby gets a glove on it. Cabierro can really run and it’s not close. So with one out, Cabierro has himself a base hit and the Rays now will get the potential tying run to the plate. Jansen hits it high in the air deep to left field. India shuffles back on the track, makes the catch and Jansen’s out. Two gone. A long fly out. So, two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Royals up three to one. Chandler Simpson comes to the plate. Hit on the ground to the right side. Massie gets it on four bounces. Throws to first in time. Ball game. The Royals beat the Rays three to one and take the series opener at George M. Steinbrer Field. Carlos Estes earns his eighth save of the
