Mike Puma to talk Mets day 10 spring training we’re cruising right along here baby Port St Lucy Florida Jose Ser is the new outfielder on the team arrived from Tampa Bay as part of a trade in the off seon figures to fill the center field role that Harrison Bader had with the team last season uh splitting time out there with Tyrone Taylor one thing sir talked about upon arrival to manager Carlos Mendoza wants to cut down on his strikeouts he struck out a lot last season 170 times and uh had a batting average under 200 but he’s also got some power so when he runs into it he can hit it 18 homers but uh he was almost a homer strikeout guy and that was about it last year so offensively that’s going to be an emphasis with Siri defensively he’s Elite one of the best in the game at fielding his position that’s what the Mets like about him and in a lineup That features guys like Juan sto and Francisco Lindor and pet Alonzo if you could get Seri just up over the uh it’s not the Carlos Mendoza Line over the Mendoza Line you know get him into the low 200s get that Ops up a little bit uh as long as he’s not an automatic out in this lineup he should be an asset on the field Edwin Diaz pitched an inning alive batting practice today most of the Mets regulars were many of the I should say many of the Mets regulars were involved Juan stto was out there Francisco Lindor Brandon nmo Starling Marte took some at bats Francisco alareas so uh they’re they’re getting close now to Saturday the grapefruit League opener against the Astros and uh we’ll segue into that uh mza announced uh just a little while ago that clay Holmes is going to get that initial start in the grapefruit League that’s Saturday right here in Port St Lucy homes will throw three Innings so he’s he’s already on a good Pace as he uh lengthens out to be a starter this season I’m told uh the game is uh the seats are sold out there some standing room only so uh a lot of fans looking forward to seeing Juan sto uh playing an exhibition game for the first time with the Mets that’s it from Port St Lucy for more log on to NY post.com I’m Mike Puma
