2023年の今シーズン、アメリカンリーグで打率3割を超えたバッターは大谷翔平を含めた4人だけだった。
そしてその中でもリーグ最高の打率をマークし首位打者のタイトルを獲得したのはタンパベイ・レイズに所属するヤンディ・ディアスという選手。
ディアスのバッティグスタイルは安打製造機らしく引っ張るだけではなく、逆方向も意識しフィールド全体に満遍なく強い打球を弾き返すスタイル。
昨年の2022年や今季の2023年も強い打球を広い範囲に打っておりシングルヒットに関して言えば逆方向への打球の方が多い。
ヒットを量産するバッターのイメージといえば勝手に俊敏性が高く足の速い選手をイメージしてしまうがディアスの場合、足は決して速い選手ではなく、これだけのヒットを量産しながらもスリーベースヒットは昨年も今年も1本もない。
もっといえば当然のように盗塁は今シーズン1個も決めていない。
ただ今シーズンのディアスは昨年と比べホームランの数は倍以上に膨れ上がっていた。
2022年に放ったホームランはわずか9本だけだったが
今シーズンは22本のホームランをスタンドに叩き込んでいる。
